They have an underwater rope course you can use to navigate from one side to the other. The waters color and clarity come from its origin. It was originally a Limestone Rock Quarry. Spring water has filled it up making this a good dive location. Another feature I found to be very cool for instructors is the large underwater decks. These are part of the course and make a great place to perform dive skills without disturbing the silt on the bottom. My dive site had an easy entry and exit. The depth ranges depending on the amount of rain throughout the year. This is a great place to teach new students, practice your skills, or train as a dive team. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Being this was my first time here they answered all of my questions.

Very well maintained, clean, well managed, they even pick trash up 3 times a day from your site! Sites are large, easy to back into. Park is patrolled overnight by the constables office. No drama, not noisy, just families having a relaxing time. Only downside was the fish weren't biting! We appreciated the fact that weekends are reserved for campers, which kept the traffic at the swimming area controlled (day passes can be obtained during the week for the general public) bathhouses and restroom are clean. Since it was a holiday, it was booked way in advance and I would highly recommend everyone to do that. It's a bit of a drive from Houston, but once inside, I felt it was worth it. I had no idea it was even out here. There are fees to enter as well as fees for areas you want to rent for yourself. Huntsville State Park is located in the Sam Houston National Forest and is filled with beautiful trees, hiking trails and lakes. On the lake, you can fish, canoe and even swim. There is a designated spot for swimming which we saw but did not partake in. There is no lifeguard, so swim at your own risk and beware of the alligators. There are plenty of trails that can keep you busy for days. If you're into camping, there have plenty of campsites, including some screened shelter. The screened shelter plot we rented was spacious and had amenities like picnic tables, grill, water hookup, amp hookup, and restrooms and shower facilities nearby. It was a great setup for our large group. We had plenty of space to play, set up some little pools for the kiddos and eat without anybody being right on top of us. After coming here, I realized I need to take advantage of all the state parks in our amazing state and escape the hustle and bustle of the city every once in awhile. I would visit this place again for sure.

They tried to get me but was unsuccessful. No call or nothing prior , that's what made it suspicious. They are money hungry in a very petty way . You would come in, pick your site, let the ranger station know and you were done. Now, since a couple months ago, they changed it to where "a computer" would pick your site for your, which would be good if all the sites were the same, but they definitely are not! Some sites are paved, some are rock, some long or short, some easy to get into, some not. They basically took your choice away! Before, if you got here and all the "good" sites were taken, that's the luck of the draw. Both times since they changed to this I've had to ask to change the site, first time, I couldn't get into the site if I wanted to. Second time they put us in a site we definitely did not want. Now, they put up a sign no drinks in the edge of the pool, no exceptions! A lot of people go to the pool, stand at the side, drink whatever it is, chill and have a good time. So now that choice has been taken away. I can understand glass containers, glass and pools don't mix, so punish those people! We have loved this place for years, but it's getting to where we don't like coming here anymore. Some of the employees are nice, some not so much. Some of the employees seem extremely lazy and are just here to talk and play. Mean while, the speed limit is 5 mph, I've seen people doing I think around 25 or 30. People have their kids and dogs walking around the park and I haven't seen much to stop that. But standing around the pool drinking whatever and having a good time, the managers said shut it down! I really don't know what's happening here. Just think hard before buying a membership. The memberships can cost thousands of dollars and they can make changes anytime, whether you like it or not, and you either have to deal with it or get rid of it. They don't care what you think! My issues this time were that the table at our site was very rusty and very lopsided. We had to keep several paper plates under it to keep drinks from toppling over. Also the first day we were there, I could not take my kids to the pool area and hot tub area because there were people in there with their dog running around and not on a leash. Even though it was small it came running up to the fence barking and growling at our dog as we walked by so there was no way I was taking my kids inside. Our fire pit was full of trash when we arrived and it had rained so my husband and son had to empty it out. There was also a lot of dog feces everywhere. It seems no one cleans up after their own pets. I took off one star for the issues because we normally don't have them so I'm hoping it was a one-off. We will definitely be back.

We had space 6, lake view, and it was beautiful. Unfortunately when my husband booked it, he didn't notice it was literally next to the highway. It was noisy,but that wasn't their fault. The fishing was great, I caught 5 catfish,my son caught one as well, my husband caught a nice bass and a big turtle. The only issue we had was on our last night, we fished all day and decided to relax and watch a movie before bed. The Internet was out, which happens, but when he called and told the lady the wifi wasn't working, her response was, "It's working up here". Petty, I know, but not a great response. She asked if we could just use our hotspot and what not. She did, however text us that she checked and there were outages in the area, then messaged us when it was up again, but we never could get it to work. Again, not a huge issue and we understand that it does happen. I work in the hotel industry and we get this too. All in all nice place for fishing with the family. We didn't try any other things they offer, restaurant, pool and playground, so I can't review them. Pets are allowed so that's a huge bonus. We would definitely stay again.
