I would give 0 stars if I could. We hired Carl, the owner of this sub-par company. He quoted us a…read more"cash" price. We agreed and he performed the work. All was great for about a week until all the slate around every railing he installed cracked. We contacted him to inform him about the problem at which point he starts saying he didn't do anything wrong. He finally comes out to look at it and tells me it's not his fault and he can't repair it. I asked him, was it cracked before you started? He said no. I said is it cracked now, he said yes. I asked how is it not your fault? He claims the slate wasn't set properly for the last 8 years. Really? I said, well if you're a professional and that was the case, why did you do the job if you knew it would crack. He then just went silent. He then said he would have a mason come by to fix it because he was wrong. I never heard from a mason and after many repeated phone calls to his office, we never received a call back. This coward won't return my phone calls. It's a shame because the railing did look good, but the quality of work and just overall professionalism is the worst I have ever seen.

On 9/18/16 I called & left a voice mail asking Carl to call me. 4 days later, he did. I asked him to come to my home. He asked if this was about a new job; I said "No". He said he'd come that day (Fri.) or Monday. He didn't. I made several subsequent calls with no response, so on 10/10/17 I wrote a letter with a full explanation regarding the crack problem & telling him he hadn't returned any of my calls. No response. I made more calls. I then wrote a second letter of explanation on 11/5/17, "Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested", telling him I'd sent him a letter on 10/10 but had had no reply. The receipt came back, but no Carl. Colonial Railing had been recommended to me by someone who I thought would recommend someone reliable, so I didn't do research on them. My bad. I have now researched four websites including this one, and yours shows two out of three gave him one star; make mine the third. At least two of us would give him no star, if we'd been allowed. There was one glowing report; I assume the reason for that is they must have had no reason to call Carl back, or they most likely would have had an experience similar to the other three of us reviewers. I now knew that expecting a response from Carl was a lost cause. I decided to bite the bullet and do what needed to be done to put the porch back to rights. I found an excellent mason, who removed the railing and replaced the necessary stonework, and a top-of-the line company to reinstall the railing. From start to finish, this matter took 3-1/2 months from beginning toI I end, and repair costs were more than the original railing and installation cost in the first place. But at least I'm not chasing Carl down, and I'm rid of all the stress and frustration that I lived with for this 3-1/2 months.
