It looses a star as the shop is pretty teeny, so can't fit enough of my future shoes-to-be BUT it is sooo mush more relaxing than fighting your way through the crowds in the flag-ship-shoeland on Carnaby Street. I will be happy to suggest meeting my boyfriend in Shoreditch after work if this means I can window shop here on the way!!

I want to give 1 star based on service…read more Young staff was busy chatting with the other coworker, I had to ask for service ... eventually there was an additional staff that was just there for security. He was just hovering over me so it was annoying that I'm trying on Adidas NMDs and did he really think i might try to steal a pair? I look old enough not to be stealing in a store like that. Regardless, i was unhappy with their sales staff who was BSing his way. I picked up a pair of NMD i wanted to try, only to figure out it was a men's line. I asked for US 7 and when he brought it to me, it was a 7 alright but a MEN's!!! He's an idiot. I asked him if they were men's because they are way too big. He said they are unisex, so i told him then I need a men's 5. Then he came back to say they only have a 6 ... and i thought to myself, you idiot that's why it's a men's series and doesn't come in a 5. His consolation is that he can check online for a 5, i told him I'm only in the city for 2 days and not interested. He didn't try to sway me to check other colours, sizing. I had to repeat myself for a different colour in a women's sizing. Dude, don't BS me as I've bought kid size Jordan's since I was 15 and men's when they have a small enough size for my women's US 7 feet when I want the men's colourway. Disappointed at their service for a kick ass store like that. Merchandise - great variety i want to give it 4 stars!

Shoe store blissssssss!…read more I had about 15 minutes to spare on a recent Friday near Spitalfields, and was summoned to Author by the "20% off all full-price items" sign + balloons. I mean, even the most priciest of shoes discounted by 20 percent means "yay" right? Yes. Well, I didn't end up with that discount -- but I did find 2 (yes, TWO!) pairs of ankle boots on the sale rack. God bless having a weird size and a penchant for boots I can walk around London in. Score, score! One black and one brown, both fabulous and already marked down by about 25 percent to speed their exit. I'd been looking for ages to replace my Berlin flea market finds (RIP) -- and finally, I've got my upgrades. Worth the wait. The sales girls were VERY helpful, quite nice, not pushy and very accommodating. Unexpected and delightful. I walked out 2 bags heavier and a very happy woman. From the outside this looks like a posh joint, but don't be fooled -- there is something for the savviest of shoe shoppers as well, and the fancy stuff isn't overpriced. They specialize in stylish/comfortable footwear, with a few oddities thrown in for good measure. I won't hesitate to stop into their other locations when out and about, and I will surely be making the Spitalfields outpost a regular on my rotation. *as Caren H mentioned, no Amex. All other cards accepted.
Author may well be my favourite chain shoe shop ever. They have locations in Covent Garden,…read moreLeicester Sq, Camden Town, Spitalfields, etc.... all over. The shoes are a range of prices from, well, pricey, to completely affordable. I've found all the sales staff at multiple locations to be very friendly and helpful, often offering to call other branches if they lack a size you need (which, sadly, seems to often be the case... stocks aren't huge, especially during sale time. Which is the only downsize... They will advertise a huge sale, but then only have shoes in tiny and huge sizes. Alas, the plight of the averagely-footed woman, but I digress from my first world problems). The style is eclectic, but you won't find casual sneakers or uber slutty heels here. Think espadrilles, unique heels, spanish leather sandals, oxfords... good men's selection of stylish casual shoes as well. Yes, stylish casual... I'd say that is the theme here. Shoes that would go well in an Anthropologie store, basically.

He was so friendly and helped us from the very beginning. The store had basically any size you needed, but only sold a couple of styles. I bought the Black Fine Haircell Boot from Dr. Martens here for 89 Euros and the 8 Eye Derby Boot from Solivar for also 89 Euros. Everything you buy here is affordable and at a reasonable price for these brands. Definitely advise you coming here if you are looking for cheap and popular brand name shoes!

The store has an amazing selection of Solovair and DMs. Worth a visit! Two notes: 1. It's cash only, no card or Apple Pay 2. I made a trip all the way across London on Tuesday morning only to find that they are not open Tuesday at all. Their hours are Thursday through Saturday 12-5, according to the sign on their shuttered storefront. Honestly, how difficult is it to keep your hours on Yelp up to date? That trip across London wasted 90 minutes.

With this thought in mind, I suggested we visit Grenson's newly opened shop in Spitalfields. Whilst a larger space than the Liverpool Street outpost, they had a smaller selection here. For more classic options that store may be a better bet. Still, the man minding the shop here on Hanbury Street was helpful to my shoe-buying companion, answering his various questions and fetching different sizes. I was prepared for an exhaustive search but the bloke made his mind up on the Tom style in tan in nearly no time at all. The good news for ladies: I got confirmation today that a number of the men's offerings will be available in women's sizes come fall. I'm pretty much holding my breath and trying not to burst with excitement in the meantime; at the moment there's nothing for us here.
