We went there after the visit to the ruins because we wanted to avoid any touristy eatery. The restaurant is located in a sidestreet between the main piazza and the train station. We ordered a mixed salad and pasta with ragu as starters, then I ordered grilled steak (with grilled vegetables as side dish) while my girlfriend took the fish of the day (she was told that there were vegetables included).
The starters where quite good, though not exceptionell.
My steak was not very tasty: it was dripping with olive oil (they even put a bottle of olive oil on the table "in case you want more"), which in our both opinion tasted rancid. The fat had a disgusting taste, which gives a hint that the meat was not of very good quality. The grilled vegetables were also heavily on the oily side.
The fish came filleted, with olives, caperns and potatoes. It was probably the best dish of the evening.
When we ordered the check, it stated 70€. While my steak was 15€, the fish was over 30€ (in the menu, it says 4.50€/100 gr.). When we asked about that, we were told that the fish was 600 gr (it surely was not), plus they charged another 4.50€ for 100 gr. of vegetables. Though the manager/owner of the place was around all the time and he surely witnessed that we were not quite comfortable with the check, he didn't bother to come to our table to explain this, but sent a young waitress instead. When we asked to pay, it took him about 25 minutes to come with the credit card-reader although there weren't that many other customers. He didn't ask how the food was or maybe offered a espresso or something. It seemed as he was somehow angry with us for scrutinizing the check.
To be clear: it was our fault for not asking exactly how much fish would be served in the beginning. But in the end it seemed like a rip-off, especially the way they reacted.
We've eaten in many places all over Italy. We never paid so much for food that was not very good (in case of my steak, it was actually uneatable) and were never treated almost hostile for asking something about the bill.
We absolutely can NOT recommend to go to this place. read more
