I'm a first-time customer, and although I usually wait for a few visits to review an establishment so I can get a good overall feel, i was so impressed I thought I'd make an exception here.
Food trucks are still moderately new to Champaign-Urbana, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The truck looked clean, the menu board was clear and descriptive of the few items they offered-- chicken tacos, steak sandwich, falafil, along with sides like kale salad, homemade chips, and oddly enough, some sort of flavored bacon. Although I normally go for ethnic or spicy food, the steak sandwich jumped out at me.
The sandwich arrived in about five minutes-- pretty good for a thinly-staffed mobile kitchen, I thought. The sandwich itself was thinly-sliced, probably pan-fried strips of rib-eye dressed with some sort of mayo-based sauce, and featured sauteed poblano chiles. It all sat a little uncomfortably on toasted bread-- there was so much meat I ate some with a fork before daring to pick it up! The meat was as tender and beefy as I could hope for rib-eye, and the sauce and toppings added to the flavor rather than distracted. All in all I was very much impressed with the quantity and quality of the sandwich, and I will definitely be back to sample their other offerings.
If this truck is representative of the others that C-U has to offer I think I'll become a fan of the whole food truck movement. Fast street-side food that would give a sit-down restaurant a run for its money!
Note: This visit happened awhile ago, so current offerings may have changed, and sadly I have not yet made it back there since. I'm overdue for a return visit! read more
