I called Benjamin Franklin to replace my garbage disposal and to take a look at my shower head which wasn't operating properly. The technician replaced the garbage disposal with no issues. I thought the price was reasonable. He barely looked at the shower head and told me that he would have to remove the current fixture then possible tear through the wall and that it could possibly cost over $1000 not including the wall repair. I told him no thank you and I got a second opinion. Turned out all I needed to do was turn the knob on the shower head which controls the flow of water. read more

Jordan, Micheal and Kenny are amazing! I reached out on Angi and got a call immediately. They were here in no time. I have a nozzle under my kitchen sink replaced and the guts to a shower/bath combo. They were super. I can't say enough good things about them. Also their work is guaranteed for 2 yrs. If I had known how easy it was to have these things fixed....I would've called sooner. Thanks guys!!!! read more

I had a valve serving a washing machine fail. The needed repair was to replace two valves. The good news is that (1) they showed up on-time (2) I paid a little extra to have the service call on the weekend (3) they did tell me the cost before they did the repairs (4) The repairs were done successfully (5) overall they clearly communicated (6) they provided photos of their completed work. The bad news was the cost, $732 !! There was a non-refundable $198 weekend service charge. The $534 was to replace the hot and cold valves. I don't expect I will call them ever again. read more

I'm JDK from Montevallo, AL and I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to come out and fix a water leak at my home. They came out for $89 service charge and gave me an estimate of $875 to repair one water line! I turned down the estimate and called another plumbing company. They gave me a price of $185 and fixed the pipe in less than one hour. Get a second estimate if you are dealing with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing Co. read more

Sold us a lemon of a water heater that constantly has issues despite being less than two years old. When it does have an issue can take them up to a week to find time to look at it leaving us without hot water. Don't walk, run from this company. As soon as my warranty runs out I'll never use them again. read more

Wasted my time and not sure of technician capability. Spent first day first quoting 850.00 For the job, Then quoted $2500. Because first solution would not work. Then went to $2800 because his wand would not reach the clog. After the full day. Washed a load of clothes, Laundry room flooded along with basement. Came back out and only solution was to replace all the drain lines in the house. read more

They came to perform a yearly plumbing inspection and pointed out that we may need some water treatment equipment due to white deposits around our copper pipe joints. Tech quoted $6500. I filled a out a loan application from Ally and the payments were $388.89/m for 18 months zero interest. Two issues. First issue is after adding up the payments they totaled $7000. What is the extra $500 for? Second issue is the cost of the work for time and materials. They were willing to install this equipment the same day, it would take just a few hours. After discovering what the total cost for the loan would be I looked around to get a idea of the cost of water treatment equipment on line, most were below $500. In closing I'm feeling like this experience was one of those you hear about on the news, senior citizens being preyed upon by predatory contractors. Why does it cost $6500 for equipment and a few feet of copper pipe and a few hours of labor that would cost the average consumer well under $800? I could by several Mac books with this amount. This is clearly gouging, be sure to shop around. read more

Today I had JORDAN do my maintenance inspection. He was awesome!!! He was polite and professional. He was patient and took the time to explain everything to me about my plumbing. I appreciate the time he took with me. He did not pressure me to do any of the work, but explained the consequences of waiting. He was very good. read more

Arrived on time and was very professional, polite and friendly. Due to Covid-19, they wore their masks and shoe coverings inside the house. Very helpful and answered all our questions and concerns. I highly recommend them. read more

Need a plumber? Do NOT call Ben Franklin Plumbing. We have been waiting most of the day for them to arrive to clear a clogged pipe, and just called to check the status of our service call. This is the second time we've had to call today because they never showed up the first time. Now they tell us they don't service our area. Not good, Ben Franklin Plumbing. Not good at all. We will NOT be calling Ben Franklin again. read more

Clogged toilet. $48 just to see the problem. My wife was at home and felt like she had to accept their estimate just because she was already out $50. They spent 15 minutes with a snake and charged an additional $130. We were out nearly $180 for a very simple service that cost them nothing in additional material. My wife felt ripped off and trapped. I will do my best to make sure NO ONE I speak to ever uses their services. UPDATE: Shortly after posting this, management at Ben Franklin Plumbing contacted me to discuss the situation. They seemed genuinely troubled that this pricing was not in accordance with an ongoing special they have had for drain cleaning. We contacted them and they apologized and refunded nearly $80. While I still will probably now invest in an auger (relatively inexpensive as I quickly investigated) and not call another service for a clogged toilet again, this gesture was greatly appreciated and speaks well for the company. It shouldn't have been necessary, but was handled well afterward. read more

The service was great but for a garbage disposal and faucet installation $900 was a bit much.

Hold on to your wallet. Got these guys out to hook up a kitchen sink for me after a remodel. Hooking up the sink was $250, which i felt was high but I needed the sink. The tech then found some additional issues and ended up with a quote of $2,400. I told him I was going to need to get a second estimate and he was super pushy. Wanted me to sign up for a preferred membership and they really wanted to do it that day. I ended up with two other quotes (for the exact same services) right at $700. So what he told me needed to be done was spot on with two other plumbers, but the prices were about $1,700 more. They are able to get to your house quickly, so in a true emergency they are probably your best bet, but please shop around before you hand these guys a ton of money. read more

I had a minor problem - I needed an aerator in my Delta kitchen faucet. Called Benjamin Franklin. The dispatcher said a plumber can only come to do a diagnostic of the entire house plumbing, and that he would have all kind of aerators to chose from as necessary. A plumber came, he did not have any aerators in his truck, turned 2 bolts on my toilet sit, said that I had to go to V&W Supply in person (some 16 miles) to buy the aerator, and that he pre-ordered it for me, and charged me $79 (for diagnostic that did not go any further than measuring water pressure using a remote control device). I asked why he could not bring that aerator, and he said that if he would be getting and installing that aerator, he would have to give 2 year warranty on it, and it will cost more. I went to the shop (V&W Supply in Pelham), picked up what he ordered for me, and it appeared to be male aerator that did not fit my faucet, why I needed a female one (of undetermined size, even at this time)!!! Some great plumber... I called the BF office again and requested to get me a plumber who could at least distinguish between a male and female aerators. Another plumber arrived, agreed with me on that that the aerator had to be female one, called V&W Supplies shop, and the guys said they had one. The plumber said he would pick it up for me and bring it back...... Another 24 hours passed... The plumber was nowhere to find. I called the BF office again. The receptionist first said that they pre-ordered the parts for me (?), I explained again that the aerator was easily available, and that the plumber simply had to pick it up and bring to me. She contacted the plumber and said he would be with me in a few minutes. Another hour passed, no sign of any plumber.... Results: $79 dollars plus $ 8 aerator, and the problem is still there. We have been using this company for about 14 years while they were under umbrella of One Hour Heating and Air+ services, and they were OK. Now, when they are on their own, it's a horror story. Will never use them again. read more

We have always appreciated the work Ben Franklin has done for us over the years. Recently, we had them install a Halo whole house water filter. Wow! We are pleased. We live in Pelham and have lots of limestone in our water and have lime build up on plumbing fixtures (wonder about our bodies!!). We are seeing lime build up disappearing--it's flaking off the shower plumbing and has been easy to remove from other sink fixtures. We recommend it to our neighbors. read more

I had a clogged kitchen sink on a Holiday. I called and they came within the hour! I figured it would cost me an arm and a leg, but the total was only $89! Our hot water heater went out and we called Ben Franklin. I new I needed a new water heater but wanted a expert to make sure it could not be fixed. Their service tech arrived and stayed 6 minutes. Long enough to get my credit card info and attempt to light the pilot light. He also quoted $1,999 for a new water heater to be installed. A 30 gallon one. He then jumped in his painted truck and took off with $49.99 or $8.33 a minute. For nothing. I got a true plumbing company to come out and they installed a new hot water heater a 40 gallon for $1,289. That included taking the old one off. I had used them for commercial issues at several retail stores that is why I called. But I will never use them again anywhere. read more

Have now called them 2 times in the last couple of weeks and have gotten same day service. Their dispatcher gave me a time window (4 hours) for the plumber to be here. The plumber called right at the beginning of that window and arrived at the promised time. Both plumbers were friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Kyle was the plumber that worked on the last 2 issues (leaky pipe in our garage and broken/leaky faucet) and he got right to the problems and fixed them. The price for these repairs was in line with what I expected. I had a good experience with Ben Franklin and would gladly call them again. read more

Arrived early and did not wait. I requested one hour's advance notice before the visit by calling the company. I explained that I would need to leave work and drive home, and that I needed an hour's advance notice. The person who answered the phone was very polite and professional and said this would not be a problem. She took down my office number and my cell number. I was very clear about which was which. At 4:27 pm on April 18, 2018, the technician called on my cell phone. I called him back immediately using my cell. We had a brief conversation during which he introduced himself, and he told me he was at another job and about one hour out. He said he would be at my residence in an hour, but as the call was ending, he said as sort of a friendly goodbye, "we'll see you in a little bit." I reiterated, "Not a little bit. In an hour." He said okay. He was nice, professional. This was at 4:30 pm. I left work despite having several projects I needed to be working on. At 5:14 pm, he called my office (I got the message the next day). According to customer service, he was on-site (I called when I had not heard from him by 8:00 pm). They said he rang the bell, found no one home, and left. Based on his 5:14 pm call to my office he arrived BEFORE 5:14 pm, rang the bell, got no answer, and then made the call to my office. Did he try to call me on my cell phone, which was the same number he had used earlier? No. Did he wait until 5:30 pm, which would have been one hour after our call, as promised? No. I was home at 5:30 pm, and he was not there. I arrived home, and began waiting. I kept checking my phone to see whether I had received a message. There was nothing. I texted and called his number at 7:31 pm and 7:59 pm. No response. Finally, I called Benjamin Franklin after 8:00 pm, having wasted hours. I was told by customer service that he was there at 5:16 pm, which was early. I was told that he called what was my office number and received no response. I asked why he had not called the second number, which was my cell phone, when he received no response to the first. I was told by customer service that he should have tried the second number, and they had no explanation for why he did not. This person was very polite, professional and apologetic. However, I left work and wasted 4 hours. I don't mind that he was early - I just wish he would have waited. Today, I asked my home warranty company to assign me to another plumbing company for warranty services, and they did. read more

I needed a plumber to install a bathtub faucet and needed it done quickly in order to close on the sale of our house. I called Ben Franklin and was informed that they could come that evening and it would be $69 for them to send a tech out to look at the job. I agreed as I needed this done ASAP. When the tech arrived he looked at the old faucet and asked if I'd purchased a new one which I had done that afternoon. He told me he would go out to his truck and get me a quote for the work to be done. When he returned he quoted me $537 to which I had no choice so I had to agree to this ridiculously high price. When he was finished I asked him what the problem was with the old faucet. He said "I don't know, you told me you bought a new one to install". With the price of the new hardware and this exorbitant fee I was out over $800 for a one hour repair. Never will I call them again no matter how how badly I need the service. It's obvious from reading other reviews that I'm not the only customer they've gouged for service and repairs. Do yourself a favor and shop around before calling Ben Franklin plumbing. Your wallet will appreciate it. read more

Jason Nolin came out because a sewer line was clogged at my home in Trussville, Alabama. He said he ran a camera and found a clog. We later found that the camera does not work through sewage and there was no way to see anything. He then said it would be $10,000 to replace the sewage pipe. We called Roto-Rooter and they fixed the problem for $354. The pipes did not need replacing. Stay away from Benjamin he is only interested in taking your Benjamins$$$$. read more

I called this company for an estimate for AC repair. Our central AC capacitor quit working. We were 100% positive the capacitor was the problem (and it was). The local phone number went to a call center out of state. The call center representative was polite but was unfamiliar with our local area. She had difficulty locating our address in their system. The system stated we were in an area approx 30 miles away. After listening to the sales pitch and spending way too much time speaking to the representative, she informed me they did not give estimates. There was no way of speaking to a technician. To speak to a technician, I would have to schedule a service call at $90. He would then give a diagnosis & estimate. I do not have an issue with the $90 service call fee as it is typical for our area. I do have an issue with not being able to get an estimate up front for a known problem. The guy that ended up replacing the capacitor charged $49 plus the service fee. How do I know if One Hour is competitive with pricing? They could have quoted $30 or $300 once they were on site. read more
