We were coming to benihana to celebrate valentines day. We live 45 minutes away in regular weather. Our reservation was at 615 pm we called at 602 pm we called and told them we were running late from the storm. and again at 615 and said they're was a 6 car pile up we knew we could get they're at 630. The person who's name at did not get, told us as long as we made it by 640 we were good. Otherwise we were going to cancel and free up the table and stay home. We walked in at 638 pm. We were rudely told by the manager that we needed to sit at the patio but it would all be the same food. I have frequently visited benihana, and sat there, so I didn't need the hibachi experience. As long as the food was the same that was fine. We were greeted by a very angry server who was not helpful at all. She took our orders and the first pieces of the food came out. . We didn't have forks or chopsticks. We had to look for someone to get those. We understand it's valentines day, so that's OK. We get our food, none of the usual sauces. We also didn't get the drink my fiancee ordered. Chris jumped to action and made sure we had the drink. Our food came out ice cold! $98 wagyu and lobster ice cold no sauce, no forks. Mt hibachi chicken was freezing and dry. We were never cheeked on. We have to get up from our cold food to ask for those. Waitress doesn't check on us still. She walked past us i said excuse me could we get our sauces? She runs off and only grabs yum yum she had someone else drop it off. So now the food is even more cold, but we are starving and need to go to our show. Before I continue to eat, I ask for the manager to tell him about my experience and show him my food. I had taken 3 bites. Told him how disappointed we were, but that we were hungry and needed to go. He did offer to remake the food, but at this point we were out of time and frankly patience. I politely declined. He proceeded to have a bad attitude with me and told me it wasn't his issue we were late. I asked to speak to his manager and he was happy to inform me the general manage was there. So that's perfect in my opinion. Because you would expect some courtesy or apologies. He walked up and said I'm not comping your food. Not a single thing implied we wanted our food comped. We ate the cold food because we were hungry and had to go. We wanted to tell him about our experience and how we were treated. I told him I'm not looking for a comp I was looking for an apology. He said why would I apologies to you about your mistake for being late? I told him why would your staff say it's ok have us drive all this way, and it's not OK? To which he replied did you ask to speak to a manager? Why would I need to speak to a manager, when the person who answered the phone said it's ok? He said we'll I made a 10 minute rule, i also took 98% off the calls today so you are lying., OK so why didn't you tell us that? We showed him our call log that we called twice, I guess we were the two percent?He said what do you want me to do here, i said for one speak to me like you care about my business, speak to me like a professional. How are you a gm and acting this way? He doubled down on he's not comping us.. again, never asked for a comp. Maybe because we are people of color he assumed that? He said i won't comp eaten food, I didn't ask you to comp me. I said your other manager offered to remake it and we don't have time and we were starving, at wanted you to know about our experience. He stood up and said and I quote. Whoa whoa whoa, my manager would never do that abs flew off the handle so bad, when he realized the other guests heard him. He said I'm sorry you feel that way, but I'm sorry I did that. I said he's right therre call him over here now. He said I don't have to do anything. So my fiancee said sir we don't have time for you to remake it. Then he realized that he misheard me , i said see you came over here with such a terrible attitude what kind of service is this? He said what would you like me to do? I said first of all be respectful again. At this point you should be apologizing and I don't know , maybe offer a dessert, a drink? an opportunity to make it right? Isn't that your job? Is this how you handle clients? He said I'm not giving you any free drinks, i pointed to him sir I'm drinking ice water, I wasn't literally asking for one i was saying normally when a restaurant makes a mistake they do something to make it right, not berate the paying client.He stood up and said I can get you a free water in such a condescending manner. Of course he could get me that.. that's when the table next to me heard it and said this is unbelievable. I told him he's not professional and he said sorry you feel that way. Again taking no accountability abs basically arguing vs trying to resolve. His statements of scary do you want me to do. Weren't the what can i do to make it right. ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE we made reservations for a party of 12 and when we got there samantha at the door had a terrible attitude from the start and told us they were running late on our reservations and that our party of 12 would be split in half and we would not be near each other nor in the same room. we were told on the phone that they cant sit 12 to a table but we would be in the same room and near one another since it was a group event. samantha proceeded with an attitude telling us she knows her staff would never tell us that because its the weekend and theyre busy. but why would we have made reservations there for a group party knowing we wouldnt be together and we also called to confirmed two days prior and was told we would be together just not all at 1 table . we stayed anyways because we were all dressed up and starving at this point. fast foward to being seated the first 6 of us got seated and was told the other 6 would have to wait 15 mins we were fine we get to the table to see a whole empty table beside us we then asked our server why the other group of us couldn't sit there he said he didn't know and walked off . samantha then came and told us that because we were complaining and hurt the servers feelings she will let our other party sit there. we were so taken back by her continuous attitude and remark. "hurt the servers feelings" absolutely ridiculous to tell paying customers that and how so because we simply asked a question? it gets even better the cook asked samantha to grab chop sticks since she was near by and she told the cook "do i look free to get you chopsticks" and walks off then comes back with a kids training chopsticks like we're all adults so why would we need that smh. finally when the bill comes the server charged us with things we never asked for nor received so CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS . funny part was all we did was look at the bill and the actual server just admitted to us he accidentally charged us with items and he'd take it off so then we double checked and noticed we were charged with multiple wrong items. And i forgot to mention we had to ask the cook to clean the table he was cooking on because it was dirty with the last parties food still on it all in all TERRIBLE TERRIBLE experience and AND I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND NOR COME BACK ! I tell her, "I'm not picky, never been here, so I'm putting my fate in your hands." And folks, let me tell you, those hands are basically magic. McKenna didn't just toss me a menu--she took charge like a boss and suggested the Benihana Trio, paired with the Chili Shrimp Sushi Roll. Now, let me tell you, this combo was the food equivalent of a mic drop. The steak, chicken, and shrimp were all cooked to perfection, and that sushi roll? Absolute fire. I'm talking the kind of meal that makes you question every dining decision you've ever made. Now, I'm not a fancy drinker, so I stuck with iced tea. Kids and I were stoked to come to Benihana as part of our family vacation from another State after the amazing experience at Nickelodeon and the Mall of America. Thought Benihana fried rice, ginger salad dressing and Teppan Yaki for the kids would be a great cherry on top and not were we starving after all the activities. When entered no other guests were present but three employees were at front reception desk. We were told promptly it would be a 5 minute wait. We sat down and waited 10 min before I got up and asked if they were heating the grill, or waiting on a chef or needed more people at which point the receptionist told me they only seat every 30 min. I pointed to the clock showing we were at the 30 min of the hour and she said it would still need to be more time. I asked again if waiting for a chef. By this time, seeing no one doing anything besides giggling amongst themselves, we walked over to noodles and ordered Japanese pan noodles with steak, penne Rosa with Parmesan crusted chicken and zucchini asparagus. Horrible, horrible, horrible!!! Never in my life have I been so embarrassed nor humiliated at a restaurant like I was tonight! To say the least we were a group of 6 with a reservation waited an hour to be seated. Greg the manager couldn't figure out how to split our checks and called security on us because we were getting frustrated about how long the checkout process took. David at the bar is a delight, he definitely a jack of all trades : you can catch him making drinks at the bar, serving customers as well as helping his fellow coworkers. He gives great recommendations and knows the menu like the back of his hands. For the ladies: he is handsome too! Absolutely my favorite location. I have had poor service in the past at other locations but this was by far the most fun and delightful experience. Eric was an excellent host. The last time I came to Benihana, I did not have a good experience. I said I would never come back. 1 year later, I decided to give it a go. Our waitress, Kristine, was amazing . She had a sparkling personality and was very sufficient. The food was good and our chef was fun. Overall, this experience changed my mind, and I will be back. read more
