The office is centrally located on 7th Ave and has convenient parking . I would visit this location if needed. However, since the pandemic much has changed and this 2025 a lot more has changed. I was very disappointed with my last visit 2weeks ago. They have a sign posted (registered appointment line up here (left side) and non registered appointments line up here (right side). I drove a senior to the office and there were no lines, she only needed an award form. The representative on the phone said go in and explain what you need. To our surprise and dismay both security officers turned us away and said go online and make an appointment. One of the main issues is many seniors are not technology savvy and need a human being to assist them. Immediately I had to call SSA, wait 15 minutes (thank goodness), to ask the representative to mail her the form needed. I will say it has enough security features / barriers inside that you can't just walk in. The Front office security definitely needs to show a little more respect and kindness and towards people in general entering the office. Yes, I know they run into people who are aggressive, upset and have bad behavior but they should not taken that attitude towards everyone else who arrives for assistance. As of January 2025 you have to have an appointment. They will turn you away if you do not. Pro Tip: Visit www.ssa.gov FIRST to see if you need to go in. DON'T FORGET to write down your application number if you have to call in to make an appointment. Call the LOCAL office instead of the main SS number. I was on hold with the main number for almost 4 hours to schedule my appointment. The SS worker that helped me said calling the local office is quicker. Once you get your appointment, on the day of you will get an email to check in. It's super easy they will help you get your ticket once you get inside. My appointment was at 9AM today. I came in to submit my documents for my SS application. The service was great. After you stop at a security desk (where they check your bags), they direct you to a kiosk to check in (using your SS number). The kiosk prints out a slip with a number on it (e.g. K535), then you sit and watch the monitor for your number to come up. I had arranged an appointment, but there was also a line of people standing and waiting to be helped. That may have been the non-appointment line, not sure. My number appeared within 10 minutes of my appointment time, and I went to the window and spoke to a representative and submitted my documents. That part only took about 5-10 minutes. I was happy with the service level here, especially when it seems people mostly like to complain about it. I had occasion to use the gender-neutral restroom (40 minute drive home), and it was very clean and handicap accessible. The parking lot and parking structure are located west of the office building, so we easily found a spot. (No charge for parking) All in all, a pretty painless visit, and hopefully my application will move along in the system. read more

Super unhelpful for anyone trying to do something day of as appointments can be two weeks away. I was AVOIDING the website for a reason, I wanted to speak with a real person about next steps. I went to this office this morning to sort out some Medicare issues. Getting my appointment was a challenge - I called every 5 minutes for 45 minutes before I got through. My appointment today was a totally different story. Fast, friendly and efficient service. I got done everything I needed to in about 20 minutes. The staff was great! I live in Canada and I noticed one thing at this office. 3 different security guards asked me if I had any weapons. Never a question you would get in Canada. Confession time! We got married in February 2017 and I JUST NOW started the process of changing my name. My poor husband just asked that I do it by our first anniversary as his present. haha! I popped in around 2:30 PM on a Tuesday and honestly had a great experience! I was in and out in literally 15 minutes. I just recommend having your photo ID, original marriage license, and name change application filled out before you go and they'll let you swing right into the fast lane! I also had my original birth certificate just in case they needed it but the lady didn't check mine! You don't pay a dime while you're there, they just gave me a form with the name change in process and I should receive my new card within a week in the mail. Once that comes, i'll be headed to the DMV to start that process! :) I have to admit, everyone makes changing your name out to be a HUGE ordeal but so far, it has been pretty easy peasy. The officer at the front was super friendly and informative! If you're like me and procrastinating because of the amount of work that you think it will be, just do it, it isn't bad! PRO TIP: DO NOT GO TO THE MESA OFFICE FOR A NAME CHANGE. We did this thinking it would be easier than going Downtown but they don't do name changes at the Mesa location! I should have looked at Yelp first! ;) But the parking at the Phoenix location was not bad, there was a ton of it, and everything was smooth! read more

We were there on a Friday and it was quite busy but we were in and out in under an hour, which is a long time, but nothing compared to what it could have been. I applied 3 different times for my social security card. With covid there is limitations of going into office. Two out of the three times I called they said they would issue me social security card took me almost 3 months to obtain one. Not only that but they lost my original documents they had me send in to change my last name. They have no clue where those docs went or are. I had to pay money just to obtain a copy of the documents they lost. Not only that but they told me to wait yet another month to see if those documents get returned back. I got there a little before 1030 am on a Tuesday and it was super busy! Bring a book or even some pop corn if they allowed food. Our documents are returned and without an explanation why they won't process it. EVERY-TIME you call you get a different answers or things to do. Awful experience. We got there at 10am on a Monday, left at 1pm. I give them one star because the gentleman who helped us was extremely professional and polite. The rest of the experience was terrible. Their system stinks. You take a number when you go in OR you can stand in the "express line" OR you can do both - but not if you're getting a replacement Social Security Card. If you're doing that you have to just sit and wait for your number to be called. They have 18 windows, 9 were open. I would say of the 9 open windows, 8 were taking people from the "express line." One was taking people with numbers, which explains why it took me 3 hours to get out. The ladies walking around asking people what they are there for are 100% useless. When asked how their system works, on lady told us not to worry we only had ten numbers to go. My son and I both left with a headache. If at all possible take care of your business via mail. This was quite painless. I read the yelp reviews before going in for helpful tips. I went in to change my name after getting married. I got to the social security parking lot at 8:30 am and there was plenty of free parking. I walked to the card services line which is on the backside of the building - there are two lines so go to the correct one the first time. The line was already about 30-45 people deep. They opened the doors promptly at 9:00am and let small groups in at a time. You all go up an elevator to the second floor and then exit to your left. After letting a security officer inspect your bag, the line leads you to a computer to input why you are there and your social security number. I waited less than 10 minutes until called to a window where it took 7 minutes for the lady to complete my name change. I call that a success. Tips: 1. Get there early to wait in line as the process is so fast after that. 2. Have your actual marriage license (the top part you signed), driver's license, and birth certificate. 3. The guard here was respectable as expected and for it being the busiest office in all of Phoenix, it was surprisingly a quick in and out. About 45 minutes. I got there around 10am. When you think about having to go to the Social Security office, you think that you're going to be there all day for hours. At least that's what I thought when I was coming here to change my name. I was there about 30 minutes before it opened and that was a really long line and I was worried that it was going to take forever to get it done. Once they opened the process was done within 20 minutes. It was super easy to change my name. I would suggest filling out your application before Going in, you can find it online and print it out. Also make sure that you go online to see exactly what document you're going to need before going there because you want to prevent having to go back home to pick up the documents he forgot. read more

Well found it easily, came at 8:30am a small Line out front and they let you in little at a time to go upstairs on the elevator, everyone was helpful and straight forward , i was literally in and sat down for a few minutes and sent to a open window. I have read reviews stating that you'd better Be ready to wait two hours, have all your information handy, and be over prepared with all your paperwork. I arrived checked in and within five minutes I was called. That's absolutely amazing for government office! I spoke with the lady at the window and apparently due to a large amount of Fraud, certain official documents aren't accepted anymore. The information online did not reveal this fact to me so I am appreciative that this lady took the time to tell me. So I will have to return after doing some more legwork on my end. What gets me is its in the open so everyone can hear you. The young man I spoke to was arrogant , young and stupid. He kept giving me information that was incorrect, so when I told him if he could get a supervisor , he told me we do not have them in this office.
