Belmont Park brings back fond memories of my childhood. Back when summer meant you were guaranteed more than one day of sun, not too much rain, and decent temperatures. And park-attending several times a week. Boy, am I glad I'm not a child / parent in these wet summers that have become in norm in Northern Ireland in recent years...
As well as general green space, trees, flowers, paths and a couple of random looking wooden figures, there's a play park that is a firm favourite with mums across East Belfast. It's not the biggest play area, but there's enough to keep little 'uns entertained, plus the ground is covered in dark wood chippings that provide a safe surface to fall onto (though I wouldn't recommend it...). As Paula mentioned, it's well enclosed by a brick wall, which hopefully means safer kiddies and happier, more relaxed parents.
The park is actually much bigger than you would think. The main entrance is off the Cairnburn Road, but there is also one on the Old Belmont Road, and the park extends from this latter carpark right the way over the flyover at Parkway towards Circular Road.
The only downside to Belmont Park is the lack of toilet facilities, which anyone with small children will know is vital. Apart from that (and I'm probably ignorant, not being a mum myself), Belmont is one of the best parks in Belfast. read more
