Located right in the heart of Berkeley Springs, you can walk to all the spots in downtown. The hotel is cozy, with a nice pub on site and spa. it is also just steps away from the Berkeley Springs hot springs, along with the community pool and farmers market. On the latest stay, we got a room in the newer part of the building. It is the less expensive room option, but the room is very spacious. We prefer the older portion of the hotel, in the main building. But you can't go wrong with either spots. I'd recommend getting reservations in advance if hoping to eat on site. The pub has limited seating options. But its well worth the stop.

We had the seafood chowder to start which had very good flavor and was a perfect thickness. The side salad was like a wedge salad but with romaine lettuce and was a great ode to a classic but much much better. The blue cheese dressing was also amazing. Then I had the Meatloaf Wellington. I don't believe there was a duxelles or ham so it was more of a Meatloaf En Croute. That said the pastry really didn't add anything. The Demi Glaze was next level though as were the mashed potatoes. I remember eating here a lot when I was little with my dad but haven't been back in a LONG time. It is a great place then and is now. I'd love to go back.

It was such an absolute pleasure to experience your enthusiastic welcome, your genuine hospitality, your unique morning cuisine, your dynamic personalities and engaging conversation ON THAT MAGIC PORCH!! While those words may be a start, it only scratches the surface of our appreciation of what we shared with you last weekend. So while I consider further review accolades, let me, at least, share that something else, that I mentioned in one of our passionate conversations - the recipe of my late wife, Kay, of New Orleans LA, for her exceptional Croissant Bread Pudding, which is always a winner where & when dessert is being celebrated. I know that you can make this occasion dish one of your own, at least to taste, and for others to enjoy on such special occasions at your Mendenhall 1884 Inn!!". Do yourself that favor that you have deserved far too long and treat yourself to a few days with the Mayor (Greg) and his First Lady (Claire), rediscovering the Front Porch and the best of a Bed & Breakfast experience!!

One more block to the main shopping area. and two blocks from Lot 12 resThe only problem about the location is that it is very close to the main road through town and there was some noise from trucks breaking for the nearby stoplight. But I consider myself a very light sleeper, so the average person will probably not have issues with this. The place is very clean and comfortable. I stayed in the Rumsey Suite. The bathrooms are modern and have fantastic jetted tubs. The bed was very comfortable. My room had a white noise machine, ceiling fan, a large closet, free wi-fi, and even electric candles for a romantic touch. They offer a continental breakfast with a lot of options and a Keurig machine for coffee. There is a nice patio out back overlooking the brook. Parking is easy, free and right outside. The innkeeper was very nice and friendly - happy to chat and answer questions about the area - but did not impose on the guests. The decor is cleaner and simpler than most B&Bs, which was a huge draw for me! I don't like rooms full of creepy dolls and tons of old lace. I would recommend this location. The back room with the two twin beds probably has the best view.

My husband and I went during an off weekend in early February. We checked in to our room in the afternoon and were shown the common rooms and locations of the coffee, tea and cocoa. Breakfast was served from 8:30 to 10:00 at nice little 'tables for two' buffet style. I really enjoyed the fact that although B&Bs are notoriously more personable than hotel/motels, this one doesn't force you into sitting at a big 'family' style table for all meals. Yes, there are resident cats. We saw about three milling about though out the weekend, they were not underfoot. The rooms were very clean and I am not a cat owner, but never smelled any 'cat' or litter box smells. (nor saw any litter boxes) We stayed in the Algernon room. I specifically chose this room for the big spa tub that is located in a separate room. I took several soaks in it and aways had hot water. The bathroom had a large window, basic sink, porcelain tub with a integrated shower. It also had a nice little vanity table with mirror. I found the bathroom to be fairly roomy and was heated nicely. The bedroom had many windows and a nice table and 2 chairs. It was very cozy and comfortable. Bed was a queen and mattress was nice, not hard or worn out. It seemed like all of the doors has big cracks in them, but I just chalked this up to 'character'...and the fact that everything is kind of vintage. The hostess that checked us in offered some dining choices and even made reservations for us for that evening. The Inn is in easy walking distance to many of the restaurants and also the shops and spas. It was hideously cold, but we braved the low temperatures to walk to dinner that evening. We were also celebrating my husband's birthday this weekend and they had a nice little bouquet of balloons for him in our room($20) when we checked in. We brought our own wine and Barbara (the hostess) sent up a cute little tray with 2 wine glasses. We both found our stay here to be very relaxing and even the soap had an intriguing smell. I actually bought 2 mini-bars when I left.... -------------quick facts---------- Food--- good coffee cakes and preserves, a jar was even gifted to the birthday boy coffee--- yum..but .my husband didn't care for the 'coconut' blend served with breakfast, there was instant available in the tea/cocoa area wifi--- great connection tv--- boxy 'flat screen' circa 1995, but enough to watch the weather parking----unload and check in out front...then pull around the side/back. sneaky tip----nice path from side of parking area that goes down to Aunt Pearls house and downtown
