We were in town for a Saturday of getting out of Memphis. We like to get out and explore West Tennessee from time to time. Stopped in for lunch. Burgers were tasty. Cheesy tots were topped with slices of American cheese. Not what I was expecting. But the chocolate shake was delicious! read more

Stopped by for lunch recently and had a cheeseburger and fries- couldn't leave without one of their milkshakes- the caramel one!!! This place is a great example of a simpler time- I watched as an employee went outside to take the order of an older couple who looked like they were having to struggle to get out of the vehicle. I would be willing to make a 5 hour drive to Henderson from STL to have a burger here if someone told me to meet them here. As a Jackson native, I didn't really get to make it down here as much when I was living there. It wasn't until after I came home from college that I experienced my first Bell's burger. They are deliciously sinful. So moist, juicy, tender and filling. Greasy yes! But it adds character. This place as been around for as long as my parents have been around. I refuse to get anything else but the burger, so I can't really review on anything other that with the accompaniment of a handmade milkshake and fries. Went to Bells after a day at Freed and it was great! The service was great - the girls were all very nice and friendly. The food was great and they took great care of us. Grew up my whole life eating here not sure why I never reviewed it. I love everything about bells. It's old school and delicious. Definitely get a hot fudge cake. My favorite is the ham and cheese sandwich and onion rings they have great chili cheese fries and tots too. Wish I lived closer still so I could enjoy it more often. It's seat your self. Not actually a drive in. There motto is "Best Burgers this side of Heaven" and it is true. Plus they are reasonably priced, actually cheap. I had their chicken sandwich which was also awesome. I wanted to have a salad I hear they are huge, but not a fan of iceberg lettuce which is mostly water and no nutritional content. so refrained from the salad. There shakes and ice cream products are great as well. It is sit yourself and they look at you funny if you do not order fries or a drink. Also the wait staff is not friendly like you would expect the south to me. Good not nutritious food. Right down the street and within walking distance to Freed Hardeman University. Best burger not just in town but all around. I grew up on their burgers and shakes. The best basic burger you will ever eat. No fancy toppings needed here. I've been to all 50 states and had burgers in almost all of them. Some have fancy toppings, delicious sauce, and/or a tasty bun but the meat and simple toppings make the burger and Bell's has the best. It is cash only and you must have a shake. Great hamburger. If you want service with an attitude, this is the place for you. Bad attitude, that is. I came in with high expectations because a cousin said it had the best hamburger in West Tennessee. As soon as I sat down, I immediately ripped the leg of my new pants on a nail sticking out of one of the booths. When I immediately told the server, she noted it, and acted like it was no big deal. I was with cousins so didn't want to make a scene, but at the checkout, I asked to see the owner. I was informed she had cancer and was not there. So then, I asked to see the Manager. Our server turned out to be the Manager. She seemed put out when I expressed my concern that nothing was done and my new pants were ripped. She immediately comped my $5.00 hamburger. I still paid for it even though she seemed put out with me. Overall, the experience was insulting at best. Others have mentioned it is dirty and greasy. I agree. Our hamburgers were good, but one cousin got the tater tots and would not eat them because they tasted freezer burned and were barely done. I gave this a "3" because of my hamburger, but overall would not go back.This place has a good burger, but poor management overall. Would not go back if there was anywhere else to go. read more
