We worked with Alex Cross for about 8 months before we finally found our dream house! We weren't in a rush and wanted to make sure we found a forever home that we loved, so it was a long process. This review is for my realtor Chuck Gullett. So I told Chuck he's like an anti-realtor and I meant it in the best way. I'll admit, I have some maybe not nice stereotypes I associated with realtors that made me initially reluctant to use one. I imagined using a realtor meant working with some super flashy, slightly neurotic and slimy salesman type. Chuck is the antithesis of all of this! He is so genuine, really chill (he makes the process fun not stressful, even when it is really stressful), and seriously knows his stuff. You will learn so much. The first day- he goes over the process and gives you a packet with important information like a buying process timeline/ overview. I recommend holding on to all of this and taking notes- this is a helpful reference to have down the road. (I'm sure there is an analogous process if you're selling not buying). During the search process he goes over and points out details from the building structure, materials, details inside a property and explains why it's good or why it's bad, or sometimes- why it could be relevant years down the road as homeowner (or in attempting to sell the place down the road). When seeing places- he'll ask about relevant things I didn't even know to ask (and often he would ask Qs on my own checklist that I would forget to ask). Chuck is really deliberate and thoughtful about the search process. He's not just helping you find find a place that meets your current checkboxes- he's trying to find you a home that will remain a good fit- anticipating things that might come up later on (that I would not have thought to worry about). And he never makes you feel rushed or pressured- totally the anti realtor! Okay- and this is so important- he is so accessible and responsive. I would regularly send emails full of long winded Qs and he would take the time to answer every Q (knowing full well it might mean a follow up email with more long winded Qs from me). Even after my home purchase I've got a million Qs about work I want to do on my home, appliances to buy, etc- and he knows I'll be asking him things, running stuff by him- and he seems totally okay with it (actually excited about all these projects). I'm now a first time home owner and Chuck made the process way less overwhelming and actually exciting. I might have lucked out in finding him (I think he keeps a limited client base so that he is able to be so attentive and focused, plus I think a lot of his clients are long standing that have worked with Chuck on multi purchases/ sales) but if you're able to work with him- I highly recommend it! read more

To give you some context about myself, I work in the Market Research industry. I was referred to Chuck by a friend who worked with Chuck to find and purchase a condo. I was moving into Chicago from out of town and planned a trip for apartment hunting. We're raving about Jessica Schimpff and Best Chicago Properties. Jessica knocked our socks off when we went to look for our first home. We first contacted Jessica when we saw other positive reviews of her work online. My husband and I interviewed several agents with offices west of downtown in our targeted neighborhoods. We brought a detailed list of questions and a description of what we were looking for. Of all the agents we talked to, Jessica was the only one who had a full questionnaire for us too. She listened carefully to our answers and took notes -- the only agent we met who did this. But she had us at the answer to what we thought was a simple question: "How many buyers are you working with right now?" Other agents gave an answer along the lines of, "Serious buyers? About [X]. Casual buyers? Eh...about [X times 10]." Jessica gave us an exact number, described each one briefly (by type -- no names), and said that she preferred not to work with casual buyers at all. Our decision was made immediately. Our search lasted a few months and our criteria went through some big changes. Jessica kept right up with us and always had our most recent priorities in mind. She was incredibly responsive seven days a week, both by email and by phone. She was on top of new listings and alerted us to several things we might have missed. Showings were scheduled ASAP and she was on time (usually early) to all of them. After showings, Jessica would update our online portfolio with our comments in what seemed like seconds. I worked with Doug Stachowiak on two separate deals. The first was our first condo purchase (with all the stress and education necessary for a first homebuyer) and then two years later when we sold that condo and purchased our current condo, both in the West Loop. Doug is calm, very knowledgeable, extremely patient and overall my husband and I knew Doug was sincerely looking out for our best interest. During our first home search, Doug must have taken us to 30 showings, at least. He was patient and helped us through the many processes (pre-approval, search, making an offer, negotiations, contract, inspections, loan approval, closing).
