There was nothing wrong with the tank, is was just another step to get the property and house ready to sell. The technician from Best Septic, who came claimed that there was a leak and the tank needs to be replaced. In disbelief I asked another septic tank company and inspector to check the tank, who certified that the tank was just fine, and not extra work needed to be done. I almost paid a high price for a completely unnecessary work. Looking at the other negative reviews, Best Septic seems to have also a tendency to overcharge for often minor works. I couldn't be more pleased with the service from this company. From the moment I called, their customer service was friendly, professional, courteous and informative. I was quickly scheduled an appointment and given a time window in which the technician would arrive. Terry Wells, the tech, showed up on time, actually ahead of time which is always a huge plus. He was professional, super friendly and highly knowledgeable. He took the time to clearly explain what he was doing and what condition the system was in. Plus, he was happy to answer all my questions. Terry also gave me some helpful maintenance tips to extend the life of the system. I called Best Septic for a pumping of my septic tank. We set a date, and was told that the driver would call when on the way. The visit was for 1:00 to 5:00 and the driver called at 1: 15 and was on the way. David was very pleasant and completed his job efficiently. We also had some repairs to be made on our drainfield, and David relayed the message to his company. A few days later, Travis Best called and said he would look at it and give us a quote. A couple of days later he came out and looked at our situation and prepared a quote that was substantially lower than what we expected. I've been a contractor in various trades and know how this works. We accepted the quote and set a date for the repairs. They showed up when they said they would and got to work promptly. I live out in the country in the Coburg Hills. I'm a retired teacher living alone, I've only lived in this house for under two years, and I recently had an issue with my sewer lines backing up. I called around to see what plumbing company I should call to come up and fix the problem. "Best Septic Tank Plumbing" was referred to me by another company that I called, so I looked up their ratings on Yelp. I was reluctant to call them because they had several "one star" reviews, but because they were recommended by another plumbing service, I thought I'd try their company. On the day of service, the gentleman who arrived to do the job, couldn't even figure out where the septic tank was or where the line extended. I had to dig through the documents that were left by the previous owner to find this information for a "certified" plumber, who in my opinion, should have been able to figure this out on his own, ya think? When he finally figured it out, he ran an "expensive" camera through the pipe just to tell me that he couldn't do the job because it was too clogged. To top everything off, they recommended that I get a different plumber, and then the company still proceed to charge me the quoted price of $450.00 for a job that they clearly couldn't even complete! I called Best Septic to complain, but all they could tell me was that this is the price for using these "cameras" to diagnose the problem whether it could be fixed or not. I explained to the person I spoke with that the consumer should be told these things up front before accepting the assignment to begin with. As a result, I felt taken advantage of, and I was left paying a horrendous bill for poor service and deceiving representation. My advise to any future consumer is to be very cautious about the services that this company is claiming that they can perform before you even consider hiring them. I learned my lesson; when Yelp reviewers, like me, give a business a poor rating, I need to trust my instincts, and in the future call a different service! read more

We found out we needed a new drain field, when we called these guys for a bid they were quick and friendly, all the bids we got were about the same so we went with best septic because of how quick and easy it was to get answers / any communication. From the ladies in the office, to the owner, to the guys who did the work, everyone was professional and friendly. When we had to wait longer than expected for permitting best septic kept in communication with us, then as soon as it was permitted the job got done. During work the guys took time to answer my questions and show me what they were doing, and even answer some general questions about yard drainage issues. They were so great! I requested a septic pump from Best because the system was slow to drain. The tech arrived on the same day I requested service. It had been sometime since the tank had been pumped. I got a estimate of 650.00 to 750.00 For the pump. The tech said it had been so long since the tank had been pumped he may have to charge extra. When I got the bill they charged 760.00 for the basic pump (what happened to 750??) claiming he pumped 1200 gallons out of a 1000 gallon tank.Well ok I can live with that, but he charged 100.00 for extra labor. This guy was here for less than 3 hours He did nothing but pump the tank. He did not go in the tank or any other thing. They have a fuzzy way of labor charges. I appreciate that Best Septic was able to do a septic system inspection within the tight timeframe I had, but once I started interacting with them, it became clear why they were more available, and why their bid for a replacement system was far below anyone else's. The technician who did my inspection did not recognize Orangeburg pipe nor had he ever heard of it. He wasn't concerned about the bright green vegetation over the outlet line that indicated to me and everyone else that it was leaking. The man who consulted about my new drainfield did not take into account the high water table of the neighborhood or the tight setbacks that were likely to make an ATT system necessary. I paid $700 for Best to jet and inspect the inlet line and never received a written report of what they saw despite my repeated requests. They gave verbal information that conflicted with their written report. In the end, their "no big deal" assessment was contradicted by the house's well testing positive for fecal bacteria. read more

Best replaced our septic system and it was a horrible experience. First, we were interested in getting approval for a 4 bedroom and Best tried to upsell us on a more expensive system. Instead of the more expensive system we talked directly to the county inspector and received 4 bedroom approval for no extra money. Also, did not communicate well. We had a beautiful tree than they need to get close to the base and so they used the back hoe to strip off the bottom branches. In the process of taking off the bottom branches, they also took off bark and scared the tree trunk. If they had talked to me I could have tied up branches and cut off the lower ones. Then to top it off, we needed a riser and Best was going to charge us over $300 for it. Instead, ordered it directly for about $40 and installed in less than 10 minutes. This firm operates unethically: it began the job, only did part of the work, collected a fee, and then began demanding to do a bunch of additional and unnecessary work before they would complete the job. I'm over a barrel: the partially completed job is of no value to me, so I need to start over with another firm. From on-line reviews, I can see Best Septic has left customers in the lurch this way before. So while Best Septic might be a reasonable firm if you only want a simple pumping job, I'd stay away if you have anything that might turn out to be more complicated. read more

Entered into an annual service agreement with them and they discovered a couple issues where the electrical box need to be moved in order to service the system. They promptly completed the work. I recently had this company out for pumping 2 tanks and inspection of the drain field lines. I was canceled last minute for the first attempt and I was told at that time that I would receive a discount. When they did come out and do the work they were here for a total of 1 hour 30 minutes, the inspector was less time than that probably closer to 1 hour. I have 2 tanks on the property with easy access and they charged $1000 to pump and another $600 to inspect them. Every year they send out reminder cards for service with a $25 discount offer. So I called after they were here and reminded them about the discount they offered over the phone during the cancellation call the prior week. She said she would work on it but it's been weeks now no discount. Very unorganized company and claimed they were too small to give a discount but had no problem collecting $$1600. for an hour and a half of service. I would definitely not recommend this company, they are rude and inconsiderate. Then a promise of a discount not delivered. Ripoff!!! read more

Tank was full and not draining to the field. They charged me to pump 100 gallons more than the tank held. Claimed it was backflow from the field. This was after over a month with no rain and not using the tank. We dug up the outlet pipe . The pipe to the distribution box had dropped 5" from the tank due to ground settling and was not even connected and completely blocked at pipe and outlet with rock hard dirt. Make your own conclusions. I will hire someone else if I need any work done. read more

The administrators of this company are super nice. The guys who did the work seemed to know what they were doing. However, the work we needed required several steps. Each step required a different crew and so there would be multiple appointments. The company would set an appointment time and then the workers showed up at random times and in different order. Many times, they did not know if the previous crew had come and done their part or not. There was a complete lack of communication between the company's employees and with us. I work from home and this was very inconvenient. Additionally, we never received a bid and/or schedule so when they began to ask for payment, it was not clear what we were paying for. The company couldn't explicitly say what we were paying for because they did not know specifically what each crew did. The very last step was to pump our tank and, after they left, we discovered a pile of kitty litter that the crew threw on our driveway where their truck had leaked oil. The litter is still there. The oil stain is still there. I'm tempted to ask them to clean it up but don't want to deal with scheduling them again. read more

on Monday dec. 9, Best septic pumped my septic tank and told me that the baffles in my tank should be replaced as they were cast iron and prone to clogging. This pumping service cost $500 and took less than an hour. I scheduled the baffle replacement for Thursday dec. 12. They told me it would cost $600. On Thursday, two guys showed up and one went into the tank with a hammer and chisel. I could hear him tapping on the old baffles which apparently breaks them off. The other guy handed him several pvc elbows and lengths of pipe and some glue. he assembled the new baffles and installed them. He then came out of the tank and replaced the cover and backfilled as I had asked him to. Total time on site app 1/2 hour. Total cost of pvc app $20-25. $600. These guys must make a hell of an hourly wage. I called and was told $600 is the standard price. In other words, tough s***. I told them the had taken their last money from me. read more
