This is specific to the treatment i got from Geek Squad counter in Ankeny. Beyond this i have no issues. To start off, i upgraded to a new AM5 motherboard, with DDR5 and CPU (reused everything else) and after hours of struggling to get the internet connection to work (google troubleshooting) i ran down my issues to be 1 of 2 things, 1. My ethernet cable needed replaced, or 2. My motherboard didnt come with drivers to run LAN. After asking the Geek Squad worker if he had any ideas he told me he was "pretty sure its a defective motherboard, I've built a lot of computers and never seen that happen" just matter of fact and no looking into it at all. I felt pretty thrown aside by this. Sure enough the drivers needed installed on a thumb drive and installed. Everything is good now. read more

After we arrived in Ankeny for the Memorial Day weekend, I discovered the charging cord for my Dell laptop had been left at home in Illinois. I went to Best Buy in Ankeny and bought a wall charger and USB-C cable. A very helpful and competent associate (from the Geek Squad I suspect) helped me and made sure the new purchase functioned properly with my laptop before l left the store. Everything happened quickly and efficiently. I plan to use my new purchase going forward as my "traveling" charger because it's lighter weight than the one that came with the laptop. read more

I didn't like my last few Best Buy experiences - started online or in-store. This made me reconsider for some purchases in the future. Used online ordering to grab an in store pickup for some SD cards I need this weekend. No one else had them out in the countryside. Using Best Buy's online service made it pretty painless for me to drive over and grab them. On top of it, the staff was very friendly and customer service oriented. They were cheerful, kind and greeted everybody that walked in. read more

My first review because this place was awesome. My firestick had went out for the last time so decided to get a fire tv for bedroom. Saw they had an open box good condition 32 inch for 67 bucks. Since it was open decided to go in to look at it. Got there and immediately asked if I needed something. I told them and another guy directed me to that area. We couldn't find the one and he grabbed another person to check in back. Even as I waited, several other employees came by to make sure I was being helped. After a bit they gave me news they couldn't find that one but dud have another recently in as excellent condition (nothing missing essentially new). They worked it into their system and I got an even better option than the original. This was all happening during the blizzard as well. Couldn't be happier with the service. read more

1.) Know exactly what you need when you walk in, you won't be assisted. 2.) Even if you ask for help, once assured someone will be with you, you'll continue standing around with no help while ~8-12 employees in 3-4 different groups huddle around each other have have a wonderful chat. There was genuinely about 10 cars in the parking lot when I walked in, I would suspect employees outnumbered customers, and after 10-12 minutes I still didn't get what I needed. I was an easy $450, walked in just to buy an Apple Watch, all I needed was someone to hand me one. And despite one person telling me someone would be over to help, I continued to stand around and watch all the employees do nothing. Once again, I try and shop local, and look what happens? So out to Jordan Creek I go, the land of actual customer service. read more

To get any information over the phone is not only tedious, but worthless. I was put on hold twice to find if they had bluetooth speakers. The second hold was 25 mins before they switched me to geek squad, which I did not ask for. Had to give up. Its bad enough BB has almost a monopoly, but lately they act like it. read more

We came to Best Buy to purchase a camcorder for our son. We were pleased with the price was ready to buy camcorder and accessories. The camera was locked behind a case. We were unable to locate an employee to unlock the camera. We walked to the front and asked the security guard for assistance. Don the security guard informed us they had a whole store of customers looking for assistance. We walked back to the camera area and waited. After 10 min we noticed an employee was finished helping someone in Tvs. We asked for assistance and he told us we'd have to wait there are customers in front of us. Again we walked to the front and was told there is only one floor associate working! It was 1:45 on Thursday with about 30 customers waiting. We asked if there was a manager and was told yeah in the back. During another 10 min wait we were able to do some online shopping and discovered we could get the camera and more accessories than we were planning on buying for 26.79 more. This is why retail stores are closing up. As we were leaving we asked what the managers name was as we were planning on calling corporate. We were responded with which one. I said which one is on duty today and was shockingly told well there is more than 1. Wondering if there was more than one why weren't they on the floor to assist the only associate with keys?? read more

Came here for a few movies on sale. I was able to find everything easily and it was pretty well organized. Their CD section was alphabetized so it was easy to find the artist. Staff was friendly, especially the awesome cashier. She recommended the movie we bought and said it was amazing! We had just purchased it off of reviews. Store was clean and so was the grounds. Parking lot was easy to get in and out of on the line of shops on Delaware Avenue. Overall one of the nicest Best Buy's I have been to. read more

A Best Buy is a Best Buy. The Ankeny location is one the the smaller that I've been in but one of the more friendly/helpful as well. Every time I've stopped in, they might not always have what I'm looking for but I've always been greeted by someone and have had numerous people ask me if I've needed help. I'll keep coming here and getting most of the things I'm looking for because it's nice to be in a place where you know people are willing to help you out if you need it. read more

I went into Best Buy to purchase a sound bar for my LED tv. When I initially went in I thought I had a decent knowledge base after doing some prepurchase research on the internet. While looking at the sound bars I was greeted by Lucas. Lucas walked me through all the different sound bars and answered all of my questions. I was absolutely blown away by his knowledge base. He explained everything from the intricate details of the different cords the sound bars use to showing me step by step how to set up the blu tooth function. By the end of my encounter with Lucas I realized it was a good thing I had run into him because I didn't know as much as I thought I did about sound bars. In a society where we can buy things for cheap on the internet Best Buy needs to establish a way to keep the box store relevant. By having incredibly knowledgeable employees like Lucas is one way to do that. My recommendation is if you go into the Ankeny Best Buy look for Lucas for help. read more

Best Buy... a final goodbye. I went in to this location last Friday night around 7pm. The place was near dead, maybe 10 or so customers. I had just left work and all I needed was a cassette adapter for my car to listen to some tunes with my phone. My current one had broke on my way in to work that morning, this being the only reason I wasn't purchasing from Amazon. I walked over to the audio department where they keep headphones and overpriced iPod cases. This is where the item I sought had been kept for years. Alas it's not there. After about 5 minutes of walking around with a dumb look on my face unable to find the item, I'm approached by a middle aged woman in a Best Buy uniform (which was mostly covered with a fleece). From the jingle jangle of a heavy set of keys, I can only awesome that this raven-haired lass was a manager in some capacity. She asks if I need help finding anything. I explain my purpose in the store and she points me to the back corner, the Car Audio section. Apparently then new business model for retail is to point a customer in the wrong direction and then tell them you'll be there "soon" to help them out. As I headed for the back corner of the store, she headed for the front. I will grant that she was possibly in the midst of dealing with another issue at the, but why ask if I need help only to leave me stranded in the wrong section of the store, and not send one of the other employees who where clearly not busy? I wandered the two aisles that made up their Car Audio department for 15 minutes. I was completely forgetten about and no other employee ever came to my rescue. At a loss and defeated in my search I headed to the movies section to peruse. After finding a suitable example of Hollywood's finest works, I decided to give one last chance at finding the item I originally came for. To the mobile department I went. I was completely ignored by the young gentlemen working the department as they were busily engaged with each other. Then, HAZAH! The fabled cassette adapter I was looking for! There it dangled from its hook, only mere feet from where the manager had asked if I need help some 30 minutes earlier. As I wallowed in the glory of my overpriced adapter a sudden wave of realization swept over me, this would be my last venture to Best Buy. My realtionship with Best Buy has been marred by years of nothing but disappointment and this was the final act in our story together. This being the case, I had to exit this realtionship in the same way I had come into it: alone, afraid, and with too much money to spend. I went to the Gaming section to see what accoutrements I could find to spruce up my PS4. "Shockingly" I was never approached by an employee will I was in this area either. After 20 minutes of looking at product reviews online, I selected the wireless headset that suited my purpose. I grabbed a few more things from Gaming and headed to the front to pay. What occurred next can only be seen as a metaphor for this entire event. Ignored for an hour by an entire store full of employees and with over $200 of merchandise in my hands, I found myself next in line behind an employee purchasing a bag of Chex Mix and chatting with the only cashier. Now common sense would dictate in this situation you allow the customer with his hands full to make their purchase first, clearly Best Buy hires people without any senses. In days past I may have placed down my products, told the clerk the error of his ways to explain why he lost a sale and stormed out to give Amazon my money instead, but this was a special moment for me, this was my last dance with Best Buy. When the clerks where finished exchanging stories of their triumphs selling added protection to unwitting consumers, the cashier called me forth. I placed my bundle of goods on the counter as he preceeded to go into his speel about Protection Plans. I declined all offers as you should, paid for my fare, and left. That was it, my adventure had come to an end. If it's not clear by now I will not be shopping with Best Buy again, and neither should you, Dear Reader. You will find better prices online as well as a wealth of information regarding the products, something that Best Buy employees tend to lack. And so I say goodbye to my phone purchases. Farewell to my next TV. No more movies and games. Never a replacement mouse or keyboard. Adieu Best Buy. Naught another purchase shall I make with thy! read more

They wouldn't price match my movie because the listing didn't say ultimate collectors edition, I scanned the barcode and it had the exact same SKU. The price match was only taking $3 off so I didn't see the big deal with helping me out. I won't shop at this Best Buy again. read more

Tried to buy some camera lenses, went to that department and waited for an associate to get them out of the case for me. Several sales people became available, but, just ignored me. They acted as if I was not there, after all I wasn't buying a top end TV, just $400 worth of lenses. I went to my car and ordered them on line, waited an hour, went back in and picked them up at customer service. This is not the first time. I much prefer the West Des Moines store, they're always right there to help. I know good employees are hard to find and today's work force is not top notch, but they need to up there game. read more

If I could give them a zero, I would! On Xmas eve I made a last minute purchase for a video game for Xbox. The game rang up $30 over the price marked on the shelf. The rude cashier said she could not help me and I needed to go one checkout line over to speak to a manager. The incompetent manager said I needed to go to the end of the line so he could check out everyone else to give me the adjustment, even though I was the next in line. They were totally overwhelmed by the last minute shoppers and it was showing in their rude and incompetent behavior. Three days later I decided to return the item. (unused) I was told there are no refunds and it "is what it is". Nothing is posted anywhere to indicate no refunds are allowed! No policy is posted to warn customers of allowing no returns! The staff was rude and condescending, the managers were rude and everyone was beyond incompetent. I used to enjoy shopping here but will NEVER be back. How sad for good customers to be treated so poorly. Buyers beware!! read more

Had to buy a washer and dryer. So my wife and I decided on Best Buy, (we had good luck with them in the past!) The salesperson was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly! Plus the Best Buy delivery service was very helpful, friendly and right on time! They took the time to explain everything to me, even explained the installation process! I was impressed! After reviewing laptops on the Best Buy website I made a spur of the moment decision while traveling through Iowa to pick up a none displayed HP laptop. I was close to Ankney so I stopped at that store. I anticipated the worst as this was a store pickup only item so figuring it would be confusing for the help. I had my print out of the item from the website and entered the store. I was met by a young lady named Leea who asked if i need help I showed her my printout she knew exactly where the item was located in the warehouse and returned in just minutes. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Wow what a pleasant shopping experience. I haven't written 2 reviews in my life but I really felt I needed take the time to write this one.
