I have always been wary of taking my son to a "kid's salon." I am a licensed cosmetologist and have been cutting his hair since he was 10 months old. Lately it's become too much for me so I wanted to take him to get it done. I researched tons of salons geared towards kids in NJ. I chose this salon because of good reviews and the fact that it was clean and had the cars to sit in with personal tvs. I drove almost 40 minutes from home and it was the best decision I made. Lily cut my son's hair and not only did she do a fabulous haircut but she was so patient with him. Do you know how hard it is to get a blended buzz cut on a squirmy toddler? She's a saint. He wouldn't let her put the cape on him, and kept asking to go into another car but she didn't let that phase her. She was so accommodating and friendly. She even gave my daughter a balloon at the end too because she was with us. And the price? So reasonable! I will now be a lifelong customer. read more

They gave my son a bow cut. Like what you would see someone do at home. The lady was not considerate to the type of haircut I wanted. Nor did she try. The stylist and manager told me when a kid cries they can't do a proper cut. We went to a place for kids because we expected them to have experience when a 3 year old is crying and scared. We are very disappointed and their lack of professionalism and experience. We asked to get it fixed and was offered one time in the next couple days or in 2 weeks! To fix what they did wrong. I'll update my review once I see how they fix the cut. read more

A great place for a child's haircut! We have taken my son twice (first time was for his first haircut) and we had a great experience. They have numerous chairs all different types so the child can choose. Both visit we chose to stay outside where they have a small patio and a Spider-Man car. My 4 yr old usually kicks and screams when it comes to salon cuts so we've always done it at home. But he lit up when he saw the cars he could "drive" and with a huge selection of cartoons to watch, he was in a zone. Such a pleasant experience. My 8 yr old didn't have an appt but when he saw they had Minecraft and other video games for older kids, he wanted a haircut too and they accommodated us! Def will be coming back. I took my baby there for his first hair cut yesterday (23 mons.) and I was less then enthused. I specifically brought him to a kids' hair salon because it was his first cut and I wanted to go someplace where the stylist knew how to deal with little ones. I had an appointment for 4:30 and they didn't take us until at least 4:50. What's the point of having an appointment if you have to wait at least 20 mins? That is not an easy thing to do with a (almost) 2 year old. Our stylist was only mildly friendly. When I told her that he was autistic and she might have to be patient, she ignored me...TWICE. It was obvious she didn't understand what I was talking about (language barrier), but she didn't try to figure it out or even ask what I meant. She literally ignored me twice! She rushed through the hair cut and handed me a tiny plastic bag for his hair. No little certificate. No lollipop. No "Aww..don't you look cute?". Nothing. I have done this with my 3 older kids and the other salons always tried to make at least a little fuss. The haircut itself looks a bit strange, but I can accept that because it's got to be hard to cut a baby's hair. This experience cost me $25 plus tip and I could have had a better experience almost anywhere else. I will not be going back again and I will dissuade my friends and family from going. read more

My son actually asks me when his next haircut is because of his positive and fun experience at Berkeley's Cuts for Kids. There are cool cars and jeeps to sit in while your child gets a haircut...The latest "add" is a new bulldozer! For older kids, they can play video games. Score! Your child can select a show/movie to watch (...and they have everything!) At the end, they walk out with a balloon and a lollipop. I honestly don't think a haircut could be any more enjoyable! The salon is clean and cheerful and there are toys to play with while you wait. The staff is friendly and patient with children (even with the kids who may cry or scream). They know all kids may not enjoy getting a haircut and they make sure your child feels secure. They can cut hair with a child on Mommy's lap or while Dad holds their hand. The staff is flexible... as they have to be when your clients are kids! Most importantly, they do a nice job with the haircut. No uneven cuts, buzz cuts or cuts that only look good one week later! My son always looks handsome afterwards and everyone (especially him) loves how he looks after a haircut! It's adorable that he feels handsome and wants to look in the mirror or show his cousins his "new look." read more

This is my critical review, take 2, after the original (bad) review was pulled from Yelp because of you-guess-who. There is no denying that the hair cuts my kids got are amateurish. Just trim and plow and $25, thank you. Knowing how to operate a trimmer in a fancy place doesn't make one a hair stylist. I took my son here for the first time today and couldn't have had a better experience. We don't have any children's salons in our area and have to travel at least 20 minutes in various directions to get to one, so I have tried a few. Maddie cut his hair. She was calm with him the entire time, never phased when he squirmed around and kept talking to him and the cut was great! The last two cuts he had at other salons didn't look great and we finally have his hair normal again. We had a 12:00 appointment, but I was available sooner so I went early to see if they could accommodate us and they did. read more

Their new in house barber Marco is absolutely fabulous. Fast, professional, and good with my 7 year old son. He gives you exactly the hair style you want with ease and perfection. I arrived 5 minutes early for my appointment to have my 2.5 year olds hair cut. The waiting area was full so I stood, holding him, waiting patiently. After 20 minutes of standing and waiting...a woman came over to tell me that they were overbooked and had a birthday party coming in - so they could not honor the appointment I had. I was extremely frustrated by how this was handled. Not only did we plan our morning around the appointment - but this left us with no time to make another appointment somewhere else - and the haircut was in preparation of a family event. Unfortunately, Sunday was my first and last trip to Berkeley's Cuts for Kids. I had a 1:00 appointments for my 3 year old daughter. At 1:15 I asked the receptionist if it was going to be much longer until soneone saw my daughter. She said it would be about another 5 minutes. When I got up to see what was holding things up I saw that the woman was coloring someone's (adult) hair in the back room! After another 15 minutes I scooped up my daughter and left. The receptionist asked if I would like to re-schedule! Seriously??? I already had an appointment for that time/day. Why in the world would I re-scheudle. I have been bringing my kids to Berkeley's Cuts for Kids since it was Sharkey's and I have been a satisfied customer for years now. I have been going to Reina, now the owner, who was a hairdresser there before she bought the business and took it over. Business has been nothing short of great! She always does her best to fit you in her schedule and she has a lovely staff of ladies, who are sweet, kind and courteous...my boys have had haircuts with all of them and never have we had an issue or bad experience. Reina and her staff do their best to work with you and your child and they have beautiful Spa parties for girls! I also have my hair done by Reina...she does a great job with adults too and always schedules adult appointments around kids appointments. Sorry to see any negative reviews about this business, don't let a couple of bad apples spoil the bunch...keep in mind that every good business place is entitled to have an off day of being really busy or understaffed. Worst experience ever!! I took my toddler daughter there. The lady, who has the name Melinda on the shirt had a bad attitude. She was cold faces watching my daughter crying at the beginning, said her hair has no style, and said to me "if she can't sit still, I cannot cut". Even worse, she just cut the banner in 5 minutes, and then wanted to finish it. She doesn't seem to know what she's doing, asked me where to cut, and had the terrible attitude!! At last, another lady came to help, who is better. But I'm not happy with the hair cut. If my daughter came in with no hair style, when she came out of the shop, it's still no hair style and even worse! I don't know why I bother to go there, I can do it 5 minutes at home just cut her banner, which is easier and happier for both my daughter and me. No going any more! I never write reviews but feel compelled after the experience I just had. After booking "glamour" treatments for my daughter and two friends for her birthday weeks in advance, I received a call two days before to let me know they could no longer honor my appointment because after I had arranged my appointment, they had booked a larger party at a conflicting time. The reason given was the party had left a deposit while I had not-yet I was never asked for one. The only options given to me were to change dates or times, none of which worked...my daughter had been looking so forward to it too. I have been to a couple of parties here with my 5 year old and have also received one pretty bad haircut for my son . The thing that most upsets me is the fact that they are using products that are bad for adults! Formaldehyde laden nail polishes .. Drying aerosols for their tiny nails and chemical filled face masks with caused my daughter's skin to get horribly inflamed. They were completely oblivious to this.. When I asked for a wet cloth to wipe her hot little face she grabbed a baby wipe ..Oof. They are all sweet women but they really need to be more conscious of the products they use on our little ones. read more

We had a great experience here! This place is so adorable! Took my daughters here for cuts, and for $5 they also polished their nails (with princess-themed polish). We were very happy with the cuts/manis. The whole feel of the place was perfect for young kids. The decor is adorable (for girls and boys too). The girls sat in a Frozen themed car while watching Frozen as they got their hair done. At the end, they received balloons and lollipops. They did not want to leave! I totally recommend for young kids. We all know they need to be distracted to sit through a cut, and this place hit the mark. Very cute! We will be back. read more
