Ambled into the Garth, after seeking a dinner recommendation from the gal at the info centre in…read moreGrantown-On-Spey. This lovely looking gem is located at one end of the high street, and made me wish I had booked my accommodation here instead of a B&B at the opposite end of town. As I walked in, several gents who were behind me, asked if I was from the AA (I trust they meant Automobile Association and NOT Alcoholics Anonymous!!). I must have had a "no-nonsense" vibe going on ..... Passed a lovely 1/2 hour in the bar -all by ourselves- with heavenly sunshine streaming in. We "discovered" Bellhaven's Best to our delight. The time was most pleasant, marred only slightly by the weird radio station playing whiny country & western music in the background.... Not that I was expecting bagpipes, fiddle music, jigs & reels mind you.., its just that I didn't expect to find Elvis, Roy Orbison & Tammy Wynette alive & well in the CairnGorums! The dining room decor is very classy & wonderfully appointed: tartan wall paper, stag horn wall sconces, dark wood tables & large comfy chairs, etc. It was obvious that this place was popular with locals as well. The meal was very good: piping hot carrot coriander soup, followed by the lamb with chili & mint sauce with mashed potatoes for him & the chicken breast stuffed with haggis on a bed of mashed potatoes for her, accompanied by a large side dish of veggies (boiled potato, cauliflower, green beans & carrots). We decided to follow it with a yummy selection of Scottish cheeses & biscuits (& a handful of rather sad grapes -perhaps a couple of nice crisp apples would have been a better alternative?) All this was washed down with a big red juicy Barolo. We strolled back down the high street: warm, full & happy! All in all -a very good experience.:)!

Still feeling out the hotel. A bit lacking on the hospitality…read more For the good... it was a quaint little hotel with olde charm feel. Near gramtown and a cute little area. The problem was it just seemed old and not much else. Wouldn't let us check in till 3 pm even though it seemed it was ready before that. came in for dinner and literally got stared at by two hostesses for 10 min Then waited for wife to return from water closet before coming over. Lacking a little on service and friendliness. They didn't come by all that much even though it wasn't busy. The food was lacking. I got the venison haunch and it was more of a venison sirloin and it was over cooked and not too tasty. Other than being cute the only other highlight was the bar. The bartender was cool and friendly. And only reason I gave an extra stars. Also had a decent whisky selection but not enough being so close to speyside and all the amazing distilleries. Should offer a whisky flight! Dinner and breakfast times were very limited for some reason. The room was super noisy and creaky floors. The neighbors sounded like they were in the room. The carpet and decor were right out of the 60s. Seemed like an elderly home and not the quaint hotel it could be. Really needs a makeover. No parking. Just in the driveway. Watch out for old grannies in their Mercedes not knowing how to park. Ugh! I'd recommend staying somewhere else

So this hotel is the cutest thing ever! It's old with creaky floors, but charming as hell. They…read morehave a restaurant downstairs that served really great food- and the staff was super friendly. The wifi was crap- but I was willing to trade that for the comfortable and clean room. The town itself was also super charming. Highly recommend!
