This place is awful. I wish I had read all the reviews before purchasing from them. I ordered a guitar from Bert Murdoch Music to be shipped to Virginia, and on arrival I noticed there were a lot of quality control issues with the guitar and the case. When I reached out to initiate a return, they told me they would not help at all with the cost of return shipping, and they also told me they would not issue me a full refund since I was returning it. A DEFECTIVE item. This place doesn't stand behind what they sell, and they are incredibly rude to boot. Avoid this company at any cost. If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

We purchased the guitar from them and the high end did not work on it so we took it back. We had another one that needed new tuners So we took that one in also. They had these guitars from late March til the first of Sept and they still were not fixed. We would call to check on them and got "oh we are working on them ". We finally got fed up and just went and got them. Now we have a new guitar that doesn't work correctly and can't even get it fixed under warranty. Will not be returning to this store read more

Went in and at first from appearance I thought this place is pretty cool, but that changed quickly. While one employee was nice, the owner and a few others, couldn't care less about the customer. I'm a female professional guitar player and as soon as I picked up anything the owner was like, "the sign says to ask before playing". My bad dude. Missed your dumb sign. Also, I was wearing a jacket because I'm always cooled and glad I did as it was really cold in there, but nope.......had to take it off because my zipper might scratch his precious guitar. While, the owner was so crazy about his rules, I figured they might have a really amazing tech since the owner is such a perfectionist and I might want to check them out. Nope...doesn't have one inhouse for guitars. The owner is a guy in his 50s maybe 60s. Whatever creativity and imagination he had is gone. So much so that it drains the creativity of anyone that comes in. They may have some fun guitars, but that place isn't worth the time or money. Years ago, this place had everything it seemed. Now it's the Burger King equivalent of a music store. Let's start when you first walk through the door. temperature is more than 60 degrees in there I'd be surprised. I had to go back out and get my heavy jacket from the car and it was still chilly. I immediately asked about their professional guitars, which they used to have. I was hoping to be shown what they recommended, and compare the feel and tones of each. What I got instead was harassed every time I picked up one of their mid level guitars. "Be careful with that one it's expensive." Thanks for reminding me that the $600 guitar in my hand is what you consider expensive. I ditched that one pretty quick though due to the fact that the action wasn't even across the strings. I started playing a $500 range Epiphone, strumming the same 14th fret on the G string as it rang awkwardly from fret buzz. Their employee walks up to me, but doesn't talk to me about the guitar or mention the corrupted note. Instead, he rudely takes his hand and examines the price tag on the end of the neck, then says "Watch out for the zipper on your jacket". Here's a thought - if someone comes in asking if you have a professional level guitar, why don't you treat them like a professional (and act like one yourself). I'm never walking into this place again. It would be one thing if they simply cared about their products and were being a little over protective about how they are handled. But I know that can't be the case, because if it was they would set up the guitars they have on the shelf properly. If you're fine with mediocre, there are plenty of other music stores in town with a warmer environment, warmer employees and better inventory. read more

Good service, and great selection of guitars, ukuleles, basses, percussions, and all the rehearsal/stage equipment a startup band would need. There's also a big selection of keyboards and tons of sheet music and books. You'll find some of everything, even brass and woodwinds. I shop here regularly as a locally-owned alternative to Guitar Center. read more

The store mainly sells gear for young people and music beginners. So I took my kids in to get some band accessories on a Saturday morning. The huge store was mostly empty. And given that the few customers in there were openly and loudly trying all the instruments, I figured it would be ok for my 13 year old to try one of their beginner drum kits. I was wrong. For some reason the employee working there singled out my son and yelled at him (no exaggeration) for being too loud. Don't get me wrong, I get that it can be annoying for someone to pound obnoxiously on drums in a store. But that's not what happened here. My son was just trying the kit very lightly. And he wasn't disturbing ANYONE except for the employee that yelled at him. This is a music store for kids. But kids are not allowed - and certainly not encouraged - to try things. So if you are looking for a place that will let your kids try out instruments and explore all of the possibilities that music has to offer them, go somewhere else. We stopped by this Murdock Bert Music to buy some beginning piano music. I'd like to learn to play and my girlfriend said this store would have what we needed. When we talked in my girlfriend was really surprised by how much the store had changed. At one time this music store had several grand pianos and a stage for recitals and now all of that is gone. Their focus appears to have shifted more towards string instruments like guitars and banjos. They also carry brass instruments, some violins, drums, a few electronic keyboards and all manner of other musical instruments and accessories. But as far as pianos and piano music their selection is a lot less than my girlfriend remember it. Even still we found two really good beginning piano books and that was that. The staff at the store was friendly and I was impressed by the sheer amount of STUFF they had. I don't know much about music but Murdock Bert Music seemed like it had just about anything you could ask for. read more

I converted from GC to Burt Murdock about 5 years ago, and the biggest reason was customer service. A lot of music stores are intimidating when you are at a beginner level, Burt Murdock however was willing to take the time to answer my questions and teach me something new. They have good equipment, a friendly staff, and have only dealt with me honestly. I try to shop Burt Murdock for all my music needs. read more

I made an order online. Three months later it hadn't arrived, so I emailed and got no reply. I phoned, and they said that because they couldn't get the product I ordered and the shipping would be $25 they decided to not complete my order. I was never informed of this and was waiting in vain for three months. read more

This is definitely my go to music store around the area. I have purchased things here and it is always priced fairly but where they really have me pleased is with their guitar tech. David does incredible work and he is always honest with options you can take in the repair process. They have a lifelong customer as long I am around the area and they are! read more

Buyer beware! They are liars and thiefs here. They will do anything and say anything to get you to sign a contract. Then dodge your calls and ignore after you have signed it. If you want to throw your money away, let me know. You'd have better luck opening a blockbuster then finding quality, honest people here. read more

This place is TERRIBLE! The selection is garbage and they only carry low-mid range gear, but want too dollar for it. I called them today and they want $59 for an accessory everywhere else is only asking $35 for. They even told me to go buy it somewhere else when I asked about a price match! No customer service or appreciation or quality gear. Spend the extra time to go to GC or something and get what you really want at a fair price. read more

On a number of occasions when we have taken instruments in for repair or have been looking for accessories we've been spoken to in a rude and condescending manner. Nothing is resolved by the time we leave. My wife teaches violin; we won't be going to Bert Murdock Music anymore and recommend against it for all of her students, as well. read more

Be warned stay away from this company!!!! They will not make returns or exchanges. They are rude and even the manager followed me out of the store to my car and yelled at me. I have never been treated so poorly and still no apologies. There are many other places to buy and rent instruments at a MUCH cheaper cost. Also their sheet music is overpriced and I will buy it online from now on. The customer service is absolutely horrible. Both the stores (Murray and Orem) are full of incompetence, which I believe comes from the management. I will never go there again. read more

I got my first guitar here like two to three years ago, and it's been perfect. At first I was just looking around, and I wasn't really sure about anything cause I've never bought a guitar before. Then the guitar specialist came up and introduced himself and asked if there was anything he could do to help. I said yes, I've never been here before and I'm looking for higher quality, but still beginner level guitar. He knew exactly which guitars were in my price range and he knew everything about them. He immediately grabbed two of his favorites and had me try them out, after hooking them up to some amps. Then he left me alone to try them out, without the pressure of anyone watching. It was amazing, he knew exactly what I wanted whenever I wanted it. After I decided on a guitar he showed me the cases within my price range and other accessories, and then discounted some stuff so I could actually afford it all. He was so helpful, the guitar works just as well as it did when I got it, and the store was just so cool. Love this place. read more
