Wanting to give a higher rating soooooo bad. Maybe my look forward to of this night left with the underwhelm - well here's our time.... So excitedly got together at Bella's last Saturday for a group date night. Four couples for an early holiday celebration. The ambiance of Bella's is adorable. Quaint, homey, warm. It is very small. The restaurant was not full at our 7pm seating. We were greeted by our server, who tried her best in explanation of being new. She was courteous and kind, but scattered. Also there was an island in the middle of the room that the servers were rolling silverware on, and had cheese to shred sitting. I was distracted in seeing this activity and food just there.... Big complaint in the bar service- it was incredibly slow. When I went to the restroom realized there may have been two employees or friends sat at the bar chatting with the bartender - maybe this was why so slow??! Our one couple waited for +20 minutes for their bottle of wine. The cocktails were of ok taste - local liquors only offered, so ehhhh. Ok food- Appetizers: fried mozzarella, squash dip, polenta fries, pickle chips and octopus. Standout was the polenta fries. They were smooth (no cornmeal grit) a nice sear and the marinara accompanied was tangy and sweet. The octopus needed my sous vide, lololol, but the grill was well done. Pickle chips, they were so tiny, like a cornichon was sliced, lololol. Fried mozz, ok. But the table did enjoy the squash dip. Entrees looked fairly well enjoyed by the table. Of all, the plain pizza seated next to me had a nice wood fire char, that our friend devoured. I ordered the crab pasta. A ton of crab, but all shredded crab. I personally would pay more to have beautiful, white lump crab meat instead of filler. This was filler crab. In a spicy marinara which was good. But I enjoyed this more as my late night leftover than my meal. My husband's short rib ragu forced this review into an undoubted 3-star. It was BAD. Like the pasta needed 3 more minutes to cook bad. He was kind and ate some of it, as to not send back, but he should have. The ragu looked stock and cream based, it was fair, but may have helped zest up the dish was some tomato. This dish was a disappointment. So atmosphere is great, service is good, besides going thirsty, and food was hit or miss. For us, it's a one and done here. read more

I rarely ever write reviews, usually only give stars but, this was worth sharing. I did not want to draw attention the same evening in a small space. So I came here instead to share our experience. Which I quickly learned was not exclusive to us after reading other reviews. I ordered their caprese sandwich. A caprese sandwich is made with fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, tomato, and sometimes arugula. Their menu even lists it this way. When it arrived, it tasted strange, earthy and grass-like. The flavor completely overpowered the mozzarella and the tomato. No basil. I completely pulled it apart to see what was going on and noticed there was no arugula or basil at all. Instead, the sandwich was filled heavily with some other type of greens I could not identify. I took a picture and asked ChatGPT. They put pea shoots and microgreens on it instead. This completely changed the flavor of the sandwich, and it did not taste like a caprese sandwich at all. I waved the waitress over to let her know. She told me she thinks they had run out of arugula, so they substituted it. She said, "sorry.' That was it. Then I waved the manager (or owner, not sure) and when I told her, she confirmed that the chef had replaced the arugula with pea shoots. She said sorry we ran out of arugula. Like it was no big deal! Anyone with any cooking or food experience knows that this is going to alter the taste of a caprese sandwich completely. Pea shoots and microgreens taste nothing like arugula. In fact they have a very distinct, strong earthy flavor. When a customer orders something from the menu, they expect to receive the ingredients listed. If you are going to make a substitution, you should ask the customer first, no? At the very least, I should have been given the option (before preparing the sandwich) to choose whether I still wanted the sandwich or to order something else. When I told the manager there was no arugula on the sandwich she said, (like it was no big deal), "We ran out of arugula so the chef used pea shoots and mixed micro greens." Like that was a similar swap. My whole sandwich was sitting on the plate completely taken apart. Tbe pea shoots flavored everything so strongly that I could not even enjoy anything else inside the sandwich. The mozzarella and tomato smelled and tasted just like it. You could see that the entire sandwich was on my plate even though it was deconstructed. I left the restaurant really hungry and so bummed. The manager/owner did not apologize or offer to replace the sandwich. Her response was dismissive, as if she was saying, "oh well, sorry, deal with it." And after reading some of her responses to people's reviews, my suspicions are spot on. My husband's pasta gorgonzola pasta was awful tasting. We were starving so, yes he ate the pasta anyway,.just to have something. I noticed in response to other people's reviews the manager/owner responds that the customer "ate all the food' even though they said it didn't taste good. Well, that's because people are hungry and some people are able to endure a bad meal and eat just it l, even if it's not good simply because they are hungry. Also, some people don't like to say anything in person to avoid any conflict. Or for fear the owner will be confrontational, which in this case, I believe would happen. They were better off waiting until they got home and writing a review. This owner would soone argue with you about your personal taste instead of just diffusing the issue and happily making it right. A small gesture like offering me something different, would have encouraged me to try the place again, but the way this was handled made me never want to go back. This is why successful restaurants and companies go above and beyond, because taking a small loss on something like a sandwich pays off in the long run. Needless to say, this experience was disappointing and we will not be returning. They also really need sound panels, because it is so loud in there you can hardly hear the person across from you talking. While reading other reviews, I noticed that the owner does not handle constructive criticism well. Angry, petty and snarky responses further confirm my decision to never go back. Reviews can tremendously help any restaurant see where improvements or adjustments can be made. But she has a sarcastic "you can't please everyone," attitude and tpo big an ego. I have decades of experience successfully transforming and improving small businesses (think bar rescue). With a defensive demeanor and big ego, a business can never grow. read more

I'd heard mixed reviews since they'd opened, so I'm happy to report that my experience here was decidedly great. First, the interior is so beautiful; modern rustic, bright and clean- welcoming from the first step through the door. Our waitress was a sweetheart: attentive but not crowding. My wine was appropriately priced, amply-poured, and tasty. We started by sharing two, half dishes of pasta- which is such a great feature; the half option allows us to try two delicious pasta options w/out having to commit to a whole entree (very European, pasta course too!). We had the squid ink and the rabbit gnocci- both were super flavorful and unique. Would order both again! Then we got the flat iron steak which was also good. The only change I would have made was my dessert choice: lemon pound cake that was dense like a week-old bran muffin, unfortunately. I really wanted to like this place. It hit on so many points but fails on execution. My partner loves pasta but here they failed. It was always tough and undercooked. So we don't go back. I was craving a good salad so while he ordered from elsewhere I ordered the Fall Salad. When I got home and opened it up something seemed wrong. It was barely dressed. The radish was large chunks and tasted woody. The fennel was old and spongy. There were no walnuts or cranberries. Just disgusting. It went directly into the trash. Of course I called. Just a heads up with this place. First, don't go there as just 2 people, when the place is half empty they will jam you in between two 4 people tables. FINALLY made that reservation to dine inside with my girls this afternoon. After learning they were open for lunch Fridays and Saturdays (brunch on Sunday!), I had to jump on the opportunity to check out the renovated space for Bella Trattoria. Greeted with smiles as soon as we walked in, they were ready to get us seated and had waters at our table right away. The menu is way more than pizzas, so that was fantastic to see. I know my daughter was here for the pizza, but I had my eye on that seasonal watermelon salad for starters. We ordered up this and their bread plate. Don't avoid this item just because it is $6, as it was 4-5 types of in house baked breads and super creative, along with two different flavored butters and a generous bowl of seasoned dipping EVOO. It was the perfect way to get things rolling before our meals and we even had a few pcs to take home with that butter and oil. The watermelon salad was fantastic. The mint was big in aroma and I was afraid it may overpower the arugula, but it was just the right amount to complement the dish. $15 and was perfect for two of us to share. For my meal, I had the braised pork shoulder sandwich with fries. Not a huge sandwich, but the pork was juicy and a good distribution of broccoli rabe and cheese. The cherry peppers were either left off the sandwich or diced super fine. No heat to the sandwich. Ciabatta bread was yummy. Fries were piping hot and cooked very well. My wife enjoyed her sweet Italian rigatoni ($22) very much and that Traditional pie was cooked perfectly. Our server, Bri was so nice and took amazing care of us without hovering over our table. The hostess was staying busy cleaning up the area around us and helping setup tables. Very refreshing to see everyone enjoying their time at work. Great music choices on in the background. Not too loud, but the perfect volume. On our way out, the chef came out too to thank us for coming in and made sure we were completely satisfied with the meal. The service was fantastic. The food was phenomenal. The meatballs app was a religious experience the polenta was creamy and the meatballs are moist and flavorful. The Cesar salad was wonderful the Croutons are yummy very different not bread. My husband had the pork sandwich which was delicious and filling. He was very happy. The flourless chocolate cake was like eating a very fudge brownie with the mango sauce cut the sweetness ask for more of it. I was really excited to try this place after driving by it so many times. The menu looked amazing. Inside it's small and cozy with an modern stylized farm house aesthetic. We were greeted and seated promptly. My husband and I started with a caprese salad to share. It was served more tossed salad style vs whole slices of tomato and Mozzarella. I actually prefer it that way except the salad was completely drenched in balsamic. There was probably at least 3 tablespoons of vinegar still left on the plate after we finished the salad. At one point my husband literally wrung out the greens and had a giant pool on his plate. For my husband's entree he ordered the gnocchi special. The flavor was good but the gnocchi themselves were very heavy and doughy. They tasted on par with the store bought kind. I ordered the Lemon shrimp pappardelle. This dish was much better than his. The noodles were very well made and the shrimp were well cooked. The only turn off was it tasted like the tomatoes in the dish were soaked in balsamic which overpowered the dish. There's already lemon in it, it doesn't require more acid. Service was great. The drink list is filled with many great cocktails, mocktails, beers, and wine. I don't know if I'll go out of my way to return, but it's definitely worth a try if you haven't been. If they could ease up on the balsamic the meal would have been so much better. read more

My wife and I have had dinner here twice - once on a random Saturday night and then again on valentine's day. Both times, the service has been incredible. The waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and fun, without being annoying or intrusive. They were also incredibly knowledgeable about the meal, wine pairings, etc. While the service was great, the food........THE FOOD! We haven't missed yet. The first time I had barramundi with beet orzo, and it was incredible. One of the best dishes I've had in/around Phoenixville. For Valentine's I had a lobster papardelle special and my wife had a braised beef rib - we couldn't get enough! We also had appetizers (can't remember what they were exactly), but they set up the meals perfectly. Bella is ALSO BYOB, which I truly hope they continue for wine once they get their liquor license. While I'm sure the bar will have incredible cocktails, I hope they still allow us to keep bringing our own wine, even if we have to pay corkage. In short, GO HERE. It's a great space, warm and inviting, and the food that they put out is pure excellence. You will NOT regret it and I look forward to the next time I can get in there for a meal! read more

The service was pretty good, and the interior decor is very tasteful (yet very loud)...but the food left a lot to be desired. The four of us ordered 3 apps and an entree each to share. I'll start with the good: the arugula salad with apples cranberries and toasted almonds was delicious, the fried artichoke was good and perfectly cooked but a little bland. The grilled octopus was a disappointment, not fresh and doughy texture. Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 entrees were pretty bad. The raviolis were good, but that's it. I had the squid in ink with pasta and seafood. It was so overloaded with hot pepper flakes, no one could eat it but me. I eat a lot of very spicy food, and I was really surprised at the extreme heat level...no way it was on purpose. Also, all the seafood that came in it (scallops, mussels, clams, shrimp) were pretty undercooked. I spit most of the seafood out. My mushroom pizza had good crust, but was very bland. The scallop entrée had very good scallops but all the sides or greens it came with were so drenched and sautéed in balsamic vinegar it overpowered everything. It was inedible. So, just about everything we got was either way over- seasoned, or way under-seasoned. Hope things get better, because the menu is inventive, but execution poor. read more

Honestly, we looked forward to trying this restaurant. im not sure what going on with restaurants since Covid but so many are just not good. unfortunately this was one of them. if the owner worked at the Montecarlo living room they would understand good service means a lot. not saying they were bad but not too good. we had a dish that came out that was very cold. when asked how everything was we told her. she just said sorry. instead of getting us another. wine selection/prices were good. the food was just blahhh. no taste whatsoever. desert was another miss. it came out and you can tell it was old. for $11 that was totally ridiculous. sorry but we will not be back. read more

So good! We started with the fried artichoke, hot crunchy and delicious. Then we shared a salad, so fresh with thin slices of crisp apple and yummy dressing. Then a small pizza, which was very good, thin crust and flavorful sauce. Our main, which we shared, was scallops set In risotto and puréed squash was outstanding. Fat juicy scallops pan fried and placed in a creamy risotto surrounded by a flavorful squash purée, unusual and tasty. We finished with the olive oil cake. So happy to have tried something I've never had before. The cake was very moist, not terribly sweet, but set in a pool of sweet and tart lemon curd. The cake was topped with a small dab of whipped creme and basil. The interior of the restaurant was very pretty. The updated room was reminiscent of a fine French bistro. Apps came out were delicious but no drinks, My husband had to ask for water and I asked for a fork, husband said the bammundi was not great, tasteless.
