Cute and I loooove their apple jack chai. Prices are good and service always seems nice. There's hidden seating upstairs that is really fun!

I will never shop at Schuler's bookstore in michigan ever again after the RSD I witnessed. My first…read moreRSD and sadly probably my last. I made calls to multiple Record stores within the last 2 months prepping, planning on where I wanted to go. Schuler's seemed like the hidden gem no one goes to. I was told, along with several other people that they HONOR THE LINE. I showed up at 4am. I was second in line, made friends with the first and third in line who were also told they honor the line. at 8:45ish a man came out and took note of how many people wanted Taylor Swift only. I was hopeful I was getting my entire ISO and my oldest would get what they want to because again, 2nd in line. Doors open at 9am and the man who came out earlier announces free for all. At that point it became a safety issue, people running, pushing, hollering. I got everything I was after however they only had 1 copy of what Toby wanted and they sold out because of course. I called the grand rapids location, the GM was super nice, offered to send us the vinyl free if they had it in stock but sadly they had only gotten 1 as well and it sold out. I am so sad for my oldest because this was supposed to be a fun experience and because of one careless man, RSD has been forever tainted for us because I really don't want to risk sitting out from 4am-9am in the rain ever again just to be trampled on.

The used book venture is another topic. Online they have a number of parameters for the used books you bring in. some being "no library marking" and "no creased spines", they do not accept textbooks, bibles or magazines. I have personally seen all of those things on their shelves from the bible and religious text, to library markings. so it does bother me when I come in with books in good condition and am turned away, BUT then i go and those same books are on their shelves to be sold. make it make sense.

One of the antiques is the fellow who works here who is certainly not someone you want to depend on if you're in a hurry. He is a sweet old man who always has the time for an impromptu chat about this or that and he has a vague idea where you might find that or this in this store. It's very cramped and difficult to walk through, let alone find anything specific in, but it's so very interesting. Inventory keeps piling in, quite literally, and I don't think I've ever used, literally, so appropriately. I found some openly racist anthropology ("South American Redskins") from the early 20th century, and some truly vintage racist (and racial) legal text from a little bit earlier ("People of color property issues" and yes, that's the origin of the allegedly open minded euphemism, segregation law), sheet music from the Roaring Twenties, Shakespeare annotated meticulously two generations ago by a theater professor, a photography coffee table book from Post-War (World War II) Japan - the era when my father met my mother in rebuilt Hiroshima. There's a fascinating cramped filing cabinet full of antique postcards and while I was there a Korean War veteran and his middle aged adult daughter found a WWII era post card that had been sent to a relative (penny stamp affixed) from Europe. If you're the sort of person who thinks that rummaging through a museum warehouse or a restricted archive would be fascinating or an antique book collector (either a collector of old books, or an old collector of books) this is a must-see one hour destination.

We definitely recommend Unicorn One book store. We have been shopping here for years, and it is one…read moreof our favorite book stores anywhere. The store has a remarkable variety of books on all sorts of subjects. It's particularly refreshing that the selection includes older books as well as more current ones; when you find a good author you want to read everything they have written, not just the latest book! Also, the store carries hardcovers as well as paperbacks, which is a definite find, since they're scarcer in used shops and I've always preferred hardcovers - since they don't fall apart easily and the print is bigger. It's a great selection. The shelves are well organized by category and author, but there are also miscellaneous boxes to go through that have not been filed yet. A bonus treasure trove. Everything here is very reasonably priced, and you can bring in books to get discounted prices. I never leave empty handed. I always find something here that I need every time we visit. A great store also means a great owner. It is all part of the experience. She is friendly and helpful. She knows where everything is in the store and can suggest titles and authors that suit my reading preferences. She knows her customers well and her recommendations are always great. She is very nice, very intelligent, and very knowledgeable, not only about books and authors, but about a wide range of subjects. She is very well read. We can discuss books, film, television, the book industry, and anything under the sun. We come for the books and stay for the conversation. The owner is awesome, so her shop is a destination. One of the best used book stores we've been to, and that is saying something. We drive almost an hour to shop and visit, and are here every other month or so. Definitely worth checking out.

There were some books still in boxes, but there are so many books that she doesn't have enough room to display them all! We bought a lot of books and were both happy with our purchases.
