Omg I'll be dreaming of these glazed donuts for ever! We had this on our food stop while visiting MTL. It did not disappoint. I love a good glazed donut. It was warm melt in your mouth goodness. Even after a day it was still good. We came early on a Sunday no line. The rest of the fam got other flavours but all I wanted was the glaze.
I visited Bernie Beigne twice during my time in Montreal - once on my own and once as part of a food tour. I had heard this is one of the best doughnut shops in the city, so I made it my intention to check it out while exploring the area. Approaching the store, I was immediately greeted by a front window where someone was hanging freshly glazed doughnuts to dry; if that's not an invitation to go inside I don't know what is. The interior space isn't too large, there is a small open area where a line can form, with the doughnut flavors behind a glass case with the ordering counter next to it. I decided to go with their classic glazed and the Boston cream; honestly, they were both excellent. The glazed was everything you want in a yeast doughnut - fluffy with a thin layer of glaze and a good level of sweetness. The Boston cream was one of the best I've ever had - the doughnut itself was fluffy and there was a generous helping of cream in the middle without being overwhelming; as close to perfection as you can get. Service was great - the team was super friendly and did a great job keeping foot traffic flowing. Overall, Bernie Beigne was a total yes - these are some of the best doughnuts I've had in a long time and would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.
Bernie Beigne wasn't on my radar while I was in Montréal with my family, yet it ended up being one of the most memorable eats of our trip. So much so, we ended up going twice. I'd even go as far as saying the donuts here are the best I've had yet. The donuts had a great, fluffy and airy texture. Of the 8 I tried, the cotton candy was my favorite. It was the most visually appealing, and wasn't overly sweet considering it was cotton candy flavored. The Boston cream was my second favorite. It was easily the heaviest donut of the 8 because of its filling, but was the highest quality Boston cream I've had. The rest of the donuts were all worth getting, but the two mentioned above stood out the most. Below is my ranking of all the donuts I tried: 1. Barbe à Papa (Cotton Candy) 2. Crème Boston (Boston Cream) 3. Oreo 4. Caramel Salé (Salted Caramel) 5. M&M 6. Crème Sure (Sour Cream) 7. Simpsons 8. Kit-Kat Whether you're a donut connoisseur or just someone looking for something sweet to eat l, I can't recommend this enough.
Tip: The Nutella powdered sugar donut is heavenly. My friend and I tend to bring food into work. It makes the day more enjoyable. For a while, it was me. Recently, he has been bringing a lot of yummy snacks. He let me know that his family, except him, headed to Montreal over the weekend. They hit Bernie Beigne for some donuts and brought some back. His sister brought back a bunch. He took the Nutella powered sugar donut. He could have eaten the whole thing himself. Instead, he brought it to work so that we could split it and enjoy it together. So sweet! It helps that I have been generous sharing a bunch of snacks with him. It was thoughtful of him to think of me. We needed a knife. I have a feeling that our workplace doesn't trust us with a sharp object. I tend to have cutlery in my backpack. Sure enough, I had a wooden knife and I used it to saw our donut in half. Even though it was a couple of days old, this Nutella donut was awesome. I like that this bakery put a dent in the donut's centre and put as much Nutella filling as it could. It had whipped cream on top of it and chocolate chips. Frankly, it didn't need chocolate chips. I didn't mind them, though. The crunchy contrast was cool. The donut was yummy. It had a lot of powdered sugar, but it wasn't an overly sweet donut. I was sad when it was gone. I bookmarked this place a while back. It was cool to experience an amazing donut through my friend's sister's road trip. (155)
The best donut I've ever had...for real. I'm not a big donut guy, but the line outside Bernie Beigne convinced us to join. After ten minutes, we were chowing down on massive donuts. The texture of the dough combined with the flavor is out of this world. If it's your first time, get the glazed donut or the chocolate one. Staff are super friendly too!
I came to Bernie Beigne twice during my visit to Montreal because my husband and I wanted to try their behemoth size apple fritter. From another fellow yelp member's review, it was mentioned that the apple fritters are not available in the morning but are made during the afternoon and to come between 12:30 pm and 1 pm to purchase them. Well we came this past Wednesday around 3 pm and they were sadly already sold out. The employee told my husband that they are actually available for purchase at noon. So we came back the next day around 12:30 pm and there were only 2 left (I am not sure if they were making more or not). We ended up purchasing one. So over our 2 visits, we purchased: Pink Frosted Donut, $2.95 prior to tax- This donut was light and fluffy and the pink frosting was rather sweet. This was just okay for me but my husband always likes to get these donuts because it reminds him of Homer Simpson. Unglazed Original, $2 prior to tax- I don't like food items too sweet and so I always prefer to get my donuts unglazed, if possible. But it is one of those thigs that you would have to ask a small mom and pop place if they have any donuts unglazed. Luckily they had a tray full of them and the employee behind the counter had mentioned they keep them unglazed until they need to frost or glaze other donuts. My husband had asked if he could just purchase the unglazed donut for me and he said that he could. I thought this donut was light and fluffy, just like the pink frosted donut. I liked it and would probably get another unglazed donut again in the future. Apple Fritter, $3.95 prior to tax- Now this is a gigantic fritter. It was delicious and we got it served warm. There are slices of apples in the fritter, throughout. This was definitely a massive baked good and perfect to share with 3 or 4 other people. I can see why their apple fritters would sell out. I would recommend coming to Bernie Beigne for their apple fritters. ------------------------------------------- (Total= $10.23 after tax) Service was friendly both times and the wait time was very short each time we came. However, both times we had left, there was a line that started to form. There is only street parking available. We were lucky to get a parking spot right out front the first time but had to park a little further away the second. If I lived in this area, I would definitely be a regular.
The line of this place attracted me. It was freezing but people kept coming out with boxes and boxes, and I knew I had to go. What looks like a basic donut shop is definitely something much more incredible. The sweet and inviting smell inside makes you want nothing short of a dozen, and the range is absolutely incredible. I opted for the Simpsons style donut. Huge, pink frosting, sprinkles. And it was absolutely delicious. Every bite was soft and spongy and just yum. Definitely the best location with one of the best cafes in MTL facing it!
OMG!!!! These are the best doughnuts in town. We went there for the first time on Friday and we loved it so much we were back again on Saturday. The doughnuts at Bernie Beigne are as good as they look. And they look pretty freaking amazing hanging there in the front window They are perfectly light and chewy. They must be made with top notch ingredients as they don't leave any of that weird feeling in your mouth when you eat them. We've tried a bunch of different flavours and none of them disappointed. Even the cake style doughnuts were wonderful, light and not too dense. I just can't get enough of this place! But , I'm going to need to take a break, at least for a few days, to give myself the chance to burn off the calories.
Absolutely sickeningly good!! I grew up in Texas, where we are very protective of our donuts. I've lived all around and been dissapointed everywhere I went, until now! The top donut has arrived. Like biting into a cloud! As well, I simply had to try this insane apple fritter they do. I could only finish half, but that's only because I would have needed medical intervention otherwise! I am admittedly not the biggest donut fan, but my husband & son are. We met a local family who said we "HAD" to try these donuts, so we made our way over. We originally planned to get 2 donuts, then we walked in and saw the selection - and decided to get 6 donuts (why? We did not need 6 donuts - especially ones this large. But yet....). Then the super nice guy working the register gave us 2 for free because it was our first time!!! There goes my waistline because these are donuts I DO like. Some are way too sweet for me, and we unfortunately got 2 glazed instead of 1 glazed and 1 original, but even I couldn't stop taking bites. If you like donuts, it's absolutely worth the trek to get them. They're closed Mondays & Tuesdays, so plan ahead. read more
Amazing. If you like designer donuts or just donuts dripping with glaze, this place is for you. Incredibly tasty donuts from this little shop with many flavors to choose from. A true gem in Montreal. Our guide brought us by this place on a bike tour of the city and what a treat! If you have the time, it's definitely worth a stop, if for nothing else to see the dripping glaze on the donuts. FOOD: Great selection of donuts - primarily yeast. Glazed donuts with great toppings or even plain. We tried the Brownie donut, the Lemon donut, and the Maple Bacon donut. All were good. Really good. SERVICE: People here were so nice and the portions are HUGE. Easy to get to go or eat right there outside the shop. Not any place to really sit, but you don't want it dripping on you anyway. Went with a group of 5. We got a variety of donuts plus one of their mugs. These are really gourmet donuts, possibly the best donuts I've ever had. This was one of my favorite places I visited! The apple fritter was HUGE (literally as big as my face! and was served nice and warm. I also got tried several donuts and all were super yummy! It's also across a v yummy cafe so make sure to try them both out! read more

This place has some amazing donuts that are on the cheaper end of the scale. They are huge haha we could barely finish two of them. There usually is a line to order but it goes by very fast. There are no places to sit and the local is mostly for takeout but that it's okay, it has its charm read more

Soft, perfect, doughy perfection. I like to call myself a donut conisour because every place I visit I have to try their version of a donut. This spot is definitely in my top 5 of all time favorite donuts. There will always be a line (probably 20-25 people in front of us) but we only waited about 20 minutes- it went fast! When I got to the register to order i was not rushed despite the line. They waited and allowed me to ask questions about the donuts. The staff was friendly when I engaged them. This is now our favorite donut place of all time. The donut was so soft, sweet but not sugary and they did not skimp on anything. The strawberry and cream fillings were just overflowing when we opened them up! We arrived about 9:45am and we were number six. While waiting we got to watch them prepare their glazed donuts right by the window entrance. Once inside we found out that they do not make their Apple fritters until around noonish and they'd be ready for sale by 1pm. Keep that in mind if you have your heart set on the fritter. By the time we left the line extended more than half the block. Overall worth the visit and calories! read more

These photos are from last year in the summer. I tried to come here today but the store was closed! I was so sad because when I first came here in the summer of 2022 these donuts were honestly the BEST donuts I ever had from any donut shop. They were big donuts at a great price! The history behind the shop is hilarious and definitely worth a read if you ever stop by to buy one of these delicious treats! Absolute 10/10 I highly recommend this place whenever you stop by Montréal. Just make sure you don't try going there anytime from January 1st to the 3rd haha read more

Excellent donuts and great service! This place is packed at all times and they run out of their Apple fritter very fast. However everything else is equally good. You really can't go wrong. The donuts are light and airy and have just the right amount of sweet. There's no real seating so be prepared to take them to go or eat them in the fly. read more

Went there early on today to get a deozen of donuts which are not only delicious , but also really fresh and huge . Also really great customer service and they got really creative with the donuts they're making . defiitely would recommend this place read more

Delicious doughnuts! So happy to see another homemade doughnut place opened up in the area after Chez Boris closed. Bernie Beigne serves a lovely variety of doughnuts that range from classic flavours like boston cream and original glazed to some fun creations like fruit loops or smurf! a half a dozen classic doughnuts will cost $12 which is an amazing price considering the size and quality of the doughnuts. I got the boston cream, the smurf, the Simpson, the maple, the original glazed, and the Oreo. My favourites by far were the original and maple. They tasted just like Krispe Kreme but without the processed element to it. Dense and doughy, sort of like a cake like consistency if you're a fan of those kinds of doughnuts. And the glaze is perfectly light and sugary. The smurf and Simpson doughnuts are quite similar in taste, the only real difference is the colour. I'd say the Simpson is slightly sweeter and bigger since it's meant to look like the cartoon version. Both are good if you like sprinkle doughnuts. The oreo one felt a bit too ordinary for my taste since all the others stood out but it was still good! I did not try the boston cream as that one was for my boyfriend but my friend loved that one! Highly recommend checking out if you're in the neighbourhood! read more

Found this place by fluke it was on the way to where we had to go and I told the hubby to double park because I wanted to give this little place a try!!! It's such a cute little spot looks so beautiful inside As you walk in, the scent of fresh donuts hits you on your way in! Donuts everywhere this place is wild they got so many fancy flavours and variety of donuts. I went for their basic ones just the sugar donuts and boy oh boy they did NOT disappoint!! The texture was extremely fluffy and just incredibly delicious and fresh! I definitely recommend the donuts on their own without any fancy shmancy toppings... like the dough was super soft super fresh i was so surprised with this new found gem!! I also went with their apple Fritter it's humongous!! Like it's the size of 6 donuts filled my entire box haha it was good but I'm not an apple fritter person it was just what I had to get to say I got it lolol Customer service: really nice and quick got served by a nice girl at the counter she was super sweet and friendly! Throughout my life, I've always held my jaw in high esteem. Last week, I have come to the understanding that jaw insecurity is a real issue and that the world outside is truly a grand place. It cost me $3 to hoist this apple fritter with two hands, unsteady from the lack of exercise during the pandemic whereupon I thrust my confident mouth on a corner of the fresh and delicious treat. I leaned back, shocked at how good the donut was but also at the insignificance of my impact on the beigne's land mass. What I thought was a crater was but a fleeting pebble missing from the plateau. My partner observed my distress and was very supportive and consoled me, saying that we would finish together. The regular glazed donut was also very tasty. Can't wait to come back next year. read more

Completely delicious. We were walking to Jean Talon after waiting in the St Viateur bagel line (yes... touristy things), and we ran into this place. With their ridiculously drool-worthy window display, you can't walk by without going in. The donuts are so light and fluffy, fresh, fragrant, and all around delectable. They also make a darn good French crueller. I particularly loved the plain glazed and sugar donuts. They also have fun flavors, too. Prices are incredibly reasonable and I highly recommend. read more

Been wanting to try out Bernie Beigne donuts since they opened and finally got to try them and they were amazing! We ended up getting 12 donuts plus a bonus one for the car ride which was the cinnamon sugar donut and it was so light, soft & pillowy! All of the donuts were fresh and so good! My favorites were the double chocolate donut and the apple fritter! I also loved how all of the donuts had just the right amount of sweetness. Didn't get any of the donuts with cereal on them because I'm not a fan of cereal donuts, but if you're into that, go for it! This box of 12 donuts were finished in 1 day and we were only 2 people! Bernie Beigne is now my favorite donut place, I'm hoping to go back there when they have the coconut donut because I have a craving for coconut, and obviously will be getting a dozen! Best time is to go in the morning, they often sell out! I'm glad I don't live anywhere close to Bernie Beigne, I have a feeling I would be eating a donut every morning! So happy I came across this little donut shop! Probably one of the best donuts in town!!! They have a variety of donuts to choose from at a very good price.
