We pulled up after a long day of speed-walking through the ruins of Pompeii, hot, sweaty and a bit dusty, to be seated at these really pretty yet somehow cramped tables. The setup was nice and the staff was friendly. They made it a point of making an announcement ahead of every bottle they poured, but we were spread out and the waters' voices didn't really carry. We were greeted with a bubbly and individual charcuterie boards, with more meats than cheeses. The main was a small serving of big tubed pasta (like rigatoni, but bigger...a *bigatoni*, if you will...ha, see what I did there? BIGatoni. Hey, where are you going) in a red sauce. The pasta was super al dente, even by Italy's standards. The sauce was zesty and a little loose. Dessert was a kind of trifle, with fresh fruit and sweet cream in a jar. Each course was paired with a wine, naturally. The wines were good and flavorful, and everyone at the table enjoyed the pairings. We were given a bit of time once the meal was finished to walk the grounds, and I can see how this property would be popular for parties, galas and weddings.

The property is scenic and overall gorgeous... offering a waterfall cascading into a pool, many terraces with seating, and almost every part of the grounds offer great views of the beach/sea. Once you get down to the beach, this resort is located near the end. Worth checking out the small cave. Otherwise you can walk a couple kilometers along the sand to the other end, where there is a public beach. I prefer lounging in the sand or playing in the water, however there are many sun chairs to lounge in while you soak up the sun. The breakfast buffet served daily was delicious. A large selection of pastries, cheeses, cured meats, fruit, fresh squeezed juices, cereals, and also a hot food option (just order through one of the many kind staff members). Did not eat any other meals during our stay at this property but did enjoy apertivi on one of the terraces. Highly recommend this place. Quality service, paradise like oasis, and perfectly located between the towns of Sperlonga and Gaeta to enjoy exploring both areas. **if wedding venue planning, recommend checking this place out. A wedding occurred during one night of our stay. The staff decorated the grounds beautifully for the reception and neither our stay or the wedding party was disrupted by one another.

The staff remembered us right away and treated us like family, and our boys had the best time exploring the grotto, which they said reminded them of Pirates of the Caribbean, and swimming in the pool. They are steps away from one of the best features on Ischia, Sorgento, where we spent a whole day swimming in the Sea and floating in the naturally thermal pools. We were married in Ischia, and we will be coming back a year from now to celebrate... we haven't even left yet and we miss it already!!

This place was a bit old school as mentioned by others since it was built in the 1950s, but the decor and architecture gives it a nostalgic, classic feel with a bit of charm. Looking through the guest book it was really cool to see past celebrities that had stayed here. I had to laugh when I saw Van Damme posing in the hotel lobby. They really did a wonderful job catering to us since we had a huge group and were probably paying a pretty penny, but I can give a few highlights that stood out: - Outdoor heated pool is incredible with a fairy-tale backdrop. It's basically an overflowing pool on an outdoor deck near a bar with the island of ischia and some of naples in the distance. I'll post a picture but it's really beautful. - Service is outstanding. If you have issues with anything in your room or need advice on local spots, ask the front desk. They're very friendly and accommodating. - Each room has a fairly large balcony and apparently some even have a jacuzzi out there, though I wasn't lucky enough to get one. Still, it's nice to crack open a bottle of wine and relax as you take in the view. - The restaurant is also top notch and you really can't go wrong with most items on the menu. While pasta is a no-brainer, I also thought the a few of the fish dishes were really good. As long as you're okay with a hotel that has a bit of a retro feel you'll love it here. Highly recommended. Most people, myself included, would not think to go to Ischia, especially if you haven't been to Rome, Florence, Venice, etc. But I must say this is a beautiful place and it's worth staying at the Regina Isabella.

The place is mainly populated by holidaying Italians, a good sign. Staying most places here would be good but the Miramare is a bit more upmarket and very nice. Probably the best location in the town with views across the bay but still only a very short walk to the shops and restaurants of the town. The spa facilities were not all available while we were there (they don't seem to advertise this) and the hotel's beach is a 10 minute walk and quite a few steps to climb away. Having said that this at least gave us some exercise during an otherwise very lazy stay and it is also a great place to swim; safe, clean and clear seas. They would have got five stars but our room, which was immaculate, had the smallest shower ever and the water could run a little hot/cold/hot/cold as well which irritated the hell out of me. Otherwise I highly recommend the island, the town and the hotel. A couple of important tips: the electric buggies allowed in the town charge a lot for very short trips so avoid these, also the ferries from Ischia to Naples on a Sunday must be booked in advance to guarantee a seat, everyone is leaving after the weekend and it is manic.

First let me tell you this place is NOT a resort in anyway, so don't expect it. Secondly they do get high marks for converting a convent to a hotel. However, the negatives outweigh the positives. First the rooms are as small as the rooms in most Paris hotels. The toilet is so small you can go to the toilet, take a shower and brush your teeth at the same time. We were the only ones there last week. The staff suggested that its better for them to deliver our breakfast each morning instead of setting up the breakfast room just for us. We agree. Well low and behold when we checked out they charged us 20Euros for room service. We argued with the owner on checkout and he finally caved in and gave us the 20Euro credit. We then wanted to have dinner at the hotel. We were the only ones there. On checkout they ripped us off for 52Euros for one plate of pasta and a salad. Had I known this I would have driven to town! I goofed and should have asked the price before! JP Morgan said "If you have to ask the price you can't afford it". I am amending this quote and stating if you don't ask the price you are a fool! The owner should not be in this business. He "pissed" us off royally! I can only imagine how he treats other guests. Would not stay here again or recommend. Too many other place where they don't abuse you!

MY CAPRI, ITALY NIGHTMARE Beware of Villa Camelia, Capri…read moreItaly also known as: Villa Bismarck, Villa Camille, Villa le Camelia This is something I have never had to do before but it's a must this time. The influence of 'word of mouth' is so powerful and people must be held responsible for taking advantage of others. We recently rented what appeared to be an amazing villa in Capri, Italy named "Villa Camelia" through a luxury rental agency, Italian Style Villas (www.italianstylevillas.com). We worked directly with one of their brokers, Gianluca Ziveri, and unfortunately the villa was NOT at all what was sold to us and certainly not what the pictures described. After enjoying the villa's beautiful outdoor areas overlooking Capri and not going into the house until we were ready to unpack and go to bed, this is what we encountered: filthy mattresses, disgusting dirty linens, worn out pillows, leaky plumbing in one of the bathrooms, a staff that was making excuses for its unsanitary conditions and on top of that electrical issues that could be a fire hazard with smells of burning wires! There was even aluminum foil wrapped around the bulb sockets in the supposedly grand chandelier and light bulbs all over the house. We had no choice but to leave and had no other place to go after arriving in Capri, and everything was sold out. And though our rental contract clearly states that we would receive a full refund if the property was not in the condition it was advertised or if we weren't happy with it, of course, no one wants to give us our money back!! They actually fought us rather than help us find a new place to stay. I have to share and let people know. Do not book thru these people and do not book this house. The owner and everyone have refused to give our money back. Any rental agency that advertises this villa either doesn't know how bad this property is or clearly doesn't care because full payment is required in advance and you are out of luck when you aren't happy with it. All these websites who sell this villa should remove it from their sites.
