It's been roughly 2 months since we've joined and can see the growth in both kids' abilities. My 4 year old is still learning to read so the workbooks are very appropriate in teaching him to recognize words and associate them to the number. My 7 year old who is also attending RSM really enjoys the 1-1 tutoring style. We originally enrolled them as both did not score well on their standardized exams. Will report back on the pre-post after. Highly recommend for parents who want to get their kids more academically focused and their kids excel with 1-1 learning.

The Poway center has such a calm, welcoming atmosphere, which has made a big difference for her. Jason, who runs the location, is incredibly kind and patient. My daughter thrives in environments where she feels comfortable and supported and that's exactly the experience she's had here. Rather than putting pressure on the kids, the instructors make learning fun and engaging. One thing my daughter especially loves is the reward system. She earns points that she can redeem for prizes which keeps her excited and motivated. Each week she's given a few homework packets and believe it or not, she's genuinely excited to do them! As a parent, I never thought I'd see my child asking to do math homework but SAM has truly made learning math enjoyable.I also really appreciate the Singapore Math approach. The lessons are logical, hands-on, and use manipulatives and visual materials to help children truly understand the concepts instead of simply memorizing procedures. It's only been a few weeks but I'm already noticing a positive difference in both her confidence and her understanding of math. I highly recommend this program to any family looking to supplement their child's math education in a fun, encouraging and effective way.

Large groups of kids (16 even in the younger grades!) crammed into tiny classrooms. I want to be…read moreclear that some of the teachers are great and working incredibly hard, but they are being given an impossible task. This curriculum is hard (by design), and kids need support. Instead, teachers are trying to do crowd control while kids are behavior problems, calling out and talking over others. Because there is an emphasis on speed and solving problems quickly, some teachers even reward these kids with "beast bucks," their prize system. If you get a less skilled teacher, students (often girls) can be left out. Admin unfortunately does not care about the issue, even though I brought it up months ago. They will simply remind you that there are no refunds. Meanwhile, girls and less aggressive students who are *talented in mathematics* can be left out. AOPS Carmel Valley needs to seriously lower their class sizes to be able to manage impulsive kids and make a concerted effort to provide space and time for quieter kids to contribute meaningfully. I am not in any way blaming the teachers -- this is not their fault. AOPS's math curriculum (Beast Academy) is fabulous and can be purchased online monthly. I recommend going this route until AOPS Carmel Valley prioritizes kids' (and their teachers') experiences over money and hiring more admin.

She came highly recommended by a family member, and although we were on a waitlist for a while, it was absolutely worth it. Over the course of about 9 months, Therese worked with my son and made an incredible difference. She was patient, knowledgeable, and truly understood how to support him in a way that built both his skills and his confidence. By the end of our time with her, he had not only improved tremendously but was reading at his grade level. I can't thank Therese enough for the impact she's had on my son's learning journey. ** FROM STRUGGLE TO HONOR ROLL THANKS TO THERESE **…read more We turned to Therese FitzRandolph after our son finished sixth grade. At the time, it was clear he was struggling with reading comprehension and test-taking. Therese met with us in person and completed a detailed assessment. For the first time, we had a clear picture of what he needed and how he learned. They met twice a week for 50-minute sessions throughout the next school year. Therese used storytelling, repetition, and verbal cues within a structured approach that gave him tools to follow a narrative, retain detail, and speak with clarity. Their final project was the recitation of a five-paragraph story. She read it aloud once. He took notes, reconstructed it in writing, and repeated the full story back to her word for word. This was not a monologue he had practiced for weeks. It was a cold read, a memory exercise, and a comprehension challenge all at once. He accomplished it through steady work and patient, consistent guidance. As the year unfolded, his confidence grew. His reading improved, and his understanding deepened across subjects. His test scores now place him above grade level. Our son earns honor roll grades, thinks through material carefully, asks questions, and speaks with insight. While many students focus on test prep and recall, he learned to engage in real analysis and deeper comprehension of the material. Therese helped our son step into his own mind. Her approach met him where he was and made space for his strengths to emerge. He enters high school with a stronger foundation, a clearer voice, and the belief that he can succeed. We are deeply grateful.

My Room to Grow - A Truly Wonderful School…read more We absolutely love My Room to Grow! Our son, Tristan, started in the Peach Room and is now in TK, and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. From the very beginning, the warmth, dedication, and experience of the teachers have been evident. Not only in how they care for the children, but in how long many of them have been with the school. That kind of consistency speaks volumes about the culture My Room to Grow has built. The teachers here are incredible. Every single one we have met has gone above and beyond to help Tristan learn, grow, and thrive. Carina and Kathy, in particular, have shown such patience, care, and creativity in supporting his development. And Principal Meghan is so thoughtful and engaged, she genuinely knows and cares about every child and family. We have seen tremendous progress in Tristan in just a year and a half, and we are so grateful for the loving environment that has helped him flourish. In fact, we chose to keep him here another year, even though he qualified for Universal TK through Poway Unified, because we simply couldn't imagine a better place for him to continue learning and growing. Our only regret is not finding My Room to Grow sooner! It's such a comfort to know that while I am at work, Tristan is in the hands of people who truly care for him and want the best for him. We feel so lucky to be part of this wonderful community. -- Update: I also wanted to share that my son is diagnosed with ADHD and is on the autism spectrum (verbal and high-functioning). While My Room to Grow isn't a special needs school, they truly go above and beyond to see if they can make accommodations to support each child's individual needs. What was especially helpful when we were considering enrolling Tristan was that they allowed him to visit the school ahead of time to make sure the environment and teachers were the right fit. The staff genuinely care and are willing to collaborate with our Behavioral and Developmental OT therapists to ensure strategies are reinforced consistently at school. I can't express enough gratitude for the compassion, patience, and dedication of every teacher at My Room to Grow. They have made such a difference in Tristan's growth and confidence.
