The entrance road needs a little work but I don't know if that is owned by the park, but be ready for some hills and bumps. The marina had everything we had forgotten and the owners were helpful even suggesting the right fishing spots on the lake. To sum it up I will bring the wife and kids back, I wanted to make a dry run first to get the lay of the land and now that i checked it out I will be back in October when the weather cools off. If you want anything special bring it with you, as Brookshire Brothers is the only thing close which is a grocery store.. it is a little of a drive back (15 min) to the small town of Trinity and even longer (35 min) to Huntsville which is good for a getaway but bad if you forgot you medication or want a chain restaurant.. The owners truly care about the place and that is what really matters, as we were leaving the owner asked if their was anything that he could do to make our stay better and listened to what we suggested. On a last note they have two cabins right on the waters edge that is perfect for two families to visit together but have separate quarters. The cabins are close enough for the kids to play safely but far enough apart you don't hear the little things The couple next door had a dog that was a barker but once we shut the door you couldn't hear a thing. I think the owners will do noting but improve the place and I will definitely return as needed to get away from the city life.

The first night I noticed an earwig on the bed but no big deal. Second night came to the cabin and the ROACHES were on everything and even in the fridge!! Immediately messaged the owner and crickets. No response. Not even a sorry about that. Figured he's older maybe he's sleeping but no. Still no response on Sunday morning nor Monday morning. Hundreds of LITTLE ROACHES hiding in the baseboards of the house. DISGUSTING! Figured maybe he didn't know about the situation but his silence speaks louder than my screams when a ROACH touches me!

What can I say.. other than Wormy's Ranch is the purest, most amazing way to spend your weekend…read more The no-frills ranch is tucked away in the heart of Trinity Texas and has been passed down from generation to generation. My fiancé and I booked a hog hunting trip to celebrate our anniversary, and our expectations were far surpassed. Don't come to this ranch expecting foo-foo towels and a mint on the pillow. Put your big-boy pants on and prepare for a fantastic weekend full of rugged living and pure, unadulterated, action-packed fun. The ranch offers a variety of game to hunt, depending on what tickles your fancy. Meat hogs, trophy hogs, deer, coyote, duck.. the list goes on. One thing I would suggest doing for at least one of your nights, is to post-up in the open field on a cool night and look up at the unpolluted stars. Soak in the chatter from the surrounding wildlife and take a moment to decenter. City living will suck you in and before you know it, your mind is warped by corporate structure and frivolous amenities. Everything we envisioned that our trip would be, was not only exceeded, but complimented with true southern hospitality and kindness from Brandon and his awesome cohorts. These are the types of people you just don't come across very often anymore. We never felt like the next hunters in line - we were always treated with personal attention. Bar-none, I would recommend Wormy's Ranch to anyone in need of some R&R. You will leave the ranch stinky, with dirt under your fingernails, and the biggest sh*t-eating grin on your face. Appreciate this preserved gem and respect the land... Take only pictures, leave only footprints.

Friendly and helpful staff. Pontoon and fishing boats, and padddleboard rentals are available. We rented a pontoon boat but the one we were given wasn't quite what was described to us. It was pretty beat up and old. They were apologetic and offered us a refund instead of taking it out, but we did anyway and made the most of it. We have a 5th wheel so don't need lots of amenities, but there is only one shower in each bathroom at the main store area. It's new and clean, but there is only one. No laundry either. And no trash pickup at the pad sites, so bring lots of large trash bags and plan to carry it to the dumpster each day. The store carries lots of necessities for camper upkeep but minimal food, beverage and sundries. Overall a good experience.

They have an underwater rope course you can use to navigate from one side to the other. The waters color and clarity come from its origin. It was originally a Limestone Rock Quarry. Spring water has filled it up making this a good dive location. Another feature I found to be very cool for instructors is the large underwater decks. These are part of the course and make a great place to perform dive skills without disturbing the silt on the bottom. My dive site had an easy entry and exit. The depth ranges depending on the amount of rain throughout the year. This is a great place to teach new students, practice your skills, or train as a dive team. I had brought my own pit to BBQ but for that exact reason I didn't because I heard the stories about the fake charges . I cant stress this enough..make sure your card is locked trust me . During the summer we love the beach area and the pool. Unfortunately this time of year the fish aren't biting well. My issues this time were that the table at our site was very rusty and very lopsided. We had to keep several paper plates under it to keep drinks from toppling over. Also the first day we were there, I could not take my kids to the pool area and hot tub area because there were people in there with their dog running around and not on a leash. Even though it was small it came running up to the fence barking and growling at our dog as we walked by so there was no way I was taking my kids inside. Our fire pit was full of trash when we arrived and it had rained so my husband and son had to empty it out. There was also a lot of dog feces everywhere. It seems no one cleans up after their own pets. I took off one star for the issues because we normally don't have them so I'm hoping it was a one-off. We will definitely be back.

Huntsville State Park is located in the Sam Houston National Forest and is filled with beautiful trees, hiking trails and lakes. On the lake, you can fish, canoe and even swim. There is a designated spot for swimming which we saw but did not partake in. There is no lifeguard, so swim at your own risk and beware of the alligators.
