One bad seed always weighs a ton. In this case her name is Maria. I've been a life long customer of Bennys. Benny's pizza has always been a comfort for our family ever since I was a kid and now in my own family. We order at least 1-3 times a month and my order is always the same. The delivery drivers already know our usual. I don't like to leave reviews but I've had it with this person taking the order. It's happened on more than 1 occasion where I've called to place my delivery order and she slowly hikes up the price 1-2 times before giving a final price if she even does. Just today i placed and order and from the beginning I stated that it would be for delivery and paying with card. I mentioned at least 4 times that it would be with card prior to getting a total. She finally repeated my order and said it would be $66.85. I said ok with card? She ok what is the card number. I gave her the number and she said ok your all set. So I said ok just to confirm $66.85? And she said oh no since you paid with a card it $69 and change. I can't remember exactly how much change. So I said you didn't tell me that. And she said well that's what the machine said and every time you pay with a card you get charged 4%. I repeated, but you didn't tell me that. She said well that's the way it is do you want it or not? I said I understand that but you never told me that but how am I supposed to know. She said well it's always a 4% charge. So I said and I'm just supposed to automatically know that I'm going to be charged 4% and should do the math on my own? And she said well you would have seen the price in the receipt when you got your delivery. So I told her that is her responsibility to inform me. That if she told me one price and I later see a higher price on my account that would be a problem. She proceeded to say that it's not her money and she's not the one charging me that it's the machine. I said that she is the one giving me a total and taking my card information so she needs to provide me with accurate information. Again she said do you want it or not? I said yes but switch it to cash. And I asked to speak with a manager. She said there wasn't a manager there. I asked when there would be one and she said later. I asked what time later. She said after 5. Again she asked so do you want it. I said yes but switch it to cash. She left me on hold for quite a while. I thought she'd hung up the phone. When she finally came back on she said she voided the transaction. I asked her for her name for which she responded was Maria. This was very frustrating. Benny's you need to do better. She is a bad seed that I'm pretty sure has Informed many customers incorrectly about the total cost. She was rude, unapologetic and lacks the skills to work with paying customers. I've never had a problem with any of the other employees except her. I was so frustrated I came close to ordering from somewhere else. But I love the pizza here. read more

I always order from Bennys Pizza when I want pizza! It's good. I always forget to order it well done. It elevates the pizza so much more. I usually order peperoni and pineapple but this time I got a sausage pizza. It was delicious. I'm so glad it did not have fennel. I would definitely order it again. One negative thing I will say that is overshadowed by the greatness of the pizza was that the last time I ordered delivery the price was a lot higher than the printer menu which arrived afterwards. This is another business in Pilsen with colorful Mexican art on its storefront, only they DON'T serve Mexican food. Like Louis C.K. says, I'm not racist....however, I do have mild racism. It's benign and non-aggressive. It's not even negative racism. Benny's is the perfect example because here I see Mexicans running a pizza place, and I think "...Hmmm?." You see? It's extremely mild racism. I'm just saying, I'll notice that. Their pizza reminds me of Phil's in Bridgeport, but not as good. But if you're craving that hearty, thicker-thin crust, and want to save a few bucks, this gets the job done. My only complaint is sometimes their pizza seems a tad undercooked. It's not detrimental, but it could use more crisp. No problems as far as flavor. This isn't a place meant for dinning in, though they do have a few tables and chairs. It's more an 'enjoy a quick slice and a beverage, and get your punk-ass out' experience. I can only surmise most their business comes from delivery and take-out. Though hungry and desperate white people waiting in line at Thalia Hall tend to make their way over too. For a place that piqued my interest due to mild racism, Benny's is alright. I was in line at Thalia Hall across the street for the 9pm Dave Chapelle show yesterday. It was only 7:15pm. It was freezing, I was hungry and I still had two more hours! Benny's seemed like the quickest, most financially sound and logical choice. Now, full disclosure, I didn't have high hopes going in. I'm no pizza snob...wait....maybe I am...a little bit...so I knew I wasn't gonna get a great pizza by the slice like I do at Pie Eyed. When you order, you can see the full kitchen. Cleanliness is kinda questionable. The main dude taking orders was also making food, and I'll be honest I didn't see him washing his hands between there. There was plenty of seating...a couple random holes in the wall. But this place seems to be a local staple. The delivery guy kept going in and out with non-stop orders. Good on them. Also the pizza by the slices were way too thick. All bread. Personally, I like my pizza by the slices thinner. The whole pies are thin crust. It's a shame their pizza by the slices aren't! Tried Bennys 3 times now, first their pizza by the slice, second chicken parm, and most recently mostaccioli and fried mushrooms. Their slice pizza was pretty decent but that seems to be the only good thing. First off their service isn't the greatest and alittle off putting. The pasta dishes are fine but pretty flavorless. Lastly, I'm very disappointed by the mushroom, one of my favorite items from any pizza place but here they are bland oil-soaked balls with slimy mushrooms inside. In my opinion, a good pizza place should be able to pull all of these meals off. If you are looking for a quick slice of pizza go for it but anything else try elsewhere. read more
