Miss Alana and Mr. Mel have been such a blessing to our family. We searched Bend for the best…read morepreschool and could not have found a better learning environment for our son. Our son is thriving and learning so much. We began the year with expectations of a preschool environment and Miss Alana has far exceeded them. The curriculum, communication and structure of the preschool are so well organized. Miss Alana's Preschool is such an amazing environment for learning and a few things have stood out to us this past year: -Weekly email updates and schedules for parents -Conferences to update parents on each individual child's progress -Dual language learning -Planned curriculum such as learning about a new country and letter each week, yoga, STEM activities, art and skill based activities like painting, drawing, using scissors and writing names -Programs throughout the year like a Christmas concert, holiday parties, Easter egg hunt and graduation -Special visits from the dentist, sheriff, pen pal, etc. -Secure entrance for parents -HUGE backyard for a lot of outdoor structured playtime While looking for a preschool, we expected a structured environment, however, the greatest surprise for us has been the commitment to social emotional development and Miss Alana's passion for teaching. We find this part most important in preparing our son for elementary school while also reinforcing our home life experiences. Our son loves going to preschool and is excited for Monday to come around so he can see his friends, teachers, learn, explore and play. When we pick him up, he is always asking to stay "just one more minute." Miss Alana and Mr. Mel are more then his preschool teachers, they have become like a second family. We feel safe and secure in dropping him off everyday and love watching him learn and grow. We cannot recommend Miss Alana's Preschool enough to friends who are looking for a preschool. Thank you Miss Alana and Mr. Mel for all you do to create the best preschool environment possible.

There are not enough words to express how WONDERFUL Miss Alana and Mr. Mel are! If you are looking…read morefor a top-notch preschool, this is it. We had heard of Miss Alana's preschool through word of mouth from three separate sets of friends. When it came time for our oldest to enter preschool, we were thrilled to snag a full time spot for her. Through her year with Miss Alana, she thrived. The curriculum takes on a world-view, with classwork units based on a country (as a middle school Social Studies teacher, this was an added bonus). During a 2-3 week unit on a a country, students are immersed in the language of the country, traditional folktales, how to count in that language and in English, art activities that stress letter sounds and recognition, as well as counting and sorting skills. Our daughter came home every night excited to tell us about her day, what she learned, and how much fun she was having with her friends. Along with the incredible academics, students learn social-emotional skills, like how to deal with conflict, sharing, hygiene, routines, and free play through imagination. Miss Alana's preschool has the perfect set-up for students to let their imaginations soar, inside with their kitchen and toys, and with the many outside structures for students to run around, play on, and pretend they are on a plane to Argentina with. My daughter especially liked the garden that students helped with and being able to play in the sprinklers in the summer time. They consistently highlight the strengths of their students and work with them on their less strong skills. Miss Alana and Mr. Mel go out of their way to make the preschool experience special and meaningful for every child. They put on a holiday program every year, an annual Easter Egg hunt, and a summer BBQ and Graduation Ceremony for students who will be entering Kindergarten. Weekly emails are sent out that outlines what students will be learning and the activities they will accomplish. Pictures are routinely sent through text, and updates on your child if you request are sent throughout the day. Miss Alana also sets up conferences with families that documents progress from the beginning to the end of the year. Having this data available before our oldest went into Kindergarten was extremely valuable, as we were able to share this information with her new teacher. Miss Alana noticed strategies and behaviors in our daughter that we did not see, and could have held her back. We managed to overcome these in Kindergarten and our daughter was more than prepared to be successful. In fact, three of our daughter's classmates from Miss Alana's ended up in the same Kindergarten class and all four of them are doing extremely well, academically and socially. Miss Alana and Mr. Mel are now teaching our second daughter, as well as our nephew, in their first year of preschool, and we are continually impressed with everything this school accomplishes. When it comes time for our son to enter preschool, he will be attending as well. They go beyond being teachers and have become a part of our family.

One of the worst places you can send your kids they do not read the charts and take kids that they…read morecan't handle they put kids throw degrading and abusive and strip them of there rights honestly this place needs to be shut down and the authorities call on them. when I was there I was crying and screaming in pain for days had a fever and it still took 3 days for them to get me to the emergency room then to another doctor where I figured a kidney infection they force us to talk about are tram and why we are there in front for all the other students and tell them a story about the reason we need treatment and if it's not good enough and we don't pass we can move up a number which means we can't leave the premises or call our parents all so I was there for sexual and was only there for a month before they kicked me out for having symptoms of sexual abuse trauma which they knew I had it and told me if they could help me with those I spent $8000 getting out there to be there for less than a month for them to kick me out for said they could help me with this place is bull shit it's a trap don't do it.

There's a lot more to say. I'd like to mention the isolation students would be forced into for…read moreweeks at a time. They would be kept in a separate room alone and staff would bring a meal to them. How does that not negatively impact the developing brain of a teenager? What about HR? I personally spent up to six days at a time on HR. When on HR we would have to be silent all day and stand away from the group. During meals we would get our meal last and sit at a separate table facing the wall. In total I probably spent two plus months of my time there in silence. That's nothing compared to some of the other girls who were on HR for longer periods of time more often than myself. There were no therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist or counselors. How could one call themselves a therapeutic boarding school when no one on the staff is licensed or certified? You lied to and manipulated parents. Rick Odell told my dad that I couldn't survive on my own and I won't make it without them. He also told me that he was going to get custody of me past my 18th birthday and keep me there as long as he saw fit. All that mattered was keeping students there as long as possible to make the most money. I remember all these activities that were promised upon admission. Then when it came time to do something that cost money we were told that the academy can't afford it. So that snowboarding that was always talked about to my dad... I think I only went 2 or 3 times in the three winters I was spent there. I of course went more when my dad came to visit but like I said the times the academy paid for with the other students, yeah that only happened a few times. Oh and the equine program, that cost extra to participate in. I should also talk about the pathways program. I can't even count all the times we ran out of food and when we called to ask to get taken grocery shopping we were told they didn't have the staffing for it. So my mom would have to order food and have it delivered to the house for myself and other students. So the money my parents paid wasn't enough to ensure I could eat? I should have called CPS. What about the $25 a week grocery budget given to us. $25 for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week. How is that enough? And we couldn't just go to the academy to eat because again, no staffing to pick us up so we could eat at campus. We had no money because pathways wasn't given an allowance for some reason so we couldn't just go to the store and buy food ourselves. Was this your way of maintaining control? We are slowly waking up and acknowledging the abuse we suffered at your hands. And we will no longer be silent. You can't force me to sit in silence for days at a time anymore. I will keep talking.
