It was a red flag We ordered the cheese plate, several clam chowders, and an entree-sized portion of Caesar salad. The cheese plate was generous: Four types of cheese (dill havarti, Gouda, cheddar & Swiss?) with a center of green olives, but none of the cheeses were identified, and it was ham, not prosciutto on the plate. The Caesar salad could feed six. It was pretty overwhelming. The clam chowder was full of thyme and potatoes and carrots and celery: It was the highlight of the meal. Our waitress was really sweet, but asked me, "You still working on that?" which is a phrase I think best banned from table-side service. ("May I clear this from you?" is a better choice.) Despite the large bar, when I asked about mocktails, the waitress helpfully offered, "We have Shirley Temples!". I was non-plussed.

That was evident with every person with whom we interacted, whether it was a hostess, a waiter, a bartender, or even the guy who filled our water glasses. That was especially helpful to those of us who had not been here previously. The menu is diverse enough to have options for any preferences or degrees of hunger. Our orders ranged from soups to appetizers to full meals. Everything came out quickly, and all our meals came out at the same time. Everyone was satisfied with portions and taste. I believe the only negative comments the entire evening were around the cocktails. One person mentioned that their price point was too high. I would have liked to see more non-alcoholic options on the drink menu, such as crafted alcohol-free cocktails. When we first arrived, I said we were hoping this would become our regular monthly dinner location. They certainly did their part to help make that happen!

Another friend, Pam, had highly recommended Emma Jayne's Restaurant which is only a couple of traffic lights from Trader Joe's - a perfect location for our trip. The restaurant sits just north of Fred the Butcher (next door, literally) for those who frequent that establishment, on Route 9. There is off-street parking. When we arrived at 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, the front parking spaces were full. (Note: there may be parking around back; I didn't check) We thought we might have to wait for a table. Wrong! The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with two large rooms furnished with tables that were thoughtful spaced apart. A photo of an adorable young girl, whom we assumed was the dining establishment's namesake, was on the wall. Let me be sure to mention that the ladies room, which smelled faintly of bleach, was spotless. I mean REALLY clean! About the food ... my friend and I shared an appetizer of Fried Calamari. It was an ample portion (took some home) accompanied by sweet chili sauce - a nice change from typical marinara served at other places. However, the calamari was small and overcooked. As a result, what was presented was a plate of small, overly crisp rings of 90% batter. No squid! For our entrees, Barb chose the Chicken Salad Sandwich. She requested that it be served on a pretzel bun (touted as homemade) for which we were hit with an up-charge of $3.50. The chicken salad had grapes and walnuts in it and Barb liked it very much. The up-charged pretzel roll did not appear to be homemade. Very disappointing. Had she known it would be uninspiring, she would have accepted the brioche roll. Macaroni salad - not very exciting - accompanied the sandwich along with a pickle. I love seafood and was torn between ordering the Fish and Chips (halibut) and Lobster Pot Pie (an appetizer). Our server, Drew, gets a gold star for suggesting the second one when I told him I wasn't a big eater. Apparently, the halibut, while highly recommended, is a sizable portion. The pot pie was superb! The rich, creamy sauce was divine. I couldn't eat it all and will enjoy the rest of it for lunch today. Emma Jayne's menu has something for everyone. Our server, Drew, was informative and attentive. While we may make other food choices (skip the calamari and pretzel bun but keep the pot pie), we will definitely return.

This may be the best version yet! For anyone who hasn't been back since Finnigan's on the Lake closed due to the owner's health issues, I strongly encourage you to return. The food was delicious, and the service was truly exceptional. The Tavern has been beautifully upgraded, the views of Ballston Lake are as spectacular as ever, and, most importantly, the owners and staff go out of their way to make every guest feel genuinely welcome and appreciated. My salad was a bit bland despite everything added to it; there just wasn't enough of any one topping to carry the flavor through the whole salad. I added on grilled chicken and that was very simple, nothing wow-worthy, and turned this into an almost $20 salad. My parents enjoyed their sandwiches. My dad got his with fries and my mom paid the $2 up charge for onion rings. For drinks, my dad got a Jim & ginger, I got the 1911 seasonal cider, and my mom tried their coconut mojito. My dad and I were perfectly a happy with our drinks, but my mom was very unimpressed with her's. My waitress did forget to bring a fork for my salad and we easily waited 5-10 mins to get her attention, and even tried flagging down two other waitresses too, so that wasn't fun. But otherwise our waitress was very personable and kind, and very apologetic about the delay with the fork. It's a small kitchen and family owned...so if a larger order happens to get ahead of yours, just have patience...or maybe a second bev. Or play some pool. Or put a tune on in the digital jukebox. We had a mix of items: buffalo wings, hot honey wings, sweet potato fries, regular fries, and jalapeño poppers. Everything was served hot and crispy with just the right heat on everything (that was supposed to be spicy). I'm a BIG hot honey fan so I will definitely be back for those wings. Lots of other stuff on the menu including salads, burgers, and sandwiches. Even though my Guinness came from a can, it was a good poor and I enjoyed it thoroughly (since it's been a while since I've had one). Plenty of other drink options on tap plus a full bar. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Holy Moses happens to be on the snowmobile trail, so it was pretty cool to see a bunch of people stopping in for snacks and drinks.
