I never spend my time writing reviews, but for this I just had to take the time and give credit where it's due. Once you visit, your fear of the dentist will be gone! I've never met such a nice group of people. The Denist was definitely an expert. He fixed the pain and saved my tooth. The assistant Rosie, made me feel so comfortable, as did the dentist, checking often that I was okay during the procedure. Knowing my comfort was their concern right off the bat was relieving, and I felt so relaxed the whole time. Let's not forget, The sweetest coordinator at the front desk who scheduled my appointment was sooo nice on the phone even after I rescheduled twice! She worked with me to find the right day and time and was very flexible with finding a spot for me even with my busy schedule. SO NICE! Let me tell you 2 personal stories about Dr. Hong and you'll get a better idea of who he is. 1. A lot of dentists (especially the younger ones but I find almost all do this) push for unnecessary treatment. It's so obnoxiously obvious how mercenary the industry has become. For example, I had used a Groupon once to get a cleaning and the dentist had said my teeth and gums were horrible. He wanted to do laser cleaning, a root canal, and 2 crowns on 2 molars that "could split any day now". They really try to scare the bejeezus out of you. The bill was going to be thousands of dollars. Dr. Hong took a look. I thought what he said was funny. He said that in a court of law, the other dentist wouldn't be wrong but in reality, the stuff was clearly unnecessary. I guess that's the purpose of a $20 Groupon? 2. Another incident. Dr. Hong is far from where I live. So, a few times, I had gone somewhere local for the sake of convenience. (Sorry, Dr. Hong.) 2 different dentists actually remarked that the work that Dr. Hong did was solid work. One actually criticized work done by different dentist done a long time ago but he complimented Dr. Hong's - said it was impressive because given the position of the teeth, it was really difficult and he would have just taken it out. For other dentists to endorse your work, that really means something in my book. Just to warn you, he's a little old school so, don't expect any fancy procedures. And his assistant who handles his calls speaks broken English but don't worry - Dr. Hong is perfectly fluent in English. You can also ask him about anything and he's totally fine with it. Most importantly, you don't have to worry that Dr. Hong will try to do unnecessary work. I literally trust him 100% that he'll do what's right. He's truly a good person.

The geniuses at Tavormina Dentistry, that's who! I had an appointment the day before my birthday this year and as I was getting out of the chair to leave I see the entire staff walking towards me with candles in a cake singing me happy birthday!! That is just one of many examples of this office going above and beyond to make sure you feel recognized and appreciated as their patient, which comes through in everything they do! Even more importantly, Dr. Tavormina's work is impeccable. In my experience, impeccable dentistry is usually accompanied by an exceptional ego and poor people skills, but Dr. Vincent Tavormina really breaks the mold here. When I saw Dr Jack Share in Boston today I was reminded of my experience with Alan DeMaso. Initially Alan shared the office with his father Paul DeMaso, but a few years ago Paul retired and Alan hired a hygienist. He had always done my cleanings and continued to do so because we were longtime patients. The administrative end of the office is run by his wife Ann, who is also excellent. They live in the same building and were always great about responding to emergencies (squeezing me in almost immediately, or referring me to other dentists if after hours). Alan is extremely competent and takes the time to get to know all of his patients and address their concerns. There was always a TV with headphones, movies and video games in the exam room and waiting room. He works well with children, mostly through his outgoing and entertaining personality. Because of Alan DeMaso, going to the dentist was never stressful or painful for me. The worst part was that I didn't get to go more often! I never had a single cavity until I went two years without a cleaning (which was after I had left NYC and kept trying to schedule a dentist visit on my trip back, because I didn't want to go anywhere else). Several members of family had more serious dental work done by Alan, and it was always top-notch. If I ever move back to NYC, I would make the trip to Staten Island without hesitation to see Alan DeMaso.

He explains everything he does such as checking for oral cancer or showing you the xrays and explaining if there is a problem. He discusses all the latest methods and materials used in dentistry and even the things that have improved since he began his practice. He is always careful not to hurt you and puts you at ease explaining each step as he fills a cavity or any other procedure.. I have ALWAYS had a pleasant experience. He has excellent hygienists but always pokes his head in to greet you at some point in your cleaning. His lovely wife Ann is his office manager and she is conscientious and efficient. On a few occasions Alan was running a few minutes late and she called to let me know to arrive a half hour later showing that she valued my time. 99 percent of the time they are prompt and there is no waiting.. I highly recommended Dr De Maso for his expertise but also for the painless experience as well the always pleasant way in which you are treated.
