My husband reserved this place online. We checked in on Easter Sunday so we were literally the only guest here. This hotel is beautiful. There is an indoor pool and jacuzzi. There's a computer you can use. There's games you can use. There's couches upstairs and downstairs. There was a laundry center you could use for free you just have to bring your own detergent. The rooms were beyond amazing. The rooms were very big there was a little kitchen area. There was a microwave, a refrigerator, and a table where you can eat. There was a little couch . The rooms were really big and spacious. The beds were very comfortable and the showers had good shampoos. The breakfast was delicious they had real breakfast food. We literally felt like we were home. I will definitely be returning. read more

My husband & I stayed from Friday to Monday for a crafting weekend. First the negative: the walls are thin & we could hear every word from the neighboring room. Also, breakfast is until 10:00 am but when they run out of certain foods at 9:30 am, you're out of luck. Now the positive: the breakfast homemade cinnamon rolls are wonderful! Our room was spacious & had a lovely balcony. The hotel is within walking distance of many good restaurants & shopping. The outdoor fire pits were cozy during the cool nights. I sat in the hot tub & it was nice. The fireplace just off the lobby was warm & inviting. I would stay here again. read more

What a great place to stay. We have stayed in Amish country a bunch of times over the years and this hotel is by fat the nicest and most conveniently located. It is very clean and spacious. The outdoor setup is amazing! The pool is very nice (but a little too cold) but there is a great hot tub to warm up in. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Next time I plan to get a room with a balcony to have a place to hang out when the kids go to sleep lol. Stay here... you won't be disappointed. read more

Beware the bed bugs. We've stayed at the Berlin Grande Hotel 4-5 times on business trips with our employees over the last couple of years, generally renting at least 2-3 rooms each time. I typically like the hotel for its convenience, cleanliness, friendliness and the quality of its facility. This last week was our last time staying, however. One of my employees woke up in a room on the fourth floor with multiple bites all over her. Her sleep had been restless as a result of being bitten throughout the night. After breakfast, we notified the front desk and asked for her to be moved to a different room the following night. We left for the day to attend to our business. When we returned, I was very surprised to learn that she had not been moved nor had any decision been made to move her. The manager was busy fixing an air conditioner, and I was asked whether I'd like to discuss it with him. We were tired, so I wasn't interested in waiting around but insisted that the front desk find her a different room right then, and asked for the manager to speak to me before leaving for the day. Our own AC unit wasn't hadn't been working so well, so when we got up to our room I called for a fan. When the fan was delivered I was told that the manager was available to see me. I got dressed again and went downstairs, only to be told that he had left for the day. More firmly, I asked for a telephone call. The manager, Doug, did call me about an hour later. I told him what had happened. He reported that he had "tore the room apart" looking for bugs, and that he was highly trained to find them, and in essence, that there were no bugs. I can appreciate that, but don't know how to reconcile it with the bug bites that our employee had suffered. Doug was more defensive than empathetic, but he was professional and polite and asked what I wanted. I told him I wanted that single night, for that room, refunded. He told me that was a LOT. (It was about $200, the price for each of the three suites we had booked for three days. So my total bill was about $1800, to put it in perspective.). Doug said he would think about it and let me know in the morning, which is irritating because then I have to think about it too rather than let it go. Anyway, at checkout the next morning, Doug offered to split the difference with me, and I thanked him for taking less than $100 off our bill. But I don't believe that is even close to adequate, and it is not the satisfaction I asked for. There are other good options for accommodations nearby, including a decent hotel in Wooster, where you can also enjoy a glass of wine. When my vendors ask me why I'm staying in Wooster next time, and the times after that, I'll be telling them about my experience. I hope there are no bugs for the next guests in that room. But if you're going to risk it with the Berlin Grande, try to avoid the fourth floor suites. read more

My family and I stayed one night at the Berlin Grande Hotel during a quick furniture shopping trip to Amish Country. The hotel was impeccably clean. The breakfast spread was very nice and the homemade cinnamon rolls were delicious! The hotel is conveniently located near shops downtown. We were there on a Thursday night, so not sure if it's busier at other times, but the parking lot was very spacious and we felt like we had plenty of room to park our truck. The outdoor spaces were very well maintained and we enjoyed sitting around the fire pit at the pavilion in the evening. 10/10 I would highly recommend this hotel! read more

This is our first time staying here, after years of staying in Sugarcreek at the Carlisle Inn. I have to say, we are impressed. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a modern trendy facility, but friendly staff willing to make your stay pleasant. One of the items that attracted us to this facility was the fact it is located within walking distance of Berlin and all of the shops. Your literally in the heart of it all and able to walk and enjoy the surroundings. There is a very nice pool and hot tub which will keep the kids happy, along with a nice hot tub to soak in after a day of walking. The pool is on the smaller side, but the kids won't care and it makes it easier to keep an eye on them. The included breakfast is fantastic - and more than anyone needs. I found the cinnamon rolls, out of this world! I saw on another review that it was the same breakfast each day. That was not the case with our visit, they had different items the second day, and it too was excellent. The facilities are exceptionally clean and well kept. I think anyone staying here will have an enjoyable family time. The only thing you might notice is that the walls are thinner than most (I assume). You can hear some noise from other folks, but just turn the ac/heater up for white noise and you will be fine. They offer free wifi, but it appeared to be up and down during our visit. When it was up, it was average at best. So, you will be on 4G and needing to charge to stay connected. The rooms have a small fridge you can put some of your cheeses you bought in, but I'd also recommend bringing a cooler for the trip home as well. I'm not sure I'd consider staying anywhere else if you want to be within walking distance of downtown Berlin and the shops. Overall, our family was very pleased and will most definitely consider staying here again on our yearly visits to the area. Enjoy your stay! read more

We are presently staying at the Hotel and using the Star room for the weekend. There is an issue with the Hotel's internet with not being able to log in. We have went to the front desk several times for help and was told there is nothing wrong with it. Now there are over 25 people in the room and all of us are not able to connect. We ask for the manager and was told he wasn't here. Then all of a sudden he shows up and when we were telling him about the problem he turns around and as he walks away he says there is nothing wrong. To me this is very poor customer service. Would never recommend this place if this is how management takes care of their guest. read more

This was our first stay. We had a wonderful time as our room was immaculate, the included breakfast was amazing and they have a beautiful shady patio to enjoy mornings and evenings. The staff was very kind and competent. Beds are comfortable and many rooms had a little private porch. The breakfast was hot. It changes a little from day to day but always included eggs, hot meat, cereals, yogurt, juices, fruits and locally made sweet rolls! Extremely disappointed that the majority of people staying there did not feel the need to wear face masks as required by law. The hotel is nice but there are better, comparatively priced, options in the area. It is done in a slight art deco manner. It is clean and the staff is courteous. In general my stay wasn't horrible but is wasn't that pleasant either. It is a good alternate if other hotels are filled. They have free coffee/ tea throughout the day and free cookies at check in. My group of six people decided to have a game night in the breakfast area and the staff was very helpful in providing styrofoam plates and plastic utensils for treats we brought. The regular rooms are typical for the price class with the addition of a small area that has a bar sink, small counter and two bar stools. That is unique, but kind of odd unless you are planning a Mad Men style cocktail party. Lighting in the room could be improved. The large florescent lights over the headboard were not conducive to reading without disturbing others. Even the light over the one sitting chair casts a wide range of illumination. The view is poor. Other hotels in the area have much better views of the Amish country. The rooms have small balconies with a bistro table and chairs, but there was not any visual incentive to sit out there. They have a complementary breakfast. It is the basic pre-packaged, microwaved version you get at places like LaQuinta. Maybe slightly better. However, they blast Fox news in the eating area (which is connected to the only lounge areas). So if you don't enjoy being yelled at by the television first thing in the morning you are stuck going outside to view the parking lot or staying in your room for breakfast. There is no safe in the room, and they have no secure place at the desk to hold a laptop or other valuables. They list a security box at the front desk in their literature, but is must be small. When I inquired about a place to store my laptop they said they could only put it behind the desk. I got stuck dragging it around with me all day. They only have one luggage cart available for guests. The others were being used by their food prep to store boxes and transport food. I arrived with 5 elderly women, some of whom are disabled, and we had to wait in the lobby 20 minutes for another guest to finish with the only cart available. They have a very small gym. The water dispenser is not kept filled so you need to bring your own water. The elliptical is small and cheap so you are down to a treadmill and recumbent bike. There are some free weights but not adequate space to use them. They are just there for show. They have a a small pool. It is heated, but the breaker apparently trips on occasion. You'll want to check the temperature a few hours before you swim to see if it is heated. If it is not heated, tell the staff and they will flip the breaker. Otherwise it is uncomfortably cold. There is a whirlpool, but I didn't use it. Altogether it is a relatively nice place if you just use it to sleep. Beyond that, they have some work to do. read more

we went into a room and i found a dirty toilet that had not been cleaned. i complained. the toilet was cleaned by me ------the customer. we were given a free night as compensation. the next time we went and tried to book the same room they wanted to charge us double. the desk staff giving us a lot of double speak speaking over the tp of each other. my husband walked out. this was a year ago. when my husband tried to book a room today- june 16, 2018, we were told we are not wanted. i will never recommend this hotel to anyone! read more

This hotel exceeded all of our expectations! I was finished with check in and headed to our room within about 90 seconds. The rooms are HUGE! Double the size of standard hotel rooms. Absolutely beautiful decor. A very nice pool hot tub and some of the friendliest hotel staff that I have ever dealt with. We got a great deal in the off season for less than $120 for the night which is a steal considering all of the wonderful amenities including an extensive hot breakfast in the morning! We will visit here on our next trip to Amish country! read more

I brought my mother up for a Mother's Day trip and things were okay until breakfast. We came down at 9:50am. And the woman, Laurie, looks at us and says that we can have all the cold food we want but she is not making anything. I understand that it was 10m till the end of breakfast, but that was not only horribly rude but also means that you do not serve breakfast until 10am. After I went towards the front desk, she started telling other hotel stayers that she doesn't care who we tell, they won't do "nothing".  Another hotel guest, that was appalled, came up and told the receptionist as well. When I went to the front desk, the woman did not have a name tag and refused to give me her name when I asked  she also stated that there's nothing she can do - I just have to message the manager on a week day. What a horrible way to be treated on a get away. I am very disappointed and I would like to think that you care more about your establishment and guests than how we were treated. read more

We were so disappointed in our stay to celebrate our anniversary. Wish I would've read all the comments to save ourselves from spending $300 to get very little sleep & we would know in advance the staff was so rude! The walls are super thin so every conversation can be heard. The people upstairs moved the furniture all around & they kept dropping things over and over. No one would answer the phones so my husband went down to the front desk. Heather was rude & said it's only a couple in there. AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER & hearing what sounded like someone was getting getting body slammed. I called the front desk & again Heather was rude. A lady came to our rooms and said we were making it up. I asked her to please stay in our room to hear them. I told her that I was was taping the noise & her saying it wasn't true. We told management the next day & not surprisingly, they didn't care at all. when I explained to the lady that said she was a manager, interruptEd me & said I will go get the manager. Doug the Manager said "What do you want us to do about it?" We were exhausted from no rest & we will never go back even if it was free! if you want to rest- DON'T pick this hotel! She just called me to tell me my room rate that I booked has increased by $59.00 a night! She gave me the yaba daba do as why. She would'nt honor what I booked last week. We stayed here on Friday August 7, 2015 and it was lovely! The rooms are pretty and the misty view in the morning was so nice. We just loved it. We stayed on the 4th floor and it was close to vending, the kitchen in room was helpful. the bathroom is big and everything worked perfectly for our family. I'm picky about hotel rooms,and I have to say that the room was extremely clean.Everything looked nice and clean. They gave us more clean towels when we asked. Very important to pay attention to the details. Nice job housekeeping staff!! Our teen daughter stayed at the hotel while we went to Canton for a concert, so she utilized the amenities more than we did. Here's what she said about her stay: She said the pool was warm and not cold at all. Perfect temp for her! The hot tub was just the right temperature. Not scalding - just a nice relaxing temperature. She said she forgot our room number when she came back from the pool - and we were gone - and the staff was nice and friendly and HELPFUL in getting her safely back to our room. THANK YOU!! Jeez, I was so worried about leaving her in the room while we were so far away, and the staff took care of business. A VERY BIG THANK YOU!! She got things for breakfast, but didn't. She said there wasn't a huge selection, but the things offered were great. I trust her opinion so thank you breakfast staff! Check out was a breeze and the Front Desk staff were all very nice and helpful about their little walk around town and the fun places to visit. The noon check out is so much better than 11am that most hotels have. You'd be surprised how much an hour means, when getting ready to check out of a hotel. Thanks for that! We didn't realize that Berlin is a destination place for a weekend for people in Columbus and actually from all over. It was a really cool 2 hour home, dotted with farmers markets and interesting little towns to check out. We had a wonderful time at the Berlin Grande and will definitely be back!!!! read more

The room was awkwardly laid out. Toward s wining when we needed to turn the lamps on, we realized neither of the lamps in the dark corner where the couch was, were plugged in. One was not plugged in because there was no plug available there, the other was not plugged in because the out let wiggled in the wall and the cord couldn't hold the connection. Upon bringing this to the managers attentuon, he was short, rude, and ultimately offered us an extension cord that would have to run across the room in order to plug in. Thank goodness the outlet didn't spark through the night! read more

Great hotel with a great price! We got a room with a king sized bed and a pull out sofa. It also had a bar area with a mini fridge , coffee maker, and microwave. Very large! The bathroom was quite large with lots of counter space. The shower was also very spacious. Very clean! The lobby and decor is very well done. We came to see the Amish country, but with 3 small children, didn't want to do a B&B in the area. This hotel definitely met our needs. They had homemade cookies at check in! Who doesn't love cookies before bed? Staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. We are looking forward to the breakfast that's included with our stay. True the rooms are large and the staff is nice. However, the toilet paper sucks. Take your own! We always stop at the McDonalds in Millersburg before heading home because we have a long jaunt with no place to stop. That McDonalds has stronger and softer toilet paper than the Berlin Grande. Also, be aware that they have started construction on an addition and you know what that means... noise, dust, lights. read more

Stayed at the Berlin Grande for 4 nights this past week. The hotel is in the heart of Berlin, right smack in the center of Amish country. The cost per night is reasonable. The staff is friendly and the hotel is nicely decorated. You get free breakfast (the same options each day), free parking, and free internet (a bit slow in my opinion). They have pet friendly rooms (I believe 3 total) so if you want to book those you need to plan ahead. The room had a small balcony, mini fridge, microwave, sink, and island. I'm not giving them a better rating because the walls and ceiling are too thin. We could hear the conversations of people next door so we knew they could hear us as well. We also woke up to the walking of the people above us every morning. We had to leave the AC on all night in order to reduce some of the noise. The pool and the hot tub are very small (the smallest I've ever seen in any hotel I've ever stayed in) but if you have small children they won't really care. At this point I'm not sure if I would ever stay here again, time will tell. read more

We loved our visit to Berlin and staying at this hotel made our visit perfect. The Berlin Grand Hotel had a lovely, modern, large room but most appreciated was the friendly staff. They took the time to help orient us to the area and had several recommendations. The hotel had cookies in the evening and hot chocolate or coffee to make in the lounge. We decided to stay here for our visit to "Amish country", and were pleasantly surprised at how modern the decorations were. Our room was so sleek and stylish, I wouldn't mind designing my own house that way! The room was also extremely spacious, the double beds were completely booked but we had plenty of room to roll out a second mattress for the kiddos. The pool and hot tub were sufficiently heated and nicely kept. We were unable to load Netflix off of their wifi though, I suspect that either high data usage programs may be blocked or the signal is just weak. The rooms did not keep extra blankets in the closet as many hotels do, and there seemed to be a shortage of pool towels so we did have to make a few extra trips to the front desk for these items. As others have said the breakfast was a pretty good spread, cinnamon rolls nice and soft. Try the bee bath products, they have a natural, refreshing scent. read more

I enjoyed my stay here at Berlin Grande, they also have pet friendly rooms which is perfectly located on the bottom floor where there is a big lawn out the back. They supply complimentary breakfast, the eggs are tasty and they have strawberry waffles with complimentary fruit and hot drinks during the day. They have an indoor swimming pool with a hot tub. The gym is small but has what you need, with a treadmill, bicycle, some hand weights and an elliptical machine and they have a computer on the second floor for free printing. It is located in a quiet area and the Berlin shops are only walking distance away. They supplied everything we needed inside our room and are awesome with their house keeping and cleanliness. The wifi wasn't the best here but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the staff were super friendly people, I would definitely stay again. There is no kitchen for ordering food but there are vendor machines and a small shop next to the front desk and a nice Amish restaurant is the neighbor of this hotel too in walking distance down a small slope of road. Good and bad. The good is the location and the rooms are nice and modern. The bad is this place allows dogs, and we were put in a room adjacent to a barking dog, and the dog owner was gone so we had to sit in our lovely room and try to relax while listening to a barking dog. The staff were friendlier and more caring than the assistant manager. The staff does eventually try to take care of constant dog barking (after I complained twice), but you have to wait until whenever the pet's owner decides to return to the room. This place has a horrible pet policy, expecting us to tolerate this instead of them addressing this and coming up with better practices so customers don't have to endure this crazy scenario. The assistant manager is not empathetic and didn't seem to genuinely care, only stating pets are allowed and that their staff did try to do something when they could. I kept telling her she wasn't understanding me and that her response wasn't helping. The problem is guests shouldn't have to endure this and they should come up with better plans and policies so we don't have to. The assistant manager never once thanked me for my feedback or said they would look in to this. She really did not seem to genuinely care one bit and cannot feel what this would be like for a customer. If you anticipate staying here, understand that the walls are super thin, and if a dog is near your room and unattended that their policy is basically you have to tolerate it and wait until the owner returns and they can do something about it. This management gets a big fat 0 on the scale of 1-10 on customer service and problem resolution. read more
