It is always hit and miss when it comes to this store I find. There are more times than not, I go in, get tired of waiting for an associate and then leave. Each department has different people who are more knowledgeable when it comes to them, so make sure you ask the blue shirt associate if they know anything about what you're looking for before you start to waste your time to explain what it is you're looking for. The store is large and roomy and for those who don't know, the front is not the only checkout line... they have check out tills scattered at the back of the store that are faster sometimes. On huge sales days.... it is really hard to know which line you need to be in and it's best to just ask. I find that I tend to go to the store when they have their sales on as I prefer buying from a store than ordering online.... so just have to be prepared to be patient. read more

I witnessed horrible racism towards a white woman in the phone department today. Horrible customer service

I went there with my son who was in the process of buying a new TV. When we arrive in the TV section there wasn't a sales person in sight. We waited for about ten mins and the finally asked a Best Buy person who told us she doesn't work in that depth, and the sales person for that section was busy. So, we waited another 10 mins and finally approached a couple LG TV sales rep who were in the store. They helped find the TV we acted. When we finally found sales person, we told her which TV she wanted. It was open box so they had to find all the accessories. They looked for another 19 mins and nothing. We finally approached the Best Buy sales person and said not to bother as we will look elsewhere. She was not the least apologetic and couldn't have cared less losing a sale. We bought the same TV at the Brick and the whole sale took no more than 5 mins. In the car and gone. Wake up Best Buy, you're going to lose a lot of customer with that attitude. read more

I really like Best Buy. And, more often than not, they really do have the best buys. This is where I go to buy all of my electronics. They also have great electronics' accessories. I buy my iPod accessories here and even my camera accessories. I even bought my camera here! The few things I don't buy at Best Buy are movies and music. I usually buy previously viewed movies at Blockbuster and I get my music from iTunes. I've had some computer questions in the past and used the resources of the Geek Squad. They've been pretty good. Sometimes I have trouble finding a staff member to help me find what I'm looking for and when I do, they often aren't sure of what to tell me. I think that the staff here are trained in one section and that's it because no one seems to know much beyond their own area. On a busy day, that can get frustrating. I like Best Buy though. Stopped at this location with a coworker while on a work trip in the Edmonton area. We initially planned to browse, and make an informed decision on a notebook purchase for a later date. But the offerings were too good, we ended up purchasing a $900 notebook at a decently discounted rate (with the geek squad warranty, internet security and all). The two gentlemen that assisted us were so well informed, listened very well, and helped us make a great informed purchase without any pressure whatsoever and at a discounted rate at that. This is the one store I generally try to ignore. For several reasons. I really miss FUTURE SHOP as they were a much better store to find things you need. Best Buy when they first opened up had an abundance of staff who knew their stuff when it comes to product knowledge. Now it seems you have to know all about a product and just go in to buy it because some staff ( other than Geek Squad ) have no clue about the product- Ill go find someone who can help is the sentence most heard. What has happened to this store? Several years ago they were on their way downhill.. now it seems to be rock bottom. I went in earlier today and the first thing I noticed was how there was hardly any staff members. My previous experience in this store has never been spectacular ( even back in the day when they had an abundance of stock ).. Best Buy is my default store of choice for my electronic needs. They have a wide selection of electronics, but do not be fooled by their name... their prices are not always the best in town. Some research is required, especially with their sister company Future Shop as they usually have comparable deals. Their price matching guarantee is also helpful. What is convenient about this location is that there is a Future Shop less than 5 minutes away. The downside is that, like every other store in South Edmonton Common, you need a car to get around. The layout of this store is the same as your would find from any other store. Once you walk in you're (usually) welcome by the front greeter. They may become annoying sometimes, however they are really useful for new patrons or if you're in a rush and do not want to waste time for searching for anything yourself. I found the staff somewhat knowledgeable in their area, however I am very tech savy, so I tend to not to bother the staff. The parking lot does get very busy during the Christmas season, and be ready to wait for +30 minutes in the return line at customer service during boxing week! read more

Wow! Best has upped their game with this newly renovated space. I have been here many times prior to the renovation, and several times since then. I must say, the layout is great. It is so easy to find your way around. They have great set-ups for all your home electronics and entertainment needs. Lots of hands on experience as most things are on display. They even have a great selection of appliances. And in case you didn't know, Best Buy will match amazon.ca pricing, and for in-town competitors who have the item in stock, I believe Best Buy will beat the price by 10%. I was actually quite impressed with the Customer Service area. I had to exchange a defective Christmas present, and I think I cam a few days after Christmas and the line was short and moved quick. Also, there were constantly more staff coming up to open another checkout without being called. Or maybe there is a secret button somewhere they push, but either way, I am super impressed. Had the worst experience ever with geek squad. My computer wouldn't turn on and so I gave it to them under warranty. They failed to fix my computer which means I lost all my work and data on that laptop, they weren't able to replace the laptop with the one I bought from them just a year before this. So I got a different laptop, at which point they informed me they are waiving my 3 year geek squad coverage (which I paid 300 dollars for) and said I am forced to go on a 25 dollar a month plan to continue having coverage. SO now I am out 300 dollars, all of my data on my laptop, and when I asked them if there was any way I could rectify this they said no. However when I called geek squad on the phone the representative said something could probably have been done. So long story short **** you best buy and **** you geek squad I hope nobody gets hooped into this kind of situation again. read more

I went to the South Edmonton Common location of Best Buy looking for some very specific items recently, and was surprised at a couple of things ... ... there was a line up of people standing around the outside of the store waiting for a new game to be released at midnight. This wasn't bad - just unexpected! ... almost every shelf had hardly any stock on it. This was unusual. I looked through the DVD section and the laptop accessories section and could hardly find anything. It was very disappointing. ... there were about 4 sales guys in the computer area that were standing around talking to each other without serving customers. I had to ask for their help and felt like I was interrupting them. All in all, I would recommend Best Buy all the time, but was disappointed with this location. I like this branch of Best Buy because I've actually had good service here. In general, living 5 years in the US makes me trust Best Buy more than Futureshop when it comes to prices, deals etc. I know, sounds pathetic! Have been here a couple of times for very specific things. First time, I was with a friend who wanted to get a new DSLR that they had on sale. It wasn't one of those big sales with millions of people lining up so things were kinda quiet. The guy who helpful us was knowledgeable and could help us look for good lenses to buy too. I know, Nikon lenses fit with any Nikon frame, but he also suggested things like the newer lens over the older since our model was newer and there might have been compatibility issues with the older one. The second time, I was looking for a powerpoint projector remote. While they didn't have it, they could immediately recommend that I try out Staples - which they did have. So all in all, I was happy that they knew their stuff. It's not that obvious when the staff know for a fact that the shop doesn't sell an obscure product. read more

Never have I had to deal with such idiotic, inept sales people in my life. It was the week after the new iPhone launched and I called this place hoping to find an IPhone 6s Plus in rose gold. I wasn't expecting much, everywhere else had been sold out at this point but I figured why not just call and see? I spoke with an associate in the apple department and specifically asked if they had any of the new iPhone 6s Plus in rose gold. He put me on hold for a couple of minutes to go check. I was still expecting at this point to have no luck. He answered again and said that they did in fact have one left. I excitedly asked him to put it on hold for me and said he would do that, took my full name and phone number and told me that the phone would be waiting for me at the mobile desk upfront. Now I don't live particularly far, it only took me about 15 minutes to get to the store. I waited patiently for my turn in a decent sized line up but that was to be expected. I took my seat and explained to the mobile specialist that my was being held here, gave him my name and number and at the very moment he turned to open the drawer for what I assume was were they keep their on hold stuff, a lady (apparently the manger) pulled out the last iPhone 6s Plus rose gold, took the sticky note off of it with my info written on it and proceeded to sell it to another customer! The associate I was dealing with then told me that they had unfortunately not saved my phone upfront and had sold out and that there was nothing he could do for me! I just watched your manager sell my phone! I've never been a violent person but in that very moment I had a small understanding why people attack each other on Black Fridays every year. I tend to buy a lot of DVDs and Blu-Rays, and Best Buy normally has the best prices, if not the selection that I'd like (I have some odd tastes in movies). iPod accessories, iPhone accessories, video games - you name it, and I can find it at Best Buy. I also immensely appreciate the fact that the staff at Best Buy do NOT work on commission. The mobile section here is really the only reason to come to this Best Buy. The staff in the cell phone department have always been incredible to us, and I'm likely to return whenever I need a new phone for me or my family. That said, the rest of the store is in shambles. The shelves are understocked, and the construction of the "Samsung Store inside a store" left two other major sections in disarray. And good luck finding anyone to help if you're not in the cellular department! I was on the hunt for printer ink and it wasn't going so well. Future Shop was a bust, with a sales guy telling me, "Um, well this is where all the printer ink is, so if we have it, it will be in this section." Oh, OK. Wow. Helpful. (That bit was sarcasm.) Best Buy didn't fare much better in terms of staff support, but they did have a very, *very* handy guide to printers and corresponding ink. I knew my printer is a Canon, so I just had to flip through the booklet until I found the picture of my printer, then it listed all of the compatible inks. Genius! Their website is really awesome too because you can shop around and even find out if a store near you has what you're looking for in stock. The greatest thing about this place is that they don't work off commission and they make it really clear. The staff are very helpful, but they really do just want you to get the best product for you, even if it means spending less. I hate being sold to, so I would likely shop here before going to Future Shop. They claim that nobody beats their prices, but I have on occasion found cheaper prices at Wal-Mart. read more

Well because it is currently a crazy time of year due to the fact that there are about eight days until Christmas I usually try to avoid the big electron stores; one of them is Best Buy. But I was pretty desperate to find an iTunes give card I decided to bite the built. Form the first moment I walked thought the sliding glass doors I felt my anxiety level shoot though the roof. I decided to flag someone down, find my gift card and then get out. The sweet looking young man, who could probably sense my internal turmoil, pointed me in the right direction. After dodging groups of people whom suddenly stop in the aisles (I hate that!) and avoiding getting hit by shopping carts I found my iTunes gift card in the desired demonization. I was so happy that I actually found one, many of the other stores I had been were totally sold out. I was so close to raising my prize in the air and jump around in triumph. As I was one my way to the cash registers cheap cameras starting at $99 stopped me! After fighting an internal battle with my hand to put the camera back (it was either the camera or food for the month) and just walk away. But walking meant running into the DVD department. Movies are great prices! Again, I found myself just trying to say no! After escaping the great deals on movies I ran into a fantastic price on a Wii system for $119. Somebody was against me today because I just kept finding even better things to buy. I found myself suddenly wishing I had someone to hear my Christmas wish list so that they could pick up a little somethin' somethin' for me. Well, here's hoping that some of those prices stick around throughout the year. I am defiantly not going to Best Buy on Boxing Day; that would be suicide. The staff was really relaxed, which was very surprising because the store was like a mad house. The guy in the DVD department was so awesome. I then went to another section and asked an associate to page someone to the video games department, he paged a person for me and they never came. I decided to called the store from my phone while waiting for someone to save the day and answer my question, I got a hold of a sales associate, they said they would check, after 15 minutes on hold, someone else answered and asked if I needed help, they just immediately told me the product isn't carried at this location. The video game section has been reduced to a small corner about 20% of the size it used to be to make room for a new large appliance section. A lot of the shelves in the now reduced video game section were empty (pictures uploaded) and there were numerous cardboard boxes in the aisles filled with what I assume is supposed to be the stock for the shelves. can't even give this a rating as the service they give is non-existent especially the geek-squad in which I made the unfortunate mistake of paying for. The original install was pathetic and they managed to somewhat fix that. When I brought it back to the store - and was I spammed- not my bitdefender-should have took the hp that a sale rep was showing me, too late now. These are the issue's the laptop they sold me have experienced 1. Battery drains too fast - Ideapad Laptops 2. Windows freezing or slow performance 3. Stuck on splash screen - Idea laptops/desktops 4. Battery not charge or will not fully charge on idea/Lenovo laptops 5. Power on, no display and no beep sound 6. Unable to connect to LAN or wired network my friend Shawn who is a computer expert gave this opinion from the s/n It's not a great machine. Hard drive is too slow, not enough ram, processor is wimpy. It's about as low end as you can get. Paid $900.00 for it. Shawn told me I could upgrade this one to an SSD disk and 8GB of RAM. It would be reasonable then and the cost isn't too much. Start with the SSD. Tried to phone best buy no connections to busy as they are are doing Black Friday. figures Will talk to Lenovo directly as they want me to send it in. Best Buy hosted a special reward zone members night on Sunday June 3. It was a decent experience and there were some good deals if you had a lot of money to spend. For a student like me, the sale was sub par. I wanted to get a T.V. stand because they were 30% off, but every stand that i chose was not in stock and they had nothing for less then 400.00. The staff appeared disinterested and were very unhelpful in the T.V. area. However, the service I received in the games area was excellent. We went looking for a new tablet and against my better judgment we went to Bestbuy South Common and got the usual treatment! After about 20 minutes and various attempts to find somebody to help us - we left! Well they just loose me as a customer. My first incidents with them was 2016 Black Friday event. There was a huge line up but I was patient with it. An employee of them told us to move in to a just open counter (wow that was great!). But the stupid cashier does not know how to take payment with their own Best Buy Credit Card. I told him to run it again but this guy who help us to move in that cashier told me "NO!" and he said my card was defective. WTF I was embarrassed and he put my stuff on the side. I called their Best Buy Card and of course the card was "OK". So then i went to the original line I was, it was a no brainer that the card works! F'n complain to the manager and gave me $50 discount to shut my mouth! OK the second one was paying the best buy credit card to their store. F'n two months worth of payment did not reach their credit company! There arguing that i should keep my receipts. What?! ok so I pulled out my bank statements and I showed them proof that they took payments from my bank. They could not figure it out! WTF. I told their F'n Manager to train their cashiers properly because it seems that they are just taking money! They ended up paying for it! Well I was lucky enough it was not a tremendous purchase! This store has gone steeply downhill, since the Samsung and Microsoft and Apple displays took over the store. So now there are dedicated spaces for the big manufacturers to show off their devices, but now there are things like tablets duplicated in at least two different places, the placement of shelves don't fit anymore and there isn't room for any other products in the store. Shelves are messy and stock is very poor. The service is poor as they get close to closing as well. I'm starting to get the feeling that this chain is in trouble - they need to invest in their stores again. They're so worried about online competition, they're forgetting their brick and mortar services. I rely heavily on this store - they need to stick around! When we said what we wanted and he couldn't help us with it , he immediately took us to the the computer geeks to help us. We were very pleased with the service even if they didn't have what we wanted. They directed us to another store where we did get the specialized piece we needed. read more

I find half of the staff don't know much about the items here. They won't give you the nitty gritty on that laptop, that printer, that camera, that projector or that watch because they just don't know. And neither do I, so I rely on Google. Buyer Beware at Best Buy!!! My husband and I are very disappointed in Best Buy Stores and will no longer shop there or recommend this store to anyone else. We purchased a TV for our oldest son for Christmas at Best Buy at the South Edmonton Common store. It was a 50" Samsung Plasma TV. We paid cash for the television and upon pick up my husband was asked to sign a form stating that the TV was not damaged after the salesman "helped" him inspect it. The fellow who had my husband sign the form opened the box and showed my husband the TV from above. The screen was covered with plastic film and my husband inspected it carefully and could see that it was not cracked or broken. We were very careful to keep the TV indoors and to transport it with care at all times. It was definitely not damaged while in our care. Yet, when my son unwrapped it at his home to set it up, the inside of the plasma TV was damaged. This could not be seen from above and was not damage to the glass screen, but was internal damage. It could not be seen until the plastic coating was removed and the TV was removed from the box. The salesman did not open the box so that we could inspect it from an angle so that this could have been observed. We would have had to completely unpack the TV to have seen this and remove the plastic film. We followed the standard procedure implied by the salesman when he opened the front of the box and allowed my husband to look inside. We assumed that we could trust the salesman and the company. Best Buy has told us that because my husband signed that there was no damage to the TV, they will not replace it. We are out $1,000.00. They will not negotiate or talk to us. We are very upset and feel this is unfair. Over the years we have bought thousands of dollars of electronics equipment from Best Buy and have never returned anything before. This is the last purchase we will every make from this store and we will encourage all of our friends and aquaintances not to buy at Best Buy. Best Buy is definitely NOT the best buy!!!! Terrible is the word to describe best buy. I'm a first time shopper here and after this experience you'll never see me there again. I bought a laptop and has told I would get it in a few hours after they installed a software. I had to go to the store the following day to find out if was ready because you can't get through to the store on the phone. The box was label inspected by best buy however out of the box there was a faulty key. Smdh. I went back for an exchange and they insisted on repairing the key which would be another day.
