As a student of Waldorf back in when I was in 3rd grade when we first moved to Bend Oregon, I an attest that this school significantly lowered mine and my sisters academic ability. So much so that when we moved back to public school (more specifically to Buckingham, a fantastic IB league school that actually teaches your children) they recommended that my sister and I repeat a year as we were so far behind. Do not send your children to this place. Childrens academics should not be geared towards how to be more at peace with themselves and nature, it should be the very groundwork's of math, science, English, you know... things that would positively impact their adult lives. read more

Great school and great community. The teachers care so much about the kids and their whole being. They genuinely love being their and what your child to thrive. They have a very holistic approach to teaching and include lots of hands, in-depth teaching. I would also highly recommend if your child has had a hard time in public school or needs extra attention. They have the teacher to student ratio to give each child the attention and love they need to succeed. read more

Don't enroll here. My son was alone, taking his second nap of the day for half the school year. And this is after I told them his doctor said naps are not good for 5 year olds. They are a money making machine. After spending $1500 a month, they trap you and put you on the spot to give more money or volunteer. They have "mandatory" parent meetings where they are just looking for more money or volunteers. I should have just found somewhere else to send my child after we were signed up for summer school and they fired the entire administration staff a week before it was supposed to begin, so a lot of parents had to adjust to not having childcare. It's also not a fully accredited Waldorf school which I didn't know until already enrolled. read more

I want to preface this comment by saying that I am sorry I never came forward earlier with this information and that this is not a comment on the parents and children of this school. I also have had no previous experience working for other districts but my mother has been working at her school district for 10+ years and found everything I shared equally upsetting. I know everyone will do their best to give the best opportunity for their children, but you should be informed that in my brief time spent at this school, I found much of it to be out of the ordinary compared to traditional school districts. While I understand this is the draw for this particular school I was surrounded by a culture of secrecy, terrible health conditions where children remained in school and ate from dishes where a dead rodent was rotting behind the dishwasher during an infestation, and blatant classist comments against children on government support. Children were reaching the end of second grade with the reading comprehension of a first grader due to no fault of their own or lack of help. And, while I understand a restriction of media in a school setting, the absolute ban of it removed vital culture and social connection with peers and there were even several instances where when music was playing/someone mentioned a character children recoiled and cried until it was over as if afraid. It wasn't until I was asked to complete Waldorf-specific training that I realized the patterns of quiet indoctrination often seen in cults to ensure a "us vs them" mentality in students, and while struggling w diversity as a whole, used black figures such as MLK and Harriet Tubman as tokens in their spiritual conversations. It was incredibly disturbing to see this and though I was not in daily classes, in those I assisted there were so many points of learning stolen in the name of 'preserving childhood' that only would further distance themselves from their public AND private school peers from other districts. If you are from an outside district: unless you are trained and indoctrinated into their small group of selected teachers you will have no say in anything occurring or even be privy to an opinion. While I don't know if this is related after making strong comments about needing basic/better safety procedures during lockdowns, despite being technically a lead, I was never invited to another staff meeting again. read more

Love Waldorf School! My granddaughter is a very smart and overly sensitive. She is respected and cared for in a warm and loving environment.

A beautiful environment that enlightens the mind, body, heart and soul. A few years back when we moved to Bend, I was seeking a preschool for my son. I was somewhat familiar with Waldorfs from when we looked at preschools for our oldest child but Waldorf was over an hour drive one way from our home. When moving to Bend - I researched and toured so many local option but Waldorf School of Bend (WSB) I knew was it for us from the start of the tour. Fast forward into spring our first year here, we pulled our daughter from one of the best public elementary schools in Bend and she started at WSB. This move for our family was one of the biggest blessings especially for our oldest who was being bullied. Our experience with public school was broken on the district/state level. Her specific teacher was never the challenge but policy was. We now have have children that are engaged in their learning, children that want to go to school and share what they've learned and accomplish. We have an environment where if there is a challenge it can be discussed, addressed and allows for movement forward. We have an environment that is meet with so much love, light and grace. I work for a local non-profit in Bend and we had the students out to volunteer at the local food bank, sorting carrots for food pantries. The group students and teachers at The Waldorf School of Bend sorted and bagged over a ton of carrots in their short time volunteering. It is incredible to see the hands on learning opportunities available to the students. They worked hard, were polite and engaged.
