On a good day, or even on a grey day, it's lovely here. It used to have a bad reputation, as some parks do, for undesirable activity after dark, but as I've only ever visited during the day, I couldn't possibly comment! But we bring our dog here quite often, and it's a great place for a walk. It's nestled along the seafront of Belfast Lough, with a little beach to walk along at low tide, and sloping landscaped lawns for picnicking or just chilling out and reading a book in the sunshine - yes, I know that doesn't happen often in Belfast, maybe once a decade!
There are lots of benches scattered throughout the park if you want to take a break from walking, (or if you are a pensioner and want to rest your bunions!) and various routes to take around the park if you fancy a change of scene. Most dog walkers here keep thier dogs on a lead, and are fastidious about picking up any 'leavings' - there should be more 'doggy bins' available throughout the park I feel.
The park is also linked to the NI Cycle Route so you do get the occasional cyclist blasting through the pathways, but it's never a problem if they ring thier bell! There is a playground near the car park which is safe and well-equipped as well as public toilets and picnic tables. On a good day in Belfast - it's a good choice for a day in the fresh air. read more
