    One of everything

I've heard great things about Berlu for a long time and finally got the chance to drop by myself. Their space is off Belmont. Parking can be tricky. I like the interior, it is bright white with pops of orange. I got "one of everything" of their baked goods which they make easy to do. (They also have savory meals.) It was $40.75. I shared with three others - some items are easier to divide than others. We enjoyed each item. Highlights were the pandan banh, pineapple cake, and canelé. Some in our group don't love coconut so the mango roll and egg tart were not quite as beloved, but nothing wrong with them. That leaves the crème brûlée and pandan waffle as "middle of the pack." But again, all were tasty. They're unique flavors and textures - not something we'd order all the time but really great to try!

The pandan bread had strong pandan flavor and the white sauce that goes with it was cry good. I think they should give more sauce

Man I'm getting punished for not taking a picture of the menu because the desserts were great! Yes if you grew up on Banh Bo Nuong (honeycomb cake) then you'll be disappointed because it doesn't hit like that, so I won't comment on this for people who never had it. But everything else was so interesting. The mango dessert with sago hidden under the fruit brûlée mochi was so unique. I also enjoyed the cardamom creme brûlée tart since the passion fruit really brightens up the whole dessert, while keeping that unique cardamom combination. Had I known the menu changes I would have taken a picture. My wife was a big fan on the drinks, especially the roasted peanut milk drink (I believe there's espresso shots and sesame foam). The pistachio drink was interesting but not sure I would order that again. Even if some things were not my favorite, I appreciate the creativity and sharing various types of Vietnamese food outside the most commonly known ones. I'll be back and will also try the savory items!

Berlu Bakery is an authentic Vietnamese bakeshop spearheaded by a James Beard award-winning chef. This spot is located in the Belmont area where street parking will be your go to. Inside, they have a modern and minimalistic setup with a good amount of seating. Wifey and I ended up getting a couple of their pastries to try, including the star of the show, the Banh Bo Nuong. Everything that we had tasted amazing and all of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. You can tell they really put a lot of craft and intention into the products they put out. Berlu Bakery is Viet gang approved!

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to try out Berlu Bakery! The store front is bright and has a lot of seating so that you can enjoy your treats. We ordered at the front - a salted egg tart, pear and pandan roll cake, and the pandan bánh bò nướng. The roll cake was my favorite. The delicate flavor of the pandan complemented the pear well and the cake itself wasn't too sweet. The honeycomb cake was super unique - coconut milk flavor forward and a bit salty. The salted egg tart was also a treat! The Vietnamese iced coffee here wasn't my thing. The menu says it's is sweetened with condensed milk but the flavor tastes like coconut milk and slightly sour. Overall, I would visit again to try the rest of the pastries. It's a great space for meet up with friends so I'll be sure to do that too :)

A very belated review of one of my favorite bakeries in town. I was so sad when they shuttered their doors in 2024 and then thrilled when they reopened in 2025! I love all of their pastries and others have written about them at length so I won't bore you. The tldr is that they're generally chewy but with a mixture of textures, lots of use of tropical se Asian flavors like lychee, coconut, pandan, etc. I know they're known for their pastries but I really appreciate their savory menu items like their ban xeo (which I think is no longer on the menu) and their avo toast. Want to come back for their bowl of noodle soup. The interior is a really fresh white with pops of bold color and spacious with multiple seating options. I love bringing out of town guests here because the menu is so unique and well executed!

Bun Berlu with pork belly meatballs

We came here for lunch. You order at the counter and they bring out your drinks and hot items. There's self-serve water, utensils, to-go containers, but they will bus for you. The Bun Berlu has a nice clean, tart and peppery profile and comes with a generous amount of their house-made meatballs. The sablefish balls were a little softer than the pork belly, and I think I slightly preferred them, but both are good. My favorite baked goods were the pandan tapioca cake, which comes with a separate salted cream, and the salted egg/coconut tart. Tip is included in pricing.

I'd been putting off trying Berlu for a while; nervous I wouldn't be able to fully appreciate the non-traditional take on some of my favorite Vietnamese desserts and súps. After stalking their Instagram longer than I'd like to admit, I finally sent my husband on a solo mission: one of everything, the bún Berlu, and the kẹo mè xửng huế latte (inspired by one of my all-time favorite Vietnamese candies, how could I say no?). Everything was delicious. I love traditional Vietnamese food deeply, but what Berlu does - centering high-quality ingredients and letting them speak - just works. The súp tasted like something made with care in your family's home kitchen, the kind of dish you genuinely cannot find anywhere else. The balance of flavors, salty to sour, the soft-yet-chewy meatballs dragged through chili sauce... I inhaled the entire bowl without coming up for air. The desserts? I genuinely cannot pick a favorite. Each one earned its place. If I had to find one small bone to pick, it would be that I prefer my coconut milk with a slightly saltier finish, but that's purely personal preference, not a real complaint. The latte was outstanding. The coffee itself was high quality, and the peanut candy flavor came through clearly - present without being cloying. Exactly what it promised to be. As I slurped the last of the broth from my bowl, I told my family we'd be back. Next time with my Vietnamese mother in tow. She'll be the real judge ;)

    Vegan bún chǎ

Finally got to try this place through the night market menu. I wasn't sure what to expect because I grew up eating bun cha and I was so pleasantly surprised by their take on it! The meat and noodles were cooked and seasoned perfectly, the fresh lettuce shreds added a wonderful textural component, and the broth/dressing was savory with bright zest to it! This is the perfect bún chǎ for summertime. It is also hard to find good vegan versions of Vietnamese dishes, and my partner who is vegan really enjoyed his vegan bún chǎ. I also loved it! We also shared the xoài xanh và ót and really enjoyed that as well. The chuói nép nuóng was phenomenal. I was so excited to finally try this place and was so impressed that I came back the next morning to try their pastries. We got the cardamom cake w/ crème brûlée, ube cherry tart, and the strawberry roll. I loved every one of them and cannot choose a favorite. I grew up eating traditional Vietnamese food but I absolutely love love love the creativity and high-quality ingredients of this place! I feel that Berlu is one of those special places that is able to merge creativity and tradition very well. I just came here and am already looking forward to the next time I visit (probably tomorrow lol.)

Like some other reviewers said, I really wanted to like this place but I unfortunately did not enjoy the desserts we got. I've been wanting to try Berlu for a few years, since they were at their old location, so I was excited to try their honeycomb cake! We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. We were on the way to grab food but as we passed by, we figured let's do desserts first! Would have tried their savory foods but we didn't want to be too full for lunch. After trying the desserts, probably won't be back for the food. Seating area is cute and the bathroom is clean. We tried 3 desserts: Honeycomb cake with coconut sauce - 2/5. The cake was cold, a little dry and felt kinda old/stale, not very bouncy. The coconut sauce seemed fine for the first second but then this very unpleasant stinky taste came through. Can't put my finger on it but it just tasted off, like it went bad. It turned a meh disappointing dessert into a bad one. Salted egg yolk tart - 3.5/5 nothing special or much taste to it? I love salted egg yolk and was expecting more of the salty flavor you'd expect from it and didn't get that. This didn't taste like much and didn't have any exciting texture elements to it either. Cardamom passionfruit crème brûlée tart- 4.5/5. If you come here for one dessert, I'd say to ge this one! The passionfruit was nice and bright, the cardamom cake had no cardamom taste but had a nice chewy texture. Coconut creme brûlée top was fun too and it was freshly torched (waited a couple minutes for it) so it had a little crunch! We liked the combinations of textures of this one. The cardamom cake could have had more flavor but overall was very enjoyable!

Got to try this spot this past weekend. The service was relatively quick, I didn't get to try their savory foods or drinks, but I got to try a handful of their sweets. I got to try their chocolate bahn Bo and pandan bahn Bo, enjoyed both of them. The bahn Bo reminds me of a Chinese dessert called bai tang gao, it was like a less sweet version. Still enjoyed it, I just wasn't a huge fan of the coconut sauce that came with the pandan one as the dip was salty. Also got to try their pandan cake roll with pear in it, the pear added a nice refreshing touch to the dessert. My dad tried the safran cake and he enjoyed it. Overall I found it really neat that this place is both gluten free and dairy free as well. The interior of the place is nice and clean!

Their banh bo nuong is incredible! I had never had it before and it is so unique, the texture is exquisite. Really cool and special place. Also the breakfast sandwich uses the banh bo nuong bread and is amazing!

We had another great visit to Berlu Bakery. We stopped in for one-of-everything, a bowl of noodles and the avocado toast. The service was friendly and we would have tipped but they are sustainably priced so their staff don't have to work for tips. Even better. The space was bright, clean and comfortable. The noodles were delicious and warming on a cool, rainy day. We enjoyed the pastries later with guests. I love that they are gluten and dairy free so I can share with my friends who have dietary restrictions. I don't do caffeine and their toasted coconut water was a delicious decaf drink option.

I wasn't even sure I was at the right place, thought they were still transitioning from one location to another. Until someone who shared the kitchen popped out. I was told that I should order online and come by for pick up, and was strongly urged to do so because these cheesecakes were really good. When I saw that they were doing a contactless store front, I knew I had to go. This was my opportunity to try it. I texted the owner to ask if the flavor I had my eye on was available. I was halfway there before the owner responded that they had one slice of pandan cheesecake left. There are multiple forms of payment with a card reader, and various apps to pay with online which made this a breeze. The owner Kiana, even popped to introduce herself which I thought was so nice! The flavors here aren't your typical strawberry, chocolate, peanut butter cheesecakes, even though she does offer some variation of them. There's pandan, ube, lemongrass, ginger mango, passionfruit, matcha, guava, pineapple raspberry, and I heard she even cooks up something with the pickle brine from the other business that operates in that kitchen. I thought this would be one of those situations where the food won't look like the picture. The pictures are obviously styled, they look stunning. Nope! The food looked just like what was on Instagram. I am a long time lover of cheesecake, dare I say it's my favorite of the cakes. The condensed milk ube mirror glaze was a lot thicker than I thought it would be and held its form. It wasn't runny and goopy. Loved that it wasn't a sticky mess. The crust was very very thick, I've always wanted more crust on other cheesecakes. On the description, it says it's "jasmine scented almond shortbread cookie crust" slightly saltier than most crusts I've had, but still very enjoyable. I've only had the traditional graham cracker crust and I'm afraid this almond shortbread crust has ruined all other cheesecake crusts for me. I have been disappointed at a lot of places using pandan, because the flavor just wasn't there, not Muse cheesecakes though. Pandan was present indeed. I would have loved if it was a little stronger, but I think that would have overpowered the cheesecake. Each component of the cheesecake are so different and complex on its own. They come together in delicious harmony to make this beautiful slice. I grew up with a lot of Vietnamese food and pandan has a very special place in my stomach.. heart! I've never seen jasmine used outside of tea and condensed milk outside of Vietnamese iced coffee. Kiana definitely has a way with these ingredients and she's a cheesecake goddess! I really can't wait to try the calamansi, Ube, and whatever else is getting cooked up in this delicious kitchen.

My heart. I have returned so many times and buying extra slices (possibly buying out her supply for the week...) to share with my family and friends, who have all raved about the cheesecake from here. Durian isn't her only flavor though. She has so many creative flavors and I've noticed she's had comfort flavors from different cultures. To top it off, the owner, Kiana, is a wonderful lady. She is a one woman team and is kicking butt at her game from what I've gathered in the short time I've known her. She could be dead tired, but always has a smile on her face. I almost forgot to rave about her TARO BURGER on a vegan bun. I don't know how frequently she makes them, but if you see it being offered, do yourself a favor and get it. The portion is quite large so be prepared for leftovers. Unfortunately for me, my carnivorous sister gobbled the other portion of my burger right up and didn't even miss her meat. It comes with a vegan mac salad on the side. I am not one to enjoy mac salads usually, I think it's due to the mayo (not a mayo fan), but I actually liked this version. I forgot to take a picture of the burger before it all got inhaled. Sad face.
