Love the sushi and teriyaki plates. The sushi is fresh and the prices are reasonable.

We have really enjoyed both the food and the service here. We take our out of town guests here for an east side option to great sushi without a trip to Portland. We especially enjoy the "Spicy Plus" roll, the "Rock and Roll" and the "Salmon Lover Roll". Sashimi and Bento all good. Not much seating so get there early or you are out of luck. When it is just my husband and I we are happy to sit at the sushi bar. read more

Great Take Out! My wife and I wanted some take out sushi for dinner and we had never had their sushi before. We called up and it was ready in 20 min. It was great! The nigiri had big beautiful cuts of fish. Big and tasty rainbow and California rolls! It was very delicious! We will go here again. The sushi chef was really nice and very personable. Ate here with my brother after leaving the DMV (which is right behind Bento Plus). In short, we loved it! Best value bento box I've had, ever. We were too late for the lunch prices, but even at dinner price, the bento boxes here are an outstanding deal. For 8.95, you get your choice of any bento they have. I got the beef teriyaki box, which included a tuna roll plus tuna nigiri roll, rice, miso soup, salad, pork dumplings, and of course beef teriyaki. Everything was great. The sushi was fresh and made to order, and the teriyaki was DELICIOUS. Sweet and tender and seared and yummy. I just don't know that you can eat this well for 9 bucks anywhere else. The bento box here feels like a cute little mini-feast. I will be returning regularly! read more

Not in a beautiful strip mall, but it's the best fish and the best value/quality/quantity/creativity of sushi we've found anywhere. Seriously, anywhere. Huge pieces of gorgeous fish that are immaculately prepared and at the perfect temperature. Not too much sauce on anything. And the owners are on-site and beyond lovely. The service is 'all business' but that makes it possible to get in and out between kids soccer games. Love, love, love. Am shocked (but grateful) it's way out here. read more

Sushi and Teriyaki places come and go. Bento Plus is within five minutes walk from my house and has been there for ten years. They must be doing something right. Here it is: If mom and pop were from Idaho and wanted to open an eating joint, it would probably be your classic bacon and eggs joint. If you are Japanese mom and pop, you get Bento Plus. It really should be called Sushi Plus. For the money, the portions are huge. Ten bucks will get you teriyaki chicken yakisoba, three pieces of tempura (two veggies, one shrimp) and six pieces of sushi. I am not a sushi expert, but I enjoy it. The slices of fish are fresh and large. The yakisoba is not soggy or soupy. The tempura is crisp. I like that they wear the sushi chef uniform and give the thank you bow. There is a language barrier, but who cares? I am cool with an actual Japanese person making sushi, or a Mexican making burritos or a white person making whatever we make. (I, whitey, make macaroni and cheese from a blue box, hence the amount of money spent on take out food). Go if you are hungry, enjoy one of Gresham's rare gems. read more

I didn't have my hopes up but thought I would try because it was close to my house. Another Korean owned Japanese Restaurant. The sushi used frozen fish and had no flavor. I knew it wouldn't be good so I ordered the non sushi items. Yet those were terrible too. How come sushi restaurants in Oregon never use fresh fish? It's just sad. How do Oregonians eat terrible sushi like this? And they proudly say, "I've ate sushi all over the world and this is one the best" No it's not, not even close. Good food for cheap. Large portions and fresh ingredients. The biggest complaint I have is the random and inexplicable times the restaurant is simply closed with no notice whatsoever. Seems rather unprofessional. I'm not entirely sure what happened with the owners but my favorite staff don't seem to be there anymore and service has definitely gone downhill. All the Fried food was very greasy - the tempura was incredibly greasy. The pot stickers were okay but also still a bit greasy. (blotting your food is an indicator that it is too greasy) They need to turn up their oil so it doesnt get soaked up by the veggies and tempura. They were not open Sunday so I went the next day. Here's what happened: I ordered a Spicy combination plate, a Chef's choice combination plate, veggie tempura, and prawn tempura. I ordered it to go (probably a big mistake on my end admittedly) I get there within the 15 minutes as they suggest. Thinking about it a bit more, I wished I just said 'please no miso soup' this made my food warm (eww warm sushi) That aside, the sushi was okay-ish the salmon and tuna nigiri peices were okay. The rolls were a little messy, but overall were okay. This is why you get one star: I went to fred meyer as a control group and picked up a simple 'yummy' roll which is a vegetarian roll with little flecks of imitation crab meat and also something else that seemed a mix of raw tuna and a vietnamese spring roll with rice paper -they were DELICIOUS. I paid as smaller sum and also ate this sushi at the same time - later that day at home and needless to say, the fred meyer sushi WOWed us over bento plus by a longshot which is embarrassing. I will probably not be going out to sushi restaurants anymore, thank you Fred Meyer. read more

Restaurants in Gresham are so hit or miss. Bento Plus is a HIT! Delish. Plenty of variety to choose from. Don't be put off of this restaurant because it is located in a strip mall. The atmosphere was decent, just a few tables with an attentive and friendly staff. The udon vegetable soup was filled with grilled tofu in a steaming hot broth and plenty of everything. The Philadelphia roll was out of this world! Although the vegetable tempura was tasty, it lacked variety of vegetables. Our tempura vegetables were only sweet potato and zucchini. Not ordering that again. Regardless of the tempura, i would highly recommend Bento Plus. I can't wait to eat there again!! read more

I'm a frequent of Bento Plus because I'm heads over heels in love with their "Lion King" rolls. The food there has always been good and fairly priced, so I go there probably once a week, always getting the same thing. However, the main hostess/waitress there is ALWAYS rude, and although I try to be polite and tipped her way more than she deserved the first couple of times I went there, acts like it's inconvenient to do her job. (i.e. tossing my check, sighing when I asked for water, looking out of the window when I order, never checking into the table) Like I said, I LOVE the food, but I've now gotten into the habit of ordering takeout so I don't have to deal with the absolute crap service, which if you do add 10 minutes to the time given to you because it's never ready by their approximate preparedness time. Edit: Bento has new management! All of my previous complaints have been fixed. It's so nice to be able to go back to a such a beloved place and enjoy myself. Bento plus what a plus! Straight up the best Japanese food for the east county buck! You have to get onboard with the aimplicity of the strip mall Japanese sushi spot run by an awesome Korean couple. We go to Bento plus for the quantity and quality. Starting off...Yakisoba great! Feeds a family of 6. Next Tempura amazing! Especially the Tempura dipping sauce. Then the Rolls...they are the stuff my otasan and okasan fed me in Japan. Simple, fresh and filling. The atmposphere could use some help which is slowly coming around. The chairs all match now and they now longer have the big table that was made from a hollow core door. What is really amazing is the atmosphere is what you bring. I have half filled the place with friends and had quite the party. I have also eaten there in solitude which was just fine So go have a good meal and tell them YELP sent you. read more

Surprisingly I thought my first review would be about a fantastic find or horrific mistake but sadly it's about mediocrity. While I did not try the sushi. We did have the udon and a bento. The udon was basically flavorless. It tasted like watered down beef broth and it was what I was really what I wanted. My wife's teriyaki bento had nothing to distinguish it from most of the any teriyaki places except that the meat was dried out. The service was horrible. We came in at 2pm on a weekday. There was a person sitting at the sushi bar eating and a couple at a table also eating. We sat down and they brought our menus. It took quite some time to take our order. There were 3 of us at lunch, my wife, son and myself. While waiting for our food a couple other tables had people arrive. I recieved my udon. 10 minutes later my son's meal arrived. The served the other 2 tables and it wasn't until I asked where my wifes food was did they bring anything. There was a total of 25 minutes from the time my udon was served and my wife's bento arrived. The service is why it's 2 stars instead of 3. The best thing was my 8yo's lunch. It was a generous portion of food for my boy and a decent price. Sadly there aren't many choices in Greham for Japanese food but luckily we are only there infrequently. read more

She walked away saying something in Korean (I'm sure it was nothing nice). She didn't even tell me of she was going to give me what I ordered or not. I'm ranking this the best place to eat sushi in Gresham. I have been to almost all the others, and a couple of them are honorable mentions, but this one is the best for sushi. They recently raised their prices, but is still some of the best value around. The fish is fresh and cleanly cut. The nigiri have slightly more fish that I would like in one bite, but that is their way of being generous. The hosomaki is not symmetrical, but the larger rolls are well made. The service is fast, efficient, and friendly! I would stay away from the tempura, although their sauce is quite tasty, the tempura is almost tanuki-style (all batter). The hot food as a whole is so-so, so order the lunch sushi special, makizushi and nigiri options. I recommend: The Seattle roll, rock and roll and they have a pretty good spider roll. read more

Ok- there are 2 sides to this story. But first let me just say, there is a fine line between quality and quantity... My husband got the spicy plus roll and enjoyed it ok. It had so much fish in it that he said he should have ordered some sort of avocado roll with it to ease the flavor. Its a huge roll though, and packed with seafood! BUT I don't eat fish so I just ordered the bento box and I was certainly not impressed. I have had plenty of bento boxes and teriyaki in my day and this was just bleh. The miso soup came out luke-warm, the teriyaki chicken tasted like it had been sitting out for a long while, and my potstickers tasted the (bear with me) the inside of a fridge smells after your leftovers sit inside too long. So...not too great. If you like sushi- I would recommend giving this place a try, but if you're like me and get brought along when your husband has a craving for sushi, I would bargain to grab something else on the way home. This IS the best in Gresham, though not in Portland. It is family run, husband, wife and daughter. ( I really need to get to know their names) The food is always great and fresh, from the rolls to the fabulous nigiri. Small selection of beer or canned soda. It is somewhat small, i think it fits about 30 people and can be hard to find a parking spot at times. It's always a good sign when other Japanese people go to a Japanese resturaunt. I only wish the wife would smile. We have tried very hard to make her smile and I think it happened once, but my better half would say no. The daughter seems to enjoy serving people, but man, we have made it a goal to get her to smile. ;) read more

Very satisfied with all the dishes we ordered! We got a bento, which had 4 pieces of sushi, grilled tuna, 6 pieces of sashimi, salad and tempura! We also got yakisoba which was too big for my brother to finish by himself, monkey brain and jalapeño poppers (appetizers but they were really filling! And very good!), aloha rolls (sooo good!!), katsu, and donburi (these were both really huge)! I would say all the dishes are huge and are so worth the prices! I would visit again soon:) read more

Holy yummy!!!! I have found a sushi joint that has excellent service and both tasty and affordable eats! I asked if I could substitute extra veggies instead of rice and it wasn't a problem... They didn't try and charge extra either. I will def. be coming to Bento Plus when ever I am in town. read more

Wow. This place has changed. I used to eat here a lot a long time ago but was shocked and frustrated with my recent experience. I came in early evening (around 7-ish) and was ignored by the staff (servers and chefs). Looking around, I saw that they were busy so I stood there patiently giving them space because I understand that it can get crazy and I get that. The sad thing is, there were customers leaving around that time and they were acknowledged by the staff (all the while I was standing there awkwardly). There were seats available on the bar and I even made eye contact with some of the staff, but they continued to ignore me, not even saying "please wait for a moment because we're busy, etc..." or anything that would at least let me know that they've noticed me. After more than 5-minutes of awkwardly standing and feeling invisible, I left. I'm not asking for a royal treatment. I'm just a customer who expects proper etiquette and decent professionalism from the staff. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. I'm definitely NOT going to this place anymore. read more

We stumbled upon this place for lunch when we had to go shopping at Fred Meyers. What a great find. My favorite food is sushi and it was a pleasure to find such good sushi at an affordable price. The place is small with a sushi bar and about 8 tables. The service was good although when I tried to order a Negihama the waitress didn't know what it was and I had to tell her a yellowtail roll. I ordered the assorted sushi lunch special for $7.95. I expected for the price just a few pieces but I got a California roll and a nice assortment of Nigiri sushi. My husband ordered the Tempura/Udon combination (sushi came with it also) and we couldn't believe the size of the portions. I thought we might need more so I ordered some Calamari Tempura. We had so much food we had to box it and take it home. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items on the menu read more
