I do not recommend this salon. Juli texturized 2 inches of my naturally curly hair. She took the texturizing shears and literally cut horizontally. Any experienced hairdresser knows if you do this to curly hair it will fray and break. I was just recently able to go to a salon to trim off the 2 inches of frayed and broken hair. The hairdresser was completely perplexed as to why someone would do that to my hair. My hair is 2 inches shorter but finally healthy again. read more

So this is a mixed review... Back in September 2014 I got my hair done here. I had an appointment with Juli (the owner) to get a cut and color. She did an OKAY job... It wasn't terrible, but I've had better. The kicker though is she left I the middle of the appointment and another girl (I believe her name was Ali or Allison) cut my hair and she was fantastic and did a great job. So flash forward my ombré and hair are really grown out so I decide to go back. I make an appointment and am this time scheduled with JuliA (just a regular stylist). When I tell you she botched my hair, it's an understatement. She was overbooked and working completely alone because Juli was on vacation. I asked for a blunt edge, long bob with heavy golden blonde highlights that would look a little like an ombré (so highlights with a modern twist). I had a picture that I showed her of EXACTLY what I wanted. She first over processed my hair, so it was actually a mix of GRAY AND WHITE. No kidding it was not blonde at all and the kicker: when I literally teared up in the chair asking what happened, she tried to tell me I asked for that!!!! No apology offered. So three rounds of toner later, we're ready for the cut and she makes a comment about how she's cutting in layers. I reminded her that I wanted the blunt edge cut, and she replies "well I'm just cutting in some layers for movement". That's nice Julia, but that's not what I wanted. FOUR HOURS LATER I walked out of there with hair that was still the wrong color and layers, but at that point I really needed to go. Julia never was rude during this process, she just really really screwed up. However, she didn't offer me any type of discount or concession for her botched work which is terrible business. Either way, I wouldn't go back there even if it was free. Last comment about the pricing and atmosphere... I have gotten my hair done at many places, and with the exception of this one, all very upscale (my hair is my baby lol). The entire salon is lackluster with a cheesy black, white, and red decor that's very early 90's, but their pricing is that of an upscale salon. For me the atmosphere is a big part of my experience at any salon. This definitely isn't the place to come to feel pampered. read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Juli for several years now, and she always does a fantastic job. I have A TON of long hair, and just taking off some of the weight is basically a cut in and of itself. She makes suggestions for switching things up a bit, which I appreciate because I'm not really one to pay attention to new trends or techniques. I opted for the calligraphy cut the last two times, and it is absolutely pricey, but completely worth it in my opinion. I got my hair cut just before the salons were ordered to close in the spring. Normally I'd be badly in need of another cut 8+ months later, but my hair still looks really good (in the sense that it's really holding onto its shape from the last cut really well and the ends look completely healthy). I've been going to Rachel for a couple years now and she's amazing. No matter what style I'm going with, (there have been many colors in-between) she always nails my vision. Many times I just ask her to do her thing and I walk out feeling like a new woman. The salon is clean, and in a great location and the prices are great. I booked an appointment weeks in advance for an American Wave perm. Pretty expensive long procedure. I arive on time only to wait for the person who was doing the proceedure to talk to another client about her extensive haircut extension and dye job. I asked the front desk if the woman would be doing both clients at the same time and was told no. The other woman was there for a consult. Then, the stylist proceeds to take the other woman back to the sink. I asked if she would be doing both of our extensive procedures at the same time, and she said yes. She said she was running behind. She asked if I wanted to reschedule. No thanks. Lady budget you time. Both are extensive procedures involving attention and chemicals. Do not trust your hair with these people. The pace looks tacky too. Bad all around. Close it and turn it into a blood draw lab. That is where you feel like you are going when you walk in. Also, it's on the second floor of a sad strip mall. Good luck to them getting people in for higher end service. Stick to buzz cuts ladies. read more

If it was possible to give this place 0 stars I would MUST READ - I went to Salon 1100 on Wednesday December 17 to have my blonde hair cooled down with some lowlights mixed with highlights. My stylist, Allie, told me in order to make it look more natural she was going to make the underneath of my hair a bit darker than the highlights; instead, she made the underneath COMPLETELY brown - dark, chestnut brown, quite opposite of "natural" and completely NOT what I asked for. (they made me pay an extra $60 for this as well) When I arrived home I realized how horrible the dark brown looked against the rest of my blonde hair (friends and family agreed). I called the salon back that night to arrange a time for them to fix it and they were anything but polite. Nonetheless, I went back at 2 the next day. The next day, sooner than I sat down and had the cape put on me, Allie told me that I would have to pay for product even though it was her mistake. I explained to her that I did not bring any money with me because I thought they were just going to repair the mistake that THEY MADE. She rolled her eyes and said she'd "go in the back room and talk to her boss." She returned and told me I still needed to pay - and this is where it gets ridiculous - She promptly took the cape off me and told me to go back to my house to get the money for product. I had to drive 20 minutes back to my house to get $15 dollars. When I returned back to the salon I wasn't even greeted by the receptionist and they made me feel very uncomfortable. When I sat back down in the chair my stylist was rude and unprofessional. She globed color into my hair in less than 10 minutes and rinsed it out shortly after. Because of how uncomfortable they made me feel - I left the salon with a wet head. When I got home and my hair dried, it looked almost exactly the same as before except now I had a large orange spot on the back of my head. (see picture below) Although wearisome of their reaction, I called back and made them aware of the spot. They were extremely condescending and hung up on me at the end of the conversation. I made an appointment for 10am the next day but decided not to go back in fear of what they might do to my hair. I would NEVER GO BACK to this salon. I'm sorry to say it but this salon clearly does not know what they are doing. I'm sure almost everyone has gone to a salon that they weren't 100% pleased with however, most salons are very accommodating and more than happy to fix something that a customer is not pleased with (especially if it is something they did not ask for) - this salon is NOT one of them. I have never been to a salon that showed such unprofessionalism and lack of customer service. I paid almost $200 for this service and expect to get what I am paying for - not to be disparaged and treated poorly. This is the first and only review I have ever wrote in my life and I'm sad to say it is such a negative one but I would STRONGLY recommend that NO ONE waste their time and money on this establishment. After purchasing a Groupon for a haircut and deep conditioning, I called Salon 1100 and was able to get an appointment for the following morning. I haven't had the best luck recently with salon experiences, so I was a little nervous. Other review sites had great reviews, so I was looking forward to a good experience and results. Salon 1100 is located on the second floor of a strip mall with a pizzeria, chinese takeout, karate studio and nail salon. I would suggest that they put a sign somewhere outside indicating their location, because it wasn't the most intuitive. Once I peered in the lobby and saw a sign inside, I knew I was in the right place. Julie washed my hair and applied the deep conditioning treatment. This was my first time having one done, and my hair does feel very soft and smells great! Julia cut my hair. She was very understanding of what I wanted done. I have long hair and want to keep it long (most places get too scissor happy), but she knew just what I needed to keep the length but add more volume for easier styling. After she was done cutting, she blew out my hair. Most salons (if you don't specifically request/pay for a blow out) have you leave with wet hair or only "rough dry" it. Julia took the extra 25 or so minutes to blow out my long hair so I could really see the layers and new volume- I'm very pleased :) I definitely recommend this salon and plan on going back! read more

I bought a Groupon for the salon and was able to get an appointment in two days. Finding it was a little bit difficult as it is on a second floor of a strip mall. I almost drove past it if it wasn't for my GPS. My Groupon got me a deep conditioning treatment, which didn't seem to do too much for my hair and a hair cut. Julie cut my hair and did a pretty good job. She made sure I knew and agreed to how much she was going to cut off. The only down side to my visit was the fact that because of the Groupon, they were so busy. With only 3 girls working in the salon, I felt that I didn't get as much time as I wanted with Julie. My hair was barely dry before she took off the smock/cape (what is that thing called anyway?) and ushered me toward the front desk. I'd recommend this place overall though! read more

Julia Root is the best stylist I have ever had! I tried this place out earlier this year when I had a Groupon for a haircut and highlights. I was not expecting much because you would be crazy to have high expectations for a Groupon haircut. The cut and color were so awesome that I resolved that day that Julia would be my one and only hairdresser from now on. Mind you, I am 40 years old and no hairdresser has ever inspired me to say that. I have had a great many haircuts in my life and I always feel that I could do better with someone else the next time. I have gone to a few hairdressers more than once, but I have never been blown away- even by people who have amazing reputations and cost a ridiculous amount of money. The location of Salon 1100 is not hard to find. It's in a little strip mall off of South Avenue in Westfield. The salon is in the middle and up a flight of stairs so it's entrance is not one of the main stores. It's upstairs so you can see it from the parking lot if you look up, but it is not readily apparent when you drive into the parking lot. I did not see it when I got there the first time but I am not the most observant person in the world. The salon is very clean and well decorated with a very modern feel. Everything looks very up to date. They have products there, but not too many, and a bunch of pocketbooks and stuff, but no one gives you the hard sell on them. Julia was very responsive to what I told her- which was not a lot to go on- and she really had an intuitive grasp of what I wanted and what style would make my hair look the best. I returned yesterday to get my hair cut again. I held off on the color since it will be summer and it won't last. Again, Julia did a great job on my hair. While she was blowing it out I noticed that I wanted it to be shorter and she took the time to do that even though it took a while. She also styled it in a way that I thought was interesting, twisting little sections and drying them with heat and not air so that it would be wavy. I appreciated her taking the time to show me the technique. This girl knows her stuff and she has integrity about the work she does. She has a clear standard of what she believes is a good haircut and she wants her work to be appreciated by her clients and others long after you leave the salon. A stylist who is that dedicated to being awesome at their job and not jadedly expecting to have you fork over cash for the same thing over and over again is rare. Even more impressive is that Julia is barely 20 years old. She has that enthusiasm and spark that really bodes well for her career. Also impressive - I only met Julia once and she remembered so much about me and what we had talked about the last time she did my hair. I really appreciated that she did not pressure me to buy any products, and she did not try to sell me that I had to come back in a really short amount of time, either. I did not feel over sold. One last thing, both times I saw Julia, her own hair looked great even though it looked really different both times. She is a very attractive and well put together young lady so that bodes well for how good she can make you look, too. I recently moved into town and was in need of a spray tan for a wedding this weekend. I am so picky with spray tan places as I've been to a few in town and hated them. I realized last minute that I should probably get a hair cut/highlight before starting a new job, so I went to see if I could find anyone on groupon who had a good deal. Salon 1100 was offering a partial highlight and cut for $99 and has decent reviews, so I thought I'd give them a try. I have long, thick hair so I basically just get layers every time because there's not a lot you can do with soooooo much hair. I had Julie (owner) for my color and cut. It's been a long time since I've been so happy with a hair cut! She did an amazing job on both the cut and color. She gave me a different shape to my cut to mix things up while keeping it long. The color is perfect too! I mentioned that I didn't have time for a blow dry because I had to get to work, so she had another girl blow dry with her, so I was able to get the style done and still get to work on time. Terrible! Went for a root touch up on blonde hair. Besides burning my hair, my roots were dark orange and the rest was a gold/orange. Juli, the owner tried to fix it and put additional toner and more damaging lift to my ends . When I left, my hair was toned down but the toner itself washed out in a few days. I reached out to explain the circumstance, and requested a refund for my ruined hair, she refused. She was fully aware that she'd made a mistake, then refused to believe me when I reached out to let her know the outcome Further, I was scheduled for a Brazilian Keratin Treatment, but found when I got there that Juli applied 1/2 the head, while her "assistant" applied the rest. I backed out (thank God) when I overheard that the assistant was a junior in high school, not even out of school and had been working there only 2 weeks! She told me that her newly employed teenage girl was doing the Brazilian applications because "we are a training salon"! Nowhere was this advertised or communicated. Despaquale and other high end salons offer discount hair services from students for training. You go in knowing that and made aware. STAY AWAY!! They will ruin your hair! read more

I had a love/hate experience with this salon. My review is based off of two visits I had; the first which was for my initial hair cut & the second was to go back to have an issue fixed. I had gone to the salon for a hair cut & peekaboo highlights, which unfortunately was not what I received. This was due to miscommunication when I booked my appointment over the phone; I had told the receptionist that I was hoping to get peekaboo highlights, however she put me down to have mini highlights done. The mix up was something that I did not realize until after leaving the salon when I noticed more closely how my highlights started at the root of my part (this was my first time having any type o highlights put in my hair so I was unsure of the different applications for certain styles). This probably could have been avoided if I had a more thorough consultation with my stylish prior to the hair cut starting. The stylist did not talk with me much about what I was there for or how I normally treated my hair. The only thing we really discussed what the highlight color that I was going for, which in the end I was happy with, however due to minimal communication between here and I my highlights were not applied in the proper way nor did I receive the type of cut that I wanted (I had asked for long layers but received short layers that were way too choppy). When I called the salon to make them aware of the situation the owner was very apologetic & eager to have me come in again to fix the problem. I was not expecting for her to offer to have me come in again, so I very much appreciated her willing to work with me & fit me into her schedule. When booking the second appointment, the owner was very accommodating with scheduling me for a time where I'd be out of the salon in time to make it to work. When arriving for the second appointment though, it wasn't until a half hour after my appointment time that I had got into the chair & the process to fix my highlights took much longer than I was told. I wound up being late to work & left the salon with wet hair because there was not enough time to even dry it. Although I very much appreciated the owner fixing my hair, it was frustrating leaving the second appointment in this way because when scheduling the appointment we had discussed how I would be out in time to make it to work. Had I have known it would actually be a much more extensive process, I would have made the appointment for another time. The atmosphere of the salon, however, is very nice. The space is very open & clean. The products they use also smell amazing! The staff is also very hospital. Upon arrival I was asked if I wanted coffee or water & when sitting under the hair dryer they always made me aware of where the magazines where so I would have a way to pass the time. The major issue here is communication & organization, however. It seems like there's only two people working at this salon, both of which double as hair stylists & receptionist. On both visits each stylist would have to step away from a client when the phone rang or a person entered the salon to greet them. Overbooking also seemed to be an issue because on both visits "a wrench was thrown in their schedule" because of taking on walk-in clients or having two clients accidentally scheduled at once. I was really excited to have my hair cut here because of the positive reviews I read online & heard from friends. When you get a hair cut it's supposed to be an experience to treat yourself in a way & to momentarily escape from the little stresses of life & just do something special for yourself. This was more of a stressful experience for me though, & I definitely left with my looking feeling the opposite of "elevated". Overall I'd find it hard to recommend this establishment to others. read more

After going to many salons and having horrible experiences, I got daring and purchased a GroupOn. It's exhausting just looking for a good hair salon and to actually find one is impossible, at least for me. I don't ever purchase hair salon GroupOns so I was a really hesitated at first, but I got over it...and I'm glad I did. This salon is very welcoming and nicely decorated, the staff is friendly and courteous, they offered to take my coat and then offered me something to drink. My hair stylist Julie was great! I love that she took her time to listen to what I wanted done on my hair and also give me advice as to what she thinks. She was attending someone else at the same time but she knew how to manage her time perfectly, I didn't feel forgotten nor did I wait long for her for anything. After cutting my hair, she blow dried it and ironed it without extra charge. I loved the way my hair looked and felt! First time via a groupon for hair cut and conditioning, I would rate that experience as 3/5 but this time I again went for a hair cut and Brazillian Blowout. Julie did the hair cut for me, which I loved and other two girls did the brazillian blowout for me. It came out perfect as I wished.
