Five stars seems too low for Bennett's Moving; their job was spectacular! I have experience with Atlas Van Lines (moving to Tri Cities); it was awful. Not only was the move very costly but items were broken and our belongings were packed so poorly in storage we ended up spending a lot more in storage costs. Bennett's was priced so much better and they were so fast (they loaded our 3 BR split-level home into 2 trucks in 5 hours). When packing our home into storage it was efficient and expertly done. We had used them to move into our home in Kingsport and if we, ever, return to Tri Cities we will use them again. read more

We had to get some family members to finish getting the stuff out of our building in the backyard. I am a disabled veteran and I can no longer lift and move stuff like I use to. Payton, Joseph and Triston then carefully wrapped and padded all the furniture like they were valuable antiques. I hired Bennett's to move many precious belongings. I was given a grossly low estimate and was charged three times the original estimate. How many times must FRAGILE be written on a box for it to actually be treated carefully?!! They broke two mirrors and when I wanted the glass in the one on my dresser replaced the woman I spoke with said, "Well, you did have a lot of stuff." It was taken care of at their expense but she was so rude, implying that they didn't have time to be careful. DO NOT HIRE or trust these people. read more

I cannot recommend this moving firm for many reasons. They underestimated by ~50% what needed to be moved, compared with another more recognized firm. In both instances I went from room to room with the company representative and a notebook that listed each room's contents to be moved so nothing would be overlooked. They damaged several pieces in the move and destroyed one piece. They were going to leave several expensive items behind because they could not be fit in the largest truck they had.(My realtor intervened for me.) They gouged the newly finished wood floor dragging items in the new house. They only partially reassembled furniture. In preparation for the move they dropped and smashed a cherished crystal dining room chandelier I had for over 50 years as they started to remove it from the ceiling.. The "technician" explained it was secured by a single wire (it had been up 33 years and installed by a contractor) and showed me the picture, supposedly documenting this. I asked why he didn't take this into account when removing the chandelier. No reason given! His surly response was "Duly noted." But they did conscientiously and meticulously pick up all the scattered, broken pieces and placed them and the destroyed framework in a pre-built shipping container the technician had built and loaded it on the truck, without telling me it would be shipped. How thoughtful! Of course I still had to pay for that container and shipping! There was nothing salvageable of the fixture! Once at my new home I had to dispose of it. That's when I learned how rickety the shipping container was. Not cheap, just rickety. Yes they are cheaper, but in this instance cheaper is an inferior move. My final charge was 25% more than what Mr. Bennett had assured me would be maximum cost. That figure would NOT be exceeded!! Really. I was given no choice when the final bill was computed but to pay then and there at end of move. Or else!! This was a very significant move for me, an elderly, disabled man. I had lived in my home for 33 years. The one consoling event was when the movers first arrived and the van driver told me not to worry, they would take care of my "things" as if they were their own. RUN RUN RUN from this business. They will not back up their claims if they tear something up. They will try and blame everyone or anybody they can instead of taking responsibility for the damage. I would not have given them one star if I could have wrote a review without it. I tried to talk to them in a calm voice, but they got outraged that I quesioned their side of the story. I tried talking calmly to James, the business owner, but he started raising his voice, and then his wife or mother got on the line and starting screaming at me. this is the worst business i have ever dealt with. run as fast as you can with your items. 11 am turned into a no call no show. called various times and kept pushing off the time. by 3pm they were cancelled and another company was used. the absolute worse company ever. they should not be in any moving business. i would never call them to take my garbage to the streets. they will write telling you that they had this and that going on . my appt was for 11 by 12:30 phones were off by 3 pm , not only did i give up but so was the company i used to hire them. do yourself a favor, get someone else. these reviews are the only thing customers have. 4 hours after the appt is absolutely ridiculous. they will tell you that i should have given them a chance, 4 hours after the appt as well as paying in advance is absolutely ludicrous. if i didnt pay in advance, would they have been more accessible to the appointment. i will burn my items before calling this company. i have to give one star so here it is. wish it had an option for zero. read more

Horrible experience! I'll start by saying we'd moved with Bennett a few years ago and had a positive experience. This was the opposite of that and as time passes, it has just gotten worse. What seemed to be bad at the time at the time has turned out to be horrible as we see more and more damage that they did that they covered up. a few highlights 1) the broke they glass to the top of a mid century bar tray and then just put it to the side and didn't mention it 2) they tracked mud and spilled their energy drink all over our carpet in the home we moved out of (on a level where no shoes had been worn up until that time) 3) they knocked holes in the walls, not huge but holes nonetheless 4) they spilled their energy drinks down the side of our leather sofa- not to mention scratched up the sofa 5) when we recently went to lend the sofa to a friend we discovered that they broke every single foot of the sofa and taped them in place 6) while most of the packing itself was pretty good the last 20 boxes or so were just thrown together, not padded, wrapped etc 6) they lost parts to put the furniture back together properly 7) they broke 3 glass top tables 8) the chipped and scraped other furniture 9) they turned our nightstands and jewelry cabinet upside and carried them in such a way that things went missing and we thought we were missing our passports and sets of keys until we unscrewed the back and all of these things fell out 10) they knew there were problems, broken furniture etc and never followed up to make it right. Daughter moved approximately 6 miles , from one side of town to the other. less than 1 full truck load. furniture and boxes. (no appliances, or heavy items, a small safe that the lead guy strapped to a dolly and moved by himself) Everything that needed boxed was boxed and ready to load when they arrived. They wrapped every furniture item even after being told they did not have to, and still scratched the top of a cedar chest that has been in my family for over 100 years., estimated 2-4 hours for the move. Bennett only sent (2) guys(1) smaller very slim guy and (1) smaller guy that looked to be in high school and (1) box truck. The first guy(lead guy) instructed the high school guy in loading dolly, while he folded moving blankets and rearranged the moving blankets and neatly stacked and secured the moving blankets. Lead guy did help with the bigger items that required help to move. However, alot (at least 1-1 1/2 hours) of paid time was wasted on folding moving blankets and picking up wrapping plastic trash inside the moving truck. I did not expect to pay Bennett's guys $100 an hour to fold and stack moving blankets, pick up trash and clean up his moving truck while a high school boy was moving boxes. I ask the lead guy about this and he said it was part of the job. Sorry Bennett, but this time should be paid by you ! I feel I was ripped off in time wasted on cleaning the truck instead of getting the items unloaded. I would not recommend Bennett's Moving service to anyone. read more

I moved from Johnson City, Tennessee, to Baltimore, Maryland on Dec. 22nd, 2021. Through no fault of my own, I had to change the move date twice. Bennetts could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Micah and Jacob arrived on time at my new and old apartments. They did not damage moving my belongings. I had packed china, crystal, and fragile items myself and was worried needlessly that something would be damaged. Both young men worked hard, were kind and respectful. RUN!! They moved me into our new house. Friendly BUT... they put a long scratch in the laminate floor. Instead of informing me, they hid it by placing the couch over top of it. If they would own up and say "I'm sorry, we'll fix it", then I can show consideration. But when they hide it, that's dishonesty. Run. Bennett himself seemed to understand moving. These guys have been great! They worked their butts off, wrapped my things and packed the truck better than I would have done myself. At the end of the day there were things left unfinished, they returned the following day (at my surprise) to finish the job and ultimately do exactly what they said they would do. The owner came out to take a look and give an estimate, and then when it was all said and done we were below budget! Actually, between 2 & 3 stars. Long-distance move: two guys without proper equipment so it took them longer to do their job which resulted in being charged for extra time, sloppy packing (told they would pack hanging clothes in upright clothing boxes but instead folded hanging suits, etc. into regular boxes) + other stuff seemed thrown into boxes (some things were packed fine), didn't put bed frame together properly so bed now sags in middle. Smoky smell on everything so they smoked enough to transfer odor. They forgot they put the hookup hoses to w/d in the dryer so we bought new ones only to find the originals the day after delivery + they didn't level the w&d.... the positives were the 2 guys were pleasant enough (but not professional looking) & nothing seemed to be missing or terribly damaged. One of the guys was on his phone a lot, & the other constantly told him to help - maybe this is also part of the reason they ran over on hours Normally, I wouldn't complain but considering the above issues, it was too expensive & will not use them again. read more

First of all, this is NOTHING towards the two movers who came from Bennett's. They literally worked their butts off, and, were both so kind. And, if I am guessing, they probably didnt even get paid overtime which is a different issue in itself with "Wage and hour". Bennett's quoted me for THREE MEN. Only 2 men showed up to move a 3000+ square foot home. I was charged $300/hr for the first two hours, and then, $115/hr for every hour after that. when questioned, one of the movers which he had no control of being able to do more knocked it down to $90/hr vs $115, but I still paid $150 for the first two hours. Nicole at Bennett's refused to knock anything addl off of this amount. Common sense would tell anyone that it would have taken a third of the time to move our things if we would have had the third person as we were promised. They didnt leave the new house to almost midnight. Also, the bearings from my daughter's bed must have came out some how , and it COMPLETELY RUINED her box springs. Nicole at Bennett's claimed that they were not responsible for any damage. I have moved several times over the years, and will not EVER be using this company again...nor would i recommend them to anyone I know. Also, I would be happy to help those two poor fellas find better employment vs expecting them to work like slaves for this company. I used Bennett's to move some furniture that I purchased in an estate sale. The company running the estate sale recommended them. Since the estate sale was out of town, they wrapped the furniture for us. When they arrived at our place and started unwrapping the glass top of the buffet, I heard glass fall out - there was a chip about one inch long out of the corner of the glass. They had only wrapped it in a single moving blanket. The guys said they didn't see how it could have gotten broken, but isn't it obvious? I contacted the owner, who said he would work with me on replacing it, but since the piece of glass was curved, we decided to sand it down instead. When he arrived here, he looked at the chip and kept saying "you can hardly see that" and was rude. I thought it was pretty ungrateful - instead of insisting that he replace the broken glass, I had offered him an option to fix it that was more convenient for everyone. I couldn't believe he kept running his fingers over jagged glass saying, "you can hardly see that." My husband finally said that we have nieces and nephews who come over to visit, so it needed to be sanded. He sanded the glass in our driveway on a pallet and tried to smooth things over with us by standing in the doorway and yapping for five minutes, listing recommendations to local attractions we didn't want to hear. In the end, I just kept saying "thank you, goodbye" till he got the message and left. The other problem? It turns out they forgot the pegs that held up the shelves in the buffet. We had to replace them ourselves. I'm giving two stars instead of one because the other piece of furniture arrived intact, and because the people who do the scheduling were nice. In Johnson City they were very kind to my elderly friend. Throughout the day they were pleasant and professional. They wrapped the furniture well to prevent any damage. Let me tell you something!! You will not find men who work harder than these guys!! I've hired them twice in the past month. Once to move my family and next to move my business. Their rates could not be beat, and were better than ANY movers in my current city!! They drove from TN to Asheville and still cost us less than other movers. We were definitely not the best packers, and weren't moving everything, but they were absolutely amazing in loading the truck - and even brought ties to help us secure it for our move! The team of four guys showed up right on time (beating the moving truck which was due an hour earlier). They quickly unpacked the truck and were polite and courteous, even dealing with a parts I personally packed (which was, basically, thrown in the back of the trailer). They did a good job but when I called to get an estimate of how long and how much, I was quoted far less than it actually took to move. They estimated 5 hours and it ended up taking 7 so I had to pay around $400 more than I was expecting. This is a huge problem for people on a budget! But, they were very friendly and did a good job so I would probably use them again, being aware that it will cost me more than I expect. read more

We used them to move into a two story house on the top of a mountain with an unbelievably steep driveway. We have a *lot* of really heavy furniture and when the truck wasn't able to make it up our driveway (most people can't) they carried every box, table, bed, couch, etc up a driveway, that is hard to even walk up, without a single complaint. In fact, they were telling the kids jokes and chatting with our helpers as they worked even though they had to be exhausted. They were extremely professional and we were thrilled with their work. We will absolutely give them a call if/when we move again (assuming they're willing to tackle the driveway a second time)! read more

We had many issues with Bennett's. Broken furniture was the major issue (which they tried to hide from us). I hired them for 8 hours, too bad they took a 5-10 minute smoke break every hour. Did not use all of the moving pads provided, so scuffs on a lot of furniture. Damaged our walls, front door, and banister. When Bennett's was contacted about the damage (which they knew about, but were also trying to hide from us) they said they would file an insurance claim. Called to check on the claim and they never filed one. Told us to go through the service we hired them through (thanks for wasting two weeks of our time!). So a terrible moving day, and we even bought them lunch (which they ate on the clock). read more

I had an appointment scheduled for consultation and inventory over a week ago with Bennett's that they scheduled at 1:00 pm on a day of their choosing. On the scheduled day of meeting I took time off work and waiting on them for 2 hours and they never showed up. When they finally called they said they were an hour away from my home and now wouldn't be able to be there until around 6:00 pm for consultation. I explained that this would not fit my schedule and that they would need to come on one of the following days that week. Bennett's said they would call me later in the same day to schedule the new appointment and failed to do so. I reached out to them the next morning and they were unresponsive. I would comment on how the move went but they've not allowed me the opportunity. Highly disappointed, I can be sympathetic to unforeseen circumstances backing up a schedule but when you make an appointment with a customer at least give them the courtesy of a phone call up front to let them know you'll be late. read more
