I have been going to Bernard's for about a year now after some horrible dye jobs from other salons left me with copper hair. I LOVE Alicia and she always does an amazing job. Alicia makes sure we talk about the color I am picking and how it will look in the long term. After picking out the color, there is a great sitting area in the back while you wait with magazines and phone chargers. The shampoo and conditioner treatment always feel great and then it is on to the trim! Alicia does a great job keeping my part and making sure that my hair looks perfect. I went to Bernard's a few days ago and had my hair cut and colored. My hair was in serious need of getting cut because of the damage I've done to it over the years. I saw Jamie and I literally couldn't have dreamed a better stylist. She was kind and attentive and made sure to ask if I was okay with everything that she was doing. So, full disclosure, I've been to Bernard's a couple times when I was in college but the last time I've gone was a little over 2 years ago. With that being said, I went back again today. My all time fave part of getting my hair done here is when they wash & massage your hair. Ugh if I could, i 100% would fall asleep! Most of the time, I forget who did my hair especially since I don't get a haircut too often so I didn't ask for anyone special but who I got today was AMAZING. Got my haircut here for the first time ever and it was amazing. I showed Anthony a photo of the short hair I wanted and explained what I wanted to see adjusted, and he turned it into something like 57265 times better than I had imagined. He really knew how to work with short hair in a way that's funky enough for me without making me feel like I'm grasping at my early twenties. If I could give it negative stars I would. DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR COLORED HERE. I had the absolute worst experience with Monique who destroyed my brown hair. I went there in the summer asking for a balayage with a lighter color expecting it to be blended and look even. I cannot believe what she had done to my hair. Essentially she just bleached it in random spots, it was chunky and so uneven. I do not know how she is allowed to color peoples hair after doing this to mine. I then went back and thankfully got a refund a few days after and the owner tried to get it back to brown. Being the summer and how light it had been, it quickly turned to an awful brassy color. While I appreciated them attempting to fix it, my hair 7 months later is still healing. Worst experience ever. Do not go here. Worst salon I've EVER been to. read more

Customer Service? - Not really Quality? - Found better elsewhere. Customer Service: I came to the salon twice. Once for myself and once to pick up a gift-card. Each time I was greeted, I was greeted with no enthusiasm. I did not feel welcomed and as if they cared that I walked in the door. The girls at the front looked bored and annoyed to assist me. I only went back a second time for a gift-card, obviously not for me. Atmosphere: I waited in their waiting area. The atmosphere told me that I was not in the right place. The attitudes and personalities (as if they are better than me) were eminent. (All I came for was a massage! ---- and it was my first visit). The decor and layout of the salon is very nice and very modern. It has great curb appeal as well. Finally I was called by my masseuse and she, again, was not excited to provide me any service. Although a smile may have appeared once..... Massage: Boring. Aweful. Where is the detail? Anyone could use their flat hands and massage. I wanted attention to detail, such as my neck? Are you using your fingers because I can't tell. It was the biggest waste of money I ever spent on a massage. (I now go to Ageless Skin Solutions to see Karen for my massage who cares about my needs). I've been here a few years ago and was unimpressed, my stylist Carrie (red head) severely screwed my hair up when she bleached it off :(, BUT recently my long time friend and stylist Kristen started working here and I have returned. So yesterday I went to Bernard's Salon of Marlton and I had an image in my mind of how I wanted my hair. I wanted expresso brown hair with red ombré. 15 mins into my appt, I texted A friend that I didn't think my hair stylist knew what she was doing. I should have gone with my gut instinct. *note... I found out that this person was/is the manager of 5 years at the salon and has been styling for 27 years. She completely bleached my hair, dyed my roots dark brown but colored everything but my roots a pinkish color. When she was blow drying my hair I was in shear panic that my hair looked horrible. I told her I needed the color darker so she went over the "whatever color it was" to make it more red. 4.5 hrs later, I left and my hair was still very purple/pinkish/red... yes!!! She told me I could come back if it was to drastic for work but I was so overwhelmed that I didn't go back. All I knew was that I just spent $300 with tip, on a mess. So let's fast forward to what I know now. I'm currently at the salon my mom goes to. #1 it's confirmed that what this girl did, was NOT ombré at all!!! #2 it was not red! It was in a range of red I guess but it was more purple/pink. #3 as the new hair stylist is looking at my hair, the other girl left chunks of blonde underneath the first layer of my hair. NOT OK! Yes, in the end, it's only hair. It's going to be fixed. Money is money... and I really didn't have money to throw down the drain like this but it can be fixed. It is currently being fixed. Just absolutely appalled of the experience I had. I work in fashion. I work at a higher end store where I can't show my tattoos and I can't just have my hair any color. She was completely aware of this and still did what she wanted. I will never go there again! read more

WORST SALON EXPERIENCE EVER Ok so first off, do not believe their prices. For new clients it is not 50% off cut and color. I called over the phone and told them I was a student and a new client and asked if I could get the 50% off deal for students for cut and color and they said yes and they put me on a tuesday. The reception promised the same deal both days. Well, I scheduled for a full highlight and haircut and Eric said he wanted to do a partial highlight instead and it ended up being $242. he said at the end he only did 50% off the haircut... Eric screwed up my hair color so bad and overcharged me for everything. I don't think they actually took off 50% either. I came back to get it fixed and they continued to defend him meanwhile you can see the color looked splotchy, stripey and uneven. And red at my root! If you want decent coloring done don't go here because it seems none of them know how to do it. I asked for a root shadow and this is what i got. The owner went back in and highlighted it but had no idea how to do a shadow root so she said she didn't want to do it LOL. So naturally my roots still have a ton of highlight lines, random warm spots, random icier spots and I'm a lot more of a solid blonde than the dimensional blonde i wanted. Also, Eric spent about 10 minutes on my haircut and the length was uneven. I've never had to come back in to get my hair fixed before but i spent a ridiculous amount of money for hair cuttery type services. I should've gotten a refund or at least whatever the 50% off would of been but instead she just kept saying "well this is all i can do." so now i have stripey uneven highlights and a random dark spot in the front. I have had some above average haircuts and the color has even been just as acceptable, however, it is getting too expensive and it doesn't really cater to its clients. When I used to go there, they have a very small coffee pot and tiny foam cups and only have 5 or 6 sweet n low packs and 5 or 6 sugar packs and maybe 3 or 4 tiny creamers. Most of the time I am told the coffee has been sitting around or is empty and no one offers to make a fresh pot. They need to brush up on making it a little warmer and welcoming. They could also use a slight makeover in their decor. I don't get my hair or color or even nails done here anymore. read more

I started coming to Bernard's Marlton to my colorist/stylist Gabby a few years ago after first moving to the area. Going through a difficult divorce had me not really wanting to do much for myself. And honestly- trying to find a good colorist and stylist- let alone a GREAT one wasn't the first thing on my list. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of meeting her and she has changed my life! I get compliments everyday on how BEAUTIFUL my hair is and questions about who does it. I also visit her at the Cherry Hill location- which helps when coming from work. So much easier. Her keratins are the best I've ever had. She makes it so my hair still has body and life! I can't tell you enough about how much I appreciate her hard work and just wanted to show some love! I had two groupons for this Spa, one for myself and one for my mom. The quality and service was HORRIBLE and appalling! My mom was seen on time, but I had to wait, get this....45 minutes to be seen! With no explanation other than the person who was going to see me was "running behind with another client" so I had to sit there, wait and just grin and bear it. Once I was seen, I received the worst facial I've ever had in my LIFE and she only did my facial for 40 minutes, not an hour. Then I was asked to leave the room in my tiny robe to sit and wait for my masseuse in the hallway, whom I waited for over 10 mins, then I decided to wonder around to see what was going on, and found her in the room, on her phone, either texting or facebooking (who knows) but she look startled that I caught her, but said nothing. I just kept on walking and waited until she came out and said "oh, are you ready?". really? I've been ready for over 10 minutes! The massage was also horrible. My masseuse asked about troubled areas and I told her about my upper back and butt, but she absolutely ignored massaging my butt and only rubbed on my back, I had to tell her several times to do it harder since all she was doing was rubbing lotion on my skin, not massaging my muscles. Very disappointing. My motherâs massage and facial was no better, they lady simultaneously gave her a facial and a sloppy massage, switching in between applying masks and rubbing her arms and shoulders. She didnât even massage her legs! It makes me wonder if the sloppy service is because they know we were using groupons and therefore deserve a lesser quality of service. Since we had already paid and there was nothing we could do about it. Such a dreadful experience. I will NEVER go to Bernard's Salon and Spa, even with a coupon since there is NO DEAL that is worth terrible service and poor quality. read more

Never saw myself going to a high end salon for a men's cut, but I'm so glad I decided to venture outside my comfort zone. The difference between my old main street barber shop and Bernard's Salon is the stylists understand what you want and do not just give you the same men's cut they give every other guy that walks in the door. Kristen is my stylist and should be yours. She takes the time to understand what you want and then works with you to create your own style. Worst unprofessional spa I have ever schedule at. I was given a 7 pm appointment and I was about 2-5 minutes away from the sap when I was told that my message was cancel because my therapist went home. This was my very first time there-- did not request any particular therapist so any therapist could have done my message. They claimed they call my cell to cancel me but lied because they never call . By the way this was my birthday gift because it was B-day. They ruined my pampered day for my Birthday. For the price I have not been impressed. I too had an experience where the colorist chit chatted the entire time to another stylist (and myself and another client). She was getting lost in her story and wasn't paying any attention to my highlight. It took her well over an hour to foil my head and I was not impressed with the color. For the price, I want consistency and a nice cut/color every time. I will not go back even though they are very close to my house and have great hours. For the prices, I would expect better consistency. The first time I went here, I loved my haircut. It was back when Rihanna had the Posh Spice longer type of do, and it was great. The stylist (I don't want to give names) did an amazing job, and I got so many compliments. Then I went back to have that style trimmed, so that it grew out without making me look like a freak from Star Trek. Well, the entire time, the stylist was chatting with her assistant and not really paying attention to what I wanted. She just said, I know what you want. Meanwhile, I specifically said, I wanted no layers, b/c I'm so over the Jennifer Aniston flippy layer thing. I had that haircut like 10 years ago. Well, I walked out of there, with 2 distinct layers, and the flippy ends like J.Aniston 10 years ago!!! I didn't even bother to go back to have it fixed b/c I was too nervous I would end up with a bob. Anyway, I won't go back. It's such a shame b/c I loved my first cut. Maybe the stylist just had a bad day that day, but for the price, I don't want to take that chance. I'd rather go to a place that is always good, especially when all I wanted was a trim. I hate layers, and I specifically said that I hated that. That botched haircut cost me over $200, b/c I ended up going to NYC to Roy Teeluck to have it fixed, and I lost a lot of length bc of it. A chunk of my hair was completely taken off about 3 inches of it in the middle of my hair. As well as so many unblended layers I never asked for. Only thing I asked for was an inch off and thinning out at the bottom so it wasn't so thick after the cut. THEY CHARGE FOR SERVICES YOU DID NOT AUTHORIZE. I had a balayage and cut scheduled for 50% off because that was their promotion for new customers. I double-checked when I arrived that this was what they had down for what I was to get done, and that it would be at 50% off for each individual service. They said yes, it was. CHRISTY, the manager of this location, colored and cut my hair. She asked me while highlighting it if I had ever had anything like this done to my hair before (balayage), and I said no, nothing, not even highlights. When I went to pay, she stood over the receptionist while whispering something in her ear. When the receptionist gave me the total price, I asked if it included the 50% discount. She said no, then corrected it. While I was paying, I asked her for an itemized billing because this was a gift from someone and I wanted to tell her how much each of the services cost. This is when I found out they charged me for a glaze that I did not ask for. I told the receptionist that I was confused because I did not ask for a glaze, nor did I even realize I had had it done. Christy, who was sitting there, responded with "Well you needed it." I told her I was upset because she never asked me for permission to do it, and she responded with "I hear ya." I paid, but when I went home, I called one of the higher-ups, Terri, who ended up not returning my numerous phone calls for four days. When I finally spoke to her, she said she understood why I was upset, that Christy should have asked me before giving me a glaze, and that after she spoke to Christy, she would call me back. Two weeks later, I did not hear from her. I then called four more times, only to have her leave 1 voicemail from a blocked number on my phone and tell me she would call me back, which she never did. Also, they charged me 100% for the glaze, not 50%. THEY ARE DISHONEST AND SNEAKY. How many other customers have paid for services they did not authorize? Christy knew I had never had this done before and took advantage of it, and I would have never known I had had it done NOR that I was being charged for it had I not asked for an itemized bill. The upper-management did not do their job, either, and I am majorly disappointed that no one has ever resolved this issue for me. Also, the balayage looks like highlights, not a true balayage. What a GREAT day I had at Bernards. I had a mani/pedi, my manicurist was wonderful. We spoke of our kids, husbands, etc. She made me feel so comphy. When my services were over, my manicurist offered me a complimentary blow out w/ Kim. I was great. I would like to say that I just returned to Bernards for a second time where Kim gave me a great haircut and Amy gave me a mani/pedi and also to my surprise, Amy also did a spray tan for me. Never going here again. I have been a loyal customer for 5-6 years and have NEVER experienced what happened last time I went to get my hair done. I decided to try a new stylist since my favorite one moved and I haven't been able to find one I definitely liked here since then. I showed the girl a picture and said do whatever you have to do to make it as close to this as possible, just do not make it dark (which the picture wasn't). Service (with haircut) was $130 with student discount, so a $260 service without the discount...you would expect it to be pretty good then, right? No, after getting in my car and seeing how it looked not under a ton of bright salon lights, I called back and said I wanted to come back. It was dark ashy brown with a white blonde piece in the front that made me look like a skunk. The staff was so rude when I came back in and the hair dresser even called over other stylists to tell me that my hair looked "just like the picture". She lightened it but it ended up looking like it did before I ever got it done. I spoke with the manager a week later who was very nice and offered for me to come in for a redo. New stylist just put a few highlights in so that I didn't kill my hair. But get this...they wouldn't even blow it out. They stuck me under a dryer and sent me out with poofy un-done hair just because it was a "redo" I guess? Manager was very kind and accommodating but what kind of salon doesn't even blow out hair...especially when the customer is coming back because they were extremely unhappy with their service the first time? Strict policy not fully disclosed and poor quality massages! I had a positive experience at the cherry hill location getting my nails done so I decided to try out their massage services for my husband and I. The marlton location had openings on my desired day and I assumed it would be the same. My first warning was when they wanted my credit card to book the appointment and said if I canceled I could only get store credit. The directions they gave got us lost and when we called for clarity 10min behind our appt they said they could not guarantee our appt but would 'do their best'. We got there 20 min late and they welcomed us into the room (no changing area, water, tea) and informed us our appt would end on time and we would have to pay full price. I felt like a hostage! What's worse is that my massage was no better than a decent lotion job and the room was not very relaxing. I have had massages all over the place and never had such a terrible customer service experience. They had the nerve to say we should come back for a full hour! I would have been happier if they had the manager available for me to discuss the situation with! Don't worry, their policy may ensure payment for every booked appt but I will never return either location for services. What they got was two hours pmt but they lost the potential for good long term clients! There are much better places for massages in nj and if you're looking for a discount the massage schools are probably better than what we got there! I left more stressed than when I came! I would have to say it was the worse experience I've ever had. The salon it said was nice, but that was about it. I had a massage and my massage therapist wasn't mean, but she just wasn't friendly at all. They didn't give me any paperwork to fill out which I thought was weird b/c they are suppose to do that. The room was cold, the music was down pretty low so all you could hear was the noise from right outside. The massage therapist can't always help the noise, but she didn't make me feel comfortable at all. When she was around my neck area she kept pulling my hair, she went really fast on each part of me, and when she got to my back her pressure was ok, but she didn't do a good job She didn't ask if I was warm enough and the only time she asked about my pressure was when she flipped me over. I got there pretty early and she cut my time about 15 minutes. I should of spoken up, but I didn't wanna complain about it. There was no reason why I got cut...I was on time and she didn't have anyone after me. I couldn't even enjoy myself b/c the whole time I was thinking about how it was so awkward. I didn't want to complain b/c I'm a massage therapist too, but that's all I could think about. When I got up I saw the time and it made me so angry, and to top it off there was all of this oil on the floor when I got up. It's like she was having a bad day and took it out on me.
