Michael from 5 Star Benjamin Franklin came out and did exactly what I needed, just some periodic preventative maintenance on a water heater that hadn't had it done before. I wouldn't call the cost cheap, but the price I think was reasonable based on his time and more reasonable than some other quotes I got. He didn't try to upsell me on something I didn't need. Had a sewer blockage a couple weeks ago that Doug was able to clear with a snake. The problem came back on a Saturday and it was a mess. I talked with Monica who was awesome and found a plumber to come out on a Sunday. Doug came back and found the issue which was a metal piece stuck in the sewer line. He was able to cut the pipe, remove the metal piece and put it back together. We now know for sure the issue is completely resolved. I really appreciate the customer service, patience and resolve to make sure the issue got fixed! read more

Sorry, cannot put a zero star for this company. Their plumber, Walter Lincoln, came to diagnose my sewage issues.(According to the company policy, diagnosing is free of charge). Mr. Walter said that he can not diagnose it for free. He stated that he needs to remove my toilette, and diagnose it from there. That could cost me $477. 00, and further diagnosing needed, which means some additional charges. He estimated the cleaning cost of $1442. 00 but could be higher. He rejected to work from my crawling space because he could get wet, he said. He rejected to work from the lateral line in front of my house because he cannot open the plug of it. He said, even he did not try to open it. I proposed to open that for him, but he said he cannot work from it. long story short. This company is probably good for somebody who got no some common sense. Will not recommend them at all. read more

He really put me at ease and was professional, honest, transparent, and simply nice and friendly--he's the kind of guy you want to interface with when cranking out a knock list gor a new home and adding things like a disposal, toilets, etc. I can't say enough about the customer experience side of things...I'm very happy, even spending a small fortune to bring our new (1920s home) place up to code for peace of mind. Matt came and when he saw there was no exterior drain plug became singularly focused on selling a two way clean out for $3470. He showed no interest in unclogging my drain. Through persistent questioning it was determined it could be unclogged, but he had an excuse for every situation. From exploding cast iron to brittle PVC to back pressure, he tried to make a two way clean out the only viable option. When I made it clear I needed the drain unclogged, he conveniently said he only had a 50 foot snake with him, and that would not be long enough to clean the whole drain. When questioned, he said that Ben Franklin did have 100 foot snakes, which also probably wouldn't be long enough (even though I measured it with him) but the shop was conveniently closed at 4:00 in the afternoon. For a company that offers 24 hour emergency service, that set my BS meter off. I called a different plumber who came out with a 150 foot snake and unclogged the drain with no problems. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was only interested in an upsell, not satisfying the actual needs of a customer with a clogged drain. read more

Daniel was my technician he is fantastic, worked hard got it done quickly and by himself. He explained everything let me know when he was coming and going and was very respectful of the house and my sleeping baby. the company itself was very responsive. Prices did seem absurdly high but I've also never paid for a new water heater so maybe it's normal. read more

We had a tankless water heater installed that just does not heat water at times. Other times you need to not turn on the cold to cool the water for washing or the cold will stop coming and you need to start again. We have this company on a service plan for HVAC, electrical and plumbing. They are responsive when you call with a problem but we have had to call with so many problems in all three areas it certainly does not feel worth it. Many times we have had issues we are told that person does not work for us anymore and we will send someone with more experience. I would rather have the jobs done right the first time and not need to have services not working while we wait for them to try and " make it right" read more

Needed a shower diverter replaced when the handle broke . Thought I might as well replace the trim. Sent a request out on Angie's list, THEY called me. Quote very high,( 1100$ with my trim) but wanted it done before the holiday. Demanded payment up front, promised to return 8am. Transferred to call center in Fla. multiple times before they told me I was in an 8 to 12 window. Tech showed up just before 12 and demanded to run my credit card again. He had just told me payment after completion was optional. I attempted to show him the bill with the credit card receipt, proving they had already processed the payment. Refused to explain lateness or itemize bill except in the most gen terms ( 14" access panel 361$). Asked if I could supply my own, I was told it would not change the price. Got a bill 1 hour after the tech left. Called and finally got 'Chris' no last name who claimed to be the owner. He wanted nothing to do with me. Stay away from this company, they prey on elderly homeowners. Bad, dishonest, predatory! read more

I have no complaints about the plumber or his installation of a 50 gallon State Proline water heater. He did his job well. What I do find upsetting is that I have been paying about $22.49 a month for a couple of years for an electrical service contract (Mr. Sparky) that was supposed to also include water heater coverage if I used Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. When the time came that I needed a new water heater, it was supposed to save me $500. Well, the joke was on me. I paid $1,045 for the water heater and installation -- which I can find for $750 to $850 in a big box store. So, installation cost me $200 - $300. There was no savings whatsoever. If anything, the money I paid each month was for nothing. Additionally, I was not left a manual, warranty or invoice. Calls to obtain these have gone unanswered (I was not home during the installation). read more

I used the HomeAdvisor app to schedule a plumbing call from Ben Franklin Plumbing. I got a appointment scheduled for Thursday with the technician scheduled to arrive between 10 AM and 12 PM. I get a call from the office secretary at 11:55 AM to tell me the technician would be 20 minutes late because he had some daycare issues with his child. This was totally unacceptable and unprofessional to give me last minute notification after I had been sitting for two hours waiting. I do not recommend this service please look elsewhere read more

I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and was told that a plumber would arrive today between 2:00 and 6:00. He arrived within those hours and was polite. I needed a replacement of the cartridge in my shower valve and replace the handle mechanism. He told me the charge was going to be just over 400.00. I have to pay him 99.00 just to show up and look at the problem and would have had to pay someone else that amount if I told him no thanks. I asked him why the price was so high and he said they use a "flat rate" book. He was at my home just over 1 hour. I am not happy at all about the price. I recommend that anyone looking for a plumber ask what hourly rate is being charged. If they won't tell you then move on to the next plumber. I do not recommend this company. read more
