I cannot imagine a worse experience. Avoid this location at all costs. I had an appointment for a simple marriage name change for which I FILLED OUT ALL THE INFORMATION ONLINE, yet was told the appointment wouldn't help. After waiting an hour in the general queue, the staff was extremely rude, passive aggressive, and entirely unhelpful. read more

The office is centrally located on 7th Ave and has convenient parking . I would visit this location if needed. However, since the pandemic much has changed and this 2025 a lot more has changed. I was very disappointed with my last visit 2weeks ago. They have a sign posted (registered appointment line up here (left side) and non registered appointments line up here (right side). I drove a senior to the office and there were no lines, she only needed an award form. The representative on the phone said go in and explain what you need. To our surprise and dismay both security officers turned us away and said go online and make an appointment. One of the main issues is many seniors are not technology savvy and need a human being to assist them. Immediately I had to call SSA, wait 15 minutes (thank goodness), to ask the representative to mail her the form needed. I will say it has enough security features / barriers inside that you can't just walk in. The Front office security definitely needs to show a little more respect and kindness and towards people in general entering the office. Yes, I know they run into people who are aggressive, upset and have bad behavior but they should not taken that attitude towards everyone else who arrives for assistance. Sadly the government is starting to make all federal agencies worse. Jesus help us read more

From the moment I booked an appointment I was excited for the experience. Mission, new SSN after adoption. Checked in electronically (YAAY)! The security guards were very kind (WOOHOO)! Received my ticket via text (SCORE)! My number was called exactly at my appointment time (YIPEE). The agent was kind and efficient...and I was outta there in 20 minutes. I could die and go to heaven now! Now this was a true customer service experience!!! Way to go AZ Social Security Administration read more

As of January 2025 you have to have an appointment. They will turn you away if you do not. Pro Tip: Visit www.ssa.gov FIRST to see if you need to go in. DON'T FORGET to write down your application number if you have to call in to make an appointment. Call the LOCAL office instead of the main SS number. I was on hold with the main number for almost 4 hours to schedule my appointment. The SS worker that helped me said calling the local office is quicker. Once you get your appointment, on the day of you will get an email to check in. It's super easy they will help you get your ticket once you get inside. My appointment was at 9AM today. I was back in my vehicle by 9:15. read more

Social Security - Do NOT call the main number. Call the LOCAL office to schedule your appointment. - Public Services & Government Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

The only good thing about this place is the security guard in the front, ily bro Trying to make an appointment is an absolute nightmare between the robot who just repeats " you might not need to make an appointment" and even when the thing you need can't be done online, she doesn't care and just keeps repeating it, and the attitude you get from the workers when you can finally get a hold of them. Better to call your local office and even then the wait time and annoying lobby music will drive u crazy read more

I came in to submit my documents for my SS application. The service was great. After you stop at a security desk (where they check your bags), they direct you to a kiosk to check in (using your SS number). The kiosk prints out a slip with a number on it (e.g. K535), then you sit and watch the monitor for your number to come up. I had arranged an appointment, but there was also a line of people standing and waiting to be helped. That may have been the non-appointment line, not sure. My number appeared within 10 minutes of my appointment time, and I went to the window and spoke to a representative and submitted my documents. That part only took about 5-10 minutes. I was happy with the service level here, especially when it seems people mostly like to complain about it. I had occasion to use the gender-neutral restroom (40 minute drive home), and it was very clean and handicap accessible. The parking lot and parking structure are located west of the office building, so we easily found a spot. (No charge for parking) All in all, a pretty painless visit, and hopefully my application will move along in the system. read more

This office is incompetent. They lost my husbands paperwork despite receiving mine in the SAME EXACT envelope! How's that even possible??? Just said Sorry, do it again as if there were no deadlines. Then despite being told it's not about her personally but whomever opens the mail and scans documents is completely incompetent and it needs to be reported to higher management, she hung up on me. read more

They apparently are only allowing online appointments. When you walk up for help they just direct you to your phone. Super unhelpful for anyone trying to do something day of as appointments can be two weeks away. I was AVOIDING the website for a reason, I wanted to speak with a real person about next steps. You will be on hold for hours on the phone and potentially not even speak to someone in your state. Super unhelpful for anyone read more

This is so ridiculous waiting on the phone almost 4 hours to have someone answer. You Guys Are The Worst !!!

I went to this office this morning to sort out some Medicare issues. Getting my appointment was a challenge - I called every 5 minutes for 45 minutes before I got through. My appointment today was a totally different story. Fast, friendly and efficient service. I got done everything I needed to in about 20 minutes. The staff was great! I live in Canada and I noticed one thing at this office. 3 different security guards asked me if I had any weapons. Never a question you would get in Canada. One of the reasons I appreciate living north of the US border. read more

I scheduled an appointment online on 5/8 & never got an email or text confirmation. When I called the SSA, they said they had no record of my appointment although I had a screenshot of my appt info. Waited 1.5 hours to change my name to my new married name. Friendly associates for all the crazy they have to put up with

Horrible, absolutely horrible. 2 hour lines in 100 degree weather. On line system broken, phone agents hang up on customers waiting hours to get help from them. I think this must be THE worst run governmental agency in the country, and in history. The damn thing should be SHUT DOWN. read more

I called this trash ass place last week and asked them what I needed to bring to get a copy of my Daughter's social security card. After going and waiting 3 hours they informed everyone that you cannot use a Birth certificate as a proof of Identity. But they will take medical records though. Thats the most backwards shit I've ever heard in my life. And the customer service sucks ass. Yall need to do better. read more

Confession time! We got married in February 2017 and I JUST NOW started the process of changing my name. My poor husband just asked that I do it by our first anniversary as his present. haha! I popped in around 2:30 PM on a Tuesday and honestly had a great experience! I was in and out in literally 15 minutes. I just recommend having your photo ID, original marriage license, and name change application filled out before you go and they'll let you swing right into the fast lane! I also had my original birth certificate just in case they needed it but the lady didn't check mine! You don't pay a dime while you're there, they just gave me a form with the name change in process and I should receive my new card within a week in the mail. Once that comes, i'll be headed to the DMV to start that process! :) I have to admit, everyone makes changing your name out to be a HUGE ordeal but so far, it has been pretty easy peasy. The officer at the front was super friendly and informative! If you're like me and procrastinating because of the amount of work that you think it will be, just do it, it isn't bad! PRO TIP: DO NOT GO TO THE MESA OFFICE FOR A NAME CHANGE. We did this thinking it would be easier than going Downtown but they don't do name changes at the Mesa location! I should have looked at Yelp first! ;) But the parking at the Phoenix location was not bad, there was a ton of it, and everything was smooth! read more

What the living WORLD kind of management runs this place ... kindly FIRE THEM QUICKLY!... it's been 3 months and these people have had me sitting around waiting around with the excuse that my application is processing and will need to wait and that it will get to me after the idiots sent it to the wrong address and then had to wait for it to be resubmitted and now the idiots told me to wait again to now get a letter saying that the wrong documents were sent in and it's these incompetent workers that sent them in ... I'm beyond angry !!!!! This is for me to get approval to be a fostercare parent that I can't get approved for because the stupid state SSN office is incompetent.. how can we help the children when the ssn department can't help itself !!!!! I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of this office. We were there on a Friday and it was quite busy but we were in and out in under an hour, which is a long time, but nothing compared to what it could have been. I applied 3 different times for my social security card. With covid there is limitations of going into office. Two out of the three times I called they said they would issue me social security card took me almost 3 months to obtain one. Not only that but they lost my original documents they had me send in to change my last name. They have no clue where those docs went or are. I had to pay money just to obtain a copy of the documents they lost. Not only that but they told me to wait yet another month to see if those documents get returned back. I gave in and paid to obtain copies of the document they lost. It's impossible to get answers from them. read more

The people were quite friendly I'm Not sure why all the comments about them being rude. My only reason for 3 stars was the 3 hour wait. I got there a little before 1030 am on a Tuesday and it was super busy! Bring a book or even some pop corn if they allowed food. Some of the people were pretty funny throwing a tantrum when they got turned away. I will say bring everything you need don't act surprised when your waiting and get turned away for not having everything the website saids you need to bring! I got married a month ago and brought everything it asked and once I did get called I was done in like 5 minutes. read more

This whole system is screwed up. We've applied for our daughter social security card 3 different times by mailing in the application. Our documents are returned and without an explanation why they won't process it. EVERY-TIME you call you get a different answers or things to do. Awful experience. We got there at 10am on a Monday, left at 1pm. I give them one star because the gentleman who helped us was extremely professional and polite. The rest of the experience was terrible. Their system stinks. You take a number when you go in OR you can stand in the "express line" OR you can do both - but not if you're getting a replacement Social Security Card. If you're doing that you have to just sit and wait for your number to be called. They have 18 windows, 9 were open. I would say of the 9 open windows, 8 were taking people from the "express line." One was taking people with numbers, which explains why it took me 3 hours to get out. The ladies walking around asking people what they are there for are 100% useless. When asked how their system works, on lady told us not to worry we only had ten numbers to go. My son and I both left with a headache. If at all possible take care of your business via mail. Going in to this office will be a painful experience. read more

This was quite painless. I read the yelp reviews before going in for helpful tips. I went in to change my name after getting married. I got to the social security parking lot at 8:30 am and there was plenty of free parking. I walked to the card services line which is on the backside of the building - there are two lines so go to the correct one the first time. The line was already about 30-45 people deep. They opened the doors promptly at 9:00am and let small groups in at a time. You all go up an elevator to the second floor and then exit to your left. After letting a security officer inspect your bag, the line leads you to a computer to input why you are there and your social security number. I waited less than 10 minutes until called to a window where it took 7 minutes for the lady to complete my name change. I call that a success. Tips: 1. Get there early to wait in line as the process is so fast after that. 2. Have your actual marriage license (the top part you signed), driver's license, and birth certificate. 3. Be nice to the employees. read more

I came here after the unsatisfactory service received from the security guard at the Tatum office. The guard here was respectable as expected and for it being the busiest office in all of Phoenix, it was surprisingly a quick in and out. About 45 minutes. I got there around 10am. Of course I was just requesting a replacement card. The only downfall is there is not nearly enough parking for how busy this office is. So be prepared for that. read more

I love how this place had 5 windows out of 18 open when I arrived at 12:30 & now at 2 there are 8 open windows and I bet the closer to 5pm it gets the more windows will open. Such BS! They need more employees so it's not a 3hr wait to just get a SSC replaced!!!!! #NeverAgain read more

Well found it easily, came at 8:30am a small Line out front and they let you in little at a time to go upstairs on the elevator, everyone was helpful and straight forward , i was literally in and sat down for a few minutes and sent to a open window. Not for SSN service; a 1 star rating for the security guard at the 7th St building and his awful customer service. Nothing like being treated poorly and assisting people that were here long after my arrival. And yes, I had an appt, and arrived with time to spare. Entered late. read more

When you think about having to go to the Social Security office, you think that you're going to be there all day for hours. At least that's what I thought when I was coming here to change my name. I was there about 30 minutes before it opened and that was a really long line and I was worried that it was going to take forever to get it done. Once they opened the process was done within 20 minutes. It was super easy to change my name. I would suggest filling out your application before Going in, you can find it online and print it out. Also make sure that you go online to see exactly what document you're going to need before going there because you want to prevent having to go back home to pick up the documents he forgot. read more

I have read reviews stating that you'd better Be ready to wait two hours, have all your information handy, and be over prepared with all your paperwork. I arrived checked in and within five minutes I was called. That's absolutely amazing for government office! I spoke with the lady at the window and apparently due to a large amount of Fraud, certain official documents aren't accepted anymore. The information online did not reveal this fact to me so I am appreciative that this lady took the time to tell me. So I will have to return after doing some more legwork on my end. I do want to commend this worker for exhausting all avenues of and attempts to try and help me rectify my situation. Wish me luck when I return, hopefully it will be as quick as today's. read more

I had to go to the Social Security office that was the closes to my home and that was in Apache Junction. I had an appointment for 930 and at 10.00 I finally was called up to a window. What gets me is its in the open so everyone can hear you. The young man I spoke to was arrogant , young and stupid. He kept giving me information that was incorrect, so when I told him if he could get a supervisor , he told me we do not have them in this office. Really now , so what he was really telling me is that I am tired of speaking to and old Vietnam vet and to leave. Let me tell you everyone if you go into that office you are looking for trouble. Because everyone I spoke to should be working in the desert doing landscaping . That way the only ones they should be speaking to are the snakes and Coyotes read more
