Very dissatisfied with this hotel. Only one elevator operating and no evidence of trying to fix the other elevator. Water in our room was dark brown and the hotel never responded to our requests for an explanation. Seems like a lack of leadership or caring about their guests. read more

My sister and nephew and I are just heading back from what should have been three quick days in Amish Country after only TWO days because we just had arguably one of the WORST hotel experiences of our lives. We booked for the first time at a hotel called The Berlin Encore, which is a newish hotel that boasts an Amish Theater and what-not as their attractions, but basically, we stayed there because it's in the heart of the Antique Malls, and there's putt-putt golf and a pool for my nephew. We should have known when we walked into our suite to an industrial fan drying whatever had happened on the carpet before we had even arrived that things were going to go downhill from there. But we were still wearing our rose-colored glasses at that point. As you might expect, things got worse. I dared to use the restroom. Maybe it's just me, but when I go the the bathroom, I prefer to end the experience with some toilet paper. But no. First call down to the front desk was for one roll of one-ply sandpaper, *ahem,* toilet paper. I'll be writing all day if I go through a point by point of all the things we discovered the longer we were in the room, so I'll just give you the highlights: dirty bowls in our "full kitchen," filthy STANDING DIRT in our jacuzzi tub, two bath towels and two hand towels for three people, noise disturbances from paper thin walls walls and a hoard of Dothraki children stampeding above us, attitude from the front desk associates, and more. And maybe it's just us, but we prefer to have housekeeping and clean sheets and towels every day in a hotel that we're paying for. But not at the Berlin Encore. Apparently, we must make our own beds and reuse our two towels for the entire trip. Even after we specifically asked for housekeeping. And here's the thing: we're willing to pay. And TIP. My sister and I have both worked in customer service, and we are willing to compensate and tip appropriately when our expectations are met and exceeded. This was not one of those experiences. After two days of putting up with sub-standard rooms, bad attitudes, people who cannot seem to under what "clean sheets" mean, and more, I decided to call the manager this morning. After our day was destroyed from 9 am on with calls and inflexibility from the manager, who claimed that the "industry standard" was no housekeeping unless you plan to stay four or more days, (even though I asked if we could get housekeeping when I made the reservation originally), his final solution was he would permit us to leave tonight and not charge us for the night we would not be staying. WHAT? How is that a solution??? Oh yeah, and this was AFTER there was a mixup with our original reservation on their part ANYWAY to begin with! It was nuts. I highly recommend that if any of you are heading to Amish Country, avoid the Berlin Encore like the plague. Because it's filthy and you might get some sort of a plague there, anyway. But oh, if you do...they'll let you go home and not assume any culpability for giving it to you. You're welcome. read more

So we attended a wedding here last weekend. We never heard of the place or chain and had no idea that it was a whole complex, including hotel. Had my hubby known, we would have stayed the night. But since we only knew 2 other attendees and 3 in the wedding party - I am personally glad we did not stay. Nothing against the hotel - it just wasn't where I wanted to be on Sunday morning. So we arrived and had a little trouble finding where to go. We finally decided to try the hotel - and bam - that's where the hall was. We found the 2 attendees we knew right away and chatted with them. I was rather concerned as while the hotel asked for social distancing and masks and the staff all wore masks - hardly any of the attendees or other people at the hotel did. This whole experience was a disaster. My husband is not as conservative or concerned as me - however, he respected my preference to stay away from others and not hug or shake hands. When it was time to be seated for the ceremony, we were on one side of the ballroom. We sat in the back and had a nice buffer from others. The ceremony took 5 minutes total - BAM. When it was time to file out - again - we waited until everyone else was out and then went into the hallway where the cocktail hour was and found a spot towards the hotel where there not many people. About 15 minutes early, we were able to be seated from the dinner - on the other half of the ballroom. Salads were already plated at each seat. And we were lucky enough not to have to sit with the others we knew at a full table seated with 8. Instead, we found a table at the back by the CUPCAKE TABLE with only 1 other couple seated. We sat opposite of them and had 2 empty seats between us on both ends. Perfect. The salad was nice. And when no one else sat with us I helped myself to another one as the other lady across from me did the same. I was glad I did as when the meal came (after the blessing), there was a piece of pork, some kind of potatoes (gave to hubby) and brussel sprouts. YUM! The pork was different with an orange sauce. Where there was sauce, it was pretty good. But without the sauce, those spots were dry. Eventually we were invited to try to cupcakes. YAY! I normally just eat frosting. And the frosting on the 3 different types of cupcakes was excellent. The 4th was a brownie and the frosting AND brownie was beyond delicious!!!!!! The wedding starting the dancing part and when they called everyone to gather around the dance floor (To promote spread of the disease???) we left. Parking was good - access was good. Location was good, all things considered. Hotel seems nice and new. Definitely a good spot to hold a wedding and reception - just not in a pandemic - not without any precautions as this party was. read more

I booked our room one week prior to our trip. It was a girls trip to Amish Country. What a beautiful hotel. Our room was super clean. The girls I went with are very big clean freaks and they were very satisfied with the room. The staff was very friendly. The beds were comfortable and had a cushy comforter and good pillows. The bed was on the hard side but I still slept well. Breakfast was good. They had biscuits and gravy, real eggs, potatoes, yummy breads and pastries, waffles, fruit, and meats. Plus there was plenty of seating in a beautiful atrium area. We will be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay. read more

This place has rave reviews on other sites. They say what a clean and beautiful place it is and how wonderful their experiences were. Let me tell you about ours. We booked a weekend here for our anniversary weekend. We love Amish country and wanted a nice getaway. The hotel is nice. Pretty lobby. Modern feel. It's in a VERY populated area though. Not at all a "country" experience, despite the attached Amish Theater. My bf booked the King Jacuzzi Suite. It was HUGE. Two rooms, kitchen, fridge. Seemed nice. Then upon closer inspection, I realized that there was a nice layer of dust on everything in the room. The jets and drains in the jacuzzi were orange stained (we bleached it all before we used it and it came out beautifully). The water in this room also looked brown. I thought someone had used the toilet, so I flushed it. It filled back up with brown tinged water. I took pics of all of this right after we checked into the room. Glad I did because otherwise, it would look like I was leaving a bad review just because of the extra fees demanded by the hotel. We had a decent stay after I cleaned the room. After we left, the Hotel Director (or something) called us and said we were being charged extra for smoking in the room. My bf called back and said that there is a mistake because we definitely didn't smoke in that hotel. The guy said he wasn't even AT the hotel but that a manager and another employee verified the Smoke smell. My bf explained that we had candles lit in there and did blow them out right as we were leaving (and leaving the room cleaner than it was when we got there). This guy says "candles do leave a smoke smell" but then he explains that we can either negotiate a fee or they will just charge us $250. My bf again told him that we didn't need to negotiate because we know we didn't smoke in that room. They wound up "Agreeing" on a $100 fee because otherwise, they were charging us whatever they wanted. Also very conveniently, the candle is actually IN the pics I took of the room. Wife and I visited Berlin, Ohio for a Covid-19 getaway trip. Stayed in Berlin Encore again and the place still looks as nice and new as it did last year. It also looked very clean. The A/C unit in the room vibrated when the unit came on. We had it set for cooling since it was warm in the room. It turned out that the two re-usable filters were laden with dust. I do not think they had been cleaned since the place opened. Without filters the unit was quiet. Reported problem to the desk twice. I informed them that I had removed the filters. They would not enter the rooms during guest stays, so I hope they cleaned them for the next guests. Food was very good, but no waffles ( I do not remember the Governor banning waffles).
