I arrived at the Social Security office this morning before opening and waited in line, as several people had already lined up before the doors opened. This was not my first time applying for a Social Security card for a newborn, so I came fully prepared with all of the required documentation and understood the process. When the doors opened, an employee, Elisa Alcala, came outside to ask each person in line why they were there. From the moment she walked out, her attitude toward the public was hostile, impatient, and unnecessarily confrontational. The first couple in line explained why they were there, but before they could finish, Ms. Alcala interrupted them and told them they needed an appointment. When they attempted to ask follow-up questions, she talked over them and sarcastically asked if they were "listening today or going to ignore her." Instead of providing guidance, she belittled them until they left the office entirely. Unfortunately, this behavior continued with nearly every person she spoke to. Throughout the line, she repeatedly made comments such as, "Are you going to listen today?" and "You're not listening to me," speaking to people as though they were inconveniencing her rather than seeking assistance from a public agency. Her demeanor suggested she had no interest in helping anyone and simply wanted to turn people away. When she reached my family, she asked why we were there. I explained that I needed a replacement Social Security card as well as a Social Security card for my newborn. She immediately responded, with the same dismissive attitude, that I needed identification for the newborn. As I attempted to show her the birth certificate and other required documents and explain what I had, she literally put her hand up, started walking away, and said, "Not doing it," before I had even finished speaking. I continued trying to show her the documentation, and her response was, "I wouldn't consider that valid." Rather than reviewing the documents or explaining the requirements professionally, she dismissed me outright without making any genuine effort to help. At that point, I asked to borrow her pen so I could write down her name because I knew I would be filing a formal complaint. Instead of reflecting on her conduct, she rolled her eyes, continued making unnecessary remarks, and maintained the same rude, dismissive attitude. Once inside the office, I was assisted by a gentleman at the service window who was courteous, respectful, and professional. He reviewed my documents, confirmed that I had everything required, and processed my requests without any issue. When I explained how I had been treated by Ms. Alcala, his reaction gave me the impression that this was not the first complaint he had heard regarding her behavior. What concerns me most is how many people Ms. Alcala likely turned away incorrectly. If my documentation was sufficient despite her insistence that it was not, how many other individuals were denied service or left believing they lacked the required documents simply because she refused to listen? The office appeared relatively quiet after opening, and it was hard not to notice that many people had already been turned away before they ever had the opportunity to speak with someone willing to actually assist them. The purpose of having an employee greet the public should be to provide accurate information and direct people appropriately--not to intimidate, dismiss, or discourage them from seeking services they are legally entitled to receive. Ms. Alcala's conduct was unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable for someone serving the public. After reading numerous reviews describing the same issues--poor attitudes, lack of professionalism, and dismissive treatment--it is clear this is not an isolated incident. This appears to be a broader management problem. Leadership needs to take these complaints seriously, provide meaningful customer service training, and hold employees accountable for how they treat the public. Ms. Alcala's behavior reflects poorly on the entire office. If she is unwilling or unable to treat people with basic respect and professionalism, she should not be the first point of contact for members of the public. People visit the Social Security office because they need assistance--not to be spoken down to, interrupted, or treated with contempt. read more

I am very disappointed with the customer service provided by Mayra at Window #11. She was extremely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. We have come to this office three different times, and every single time we have had the same negative experience with her. No one should be treated with disrespect when they are simply trying to get help. Her attitude and the way she speaks to people are unacceptable for someone working in public service. I have had 4 scheduled appointments for a reconsideration hearing but never recieved one. This past monday was discusting. I went to drop off my appeal documents. Crazy I was disabled since 2016. Then shot in the head 2018. I only Stopped SSI in 2020 because of a small inheritance. When I returned to have the benifits reinstated they have forced me to go thru the entire process and just keep playing games. Yesterday they refused to provide me with proof of the documents I dropped off for a hearing. They refused to provide me with a recipt for recieving the request for a hearing! So I snapped a photo and the guy called security who was told by the giy on photo to take my.phone and delete my photo and go to my trash and delete the photo?? Can I just get proof u recieved my documents? Im Inisistant because I've been dealing with this Glendale az office for a year and I know they are lyers!!! No one likes going to a government office, but this trip to the SSA was relatively painless. Adequate parking behind the building, I was greeted by security who gave me my inspection and then politely directed me to the login kiosks. In a moment I had my ticket and was in the waiting room. There were appx 45 people waiting when I arrived and that didn't give me comfort, but within 30 minutes I was at Window 13 and Ms Scott took care of everything quickly, and professionally. The officer who checks your bags was not friendly. I called the day before and was told I could place my documents in a drop box so I didn't have to wait. When I got there my documents did not fit in the drop box' narrow slot so I had to check in and wait. There isn't a staff member in the lobby to answer basic questions such as "where can I leave my documents as they don't die in the drop box slot?" Once I was called back (about 30 minutes) the lady that helped me was great! She took care of my issue in about 5 minutes and I was out of there. Hello I have going thru the ringer will ssdi. I am a handicapped single mom that had no choice but to work. I have called numerous times to try to get help and understand working well collecting ssdi income. My ssdi income was not enough for me to work. I called 8-2-22, I called 6-14 2023, called again on 6-14 23 spoke with shirel. I called 6-27 after going to rude office on 6-26-23. I also called on 6-23-23, I called 7-3-23 when told by amy to call after the 1st if july not results. I called twice on 7-10 23 which Vince hung up on me. Simply asking for help due to letter emailed on 7-10-23. Vince rudely hung up on me. I had to stand in line as a black woman with a prosthetic leg saw another Caucasian man with same thing they ask him to sit down. Amy whom help on 6-26-23 took all documents forms and was not friendly at all. Amy told me to call when called on 6-27-23 I spoke to carol. Terrible service, nobody knows what they're doing and everybody has a different answer to the same question. They do not update their computer systems when somebody calls so that they can tell you that you didn't call so as to cover their mistakes. When you do call and finally get through to somebody, after sometimes an hour or more of waiting, when you ask, the person who answers a question, you can call back the same day, and whoever answers will give you a different answer to your question. And like I said, even if you have dates times, and who you spoke to and what question you asked, they will not find a record of you calling and then answering your question. It is definitely a good idea to write down every detail when you call them. Then I would suggest going to the actual Social Security office and talking to someone face-to-face with your question. It doesn't hurt to have that person sign, your notes that you were there and the question you asked along with the answer the person use request gives you. I had to go in several times to get my questions answered and it wasn't until I went all the way to the manager before I could finally get her the right answers, documentation in their computer system, and everything corrected on my disability and Medicare. After dealing with her so many different people at my Social Security office in every way possible, including, hand written letters, sent through the post office, online documents, sent through the Social Security Department, phone conversations, and in person conversations, I now understand why the Social Security administration is bankrupt And has been for years and why the federal government deficit and the Social Security budget is out of this world and costs I thousand times more than it would cost for your largest corporations to be able to handle what Social Security should be able to handle on their budget. Have all of your documents handy: DL OR STATE ID, death cert, tax documents, etc. Be organized and they will help you swiftly and professionally. This office is no worse then any other that I have been to in town. They are staffed according to what the federal government has allowed them to be staffed at and so don't have as many people as they need for the population that they serve. They have been polite to me, but I am polite to them. I also realize that as government employees they are not getting great wages. Certainly not enough to put up with rude people. The security guard is there because people started acting ugly a few years ago. Now everyone has to follow rules of behavior that make the system run in a civilized manner. Phones must be on quiet or off. No weapons in purses, pockets, or backpacks and guard must verify this. If you talk on the phone it must be outside the waiting area. If you leave the building then you must go through the security line again. Please have your paperwork with you to talk to the representative-it saves confusion for you and time for the rest of us. The reason I docked a star is the lack of parking. There are only four handicap spaces and not that many more spaces available for everyone else. Using the medical facility's parking and parking across the street are the only alternatives. read more

We got there at 8:30 or so on Tuesday, 45+ people in line ahead of us. At 9:00 the doors opened and All of us in line (maybe 50-60 by now) were seated inside after an initial Q & A with a SSA Rep at one of the 20 windows ( 15 open). Our name was called in 30 min or so. Just as dysfunctional as most SS offices. They make you feel like they are doing you a favor answering your questions, after you have waited for 3 hours in line. For some queries, they make you wait in line saying "someone is going to call your name" and then you are in waiting purgatory, without a number or visual display to show you where you are in line.
