Great open dog park right next to the lake. Easy parking, accessible area, and plenty of shady places to sit. Recycled bags are a nice touch if you forgot your poop bags. Water for pups, not always easy to get water out of jugs. We will mostly likely come for the walks around the lake but the park is a nice low key option. . read more

Years later, this is still on my list of top 3 places to take my dogs in Denver. The volunteers who maintain the park do such a great job, especially making it easy for owners who wouldn't normally pick up after their pups. Conveniently located right off the freeway. Always plenty of parking in the recreation center lot. Tons of space to run around, with separate sections for high and low energy dogs. Lots of water, again provided by volunteers. Not much seating if humans want to rest, but overall owners are friendly, and it's a fun time for everyone! read more

I am torn on the number of stars to give. On one hand, when the dog owners are responsible and pick up after their dogs and supervise while playing it has been wonderful for our young dog. However, recently I have spent time picking up after other people's dogs so the dogs (or owners) don't step in it (as in I pick up 4 to 5 messes from other dogs every time I am there). I also know there are volunteers who help a lot (thank you!). But....on top of the owners not picking up after their dogs, there have been many people bringing in large and aggressive dogs that attack other dogs lately. Some are working with their dog and supervising, but several people just let their aggressive dog go chase down and bully other animals. Our dog got attacked last night - he was bitten and his ear was torn. There was blood - a lot of blood. The owner did not help separate the dogs or even say anything to us at all. In fact, we asked if his dog was ok and he just pointed at ours bleeding. As we left to go to the vet, he returned to ignoring his dog who continued to run around and bully other dogs. Nobody says anything. We will not be going here any longer. I wish the city had resources to occasionally monitor at busy times and/or that all owners could gently encourage others to be mindful of their dogs. If you know your dog is aggressive, you are irresposible for bringing your dog to play with others. Please do better. read more

Overall my dog has loved coming here. Today my dog was being attacked by a German Sheppard. When I tried to get my dog out (dog mom instincts), I was bit and ended up with a through and through bite on my arm and a large medical bill after spending 6 hours in the ER. After posting pictures on social media, I've had a number of dog parents tell me that they no longer take their dogs here due to other aggressive dogs. At the end of the day, it's not the dog's fault. But parents should be wiser and NOT be bringing aggressive dogs to dog parks. Unfortunately I don't think we will ever go back to another dog park in fear of another situation like this. read more

From the perspective of my dog: My parents are the best! They take me to all different types of dog parks. I love being outside, running around, sniffing things and making new friends! This park is big and open and I don't have to wear my leash. However, what's up with the dirt/gravel combination? Maybe I'm being a snob? I don't know, it's okay I guess. Better than nothing. But after a while, I get bored of it. There's something about rolling around in grass that has my heart. On multiple occasions, they've neglected to fill up the water tanks too. Luckily my parents always bring water. But I've seen many other dogs that are thirsty after all that running around. We have to stay hydrated in the Mile High, right?! I'm a glass half full type of gal, so ultimately I think this park is three stars. It's A-OK in my book. I'll take it over staying home, but there are half a dozen other parks I'd rather go to. I have been occasionally coming to this dog park over the last several years. I was never that impressed. However, now that I live over on this side of town, this has become my go-to place. These days, I have become rather fond of this park. Although not huge in size, it is big enough for your pooch to do some running. It is gravel-based, which is not my favorite, but is easy enough on which to walk. There are enough benches throughout, that one can usually find a place to sit if you will be hanging out for a while. The volunteers here do a good job of keeping up with water hauling and poo patrolling. Their jobs are a lot harder on the weekend when attendance peaks, and more dogs start doing what they do, while sometimes inattentive owners miss the deposit. King Soopers donates the bags. So, even though they are larger than needed, there are always plenty of them. Attendees are a mixed bag of people and breeds. But, they are generally nice and there seems to be fewer negative interactions than you might expect. This is NOT an amazing 100 acre dog park with varied terrain, trails, and water features. Yet, for what it is, we are lucky it is here. read more

My dog and I love this dog park! It's clear that the people in charge of the maintenance of this park put in a lot of time and effort to keeping the place in the condition it is always in, which is great. Every time we go, there is a bunch of balls, water is provided in large containers, they have poop bags in case you forgot yours, and everything always looks clean. There are two areas, one small area for smaller dogs and another much larger area for whatever-sized dogs. We've never really had an issue with the dogs and owners that come here. Most everyone keep to themselves and the people we have conversed with were pleasant. I would like to point out that there is a note posted at the park stating to please pick up after your dog because the park maintenance crew picks up 20-30 bags of poop everyday. Please be a good owner and pick up after your dog(s)! read more

A nice gravel ground dog park! Gravel isn't my favorite, hence the 4 stars. I think the pea gravel might get a little hot for the dogs in the summer, but in the cooler months it beats dirt because there's not much mud! There is many benches to sit on and it's very popular and usually pretty busy. The walk from the parking lot to the dog park isn't too long, and it's located next to a really nice lake. The highway is next to the park, but not very loud! read more

Big open space. Some shade. Good variety of dogs. It's not Disney Land but it's a lot better than most area dog parks. Tried to edit a previous review but I'll just update here. Lately a great group of volunteers has brought supplies into the park. Stations with King Soopers bags if you had forgotten your own poop bags. A trash drum inside so you don't have to walk out to throw away poop each time. A tool box where volunteers keep a few upkeep items. A broom for rocks under the entry canopy, a few rakes, a shovel. Best of all a dedicated cart with four water jugs. Volunteers routinely come and fill them from home or the water fountain outside, when operational. Fresh water for everyone! Other than that it's the same park it's always been. City closes it down one to twice a year for some maintenance. Mostly running a tractor around to even out and somewhat regrade all the gravel. They took out he big entryway tree two years ago because it was dying. read more

The facility itself is fine, but keep in mind that anyone is bringing any type of dog to this park. People will naturally do whatever they want to do if rules are posted on a sign but not actually enforced. We brought our Brittany Spaniel to the park and within 5 minutes of us being there it was attacked by a pitbull/pitbull mix. The attacking dog would not let go/had its jaws locked into our Brittany Spaniel's neck/ear and the attack lasted for roughly 2 minutes. Our dog was injured and had to be taken to the ER. The pitbull's owner noted that he had adopted the dog two weeks prior from a shelter, and bringing that dog to the park was incredibly reckless. If our dog was not a mid sized dog, it could have been much worse. All of this to say, any type of owner and any type of dog can/will be at this park. Be careful. read more

Nice park, plenty of shade, near a lake. The dog area is a decent size, however there's very little grass. The whole dog section is gravel. It's fully fenced however and very secure so you shouldn't have to worry about your pups. read more

I wish that I liked this dog park more. The park is gravel/dirt, which is a less than ideal surface and reminds me of dusty kitty litter. You need to remember to bring water because there's no running water, although there are at least water bowls. I'd be able to overlook those things, but I can't overlook the people who bring aggressive dogs here. Most of the people and dogs are nice, but the owners of aggressive dogs who should know not to bring their aggressive dogs to a dog park prevent me from being a fan or being able to say that the park is A-OK. The main area of the park is very large, and there's also a smaller area for low energy dogs, which is usually where I take my 20-pounder to escape an aggressive dog. The main area is mostly unshaded; there's one awning and a couple of benches. It tends to be crowded under that awning. The smaller area has one bench, but doesn't have any real shade, although there are a few trees that provide a little shade. The trash can is near the smaller area, which makes the smaller area smellier. At least most people pick up after their pups. The fact that there's the smaller area for refuge allows me to give this park a 2 and allows me to keep bringing my dog. Otherwise, it'd be a 1, and I wouldn't bring my dog here. read more

We like this place because it's really close by and is pretty huge. I think it's a great use of the space. People are pretty responsible, although watch your step if you walk around the perimeter...I think folks ignore some dookies when their dogs let loose in the distance. There is a separate "low energy" play area which I think is nice for older and little guys. *BRING JUGS OF WATER TO SHARE! :) How do we get running water installed at this place??? I don't mind bringing jugs of water to fill the bowls, but the pups tend to knock the bowls over every few minutes and the fountain nearby barely trickles water. It's been really hot and dry lately so some running water would be really nice. *BRING DOOKIE BAGS for yourself and to refill the stash. Oh I almost forgot I wanted to mention--we don't have kids so it's not an issue for us but I have seen someone being asked to leave by park staff because they had a very small child so I think there is an age requirement. After being knocked nearly to the ground myself by a playful pack of pups I guess it's understandable. read more

Beautiful area you have a view of the mountains and the lake. The only concern I have is that I have a small dog and there are never any other small dogs there to play with, usually just big ones. If you want your small dog to play at a dog park this really isn't the place. But if you're looking for a place Although there is not usually small dogs to play with. This is a pretty average dog park. you let your dog off the leash, it chases a ball or the other dogs, and that's about it. There is a volunteer fill station, and a place to grab a poop bag, but that's pretty much it. This isn't the place to go if you're looking to take your dog for a walk. Just get your dog out, run around, be cold, hop back in the car, check it off your list. convenient location. Some times it's a bit chaotic with all the dogs in the covered area. I got peed on my first time there. Yes, a dog came up and lifted a leg and peed on me. I uncomfortably laughed "oh it happens"... but no, no that doesn't normally happen. read more

The past couple of times we have come here there have been some extremely aggressive dogs. I was hoping that the irresponsible dog owners would fade away as they tend to come and go, but yesterday my Bailey got attacked and ended up running away with a very bloody nose and lip. She is ok, but traumatised. The worst part? The pet owners stayed there with their dog and started throwing the ball for them as we, and several other pups and their parents, left. We will be staying far away as long as people and their dogs of this caliber are using this dog park. read more

The park is large and has plenty of space for your pooch to burn off some energy. The landscape is gravel, which means less mud and grime to clean off your pal after a visit, and there are plenty of benches for the humans. Bring water and plastic bags if you can! A nice park that I'll never return to. The space itself is good- decent parking, some shade, a nice view, etc. But the fact that there were so many aggressive dogs with owners that didn't seem to care was astounding. There were at least three separate fights in the 15 minutes we were there, one where the owner let his dog go back over to the dog it attacked the first time and guess what- it attacked it again. Fortunately, a number of people wised up and left in what looked like a dog park mass exodus, and we were able to inform some others coming into the park of the situation, preventing more issues. But bottom line is- the park is fine, but worth avoiding at all costs because of irresponsible owners. read more

This particular dog park is pretty far from us, but what's worse is that there's absolutely no shade. That's probably fine in the winter, but in the summer and fall it's unbearable. read more

This is the time of year to give thanks : I'm thankful and totally impressed by the army of volunteers who have divided and CONQUERED some of the issues facing this dog park. SUPER IMPRESSED by all the new dog bag dispensers donated by the King Soops at 44th n Sheridan! The new borders at the base of the fence installed, the dog litter dug out from outside the fence ... WOW!! There are 2 older gents in particular who show up regularly to clean and organize you guys rock the casbah! The big blue water jugs ... SHAZAAM!! Very aggressive dogs with irresponsible owners. An American Staffordshire Terrier with cropped ears attacked my dog and I had to intercept and rescue my dog who was in serious danger! The owner of the vicious dog took his time and didn't think it was a big deal... His dog then bit me, and broke the skin... It was honestly one of the scarier situations I have been in. And I just was so blown away at how comfortable this owner was with his dog fighting with other dogs... Based on a few of the other reviews, sounds like there have been a number of close calls at this place... I would steer clear of this place... Way too many dog fights! read more

Where to start. This dog park is fairly large, easy convenient parking and friendly dog park. The area is large and is all gravel. I like this park for the ease of the location but it doesn't seem to be maintained at all by any city clean up crew. The area is definitely dirty, smelly and filled with dogs. I mean filled with dogs. Some aggressive, some small and some humping. I do not recommend after 3pm, fills up quick and unable to enjoy it, at this point. I do like the owners, ease to strike up a conversation and mostly friendly. I have met tons of people there and like their company. I think if someone would clean and regular maintenance it would a very nice place. I go for the company and location mainly. read more

I haven't had the problem everyone else has. At the end of the day you are responsible for your animal and the manor in which you choose to exercise them. That being said, I really enjoyed this park over the closer one Downtown. My dog often finds other dogs to play with and run wild and the people are friendly for the most part. A fountain or water source would be great but there's often jugs around to get water. I like the open space available for the pup and the surface is nice because it doesn't become mud or get dusty. While I applaud Denver for building some dog parks (finally!) I have to say that this one basically sucks. First of all, there is no water. Second of all, there is no shade. Third of all, the entire park consists of a coarse sand-pebble combination that is very hot in the sun and is apparently extremely uncomfortable for dogs to run on. Our dog hated it. All she did is try to drink other dogs' water. If we had known we had to bring water, we never would have come and we didn't stay long. The people seemed generally friendly but there is a second, smaller fenced-in area for smaller/"less active" dogs...And yet, small dog owners still insist on bringing their little yip-yips into the big area. It's all well and cute until they get into it with a big dog and then guess who will be blamed? I don't know why people can't use common sense. Also, we were astounded by the number of people smoking IN the dog park. They're flicking their ashes on the ground and could hit one of the dogs. And I don't really enjoy inhaling second-hand smoke as I stand in the sweltering heat watching a bunch of dogs trying to crowd into the one area where there is a water bowl (brought by someone else). Finally, you're close enough to Elitch's here to watch the roller coaster and hear the screams approximately every 30 seconds. The whole experience is not relaxing or particularly fun for either humans or their canine companions. One star. read more
