Haven't been to a Benihana in sooooo long. I know yelp rating for this place isn't that great but we went and had an excellent dinner. Delicious! Food and service were amazing! We came and left early so the place was a bit quiet.

Ok. This was my first Benihana ever. I've had tons of teppanyaki in Japan but this is not that. This is a fun and chill and a who cares experience. The Wagyu course (yes a touch pricier) was the total worth its upgrade to your course and show. You share a hot table with others unless you're in a big party but guess what. Don't do that. Go with a small group. Share a table. Make friends. Don't expect Japan's finest...just love it. Buyer beware on the cocktail list but hey set your expectations. You'll love it.

I've been going to Benihana for about 20 years now, visiting four different locations and probably dining there around 20 times. The experiences can vary, but tonight was truly one of the best. Not only was the food cooked perfectly, but our server, Mark, was exceptional; hands down the best all-around service I've ever had from a Benihana server. Huge shoutout to him! The chef (whose name I unfortunately don't remember) also did a fantastic job, my Land and Sea (filet mignon and scallops) was cooked to absolute perfection. This location in Monterey has the added bonus of being right on the water, with the beautiful Monterey Wharf just outside to explore afterward. All in all, an amazing experience. Highly recommend this location and if you can, definitely try to get Mark as your server!

It's been awhile since we've been to a Benihana. We went for dinner on a Thursday. No reservation no wait. The service here was impeccable. Very attentive. Our chef was cool and our food was amazing! It's very welcoming and bright. Nice decor.

Celebrating my pre-birthday in Monterey and decided to use my birthday reward at Benihana for lunch. Been here many times before so I know what's it all about with the show and all. We had an awesome waiter Pete who gave us some extras for our lunch. Food was good as always but I think the Monterey location is by far the best.

    Flavorful chicken and vegetables.

Had a great late lunch at Benihana in Monterey this past weekend! The staff was warm, welcoming and attentive, and the food was incredibly flavorful. The experience is always part of the fun--the friendly chef put on an entertaining show with special visual food tricks that brought plenty of smiles to the table. The shrimp appetizer, soup, salad, hibachi chicken (chicken breast and mushrooms grilled with sesame seeds) and chicken fried rice were absolutely delicious, and the green tea ice cream was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. The special sauces are great, too. Took half of the entree home and enjoyed it the next day. Easy parking in the nearby parking lot too. Family friendly, perfect for celebrations and there is even a special elevator to avoid the stairs if needed. Open from Noon to 10 pm - convenient. Highly recommended!

We had the best time once again at Benihana! We came with a party of 10. We were seated right on time and had the most entertaining cook that had everyone laughing and having a great time. The location is the best it is very close to the pier. The food was really good especially the rice.

It's a rare occasion for me to experience a place like this. My party of 4 made a reservation way in advance as the place gets packed for dinner time. Upon arrival, we were sat immediately and given wonderful service. From the front desk person to our server and chef, all were friendly and welcoming. One was charismatic which added to the dinner. We ordered a variety of things which included surf and turf, chicken and more. I loved the show we were given. Fresh ingredients, of course, including a glass of recommended cabernet. I'll definitely remember this place to try more of their food and to experience the hospitality. Come hungry!

I went with my family with a 7:00 reservation, we got seated quickly, appetizers and drinks were delivered soon after, and we had a great conversation time as we waited for our meal. My father and I got the prime rib; our server (unfortunately I cannot recall his name) said they only had a little bit of prime rib left (12oz) but still did what he could so we both could eat. Luckily they did have 2 8oz in stock. The prime rib was amazing, it was so soft, tender, and flavorful with a nice accenting au jus. After such an amazing main course I got the crème brûlée. It was a great desert, the sugar was perfectly torched, a nice golden brown that paired just perfectly with the vanilla crème. Our waiter was so kind and contributed so much to our amazing atmosphere. I loved the old posters, the paintings, and the comforting, warm lighting. Pricy, but worth it. They have happy house Monday to Friday from 4-6 pm . The prime rid sliders is a hit ! We came here on dinner and the earliest reservation we could get was 7:45 pm on a Saturday! We ordered some cocktails and the 10 ounces prime rib cut ! Originally we were going to order some seafood and the prime ribs. However, we got prime ribs only because we love their prime rib so much and would rather stick to the steaks . The prime ribs were medium rare and I asked for more on the rare side . It was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection. We had ordered different cocktails and they were great . Our waiter was very friendly, attentive and check on us often . Parking is hard in this area . We parked in the paid parking lot near by . There were only a few spots available even it was $15 paid parking. The restaurant has a club membership so that you can get priority access to reservations. This time we forget to bring the membership card so we got a 7:45 pm reservation. The steak was overly rare (deep purple in the middle) despite asking for it to be medium. Once we got our food we never saw our server again. We ate the halibut and half the prime rib (each outside) and continued to sit there waiting for the server, for about 20-30mins. We saw the manager talking to other tables nearby. Another server stopped and said it looked like we needed something and we mentioned we haven't seen our server since our food was delivered (and didn't see him at any other table) but we had ordered the lava cake and said if it's ready we will take it to go and if not then cancel the order and will take our bill. The other server walked to the manager talked to them. Then the other server brought us the bill (lava cake on it) and asked if anything else. We said the lava cake to go since it's on the bill. We literally got a "you already said that." We paid the bill, got the lava cake to go and left still without our server coming back. The manager also never checked on us despite us walking right past him when we left. Very disappointed in chart house service. The steak, it happens. But the service was one of the worst we have ever had and is inexcusable. By our server, the other server and the manager. Won't ever go back to this location as there are way better options around.

Saw some reviews and photos on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As my reviews tend to be lengthy let me summarize up front and add the details for those more interested. Service was 5 star, Ambience 4.5 star, and for Food I want to go higher but for reasons I will go into I must stay with 4 star. And because I think the food is the most relevant measurement I chose 4 star. The experience overall was great. We reserved indoor as Monterey can get a bit chilly but once on ground and with outdoor fireplaces and heaters it was the better option. And with a 3.5 yo in tow the outdoor really was the better option. It gave her freedom of movement and the ability to be more of a noisy child than the indoor would permit. Our waitress was attentive and great, the seating by the fire was a bit hard but she brought out blankets that could add warmth or in our case cushion to make them less noticeable. We ordered basic pasta for our child and let me just say the portion would have fed two adult men. Nothing amazing but it was palatable and she enjoyed it. We ordered drinks to include one of their specialties and it was enjoyed. And we started off with an order of the oysters. They were fresh, well presented and offered multiple options to flavor the oysters. For main courses I selected the Hen House homemade pasta with mushrooms and saw you could add scallops for $17.00 and it sounded brilliant. The dish was flavorful, creamy and only surprising in that they delivered one stunning scallop on a side dish. Slightly confused I remarked, "ummm is this the $17 scallop". Which in retrospect I would note I really wanted to see the menu again because I sincerely believe they likely advertised it as a singular "Scallop" which leaves only myself to blame. In all honesty the scallop is probably the second best scallop I have had in my life (Libertine Social in Vegas is hands tied the absolutely best to date). But I digress... I enjoyed the dish, mourned the single scallop and cleaned my plate. We also ordered the Focaccia Bread and butter starter. Let me just say that I love bread, probably more than I should and fresh baked focaccia is at the top of my list. I am accustomed to the outside being a bit crispy but the inside being pure pillowy heaven. They appear to cut them in slices and then bake them or toast them slightly before service. Definitely not a fan of toast, or crunchy bread it was not a high point but again well presented and despite my preference I did eat it with my pasta. Lastly my partner had the Wagyu beef, the description sounded great and the presentation was there but I think there are moments that when you read a menu you envision the finished product and let's just say it felt diminished in my minds eye. Flavors aside it was well cooked and the sides tasted fine. I just felt like I heard that grating voice from the 80s or 90's..."where's the beef". Now I say all of that to provide my view on the overall experience but I would say they are definitely worth the experience but go in knowing it will be a bit pricey. And to be fair if it's beef you are looking for I recall seeing a massive 32ounce porterhouse on the menu. But the price matched its size. In the end it was a strong 4 star experience and "scallop" aside if 4.5 was an option I would probably give it. Just not a 5. Hope this helps and please take note of my photos as they convey my write up. To our waitress, you did great!

You know how hard it is with a toddler and baby. But we also know the importance of bringing them. We were super excited to have an unbelievable steak dining experience. We were in Carmel for two nights and we researched this place to eat at. Upon arriving with our party of 6 everything was smooth. We put our order in and then what felt like over 90 minutes we were asked if we wanted our daughter's burger to come out first. Which we did. After some time there. The A5 Wagyu came out. The stone plate was pretty cool. As a matter of fact, our 3 year old had her first tasting experience with the A5. She absolutely loved it. And so did we! The actual timeline was sit down reservation at 6:15 and first A5 Wagyu to come out was 40 minutes later. Then a total of 90 minutes before our entrees came out. That was the time stamp on our food pics. Finally our order came out which was a porterhouse we ordered to split for two. It had the spinalus, and all the yummy with it! It was incredible. My friend ordered just the spinalus and said it was the best steak he's ever had. The food was definitely A+. What happened next brought the experience down to a 3 star. We paid for our deposit through the chase reserve portal using Tock prior to arriving for dinner. We opted to utilize our points since we saved way more by doing that. We paid a $300 deposit worth points. So in essence we should've received a bill with a minus $300 on it. When we received the bill, it did not have the $300 off from it. So I asked about it and they said they would take care of it. After a very long time, they came back and said they're trying to take care of it. After more time, one of the servers said to me, if I can pay the full price on the receipt and I will receive a refund in a couple of days. So we did. We didn't want to wait any longer. A couple of days later I sent an email and the owner responded with an email from that night that he was taking care of the situation. Apparently, Tock reservations that do not opt to accept points and cash deposits will have a hard time. And since Saltcraft accepts Tock reservations with only cash deposits, I was SOL. A couple days later I was refunded the points back to my account. The food was off the charts! We had a great time devouring the yummy in all those steaks! The servers and people taking care of us were super nice and seemed to care about our experience. Overall, we felt they could've addressed at the end with the time of order till the food came out with apologies. But there was no apologies. They just brought out the food. Then the amount of time not understanding what was going on with the bill. That could've been addressed. After writing an email to the owner, he apologized that their service wasn't timely. "I'm sorry that our leisurely service style for the meal and the lead time for our steak process wasn't a good fit for your family." That was his quote. We wish them good luck and no ill. Things happen and hopefully we all get better from it.

They're seared with duck fat which gives it a great buttery taste, allowing you to taste the fatty flavor on cuts of meat that aren't the most fatty. The fries that go with each steak dish are also really good and go with the steaks. We had the cowgirl ribeye and spinellis steak. They were both good, I personally preferred the cowgirl ribeye since it had more fat. For the other portions of the meal, I really liked the sourdough bread they gave us. It tastes freshly made. The mushroom side that we ordered my husband really liked, but it wasn't my taste since it was a bit oily. The toffee bread pudding we didn't really like-it was too sweet, very small, and not very well presented. The cocktails we had were stellar. We had the paper plane, Rio de Janeiro, and Thai boxer. My favorite was the Rio de Janeiro; I was watching it being made and they squeeze fresh oranges into the drink. It was a good combination of orange juice and cream. The Thai boxer was good, although I did think it was a bit watery. The service was great and we had a lot of good recommendations from the staff. The restaurant had good ambiance and visually pleasing interior design. It's located in a shopping plaza with easily accessible parking as well. Note-if you come for your birthday or special occasion, they don't do anything extra like a dessert.

It's become a running joke in our family that I save up my appetite all year for the bacon-encrusted pork chop with dried apples and sriracha risotto. But jokes aside... it's the truth. This dish is so good that I've been known to pick the bone clean with my teeth, shamelessly. No regrets. The service here is always top-notch--warm, attentive, and genuinely patient with our kids (ages 4 and 6), which is no small feat on New Year's Eve. The food came out quickly, the pacing was spot-on, and the orecchiette pasta for the kids was buttery, cheesy perfection, loaded with parmesan just the way they like it. My wife ordered the smoked beet salad (a bit smokier than she prefers, but still delicious) followed by the mushroom risotto and was completely satisfied. And then there's the ambiance. Montrio feels like it's been pulled straight out of a Humphrey Bogart film--dim lights, piano and jazz floating through the room, hats hanging, time slowing down just enough to remind you why places like this still matter. It's cozy, classic, and effortlessly cool. We skipped dessert only because we always end the night at a local ice cream spot, but we were tempted to linger. We'll absolutely be back again next year. If you're looking to capture the essence of a meal featuring these two plates, here is a review-style breakdown: The Seafood Fettuccine (or Linguine): This plate is a masterclass in coastal comfort. It's a high-piles-of-everything situation that feels genuinely indulgent. The Seafood:The clams and prawns are the stars--tender, sweet, and clearly sourced locally. Unlike many pasta dishes where the seafood feels like an afterthought, here it is the main event. The Sauce: It's a bright chardonnay and lemon butter base. It's silky enough to coat the pasta without making it feel heavy, and the addition of roasted garlic and fresh tomato adds a nice acidic pop to cut through the richness of the shellfish. The Verdict: If you love a classic, "everything but the kitchen sink" seafood pasta, this is a must-order. It's generous, fragrant, and classic Monterey. The Pan-Seared White Fish (Sea Bass/Butterfish) This dish is the move if you want something that feels lighter but still sophisticated. The Texture: The sear on the fish provides a delicate, golden crust that gives way to incredibly moist, flaky meat. It's often paired with a light cream or sake-butter sauce that complements the natural sweetness of the fish. The Sides: The asparagus is consistently grilled to a perfect "snap"--vibrant green and not over-salted. It adds a necessary earthiness to the plate. The Verdict: This is for the diner who appreciates technical precision. It's clean, elegant, and lets the quality of the fish speak for itself. Quick Takeaways The Vibe: The Conservatory room is the place to be. Dining under the glass ceiling with the hanging ferns makes the meal feel like an event. The Service: It's formal without being stuffy. Expect your water glass to never stay empty and the staff to know the wine list inside and out. Pro Tip: If you're a fan of a little extra flavor, the restaurant's legendary cheese bread is the perfect tool for soaking up any leftover sauce from that pasta.
