Beautiful room. It's probably the second nicest hotel in Richmond, and a good backup plan if the nicest one is completely booked, which is how we ended up here. King sized beds are very comfortable with nice bedding. The showers are roomy enough for 2. It's location is also perfect! read more

Wonderful experience staying here for a work event beautiful rooms and awesome service. Food is delicious.

This place is disgusting. The lobby smells very badly - like cigarettes and mold. Staff was rude. Elevator is falling apart. Very outdated (does not look like it has been updated or even cleaned since the 90s. Dust, mold , grime everywhere. Also our room reeks! read more

A beautiful little gem of a hotel. Many friends and business people have stayed here and love it. I love its breakfasts and dinners. One friend booked a room with a large balcony that overlooks Shockoe Slip and Cary Street. She had room service provide the food and hosted a great outdoor party. There's also some very old and rare maps of Virginia hanging in the lobby that I recommend looking closely at for details. You'll be amazed how long ago everything was named in this area. read more

Great, honest hotel in downtown Richmond. Rooms were large and clean, daily room servicing was first class. Breakfast was delicious and service first class. The bar is pretty stark but warmed up by great staff like Jo and Ann who are always happy to chat. The bar closes at 10pm. A definite great find and would have no hesitation in staying again if in Richmond read more

Aesthetically beautiful but the front desk service was subpar. The clerk took 5 minutes to let us into the building and begin check in as they were missing from the front desk. The water pressure on the shower was one of the lowest I've ever experienced. I wouldn't book here again. read more

The Berkeley Richmond, Outset Collection by Hilton - 4th floor view - Hotels Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

I think that this hotel was once nice but it is no longer. Despite booking a room for two people, our room included only 1 robe and 1 coffee cup. In addition, there was no conditioner provided and everything was falling apart. The blanket had holes in it and the comforter was ripped. Because of COVID, there are pretty much zero amenities (though I think the hotel is using COVID as an excuse to do very little to make guests comfortable). The restaurant wasn't open at all and besides some overpriced muffins that can be purchased for breakfast, food and drinks are nonexistent. Had this hotel been significantly cheaper (our room was $279/night), it may have been fine but for a hotel that bills itself on its website as "upscale" and "luxurious" it was a disappointment and a rip off. Way past it's prime, outdated and lacking pretty much any customer service. I would stay at the Omni or the Courtyard Marriott down the street any day before I returned to the Berkley. read more

We called ahead and informed that we will be arriving around 1:30 am. Driving from Atlanta. When we arrived there was no one at the front, we rang the bell called the number... after 10 min lady emerged saying that she didn't think that we were coming... uhhh ok. It took her another 15 min to check us in. She was talking nonstop about how great their brunch is, that will not be served the following morning because it was Monday and not Sunday... I asked if the room where my kids where staying was ready and if it had pillows and blankets for them, she said that it should but if not there should be some in the closet. We go to the room I open the pullout couch and there were no pillows no sheets and no blankets. I grab some pillows from our bed call the lady and inform her that we need bedding. It's 2 am. We wait another 15 min. She comes and brings one blanket telling me there should be more in the closet... guess what? There is no closet in that room. I tell her we need sheets, she goes to get sheets and this time comes back pretty fast probably because we all look drained and exhausted. Our bed was comfortable. Kids didn't complain either. The balconies in those rooms were really nice and specious. We didn't get to enjoy it though cause we checked out at 8 am. They charge as a 4 star hotel but they do not provide 4 star service. read more

I stayed at the Berkeley Hotel in their room with a terrace on our wedding night based off the pictures from their website. The room I received did have a terrace but nothing else looked like the room I booked. The room they gave us was very small and not worth $280.00. I didn't expect the room to look exactly like the website but I did expect it to be the same in size. This was a special night and I wanted the best room they had to offer so I booked this months in advance. I spent $297.00 in all and it was not worth it. They called to offer me free stay or $75.00 gift card to their restaurant but at this point I'm so over the Berkeley. Also if you order room service they have to take you card down stairs to run it and bring it back, I was told they can't charge it to my room. If you ever come to Richmond, Virginia stay at The Jefferson(much nicer). read more

The Berkeley is a classy old hotel in a nice neighborhood downtown. The rooms are pleasant, the bed is comfortable, the pillows feel great. The best part of this hotel, however, is the staff, they are friendly, warm and welcoming. I felt like home from the moment I entered, Alfreda at the front desk (hope I got that right) and Mark, manning the bar are the nicest, warmest, most welcoming people I have met in that capacity and so professional. I would not hesitate to stay there again or recommend to others . read more

Teeny tiny double beds. No good. We booked via Priceline and ended up with two double beds. The room was clean as was the hotel. Everything is a bit outdated, especially the beds, but still nice. I was just so shocked that they had double beds. I travel a fair amount and have never seen anything smaller than a queen. The front desk attendant told us we could upgrade to a king room for $50. We already paid $150 for the room so we just kept the double beds and ended up having to sleep separately. read more

Our stay at The Berkeley was fine -- nothing spectacular. I've lived in Richmond my whole life and have always thought it'd be so nice to stay at such an iconic hotel in my hometown. We stayed as part of a wedding block, so honestly we were only there to check in, wake up, shower and leave. Upon arrival to the hotel, the young valet driver didn't seem to know what he was doing and parked one car directly in front of the hotel door and left no where else for other cars to pull in to be parked. He 100% had room to pull up and make room for our car as well, but instead he looked at us, looked back at the car he had just gotten out of, shrugged his shoulders and then walked inside without doing so. If we stay in the city again for an event, we'll probably book elsewhere. read more

Had a fabulous dinner at the Berkeley Hotel, Chef Tony Taylor did a great job! His short ribs and crab cakes are great!

We stayed here one night, basically needing a clean and quiet stop over. The hotel itself was charming, the staff was pleasant, the cookies were marvelous, and we could easily walk around downtown. We used an offsite parking lot overnight for $14. The room had a significant coupon for dinner in their restaurant, but we did not use it. (Being an older building, I was pleasantly surprised that I did not find signs of mold or mildew from water damage.) read more

Where to start...my boyfriend and I booked our room through Orbitz after deciding to give this place a shot since it was a different hotel we haven't heard of. At check in our reservation could not be located. We were then graciously given a room on the second floor. We open our door and the room is super small and smelt like mildew. The bed however was amazingly comfortable. We had checked into the hotel on our way back from myrtle beach to northern va since my boyfriend wanted to watch the football game and I was tired and wanted to rest. We call the front desk to get some recommendations as to where I can order some food and it seemed as if the lady didn't even know the Richmond area so I use yelp to find a Chinese place for pick up. We get back to the room 10 minutes before the second football game of the entire season starts and the only channel not working in our room was NBC. Apparently the whole hotel was having this problem so instead of being able to relax in our hotel room we were basically forced to watch it in the bar where it conveniently was working. I complain to the front and we get a voucher for breakfast. We get up and go to breakfast the food was delicious but my fruit cup was old. The strawberry looked 5-6 days old and was wrinkled the watermelon wasn't ripe at all and it tasteless. We then head back up to the room and nap. We are awakened to the loudest drilling noise outside our room. No pre-warning from management or anything. Just the loudest drilling sound before check out! How rude! Why wouldn't we be moved or told by management that they planned to do work outside our room?? To make matters worse we just end up packing our small bag and back pack up and run down to the lobby to check out. I notice I forgot to grab my phone from the bedroom. I go back upstairs and the bed is already stripped and the housekeeper tells me she hasn't seen anything. Yet I haven't left the hotel at all and had my phone with me at breakfast and when I laid down to set an alarm. So miraculously my phone is not found yet I never left the Berkeley at all and I ask to speak to the GM. Which she unprofessionally tries to defensively tell me her staff is being accused and I politely tell her that I haven't left the Berkeley and my phone never left the room so where do you all think it went? She refuses to give me a full refund for our horrendous stay because she said that the hotel would be admitting to fault for my lost/STOLEN phone. Everyone please reconsider before checking into here. We spent $139 on a small mildew smelling room and the hotel is very dated with no pool. The staff is not that knowledgeable and management is very unprofessional. Lock all your items in the lockbox to protect your items from being stolen. Had to pay $169 for a new cell phone to be sent through my insurance. Also the manager would not look at the cameras for me to see if she could see something and since this is a privately owned hotel there is no corporate. Do not make the same mistake as us. Stay at the higher rated options like Westin or Hyatt Place. They say they are a four diamond hotel...I think they are a zero diamond hotel with dishonest people working there. My cellphone never left that room. Only 1 housekeeper in the whole building....you all tell me who has my iPhone 5s gold...exactly. I rate this place 0 stars and 0 diamonds. I'll be filing my police report shortly. read more

Love love love! Gorgeous little boutique hotel on a cobblestone street. We loved everything about our stay. We are more "Holiday Inn Express" people but decided to try old school luxury for a change. We booked last minute via Expedia and were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in a beautiful room with a terrace. Plush bathrobes and towels and nice bathrooms. Nice "Boutique" Hotel located in the heart of old town Richmond. First time here and it is a really nice place. Rooms are great for two with a shared balcony looking over Cary Street . Tobacco Warehouse Resturant is across the street , good eats. Love the little bar area , old time Richmond reflected thorough out. Classy dining room with a wonderful Chief too . Valet parking, quiet rooms with high ceilings. Nice roomy bathrooms as well. I do however recommend NOT to get breakfast for room service. Fruit was great, tea nice & hot, butter great, waffles --- hard. Lol what can I say? I will be back here again for sure. Yes, I like this hotel. read more

A huge thank you to Kate at the front desk who made things right by changing our room when things did not work out as planned. Thoroughly enjoying our balcony and king sized bed. This was my first time to Richmond, VA and I couldn't have had a better experience. The room was beautiful and extremely clean. The ladies at the front (especially Starlett helping me find a nail salon!) and the valet associates were warm and friendly. Just want to say that you should never book a hotel room at The Berkeley Hotel in Richmond Virginia. My husband and I booked a hotel room there 4 months ago for the VCU Richmond UCI Road World Championships (still 10 months away) and got a confirmation number only to be told that our confirmed reservations would be canceled today! Never will I book there again and I am going to spread the love to my friends to by telling them to stay far away from such awful customer service! read more

This place is decent. I give it a full star for cleanliness, a full star customer service and a full star location. Walking distance from restaurants! I took stars away because of the lack of amenities! This is not a place where there's a pool, mini fridge or microwave. If you're staying there for a few days just know that you'll only be using this hotel to sleep. They do have a restaurant but i didn't eat there because of the poor ratings. I love to stay up and snack on left overs on vacation but nope not at this hotel! I risked food poisoning (since I had no way of refrigerating it). After risking food poisoning at 10:00 Pm i could not find a place for a drink...a soda. There's no vending machine or a mini bar...just good ol tap water. Oh after choosing this place to stay on budget we ended paying $23 a day for valet parking. It was between that or paying for parking garage and because we were staying there for few days valet ended being cheaper. read more

This was a perfectly located boutique hotel with a great staff, beautiful rooms, a terrace off our room, valet parking, and nice little room amenities like robes, wifi, etc. I thought it was reasonably priced with the Picasso exhibit deal we got. $179 included exhibit entrance, free parking and a $20 credit toward brekkie or a free continental. We chose to eat off the menu for breakfast and that is where they lost a star with me. My $12 standard was skimpy with two eggs, bacon and a choice of potatoes or apples. Honestly, I thought a $12 breakfast should be hearty. With $3 coffee and $3 juice, it became a bit pricey. The biscuit I got was a sickly sweet rubbery mass unlike any I had ever had. Overall, the breakfast wasn't bad, just overpriced and underwhelming. I would gladly stay here again, but I would not dare eat in the dining room. read more

Caveat emptor - LET THE BUYER BEWARE! Checking-in via Groupon was unwelcoming-to-inmpossible. Restaurant can't offer fresh meals: lettuce, fish & etc. Wasn't the wait staff's fault. This management isn't running an upscale hotel. Robert Robinson read more

The pic's you see on Yelp or on the hotel website and the new rooms. We stayed on the 3rd floor which I would never do again. The room was ok, but the noise from the street was really loud. The location is good with many places to eat and drink within walking distance. The staff was very friendly, but when I asked for a couple of bottles of water the lady at the desk said she didn't have any and they would have to be sent up. 30 minutes I called down and said to forget it. Like I said, if you stay on one of the top floors which are new and would be less exposed to the street noise you would probably have a better experience. read more

This was ideal location for downtown Richmond. It is directly across from the Tobacco Company Restaurant and many others. Walking distance to state capitol. Since we were there for a Saturday night we had no problem finding on street parking although the majority of the guest seem to use the valet parking. This is a boutique hotel NOT a chain so don't expect the modern upgrades. It is clean, quiet and well run. read more

We stayed at the Berkeley this weekend and our stay was excellent. Everyone on the staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was spotless. We'd forgotten to print something and they have a computer in the basement which they allow you to use for free. I loved the location and would definitely stay again. We were able to find street parking every time we came back to the hotel so there was no reason to valet. read more

Cute hotel on a cute street with several restaurants and bars nearby within walking distance. The restaurant (for breakfast, anyway) was not very good. Hotel itself is really cute with comfy beds and great pillows. We could hear hallway noise as our room was right by the elevator. The thermostat doesn't go any lower than 68 which is kind of annoying and the windows aren't very good at keeping the outside sounds out, despite the fact that they are bolted shut. There's A LOT of road noise which woke me up around 7am. Prob better hotels to choose from, but it was fine for our one night stay. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. read more

We stayed here on our quick trip to Richmond (also catching dinner at Acacia). Very nice accommodation. Room was very clean, staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Location is nice. It appeared to me that Richmond on the weekend (downtown) is dead. I think it's mostly occupied by government-types and bankers during the week and on the weekends it empties out. So coming to downtown can be a very quiet experience but nice if you are looking for that. Breakfast was definitely nothing to write home about. The service was nice, but the food was cubes of cheese with bread and some yogurts with little boxed cereals. It would be nice if they increased the price by $1 and served some food not out of a box. But overall, very nice hotel and service. read more

A perfect place to stay if visiting Richmond, especially travelers w/dogs! Staff and accommodations top notch. Very reasonable prices too.

I LOVED this hotel. I surprised my boyfriend with the romance package here. I will admit, it was a little pricey, but the location is great (right in the center of downtown Richmond) the hotel is nice, and the staff is supper friendly! The package came with valet parking, a bottle of champagne, roses, and breakfast in bed. The shower was fantastic. It was one of those that sprayed on all sides. And I got a room with a terrace overlooking downtown. I have to admit, my favorite part of the stay was the breakfast in bed. William (the chef I spoke to) asked me about my preferences on drinks, food, and so on. The face on my boyfriends face was PRICELESS when William brought the trolley in the room. He brought FIVE plates of food, at least. We got the typical French toast, bacon, eggs, and etc but the fantastic part was the jalapeño chicken and waffles. He truly made our stay special. I would HIGHLY recommend this AAA four diamond hotel if you have a little extra cash to splurge. read more

I stayed here following the Richmond marathon in November. The staff is super friendly, and the service excellent! They offered a package that allowed us to have free valet parking, champagne and chocolates, and free breakfast for a room price comparable to the Omni which is catercorner from the Berkeley. This review is for the Restaurant: We had a large party of 9 and our waiter was excellent in coordinating drinks, food and professionalism. It did take a bit of time for the the first course to come out and a bit of a wait in between for the entrees, but everyone was served at once! Which is a big bonus in my book. My issues have to do with the food. No one really liked their entire meal and it certaintantly did not warrant the price tag of the meal. ($450) When you have 9 people and not one goes this is great, you have to try this, you have a problem. When you can't give your food away there is a problem. To be fair SOME items were excellent. Besides the food quality, a major issue with this restaurant is when I asked if the kitchen could split a salad for me, I was told NO, but I can bring you a knife and a plate. They list "No Substitutions" on the menu as well. For this "caliber" of a dining experience this is unheard of. Also they might want to back off of the liquid smoke, the smell was so strong on the carrots I almost had to excuse myself from the table and my entree did not include them and the first whiff was across the table 3 seats away. Empty dining room on VCU Graduation and Prom night, not good. The service was a 4, I would give the food a 2. read more

Staying at the Berkeley Hotel the night before my wedding and wedding night was one of the best decisions I made for my big day. The folks at the Berkeley hotel were gracious enough to offer a HUGE beautiful parlor for the ladies in the bridal party to get ready in. If you need internet (and who doesn't these days) do not stay here. Arrived, got settled into a very nice room close to where I have to be for business tomorrow and sat down to get some work done. Logged into the secure wifi with no problem but every website I try to go to is unavailable. Desk clerk tells me to bring the computer down to the front desk and she'll do it for me. (I travel weekly, often for days at a time, and NEVER have a problem getting onto the hotel's internet, but OK, I'll let her try. No luck. While I'm standing there another guest checks in and, seeing the trouble we're having, trys her computer right there at the desk. Same result. Now they're going to call the ISP (they said COMCAST, who knows). An hour later I get a call from the desk to tell me that COMCAST says there is noting wrong and my computer settings need to be changed. Reminds me of when COMCAST was my ISP. Problems were constant but they would always tell you it was your fault and their service was perfect. Long and short of it all is that there was not internet despite the fact that the hotel's website advertises it. Will not stay here again. To many other hotels in Richmond even when the General Assembly is in session to put up with this nonsense. Avoid this place at all costs unless you really don't need or want the nonexistent "free internet". read more
