I went with…read moreCalloway & Sons solely based on their positive Yelp reviews as my friends really didn't have anyone to recommend. I'm not going to lie: getting this system installed in a home we were living in at the time was not a pleasure and I won't ever go through it again. We had to get the duct work done which is a horrifying mess (there's no way around it) and to Calloway & Son's credit, they did suggest we go with a split system. Live and learn. We also thought we were getting a system with zones which didn't happen and it was never fully explained why, but in these old homes with impossibly high ceilings and two levels, your bills are going to be extremely high if you have one single unit. It is what it is. I certainly don't blame them for that! But on to the most important stuff: the system is pretty good. Again, old house, not the greatest insulation and taking all that into consideration we are comfortable 80% of the year. The other 20% of times are where things are a less than awesome: this year's blizzard and any extremely cold days mean for a very hot upstairs, requiring us to run the window AC unit. And on those blistering hot summer days, there's no way we're comfortable upstairs without the window unit. Again, my house... it's ancient. It wasn't made for these types of systems. Last summer, there was a day in August when the system stopped working on a Friday. I was more than a little disappointed when I was told they couldn't give us a service visit unit until Monday. If you live here, you know it is literally unbearable to not have AC on a summer day. Luckily the very kind lady on the phone worked with us and fit us in. I also now pay for insurance that ensures priority service. I was only able to afford to get the HVAC on the owner's side of my two family house done and that was about 25K. The financing was not great... if I hadn't paid it off ASAP, it would have been almost double that. So try to pay it all upfront if possible. At least the option is there if you need it.

My vent wasn't blowing in only one room. Ricky came out and was very knowledgeable. He assessed the…read moreunit and diagnosed it very quickly. He discovered that one of the duct ties had come loose and he attached it. He explained how the tie and duct came loose and the entire process. I'm a bit more knowledgeable now! He went above and beyond!

Ever since Southern Air bought them, this company has gone completely downhill. Every visit now…read morefeels like a sales pitch -- the techs push their "shield plan" relentlessly, and when you point out that it costs more than two tuneups with their own coupons, they get an attitude. Whether they're stressed by management or all the good techs left, something has clearly changed. The real breaking point was a floater switch repair that never actually got fixed. A few months later my thermostat lost power. A tech came out, wiggled some things, and declared it working -- no real diagnosis. It happened again, and again after that. This time they "diagnosed" it and wanted $600 to replace five feet of thermostat wire, claiming there must be a short. When I pushed back on the price he produced a coupon he wasn't "supposed to give out" -- still $490. It didn't seem like a short to me, because I wiggled the wire myself and everything kept working fine. I called another company. Turned out it was the original floater switch -- still faulty. Probably a bad batch, because once it was actually replaced, I haven't had a single issue in two years. Glad I didn't waste my money on their guess.

Nick has been great, but we are having a terrible experience with these guys as a company…read more 1. Thermostat very expensive, doesn't relay correct temperature/humidity, been replaced, same result 2. AC wasn't cooling properly multiple visits. Only through insistence did we get them to assume increase fan speed to fix 3. Float switch broke and line was clogged and not tested. Pan overflowed destroying the ceiling (see image) 4. Very very bad experience
