Renamed to Bataat- I was excited to come here! It was everything I want in a nice daytime cafe. The golden milk turmeric latte was perfection, and paired with the tempeh bibimbap I was in heaven. The service was prompt and kind. They offered plenty of tap water if you need it. Outdoor seating was fantastic during the sunny day. My Dutchman toke me to this adorable cafe & boutique to put a smile on my face and yes it worked.:) Ladies this place is the epitome of femininity, soon as we sat down my eyes began to browse around and I adored every " little thing" about this Dutch cafe. I favored this cafe & boutique not just because the experience was lovely, but because my boyfriend also bought me one of the most beautiful Dutch scarf here. They have the most loveliest scarfs hand made from Peru. This cafe has quickly become one of my favorite places to lounge. I went here to have breakfast. A very polite and caring waitress brought me the vegan pancakes I had ordered, sitting in the cozy location. And boy I can tell you: these are the best pancakes I have eaten in my entire life! They had a cinnamony taste to them and where overall just amazing. The coffee was also good and they have free mint water. Everything on the menu was also reasonably priced, especially for Amsterdam. When I'm back in this town, I'll definitely make sure to come here again! Update: I came again and ordered the pancakes another time. Still amazing! But my friend had a Bibimbap which was rather bland. There is another thing that leads to me taking away one star though. I asked them about the pancake ingredients so I could recreate them at home and they did not want to tell me, as it would be a secret recipe. I do get that, but it is not like I would have wanted to publish an entire recipe, I just wanted to know some ingredients so I could enjoy them in my own private rooms. Great vegan food. We had the weed burger and the Buddha bowl special. The weed burger has a really great texture and the flavors were amazing. My only complaint was that there was a bit too much arugula in the accompanying quinoa salad. The special had a citrusy, spicy sauce and some really tasty homemade pickles on top of quinoa, in addition to cucumber, avocado and other toppings. I would recommend both. We finished the meal with scopes of the pistachio and the matcha vegan ice creams. Both were amazing and really a steal at €1 per scoop. Ignore the other reviews - we got food from the takeaway location (next to the sit down restaurant) and they were able to accept Visa and MasterCard. In fact, they didn't even accept cash at that location. Service was decent and neither of the two people working there were particularly rude. read more

This place! Oh my goodness! Hearts! Swoon! The kitchen is mismatched and sort of country-house/grandma's-comfy-kitchen styled. This place feels like someone's home. I absolutely adore it! So cute. They have a small corner of pretty jewelry and clothing. The ladies are super sweet. The food is homemade with super vegetarian options and gluten free options. I just love love love this place. Had a very good hot and sweet chai tea here in addition to a sandwich of house made hummus and cucumber. I thought the hummus could have used a bit of salt, but I still enjoyed it. It's a fact, your Sunday morning wouldn't be complete without Brunch. If you live in the East, or even if you don't, and feel like "cleansing" your body after a long night Beter & Leuk is the place for you! This cute, little spot is decorated in a modern, minimalist with a twist of hipster style. The chairs don't always match, some have a paint splash on it. There are some clothes for sale, the prices vary but nothing goes beyond 100 Euro. Back to the food! So you will notice that they have a very limited menu because less options means better quality. Everything is cooked on the spot, no reheating nothing, same cause for their bread. They have a good variety of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free (and lactose free is an option). Although the Buckwheat pancake were very tempting, we opted for the (sea)weed burger. It was really good! The green-ish bun, although being flavorful, doesn't taste much like seaweed, either that or seaweed doesn't taste much like anything. The sauce is creme mixed with herbs and garlic, it's everything. The fried patty is made of soy and vegetables, as well, delicious. There are also some vegetables raw or grilled, such as tomatoes, pickles... The side salad made of roasted carrot, sunflower seeds and buckwheat adds some new flavors and textures to this already delicious burger. The staff, finally, was nice, efficient and helpful. They helped us read the menu (that's only Dutch, sadly). Will definitely come back and try their other foods! read more

Really nice cafe serving healthy food in east. I had the bibimbap - really they should change the name because it's not at all authentic (Koran) but it was still very good! With some sort of brown rice mixture, pickled cabbage, nuts, sprouts and tempeh the mix of flavors was excellent. My friend had the courgette soup (soup of the day) which looked great and baked eggs which looked a bit boring :/ My fav part was the free refill on teas! Sadly the cookie that came with it tasted a bit like soft cardboard and baking powder. But that aside I'm a big fan! read more

Had a delicious thing that described itself as bibimbap here the other day--wasn't bibimbap, as partner said (he is Korean-American, he ought to know). More of a tasty rice bowl with pickles, tempeh and a fresh and zesty salad dressing. He thought it was tasty too, but felt it was a bit weird to call something Korean when it clearly was not--cultural appropriation. I returned this afternoon to get a matcha latte, and as I tried to pay by card I discovered that they don't actually take MasterCard or visa debit. I was polite in any case, but the lady serving said rather bluntly "matcha is expensive and I have already made it" and then went on to tell me how maestro is used to pay everywhere in Amsterdam. This is not true-I have paid with both MasterCard and visa debit all over town. I offered to pay later and said I could leave my name and number, she hastily took down these details--a clear indication that she didn't trust I would return. I returned 10 minuted later to pay. But hey, I was going to return for breakfast the following morning. It's only a few blocks from my hotel. I won't do so now. Perhaps it's much better business sense to act cool about it and say "that's fine, pay later I trust you"? read more

How do you burn a croissant? You come to Beter & leuk they will teach you how. Burnt croissants and lumpy( yes lumpy) coffee. The service was slow it took 30 mins to get service . We had two croissants and one eggless salad sandwich . First the coffee was horrible, lumpy and grainy not smooth at all . I don't know what they did but they need to undo it. The eggless salad was under seasoned and the lentil salad that came with it was and after thought that really didn't need to be there as it was as flavorless as the eggless salad. But I take issue with the burnt , hard croissant.. why burn something that we all know should never be burned , should never be hard? This is a delicate French pastry that should be light and easy to pull apart, not a hard shell that when you tapped on it with a knife it didn't move. It was a waste of money and time. I got the buckwheat pancakes and turmeric latte. The food was a small portion and tasted decent, the service was horrible despite it not even being crowded. It took 45 minutes to get my latte while people who came after me were already almost done eating. I had to sit with someone else's dirty cup on the table from the time I was seated until I got my pancakes. Nothing special about the food, latte was cold and no flavor. Most of the menu is vegan which I was happy to see, but disappointed in the service and taste. I've eaten here a couple of times and it was always lovely. Had a late breakfast here yesterday only to be confirmed once again in my great expectations. I had the days special (vegetable frittata), which was simply amazing. The tastes were filling and deliberate (which is rare for a vegetarian dish) and the presentation fantastic. This is a slow food kind of place, so if you're in a hurry; don't go here. Otherwise you'll enjoy. They have a great high tea brunch special which is very popular, but personally, I like the regular menu more. Recently, they've also added the Dutch Weedburger (all-time Food Truck hit) to their menu. Also love the pancakes:-), but that almost goes without saying. read more

A super snack bar: everything organic, sustainable and conscious healthy. Delicious! A yummy Quinoa salad with a delicious spinach soup. And my absolute favorite: the carrot cake! We went here for breakfast around 12pm (probably a brunch) and although we waited a while for food, it was worth it. I had the spinach pancakes which were absolutely rich in flavor and my girlfriend got the buckwheat pancakes which tasted amazing. A tip-the lemonade is more of a ginger-aid but that seems to be an Amsterdam thing. 4/5 only because I'm not big on breakfast/brunch. a girlfriend had suggested we meet here and it was perfect girlie energy which i love! i had the orange cake which was very good and you could tell it was homemade. i also had a fruit smoothie. the taste was wonderful but i wish it had been colder. it was almost room temperature which is not that pleasing for a smoothie. i also loved how each table was it's own little vignette of seating. none of the tables matched. i didn't get a chance to do any shopping (cute clothing and jewelry) but that gives me a reason to go back! read more
