How surprised were we to find a Bennigan's in the area! I even called to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. For you youngins, Bennigan's was a chain with an Irish pub theme started in the 70's. They were all over with a pretty good food and drink menu. Big after work gathering place. Not like in "you aren't wearing enough flare on your uniform", after work type of place, but a "let's get a beer and a burger" kind of place. They still have the burgers but have added some great healthier, tasty choices. My husband had one of those and loved it. I went old school and got their fish and chips. Crispy, flaky, delicious. Don't let it being in a hotel fool you. Most hotel restaurants phone it in because they don't expect to see the customers again. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was great. Taking a walk down.... or over a 30 mile drive down Memory Lane to Bennigan's! Yep, the place that had the claw machine in the entrance to win a prize, Happy Hour on Friday nights with two four one drinks, and the famous Monte Cristo Sandwich. Curiosity got the best of me and I Googled Bennigan's only to find one in Elgin, housed inside the Holiday Inn. While online I registered for their emails..... that was almost a year ago. December brought an email wishing Birthday wishes and a free entree. Bennigan's has changed since our last visit years ago...... this location has more of a Sports Bar theme, with large screen televisions everywhere. We were immediately seated and our server Bri met us immediately when we were seated and took our drink order. For lunch Connie ordered Irishman Whiskey Glazed Burger, I ordered the Monte Cristo. Both entree's arrived within ten minutes, fresh, hot and abundant! The was so much food that looked so good, we immediately decided to share and had half of each entree boxed to take home. The Monte Cristo was as good as we remembered, and the burger and fries were perfect. Our server Bri made sure are Diet Cokes never ran empty and gave us excellent service as well. It was well worth the long ride, that we will gladly make again. In fact, the next time I get the guys together to watch a football or hockey game, we will make the trek up to Elgin and Bennigan's. I ordered a bison burger medium well with no onions to take to hotel room. The burger was not edible. I took 2 bites and threw it away. It was well done on the inside and burnt on the outside. The bacon was greasy. It was just awful! The fries were decent. Service was good though. read more

I'm actually surprised I haven't reviewed this yet. This is not a run-of-the-mill chain restaurant and it's incredible. Monte Cristo is the best there is and everything I've tried on the menu has been insanely good. Never had a bad meal here. One of the best restaurants in the area and there's hardly anyone ever there. Luckily I'm assuming it gets subsidized by the hotel side of the house, because this place is a gem. read more

This restaurant has it going on. It's Saturday night and the special of the night is prime rib. I honestly cannot say that I have ever had a better meal in my life. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and the scallop potatoes were amazing. This is the Bennigan's I remember. Sad to say this is the only remaining Bennigan's in Illinois. I got my old favorite, the monte cristo. It tasted the same way it did 20 years ago. They have all you can eat fish and chips. The fish was delicious! The manager came to our table and greeted and talked to us. I love when management takes the time to interact with customers. The staff was friendly. I will be coming back! I'm praying this restaurant do not close. read more

Advertised as a sports bar I almost passed on Bennigan's. I'm glad I didn't. The sports bar atmosphere was subdued. Though large screens were within eyesight the volume was off on all. So, the atmosphere was comfortable and not so loud you couldn't enjoy your companions. My clam chowder was fantastic with generous clam pieces and and oh so creamy soup. The Caesar salad was okay. As my meal, three mini cheeseburgers atop crispy onion strings were perfect. Service was fantastic--very attentive without being intrusive and always on time with drink refills. read more

I wish I could give negative results. We have been sitting here for 2 hours and a party of all caucasians came after us and was served, ate, and have left. This also happened earlier today!! Oh by the way we are all African American. Update... I will say the manager was sincere in his apology and he decided to clear our check. This is the first time I've ever eaten at Bennigan's, as I usually try to avoid chain restaurants. Since we were using this stop as a way station for Chicago, we didn't want to drive a lot, so we chose to stay at the hotel and try the fare. The reviews seem to be divided between 5 stars and 1 star, which I didn't understand. First, the service. Impeccable. Fast, attentive, accurate, friendly, and seamless. Second, the menu was not too long, not too short, with great descriptions. Third, the food. The roasted Brussels sprouts were the best I've ever had! As the manager said! "A little bacon can go a long way." The whisky glazed chicken was hot and cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were also very good. His full rack of ribs was the perfect size, and easy to eat. His fries were also very well done. Our gin and tonics were served just as we ordered (one tall, one short), and replenished quickly. All in all, we are on the side of the 5 star reviewers, for giving us just what we needed before heading back to our room for the night. read more

I swear I never get a bad food service from Bennigans. They treat you as a family! Whenever my husband and I go there for a dinner, they are super friendly. Immediately the manager recognizes who we are and they come to our table to check up on us. I also like the drink recommendations. They are always upping this game! my family was happy with their food, but my burger was sent back 2 times; i'm not normally the type to complain but i asked for rare and it was well done. the manager was Rosy, and she was super nice about it and made sure i got what i wanted and i wasn't charged for the mistake. i ended up leaving very happy with the meal that i ended up with. read more

First, the staff is amazing ! Always responsive, kind and very considerate of our limited lunch time. We've been choosing this place for our office group to come as they easily accommodate our large group . Most of the food is fabulous--and all seasoning so yummy. Today I tried their new item "Irish whiskey chicken". I couldn't eat much and had it boxed to bring home --see the attached picture. As amazing as their staff is, I'm shocked they went ahead and brought this to the table. I found it to be dry when I was there --but when I turned it over, it was burned beyond edible. When it said "two quartered PCs of chicken " I assumed one dark, one white. Bad to assume. It burned it down to the point that there is barely any to eat. Again, great seasonings and amazing staff. Just went for dessert with my wife. Brownie Bottom Pie, on the menu was the delicious description of, "A Bennigan's classic! A chewy chocolate fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream covered with hot fudge...." this was not even close to anything in the description other it had ice cream. It was a plain chocolate sheet cake, nothing "brownie" like about it.... Not chewy or fudge like. It was light, soft, cake. It wasn't even hot fudge topping, just chocolate sauce. Highly disappointed in the misrepresented of the menu description and the reality. The death by chocolate was a better choice. The server talked me out the bread pudding saying it was too eggy. read more

This restaurant is conveniently colocated with the Holiday Inn which means I was able to pick up takeout without going out into the cold. I called in an order for the entire family and it was ready in 20 min. The host, Eric even called to let us know it was ready for pickup. We went there last night and really enjoyed it. We don't understand why the Bennigans nearer to our house closed. It's a great atmosphere and food was pretty good. Best of all was our server Annie. She was so friendly and attentive and full of energy! I told her I wish this was closer to our house because I would go there more often. More servers should take a lesson from her. I used to go to Bennigan's all the time when they were downtown. This was not the same a real disappointment. My cousin wanted to celebrate her wedding anniversary here. I drove all the way from Chicago. I know for sure I'll never go back. Frozen margaritas watered down. I had the Cajun chicken and shrimp the chicken was dry and the four medium shrimp tasteless the pasta was about two minutes under cooked and the splash of sauce tasteless. The only reason they get 2 stars is because my burger was cooked well, normally deserving of 4 stars by itself, but food quality isn't the only thing that rates a restaurant. Our server was very nice, just inexperienced, like she wasn't trained how to use her time properly, when to visit the table, or basic patron cues like setting the check holder up when it is ready to be paid. You may be saying to yourself, "Hey, this isn't enough to give 2 stars!" and you would be right. My main problem was these posters that they had plastered all over the restaurant for "Fat Fridays Fat Tire Experience" If you didn't know fat tire is an exquisite beer that happens to be one of my personal favorites. How excited I was to walk in, on a Friday, and be a part of "Fat Fridays"! I asked our waitress when she was taking our drink orders what "Fat Fridays" consisted of since the poster, which I have added to their pictures, was very vague. She told me she didn't know and had to go ask a manager. O.K. I thought, let's see what happens. She comes back and says that Bennigans was featured in some sort of magazine or some sort for having Fat Tire and that was why the posters were all over. I said "Great, can I get one?". She had to go ask again. She came back and said they don't carry Fat Tire. What? These posters are all over and I want a Fat Tire! She went to talk to her manager 4, yes 4 separate times all to tell me they don't have it. Yet the manager didn't think it would be appropriate to come over and talk to me his/herself at any point during the meal? Very strange, very stupid. Once I left the restaurant I promptly went to buy Fat Tire at my local grocery store. I will have satisfaction! Order the Monte Cristo - it's seriously world famous. It's a life charger and also a heart attack on a plate. The Monte Cristo is a ham and turkey sandwich with American cheese deep fried in a beer batter. It's dusted with powdered sugar and served with a raspberry jam - it's the ultimate sweet and salty combination. A sandwich of this magnitude could only be enjoyed with a fork and knife as you would prime rib. The oil in the deep fryer must have been super hot because the fries were crispy and my Monte Cristo was beautifully golden. Warning: the Monte Cristo should only be eaten once per year to let your arteries clear up or order it as an appetizer and share it with a group. For only $9, the Monte Cristo is a steal. I would have paid twice the amount easily for the pleasure that I received from it. It's f@#ing amazing. read more
