This BBB is horrendous. It sounds dramatic, but I am truly flabbergasted at how horrible they are. I've dealt with BBB's pretty much all over the country and actually found 99% of them very helpful in resolving consumer complaints, so this is not my first BBB rodeo, but I truly cannot say one redeeming word about them. Ok, quick recap: Filed a complaint against a local business (a BBB-certified, dues-paying member). It went through the usual volley of consumer complaint, unacceptable company response, my follow-up response, the business follow up response (Oh, btw...BBB members take an oath [yeah, old fashioned and also apparently meaningless word] that they will resolve to settle customer complaints. This business first got all huffy and defensive, when I followed up on my second submission, they changed to 'oh gee whiz, let's put this behind us'..without addressing any of our concerns). I replied (my third submission, all very well researched AND documented) and BBB---dropped the complaint. Closed it. Slammed the door shut. Didn't even contact the business, apparently. I emailed the Phoenix BBB at info@arizonabbb.org and asked for an explanation. They didn't respond. Didn't even open my email (I have tracking software) The coup de grace? The business still has an A+ rating and my complaint--which was supposed to be public--is nowhere to be found. Nothing, zero, zip. I'm done with all BBB's now. This place is a scam and the fact that they are just able to roll along with this completely crappy practice of shutting down documented consumer complaints against a BBB member/company with no effort whatsoever on their part tells me that BBB is a concept that has had its day and is completely useless. read more

Be careful of Progressive Insurance. I filed a claim for repairs on my 2013 Chrysler Town & Country On June 8, 2026. The parking lot damage was done in a parking lot some time in December 2015. I had forgotten the date, so I put the date of the damage on June 7, 2026. Because I mistakenly had the wrong date, Progressive has pt my claim "under review". It has been under review for over a month now. The claims adjuster has not called me back, & is ignoring my calls. Still no resolution on my repair. They are totally ignoring me. read more

After submitting a detailed, well-documented complaint about Amazon's widespread practice of indefinitely withholding seller funds (affecting thousands of small businesses), I was deeply disappointed by BBB's handling of the matter. For those unfamiliar, BBB is basically Yelp for people who still have AOL email addresses - except when you leave a negative review, they actually remove it instead of just hiding it behind seventeen popups asking you to download their app. My complaint addressed a systemic business practice - not an individual account dispute. I provided comprehensive information about how Amazon's policies harm small businesses across the country through their fund withholding practices. When Amazon responded by demanding my specific seller account email (clearly attempting to narrow this to an individual case), I wrote a detailed explanation to BBB about why this wasn't appropriate. I offered alternative verification including documentation of the widespread nature of the issue and redacted examples. BBB's response? They simply closed my complaint, claiming I "failed to provide necessary clarification" - despite my thorough explanation. This experience reveals that BBB appears more interested in maintaining relationships with large corporations than advocating for small businesses. They operate like a protection racket with accreditation fees instead of actually holding businesses accountable. If you're considering using BBB for a complaint against a large corporation, save yourself the time and just post on social media instead. At least there, your complaint won't disappear faster than the "A+" ratings of companies that pay their annual BBB membership fees. read more

After 18 days of waiting, they helped locate my complaint and get me a complaint number. Really appreciate the help.

Filed a complaint against business and rejected the offer from business on two occasions. The BBB did not publicly display complaint and gave the company an "A" rating after this first complaint. Prior to this the business was not on their records. This policy does not allow the public to make an informed decision on their own. An "A" rating could potentially infer a positive outcome for the person making the complaint. Update: Several hours after contacting them; my complaint is now on display. read more

It repaired the transmission in my vehicle. It has/had a $100 off coupon which I tendered. The invoice doesn't reflect that coupon anywhere. Also, it allegedly adds 3% to any bill that is paid by credit/debit card. However, it added 3.99% to my bill. At the owner's (Dave) request, I have sent copies of the paperwork to his cell phone. He has not returned my calls nor addressed these issues since 8/15/25. read more

I have sent over 5 emails about the problem since 7/26/2025, but they won't respond to my problem. This isn't the first time that I have had a problem with the bike, but it's the first time that they won't respond with a solution. Other than email, there isn't a way to reach them since they won't answer their customer support phone. read more

i thought the Better Business Bureau was supposed to help consumers against Companies that rip you off. Shasta pool co. redid my pool and it turned out looking like garbage, they would not redo it or refund our 11K. after many emails complaining to the BBB about this and not even coming to look at my pool, they dropped my complaint and believed what shasta told them over what i told the BBB. they took shastas word over mine with no proof from shasta. the BBB is a complete scam. They will close all complaints in lightening speed and never come to any conclusion. The businesses are allowed to blatantly lie in their responses. The BBB really should be shut down. I have used hem with a few issues over the last 20 years and get the same response: nothing, no effort and a computer system that will not allow yo to upload documents even when they are well within the limits. A completely useless service for consumers and it looks like companies agree as many businesses are not rated. read more

I don't have yelp but I'm posting this on a relatives account to inform customers. Search on YouTube the ABC investigation into the BBB and that summarizes what they are about. This organization receives money from the same company customers file complaints against. If you really want to know the trustworthiness of a company then read the customers reviews and complaints on the same companies the BBB has listed with A rating. Things have gotten worse since the investigation from ABC a decade ago. Now, the BBB doesn't even bother to get a response from companies or even respond to customers contacts. In short, the BBB doesn't even have an interest in keeping appearances which is what they literally get paid to do by all of these companies. Raul Mendez read more

In my opinion as a consumer advocate the Better Business Bureau and I use their name loosely is the biggest contradiction of a so called complaint bureau maybe in history. First, how can a so called "impartial agency" as they say charge businesses a fee to post their logo and claim they are impartial and give a fair shake to consumers who have complaints against their paying customers? Who butters their bread? Total hypocrisy. Second, in a recent complaint I had with a BBB paying merchant the BBB said they only allow customers to respond twice and then they close the complaint. Seriously? You get to respond twice and then no matter what they close it? Who do you think that favors the paying business or the consumer? Third, the BBB offers what they call arbitration for some cases which they have a panel of so called impartial people deciding whether or not your complaint has merit. Well, in my recent case with an auto repair shop who trashed my vehicle and left out to dry the BBB was going to have a panel of auto repair shop owners review my case against the paying BBB business owner and decide what the outcome should be. Talk about a blatant conflict of interest. Imagine have a jury of auto repair shop owners which so happens to be the most crooked consumer areas known deciding if you got a fair shake. Total scam in my opinion. How about having everyday consumers on your panel who are non business owners let them decide what is fair. Bottom line if you think if you are going to get fair treatment from the BBB as a consumer who has a complaint against a BBB paying merchant your chances are slim. Don't waste your time. read more

I had a conflict with Brewer's Air Conditioning and tried to resolve personally. When they ignored my issue, I turned to the BBB for help. I worked with Robert Moreno and checked in about every 10 days with very little feedback. After 30 days I escalated my issue to the director of conciliation Michelle Marin and got the following reponse: Hi Larry, Thank you for reaching out to BBB. I apologize that your complaint is taking longer than expected. The business has communicated that there may be further delays due to matters outside of their control. If you wish to pursue your complaint with other avenues, you're more than welcome to do so. Please know that as soon as we receive another update from the business, you will be notified. Again, I apologize for the frustration behind the delay. Matters outside their control? After 30 days of putting this off they can simply state that and get off the hook? I looked at Brewer's AC facebook page and saw that just 6 days ago they posted a picture for International Beer Day, but during that time didn't have time to respond to a legitimate customer complaint. I agree with most reviewers that the BBB has lost their values when it comes to maintaining a "community of trustworthy businesses". It's starting to get a few people rattled: https://www.courthousenews.com/bbb-is-a-racket-socal-law-firmsays-in-200-million-demand/#:~:text=LOS%20ANGELES%20(CN)%20%E2%80%93%20The,in%20a%20%24200%20million%20complaint. read more

I have now had two experiences with the BBB. Both tell me 1) Business pay to play (to get good ratings, which improve to 5/5 when a bad business becomes a member), and 2) They want to give the business every opportunity to explain away their perfidy, while not quite being able to understand a clearly explained customer complaint, let alone do anything about it. Many people have made the same allegations, almost every review is like this one. The BBB has never challenged anyone in court about them to the best of my knowledge. If it weren't for the media publicizing them as consumer advocates, and taking advantage of free labor by BBB volunteers assisting them to find marketable stories, I don't think anyone would trust them. read more

I am not surprised at the low rating of our local BBB, it deserves zero stars. Their service is appaling, but I assume that it comes down from the top, if the manager does not care about customer service, then the staff below her will not either. I am a small business owner and unfortunately we missed an email from a customer who bought one of my company's products on a subsidiary company's eBay store (not directly thru my company, Body Aware Inc). He simply wanted to exchange an item. As we missed the email, he wrote an off the cuff 1 star review on BBB which they published. He subsequently contacted us again and we were able to make him a happy customer with our usual good service, apologizing for missing his original email, and refunded him in full, letting him keep the original product. He wrote us an email on eBay so I sent a screen shot of the full eBay page to BBB in which he said: "I have retracted my negative statement on eBay, I have sent an email to the BBB asking for my review to be removed. Nothing happened, I got no response." This is typical of what I have found, this has been ongoing since January, and 4 months later, after multiple requests and the evidence that the customer wants the review removed, the AZ BBB will not remove it and seem to have made negligible or no effort to resolve this case. I have asked for my membership to be cancelled several times and the $500 + fee to be "accredited", refunded, but again no action on their part. In my view the BBB is an anachronism and I really don't know why it still exists, I certainly never use it any more, there are much better social media ways to find out about companies. read more

this organization is worthless. Filed a complaint related to some incorrect and inappropriate billing from a business in Tempe. I got an auto generated email saying that they received my complaint at the BBB. But never got anything after that. There was absolutely no communication and no resolution and no help. If I did not have this happen to me I would not believe it. I had been a customer of Century link for 7 years. TO SAY THIS HAS BEEN THE WORSE EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE OF DOING BUSINESS WITH ANY COMPANY is putting it mildly. I did everything right when I decided to leave CL and go to COX as CL was going to raise my monthly bill from $89 to $129. On Nov 29th I encountered a rude CS REPS but aside from that I honored my commitment for the time duration of one year and told CL I was not going to continue with them and to shut down all my services as of DEC 7 2017. I also called Cox Nov 29th and told them to start my service. On Dec 7 I considered my bill with CL DONE. I got a final bill and paid it in full. Cox started my service both phone and net connection on Dec 8. A few day later I received a bill from CL for $115 which I flatly refused to pay. I contacted BBB in Phoenix told them about the bill and was under the impression that they were going to look into the dispute. After at least a dozen letters to CL disputing the bill and telling them that I have contacted BBB in Phoenix, CL would not close out my account with a zero balance. I contacted BBB in Phoenix and was told that PX BBB sent the problem to Denver BBB and they would look into it. I asked why would you do that. I was given this bogus story about CL headquarters being in Denver and thus the BBB there was to handle the complaint. I waited and after communication with BBB in DENVER I was brushed off. I was then told (this has to take the cake of all BS stories I have ever heard), "WE HAVE TWO WOMAN OUT ON MATERNITY LEAVE AND THUS HAD TO TRANSFER YOU COMPLAINT (Denver) TO CHICAGO. I was then notified that the Chicago office looked into the problem and did not have the authority to make CL do anything and that they were closing the case. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO Better Business Bureau AGENCIES? IS ANYONE WORKING OR ARE THEY JUST GETTING PAID A SALARY AND BLOWING OFF COMPLAINTS? SO basically if CL decides to screw you out of $$$$ because you decide to switch to a better less expensive provider, they have no worries as the incompetence in BBB office is not out to rectify complaints and give satisfaction to customers. Would gladly give negative stars! The BBB after months has finally responded and have closed the complaint and sided with the business. Thankfully the ROC was the most help and made sure the contractor repaired the damages to our home. Guess the BBB is not for the consumer, but rather the business that is willing to pay for a high rating. read more

This outfit is a joke. Google some of the reviews about how BBB rates companies differently based on whether or not they are dues paying members. I contacted Phoenix BBB in early December 2018 about an air conditioning contractor that defrauded me on a service call. I input the review on the BBB website and never heard anything from the dishonest contractor or the BBB...no letters, no phone calls, no texts, no emails...nothing. On Jan 20, 2019 I looked at the BBB website to see how BBB had handled my complaint against the contractor only to see they have an A+ rating with BBB and are also a member of BBB. My complaint/review of the contractor only showed the date of the complaint, that the complaint involved "service" and that it was "resolved". No other information was shown. As of today, Feb 1, 2019 even that lame listing was removed from their web site. "Resolved" apparently means to the BBB...don't bother us with your consumer problems, we're too busy protecting our paying members. Thanks for nothing. read more
