I wanted to like The Rage--I really did. It's so new, light inside, and pretty. It's an Aveda salon, so all the products they use are made from natural ingredients and smell wonderful. Best of all, none of the photos on the website were of awful hairsprayed-to-death helmet hair. I'm not enough of an east Texas native to pull off an unnecessary pouf or the ubiquitous middle-age dome-bob. Luckily, hairdos on The Rage's website looked natural! Like...hair! The problem is, my experience with The Rage just didn't live up to my expectations. Most of the staff is pretty friendly and I loved that they did my eyebrows here without plucking them too thin. They also have some deals where you get a certain amount off for the first few appointments made, too, which is nice. I felt like my facial was a bit too gentle to really get the nasties out. Maybe this is part of the feel-good Aveda aesthetic, but it's not for me. I like my facials to feel like they're really working to get things out, and I don't like the extractions to let up unless I'm starting to hurt. Because they were so gentle, I think there were a few clogged pores that they could have gotten out, but didn't. The real deal-breaker was my haircut. This is a big pet-peeve of mine, but please don't chew gum when you're cutting my hair. That irks me more than anything. Call me paranoid, but one missed chomp and you'll have to take off MUCH more than I want to. Worse yet, I'm not a big layers fan. I like mine really subtle if they're there at all. I have some pieces of hair in my just-past-shoulder-length 'do that are just now growing out to the bottom of my head. That's...not subtle. Not at all. If I still lived over here, I'd go back for eyebrow waxing and to stock up on fabulous-smelling hair goods, but that's really about it. The store really does have it all, and Aveda's "Smooth Infusion" anti-humidity serums are a must-have in sticky icky east Texas. read more

My hair is butchered. We recently moved to the Tyler area from Austin, and I was looking for a local Aveda salon because I've always had such great experiences at the ones in Austin and Dallas. I really wanted this to be a good experience, but it wasn't. I had been growing my hair out a for a while, and I finally decided to get a long bob that I could wear with my wavy/curly hair and occasionally straighten. I brought in four pictures of the same hair cut and showed them to my stylist. When she first cut it while it was wet, the length was perfect. I even told her, "this looks perfect!" But then she had me put my head down while she continued. I thought she was just fixing up uneven spots, but by the time I looked up, I realized what had been done. I was in a state of shock, and I'm a bit of an introvert, so I didn't say anything when I went to pay. I probably should have. I just wish she had paid a little more attention to the photos I showed her. Now my hair is way too short in the back to wear curly, so I'm having to straighten it every day just to get it to stay flat. I had been told that she had curly hair, so I thought she would know how short is too short for curls. Every time I have tried to style my hair since then, I've cried. Beautiful location, kind staff, great prices, but worst hair cut of my life. In her defense, it probably would have been a nice hair cut on someone with straight hair. read more

I thought the salon was really nice and it had a great atmosphere. I walked in without an appointment but they made it seem like I only got in because someone else canceled. So I will make sure to make an appointment next time. I got my hair washed, cut, and blow dried for about 50$ I thought my stylist did a fantastic job. I had several inches taken off my length and I was nervous about not going to short but he cut it exactly the length i wanted. This salon used Aveda products and i loved everything he used on my hair. It smelt amazing. I will definitely be going back here. read more

I had my first appointment at the Rage today with Dalton. Dalton is amazing. I instantly felt great rapport with him, he genuinely listened to what I wanted and very confidently gave me what I asked for. I went in with a horrible cut and worse color; my hair was a disaster! Now I can't stop by a mirror without smiling. I loved Dalton and the miracle he worked on my hair so much that I already made 2 follow up appointments! The ONLY reason I gave this review a 4 instead of a 5 is I was quoted an approximate price of $75 and it was twice that but Dalton himself is a TEN for sure!! The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing and although I may have to lengthen my visits in between due to cost, I have the best color I've had in over 3 years. Dalton did not have to take forever thinking about how to fix my hair, he just knew, did it and it's not only fab, I was in and out within 2 hours! read more

It's a great place. Ashley is the best. Aveda products are amazing and don't damage my hair. The price is decent for Aveda stylists. The natural light is nice, facilities are clean, and atmosphere is friendly. Other Aveda Salons have foot or hand massages while you wait for your color to soak in and a scalp massage before they do anything to your hair. I wish the Rage did stuff like that. My stylist that I've gone to since we moved to Tyler (six years) has stopped doing hair so I was looking over reviews online to find someone new. I have thin, fine, straight hair and have had horrible experiences when attempting to find stylists that can do my hair well. I am a former stylist so I am very fussy about how my hair is done. I read about Ashley via a Google review. The reviewer raved about her highlighting skills and even mentioned she travels from NYC to have Ashley do her hair. I called and scheduled an appointment with Ashley for the week before my son's wedding. Ashley not only rocked my highlights but she cut my hair as if she'd been doing my hair for years. I've never been to an Aveda salon before and was very impressed by the color process, paper foils and steam instead of hot air to process the color. It's very much like how my hair was done while I was in Germany. Ashley has a very calm demeanor and was a pleasure to talk to. Pricing was on par with larger exclusive salons. I've already scheduled my next appointment with Ashley. I'm very pleased with her work. read more

Building is beautiful, staff is lame. The staff behaves as if they are volunteers at a summer camp. They sell Aveda products, and yet house no person knowledgeable about Aveda products at the front lobby to sell them... Their prices are over the top as well, when you compare them to other retailers and measure the quality of their service. Way over the top. read more

I'm not sure what happened. I contacted the salon via email and asked for a recommendation for a stylist that can cut voluminous, short hair, read reviews for this salon, took photos, talked with the stylist in length prior to getting started, told her what I wanted, wasn't unreasonable, asked for input and she even commented that my hair is really thick so we need to be careful how we cut it. She cut a bob at the top at back and left the neck line long, there was separation at my ears that she did not even put the scissors to, nor my bangs, but, boy she can style. She was all prepped like a doctor for the blow dry. It looked fabulous when I left and terrible when I got home. I contacted management about my experience and never received a response. Here is something I learned, if your stylist's hair doesn't look good, neither will yours. read more

I went hoping for a new age hair cut. I like edgy styles... I asked touching the collar bone and to keep the length long in the back. Needless to say I ended up with a barely touching the chin!!!
