This is part review, part reply to another comment…read more I have been going to Locks That Rock since before they were at their Rt 9 location. They have the best prices in the area - my mother goes to a salon in a town further south and pays $200+ for foil highlights and a cut, when you can get the same quality at Locks That Rock for considerably less. Yes, they had to raise their prices recently, but that happens anywhere because of the economy. All of the girls are amazing here. They've become like a second family to me. I cannot speak about the male stylist there as I have not had the pleasure to really talk with him. Otherwise I have dealt with pretty much everyone in the salon. Karen, the owner, is always booked, and some days are busier than others, but as for the "passing off", yes it happens, because one person usually washes your hair, and your stylist you made the appointment with will color/cut/style your hair them self. That's the same as any other salon I've gone to. Which leads me partially to this... For the reviewer who said that the owner didn't know what "Balayalage" was - I didn't either until I got the correct spelling. As for the owner saying you're on the bottom of the food chain, because you were the only "non-white" person there, I find that hard to believe because the owner would NEVER say something like that in general, let alone to a customer. Also, if you weren't happy with the styling/coloring, then say something as they do it. I've gone plenty of times where I want something done and they might have not known exactly what I meant, so I would show them. I had gone once where the 30 volume for mixing my hair color may have not been closed properly and it wasn't as strong as it should be. So what did they do? They re-did it with a new bottle of 30 volume. When I told them I couldn't stay any later to have it fixed, they gave me a new appointment to come in and have it fixed, obviously free of charge. Karen has been in this business for over 20 years. She wouldn't be where she is now if she would say rude things to customers and if customers were unhappy with their styles. She runs a great business and loves what she does. Even my 5 year old loves going to her!

No courtesy at all. Explained that I sold my car for a dream vacation and wanted to…read moreLook fabulous both my son and I. We both had gone over a year without haircuts. Drove over an hour to get there from CT only to sit for over an hour while she worked on everyone but us. Even people that came in after us. One hour and fifteen later I finally got asked about my color for my hair, half an hour after that I finally got color on my head ($80). Walked out with a wet head when I saw my son (who had been waiting since 3:00 - that was his appointment at 3:00) still sat untouched and she was applying color to someone else(who again came 1:45 after us. When I announced we were leaving she did apologize and said it was a mis- communication and she was "trying to stay on time". I explained that's not what you tell people that have been waiting for over two hours. She said "I thought he just liked hanging out with us?". Yes Karen, I am sure all 21 year old young men LOvE hanging out in beauty salons for two hours being ignored. Although you did tell him 3 times he was next which obviously was wrong, I did bring to your attention how long he has been waiting and we did not enjoy "hanging out. My hair color, thanks for asking, came out a mustardy yellow. I am sure it will look great on my dream vacation . I had an appointment for over a week. Karen over books "squeezes" people in that try to sell her pink curtains and treats everyone like they deserve to pay her top dollar and be treated like crap. Hugs hello however were appreciated BTW. Thanks - No Thanks! Not for us - ever! PS. Paint your bathroom. The spackle looks like poop.

I've been looking for a new salon and stumbled upon Shear Love. I was looking to have a balayage…read moredone, similar to one I had years ago. I booked an appointment online for a full balayage/ long hair and was quoted a price. My stylist, Carly, reached out to request a photo of my hair so that she was prepared and moved up my appointment an hour earlier to ensure we had enough time. I also provided a photo of the look I had done previously so she'd know exactly what I was looking for. When I arrived, I was greeted by Carly and she was super friendly. The salon looks like a house on the outside but the inside was transformed. The interior is super cute. It's well kept, bright and stylish. The other stylists were so friendly and welcoming. Before the magic began, Carly advised me that my service would actually end up being around $150 more than I was quoted due to the length of hair I have and the product needed. This was definitely disappointing. I expected a variance but not something so drastic, as I booked the service for long hair to begin with. I opted for the partial balayage and it was still more than quoted and over my anticipated budget. That was the only disappointment I had. Other than that, Carly was very professional and she did beautiful work. My hair was the exact shade I was looking for. It was very natural looking. Carly provided information on when to have my look touched up and sent me home with samples of their amazing smelling shampoo and conditioner. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome. I'd recommend Carly. She did a great job and was fun to talk to!

This place is horrible!!! I've sent my teenage daughter there for a wash and set! This place…read moreovercharged my child and chopped her hair up. Instead of just saying they do not know how to do course hair, they completed the butchering to my daughters hair and charged her $80 to look like helmet head! When I questioned them they said a wash and set was $20, to blow it out after was after $14- which wash and set come with blowing in any salon in the world! They charged her $24 to cut her ends which was absolutely horrible, then $15 to do a hot oil treatment in which I supplied the oil and leave in conditioner from my home! They then charged my child without telling her the price for butchering her hair! She is still crying! Ridiculous

Surprisingly over priced for not being a high end salon. Their products and services are low end…read morebut severely overpriced. (At least what they sold me)...something I can order from Target 25$ was 45$. The services I paid for were double what I would be charged at my good salon. The salon owner is very pushy. I thought she was kind but when I received my bill at the end of my service I was disgusted. I paid my bill and gave a good tip because I'm a person of integrity. I was hoping I would be saving a bit of money by giving this place a try when my actual salon is a high end Aveda salon. The place is dirty looking and run down. Nonetheless my hair didn't come out too terrible but it smells like a bathroom perfume spray. Feels a bit irritated on the scalp. I don't absolutely love it as she insisted I would. It's Not what I'm used. I gave this place a try due to basically being forced to let them do my hair. I will not be coming back.
