My wife and I both come here when we need to get a solid professional massage. Staff is friendly and I'm always amazed at how much better I feel when I leave. Once you've had your back walked on as part of the massage, you realize that there's no other way to get that type of pressure in such small areas like a different form of Shiatsu Massage. Linda has been our go too cuz she seems to care about your experience and somehow she knows just where the problem spots are, and is great at working on the rights areas till the tightness goes away. So worth it. The spa is pretty clean, but I always think things could be a bit better. Still worth it though. read more

I called at 5:20PM and was able to book a time at 5:30PM. I also arrived a few minutes late. so they are flexible and willing to accommodate. I paid the $40 (great rate for a 30 minute massage). However, their flexibility and price may come from a lack of business, and I have a few guesses about why. The massage was mediocre. My masseuse used railings along the ceiling to step on me and apply pressure. She did ask and I did say yes, and it felt good to start. There was a lack of care and a few rough steps on soft spots that I would have forgiven. She then had me turn over, and I refused an inappropriate gesture. It was disrespectful. The massage continued and declined in quality even further, after I refused her suggestion. Afterwards, she brought me some water. It was in one of those paper mouthwash cups. Basically a shot of water. I got dressed and went up to pay a tip of $15, because I believe everyone deserves something. She looked at me in disbelief and asked, "Fifteen? Not five-zero?" Her coworker lounged on the couch nearby, and suggested that I had said $50. I said again clearly that I intended to tip $15, one-five. It was not a language barrier, as she understood and responded to me well during the massage. She was trying to pressure me into tipping more. It was rude, and she implied that I was too poor to get a massage. I haven't encountered a massage service like this one in a long time, and I know which one to avoid in the area. Thanks for clearing it up for me. Pretty dim experience all-around. read more

Made an online appointment in advance and when we showed up, we were met with an empty lobby, someone showed up 15 minutes later, didn't have our appointment scheduled, the front desk lady was so incredibly awkward and i think she called someone to come in and kept asking us how we booked and how we were paying. It was really uncomfortable so we left. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience at Bernardo Message Center. From the moment I arrived, everything was clean, peaceful, and professionally run. The front desk was welcoming and made me feel comfortable right away. The massage itself was incredible. My therapist Amy was not only highly skilled but also intuitive--knowing exactly where I held tension and adjusting the pressure perfectly. I left feeling completely relaxed and refreshed, like a new person. If you're looking for a high-quality massage that's both therapeutic and relaxing, this is the place. I'll definitely be returning soon. read more

I've had a bad back for 20 years and require a skilled therapist that can give the firm pressure needed to keep my back functional. This is definitely my "go to" spots in the area when my back is out. Professional and because they have several skilled therapists the schedule is mostly accommodating when I'm hurting after a round of golf. The place is clean and the owners are always welcoming. read more

The massage felt so good I ended up falling asleep. The women are amazing and welcoming. And the price is very reasonable.

Had a great massage, was a little sore from my workout and they really helped me leave there feeling relaxed. Definitely recommend!

My husband and I were vacationing in San Diego and, after a long day of walking around, we were feeling pretty tired. We happened to pass by this massage place and decided to give it a try. The massage therapist was very professional, understood my needs, and used just the right amount of pressure. It was such a relaxing experience that left me feeling refreshed. A big thank you for making our day end on such a positive note! read more

Very solid Massage Asian ladies know what they're doing. I would definitely go back and recommend.

I agree with the last post and I never tip less than 20% But please tell me what justifies blocking the door for their tips before u get to walk out? When I already tipped over 20%... and asking for more? And won't let me leave unless I give more? read more

All the comments I've read on this place were accurately aligned with my experience. I read up on it prior to going there, so I knew what to expect & wasn't terribly disappointed. You pay up front, they charge a $2 fee for credit card use, the lady left the room numerous times during my massage & definitely was uninterested in doing a good job, the linen and towels were of questionable sanitation, I tipped even though service wasn't deserving & yes, she complained about my tip and tried to pressure me to give more. I simply said "No, do a better job next time." read more

Don't come here! Worst massage ever. The gal Ana doesn't seem to have had any training on this and was absolutely terrible in every way. I can't even begin to explain the entire massage was torture and to have to pay for this was even worst!! Seriously, there are many Asian Massage places that do a superb job. I recently moved to the area and thought I would give them a try. The gals walk around with a bitter face and are clearly miserable. I always recognize them with a generous tip for their hard work when I visit these places, but this was not even a 1 Star! They should really be out of business, I regret not reading the reviews first before booking my appointment. Lesson learned! read more

I wish I could do 0 stars the stupid lady charged me $40 which I was fine with then says where's my tip before she even started like wtf the bitch wanted 3x more for tip than the actual massage absolutely absurd do not even come here have this shitty business close down read more

Quite frankly, this was the worst massage I've encountered in the San Diego area. I happened to walk by this place the night before as I was having sushi with friends nearby at RB sushi. I came in today and asked for a 1 hour massage. I paid up front - which appears to be common here, and I have no problem with that. The "masseuse" started and about 15 minutes in says she wants to cut the massage short to 30 minutes, since a very important customer was coming in. The rest of the massage, she kept leaving the room, and had clearly lost interest in giving me a decent massage. Before the 30 minutes were done, she said it was time. I walled up front and she said "change for my tip!" - I replied no, because I was NOT happy having my massage cut short. She was rude and refused to give me my change. I got my phone out and then she ran back to get me my change and almost threw it at me. Terrible experience... read more

My friend and I had just run a half marathon and decided to get massages. We had a coupon for this place and thought we'd give it a try. From the time we walked in, the receptionist was awkward and rude. My masseuse didn't speak any English which made it nearly impossible to communicate what I wanted, and I feel like she missed about half of my pressure points. I actually left in more discomfort than when I walked in. The room was less than peaceful - the bed creaked, there was periodic thudding on the roof, and I could hear the entire conversation in the room next to mine. When we were getting ready to leave, my friend and I sat in the lobby and our masseuses were obviously talking about us with the receptionist, looking and pointing at us. We tipped them and got ready to leave and they were obviously unhappy with the tip (15%). Do yourself a favor: pay a little extra and go somewhere else. read more

How could I forget to write a review about this place! My fiance bought my sister and I massages here before his deployment. BMC had just opened so we figured it had to be good. Not so much. Purchasing the giftcards was sooo difficult. No one in the facility spoke English and the giftcards ended up being their business card with "1 hour massage." During the actual appointment the week later, my hour started with a foot bath which was so-so. Afterwards the massage began and everything seemed to just go downhill. The masseuse talked a good amount, had no blankets for coverage, straddles you through half the session and I could hear my friends conversation in the next room. At least the appointment was somewhat entertaining as the masseuse next door was asking my friend how much he weighed and proceeded to say he was a "tall asian." Hahah. Oh man. So... goodbye BMC, let's see how long you will last. For those in the area, check out ZenSpa on Carmel Mountain as it's the best so far I've been to! read more

This place should get shut down! I've never felt so violated in my life! Besides having to pay upfront, I was taken into a dingy and smelly room. There was only a small towel for coverage or lack thereof. I was straddled and touched "too close" for my own comfort. Really? Was she thinking she's going to turn me on or something? I don't think she knew what she was doing. She just lathered oil on me. No kneading, no thumbs pressing to relieve the knots. Nada. I should have pushed her off, demanded a refund and left! Never again will I come here. The board or police should shut this place down as well as other foot massage places. These ppl are not trained masseuses and don't conduct business professionally. Do you ever wonder why all these places have dark windows and "dirty??" I tried several places and I'm done! I'm sticking with Pala Spa from now on. read more

Just awful. I walk in to speak with the one girl who kind if knew English. Paid up front, which was different, but fine. $2.00 charge for using a credit card instead of paying with cash. I got a 60 min massage with 30 min foot rub. I was escorted to room to which lady said "enjoy" and walked away. I sit there and another woman comes in and gas me disk my feet for 5 min. Comes back and takes my feet out and leaves. After another few minutes she comes back and "charades" for me to undress (as she speaks little English). I do so and get under the tiniest , thinnest sheet ever. Doesn't cover table, yet alone me. For next hour she straddles me and gives me a massage. Didn't ask pressure or areas of concern... Afterwards , as I was walking up to front to give my tip. Two ladies chase and yell at me to give tip.... So no, would never come back. Place was creepy, don't get 100% of what you paid for and just unprofessional all around read more

My husband and I went in for a couples massage and I did not have a very pleasant experience. We walked in and felt like we were in a doctors office. First of all they made us pay before the services were rendered (I found that to be very odd considering I have never had to pay for anything before receiving any service). Once we walked back into the room, we noticed that the place smelled like cigarette smoke and the room wasn't very clean. When the massage started the masseuse straddled me and started pressing on my back. When she started the massage she started by rubbing my back with massage oil and that was basically what my massage was, a oil rubdown of my back, arms and legs. The whole time during the "massage" the two women giving us the massages were talking and laughing. How can a person relax when there is constant talking? I left so extremely disappointed! I have gotten massages at several different places from different therapists and have even tried different Asian style massage places and this was by far my worst experience. I left feeling worse than what I was feeling before I arrived. I feel like my 4 year old can give a better massage. I will never return to this place ever again! I really wish that I would have read the reviews for this place before going in for our massage. read more

What a horrible experience, I left there even more stressed than when I came in. The room was dark and dirty, the sheets smelled damp. I prepaid for an hour massage, which ended up being 50 min. I was OK with that since I wanted to get out of there in the first place (the reason I came was my neck was so sore I was looking for any relief). I should have read the previous Yelp reviews first! Anyway, on the way out I gave her a tip, 15% at that, since the massage was not horrible, just the ambiance. Anyway, on my way out the masseuse grabbed the front desk woman and started almost yelling, in which the front desk women basically accosted me at the door and said they "expected" a larger tip! I was flabbergasted, almost violated, like they were ganging up on me to pay more. Never before have I been treated that way, and never again. DO NOT go here, it is horrible, Ai spa in Poway is much better and more professional. read more

No starts. Very bad business model. Extra charge for using credit card, ( but they won't charge extra for tipping on card at the end?) bad quality linens and towels. ( I should have noticed when I walked in and saw dirty water fish tank in the waiting room ) if the service/ massage was good, I would leave a better review and tips but massage was more like just rubbing my body with a little bit of pressure even I was asked for the soft, medium or hard pressure and I asked for the hard one) Being charged for the massage first without knowing how much you want to leave tips for the service in the card is not a great idea either and then, they want you to pay 25%+ on the bad massage and service. When I came out form my room, the girl ( I assume that was my masseuse? )was chewing on the gum with feet on the table said with broken English "Was it good massage right? Leave more tips" demanding for more $$ with a front person. So many other massage places around here, don't need to deal with this.... It was supposed to be very relaxing day for my day off but totally ruined by these ladies. Will not go back. I doubt this place will last long....sad even it's in a good location with decent restaurants around. read more

So in a nutshell, they only got 1.5 stars for the strength of the massage only. They are rude to start. No friendly welcome when you enter. And they do block the door to get their tip. We are from Fresno and nearly ALL the asian parlors there do the pay after model. This allows you to tip accordingly. The time for a 30 minutes massage must start when you drive in the parking lot. Because the massage was 20 minutes. The intensity was good. But the negative attitude in the place carries thru the service. I am amazed they are in business. Go to Fresno. They are nice and good. They really are not worth the effort. read more

This place is not nearly as bad as people are saying! I had a 60 minute massage, paid cash up front. It was not that bad! Good pressure.... It was about a 7-8 out of 10 compared to all of the massages I have had. The woman was very nice. I tipped $20 and she was fine with it.... not sure why everyone else has had such a bad experience..... weird.... read more

Nearly ALL Asian Massage Parlors ask for the house fee BEFORE the massage and charge $2 for using a cc. While there are many business models, most Asian massage parlors split the cost 50/50. Some do keep 100% which means the masseuse works for 100% tips. In either of the above 2 business models, the girls rely on tips. So now, think about this: At the average massage parlor the girl will work 12 or more hours/day and 6 days/wk. She will have 3-6 customers/day. She does cleaning, laundry, etc. And when she gives you a massage, you are her ONLY customer (unlike servers at restaurants who have several. If the average table turns $60 and if the server receives 15% tip, that is $45 in tips/hr for 5 tables) --- do you really think a masseuse should only receive $7/hr? Don't you think she works just as hard, or more than a server? She only gets paid when she has a customer. Again, the average masseuse will see 5 customers/day. If house fee is $40/hr and she receives 50% ($20) plus a puny $5-7 tip she would only earn $135 (or less) in a 12-hour day! Of course, the amount that you give her as a tip is totally your decision. But, the next time you receive a good-to-excellent massage I hope you will consider giving a larger tip. For what it's worth, I've been getting massages regularly for almost 10 years. My tips range between $10/hr (for a fair massage) to $40/hr (for very good/excellent). read more

OMG!!! I just got punked $5!!! I came into Bernardo Massage tonight at 8:30pm for a 90 minute massage. The lady worked on me didn't wanna do 90 mins but she did it anyways. When I first saw her, she looked so freakin pissed because she has to do 90 mins. Shockingly, it ended up good!!! As I put my clothes back on, the "lady" (I don't think she's really a masseuse) peaked in as i was counting my cash for her tip. She stepped into the room and put out her hand to take the money before I even offered it to her. I tipped her $20... which I thought was reasonable since my bill was $60. That's 33% tip. Apparently, she didn't think it was enough. After she counted the money, she said "that's it?" I was so shocked but then I felt bad too.... so whatever's, I gave her another $5!!!! ANHHHH..... this time she said "you don't have anymore?" WTF!!!!@! LOL!!! Right?!?? I After that I just walked off! Wow!! I tried this place once before and got a 60 min massage because she didn't want to do 90 mins. And this was with a different lady. I think they just don't want business. The massage was ok, it wasn't terrible. They open the latest in my area.. that's the only reason I go to them. I'd rather go to a place where at least they act like they care. This place... they're just gunning for your money. Straight up! I wouldn't be surprise if these two girls can take on an older man, bring him in and give him a special treatment or massage Overall, the massages were ok. I don't know how they obtained a masseuse license because they just do whatever way they want. They don't have a general guideline on what they do. These chicas are crazy though!! Some days they take u in when they want to work The days they don't want to work, they turn u away. read more

Unfortunately, I decided to try this place even after I saw the bad reviews. I thought, I have an hour to kill while my son is in a class, I can try them. I've done Chinese reflexology places, and know what to expect--I just needed a massage, no frills. I knew to bring cash. The massage was ok, the lady was nice. BUT what happened afterwards is why I give them 1 star. I gave her a customary 15% tip while she was in the room with me, but then she stood there pretending to be surprised and then proceeded to tell me that she only gets x amount from her boss, etc. I give her an extra dollar because she asked and I feel bad for her, and tell her it's over 15% but she still seemed quite upset. I left. I won't be back. All the knots from the massage came back after this.. sigh. Stay Away! To the owners of Bernardo Massage: pay your workers more or tell them what to expect in a tip! No one is going to give a 30%-50% tip! Your workers are chasing away your customers by asking for a bigger tip! I'm sure you'd get more business if they did not have to mention the tip. read more

I wish I could write two reviews. Ambience and customer service would get a negative star. Paid by credit card and they charged me the 2 dollars mentioned on here, never heard of this except a gas station or under a certain amount. The place smelled and I did hear hammering on the roof the whole massage. No head rest on the table? The massage was good but not in a traditional way. Lots of massage without oil with the sheet. If you are modest good luck, she tore my underwear down and massaged my butt. I dug for cash and she said I could put on my credit card so I did put the same amount 7 dollars on a 35 dollar massage and got the evil eye and the you know they are talking about you in another language. Odd experience but pretty good massage. read more

Wish I didn't have to give any stars! You should go here if you don't mind them coming in early and seeing you naked, if you love dilapidated decor, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you enjoy being guilted about the tip you're leaving. I was giving over 20% of their prices, and with her haphazard massage style and bad energy, she certainly didn't deserve 20% of market value! She confronted me head on about it. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Never going back!!!! But going to talk to management and see if they care (I suspect not). read more

This place is terrible. All the terrible things people said in the other reviews are all true. Don't go here. Unfortunately my wife went here without my knowledge and without checking yelp first. I am sure this place will be out of business soon. I would give it a negative five star rating if I could. read more

Even though the coupons make it an enticing deal, do NOT go to this place! It was the worst and most stressful massage experience. 1) The massage rooms were dirty - very visibly dirty. The room I was in had large stains on the walls - YUCK. 2) It lacks the peaceful ambience of a spa. Sheets were threadbare and although it might be normal for others, the bars on the ceiling gave me the creeps. 3) Therapist demanded over a 30 percent tip, which not only is frustrating (aren't you supposed to be able to determine your own tip??), it ends up making this place cost just as much as any other place, but without the amenities or service 4) They charge $2 to use your credit card , but don't tell you this when booking appointment - once again not making it a good deal. 5) Poor customer service - they weren't able to communicate clearly, except about the tipping. read more
