I have thin, fine, straight hair and have had horrible experiences when attempting to find stylists that can do my hair well. I am a former stylist so I am very fussy about how my hair is done. I read about Ashley via a Google review. The reviewer raved about her highlighting skills and even mentioned she travels from NYC to have Ashley do her hair. I called and scheduled an appointment with Ashley for the week before my son's wedding. Ashley not only rocked my highlights but she cut my hair as if she'd been doing my hair for years. I've never been to an Aveda salon before and was very impressed by the color process, paper foils and steam instead of hot air to process the color. It's very much like how my hair was done while I was in Germany. Ashley has a very calm demeanor and was a pleasure to talk to. Pricing was on par with larger exclusive salons. I've already scheduled my next appointment with Ashley. I'm very pleased with her work.

Anyway, I came to Jessica a few days later and said please help me unfortunately we couldn't lighten it because the other salon over processed it so much and my protein needs to build up. But we were able to make my hair presentable again, and that's what counts! So grateful!!!

Just got my 6th compliment from a stranger on my hair within 3 days of doing it at Shear Decadence…read more This isn't just because Kristen is a great colorist and Heather, Liz, and Rebecca were awesome support and advisors, it's because everyone was willing to co-create an idea I had. First of all, can we take a moment to truly appreciate the genius name of "Shear" Decadence? Genius. Secondly, let me give you context to this review. I've had my hair bleached and colored for a very dark brown to silver, blue, and blonde more than 10 times in the past 4 years in Los Angeles and Dubai. I love expressing myself with my hair color, usually outlandish, and my hair's health is the utmost priority. If you told me I'd find Kristen, Heather, and Liz's knowledge of coloring and bleaching a drive away from my mom's home town of Kilgore, TX, I'd think you didn't know what you were talking about. OK, context given, let's jump into the experience. I LOVE AUTOMATION. The salon is fully set up to take appointments online. There was a small hiccup in that I didn't find "coloring" in the online options, but it was sorted in a 5 minute call that was answered right away. Whoever answered was super sweet (maybe that's just me being new to Texas) and very clear in what was in store. I chose Kristen from the list after I checked her bio on the main website. The salon space itself is welcoming and super clean and super chic without being annoying. I was seen immediately by reception, and Kristen was ready. We spent about 10 minutes talking about what I intended and Kristen walked me through what might be different for me compared to the pictures I showed. I love how often Kristen checked in to how I was feeling as I do avoid asking for things because I'm just funny that way. She was very clear about what services she was starting that would cost more and she was ready for me to say no if I wanted. I never felt pressured and I felt very clear on what was going on. Once the bleaching was done, my hair color, as you can see from the photo, was complicated. There was such a nice vibe of teamwork as different people chimed in and it was really nice to see how open Kristen was to input, especially mine. When the agreed time was going to be extended just because that's life, I was told immediately when Kristen knew. Paying was super easy because my card was on file (automation!), and I could also tip everyone digitally. Super super cool experience in the tiny awesome town of Tyler. Thanks to the team, I have fulfilled my month-long dream of becoming a unicorn

But my hair was absolutely butchered in this salon and people need a fair warning. Mariah was my stylist. Again, she was nice, but the manager Kyra had to hold her hand through the entire process. I'm assuming she's new in the industry. Anyways, I came into the salon for a simple balayage refresh. It was suggested that I lighten more of my hair to achieve my desired look. I did say I didn't want to go to my roots, but I ended up following the managers advice and let them lighten then tone more. This picture is what I was left with, even after a second attempt to fix the color. I was left with several different colors in my hair, a lot of it was orange, all of it was choppy and clunky. A ton of mismatched spots. Completely different colors from top to bottom. Like I said, thankfully I was given a refund. But in full transparency to anyone out there, PLEASE go elsewhere to get anything done to your hair- unless it is a different trusted stylist. I had to go to a different salon to fix the mess (Shoutout to Jessica at the Rage Salon. She fixed my hair and was a total lifesaver) but because my hair was bleached and processed so much at Ulta, I can't lighten it for a while. So now I'm set back on my hair plans, which kinda sucks. Anyway, now you've been warned! Don't make my mistake
